Mr Jorge did a very good job in my apartment today. He was wearing a mask and finished the work neat and clean.

I was 'forced' to call on Master since our HOA only wants to deal with them in terms of shutting off the water supply in our building, which we needed to do some plumbing work for our unit. The guy who came was professional and did his job by the book, but the customer service (CS) people/dispatchers were something else! They are patronizing, borderline rude, and haughty to talk to! I had called them several times to arrange for my appointment and figure out the most cost-effective way of handling our case, and they were not helpful at all! At first I couldn't understand what their four-hour window policy was, so I was trying to figure it out by asking questions, and the girl I was talking to was so rude and infuriating! She kept interrupting me with an annoyed voice and speaking in a patronizing way like she was talking to a slow-witted person. And it was always the same case whenever I called them. My goodness! At first I thought I might be overreacting, but then I saw a similar review here in Yelp that confirmed my experience. Also, the CS person gave misleading misinformation (totally off estimate of the job duration) which was not true at all. Please avoid giving any information that you have not verified with your actual plumbers. Master Plumbing, please do something about your CS people! Another thing, our job entailed a specific time to start, and they sent their guy 30 minutes ahead of time to 'scout', which was not really necessary since Master Plumbing is already very familiar with the building, and started billing me immediately even if he couldn't do the job yet. read more

Called them yesterday. Told me that it would be $160 per hour and setting the appt between 2pm to 6pm the next day. I just gave them a call to check when they were coming to get a better approximate time and found out that the price has changed to $240 an hour after 4:30 and we were scheduled pass 4:30pm. Doing business has to be the RIGHT WAY!!! If they told me in the beginning, I would have scheduled a time before 4:30pm. read more

I called them on Dec 30th at 1:30 a.m., left a message that my kitchen sink was blocked. I'd been unable to fix it myself with either chemicals or a 25-ft auger snake. At 8:10 a.m. in the morning a very sympathetic lady called me back, apologized profusely that they wouldn't be able to get somebody to my house till sometime between midday and 4 pm because they were so busy. At about 2 pm "Jose" knocked at our front door. He was very courteous, and before entering the house he put plastic covers around his shoes (like little shower caps) -- very considerate! He fixed the blockage in about 30 minutes. He had to open up a "clean-out" access place outside our house. The blockage turned out to be about 30 feet down. We had bought our son a juice extractor for Christmas, and somehow some pulp from it had clogged the drain. Jose made sure it was completely fixed, then cleaned up. His work is guaranteed (no blockage on that drain) for 30 days. I was very impressed with the friendly courtesy and efficient professionalism. This is as good as it gets! read more

My mom & I have used Master Plumbers 3 times in past 2 months. Jimmy44 successfully diagnosed and repaired a leaky pipe in a wall of my mom's condo. The problem had stumped 2 previous plumbers and two contractors. Mark came twice to address additional leaks in mom's kitchen, and do plumbing maintenance. Both Jimmy and. Mark were professional and courteous. They were careful to always wear shoe covers in the home and clean up after their repairs. The booking/communication process was smooth and the plumber always showed up when scheduled. I had originally given 5 stars mostly because the plumber who came onsite told me that he would get a free tool from his boss if I did... which I thought was nice. I now have to update my review due to some really bad customer service from the front office, and I don't think this was just a unique experience. I called Master because they are contracted with my HOA. During the call in which I was trying to schedule my appointment, the woman on the phone said: "We schedule in four hour windows. It's possible we may not come until the end of your window, and since your job is a big one, you better be prepared to take the whole day off of work." My problem was not urgent, so I asked if I could just schedule an appointment for which I would be the first stop. Nope. Then she said "We will call you before we come. If you don't answer the phone, we will go on to the next appointment and you will have to reschedule." I asked if I could call that morning and find out where I am on the schedule? Nope. So... I made the appointment, then called my HOA and asked if I could get another plumber. "Of course! We cannot require you to use a certain plumber." So, I called Dittmann Plumbing in San Mateo. Maria there said "oh, your job is a big one. We will schedule you as first stop so it can be completed fast and you can get to work!" So, I scheduled Dittmann and cancelled Master. Then, a woman from Master called and she said "I see you cancelled your appointment." I expected her to ask why I cancelled. I was wrong. Instead, she lied... "Your HOA requires you to only use us and no other plumber!" By then, I had spent half my morning scheduling a plumbing appointment and I lost my marbles... "That's not true -- I called them and asked! Don't you even want to know why I cancelled with you?" She didn't. I wonder if that tiny amount of power that comes from being a scheduling person for a plumbing company was too much for them? In this day of cell phones and busy people who don't sit around their houses all day, Master Plumbing absolutely refused to make anything convenient on me, their customer. Apparently they thought they had me cornered and I was forced to do whatever it took to be convenient for them.... wrong!! Dittmann came in the morning, did the job quickly, cleanly and professionally, and I got to work a few hours late. Thank you DIttmann... no thanks to Master. read more

Awful! These guys came out to fix my seriously leaking shower. They did show up at 9.30 at night. Remember no profesional will be working at that time unless they are being paid $300 hr. so this so called professional stopped the water by installing a gas fitting and said I have to order the part. That cost $135 before even ordering the part . 4 days later they call me to say the part has arrived and someone will be there the next day between 10 and 2. I had to take the day off work but ok lets just get it fixed so I don't have to worry anymore. So I wait ...and wait....and wait 2 oclock rolls by.. and I wait..and wait 6 pm rolls by Ok i'm not waiting anymore I gotta go. No call to say were running late or the worker flushed himself down the toilet..Nothing! OMG I was so mad to waste an entire day. They finally showed up at 7pm after my wife called and said where the hell are you? After showing up the part did not fit. so they quote $850 to fix it. then they will re enburse the money we already spent on them plugging the leak with a gas valve. We discovered that they actually made the problem worse by over tighten the handles on the taps. Long story short- Its still not fixed , They charged me money without fixing a thing. read more

I gave them 1 star because they did show up on time. Besides that, let me tell you how bad they are. 1. They will try to charge for you driving time. They charge by the hour. So if they are stuck in traffic, they will charge you a lot. 2. They will try to double, maybe even tripple the price of parts. 3. They will tweak the numbers on the involce to get a final price that they are happy with. They will tweak the price of the parts, charge more hours for labor by driving slower or driving purposely to a farther location etc. read more

I called to schedule a fix for a leaky faucet. It's not urgent, so I told them I could wait a few days. The best they could do was give me a 4 hour window 9am-1pm! I do not have time to wait 4 hours for a plumber. I called Pennington Plumbing instead and they were able to give me the first morning appointment so I won't have to wait. Having used them for our current water heater installation and their quality work a few years ago, we called a week in advance to get an estimate for major work to be done for a new home purchase (several slow drains, improperly installed garbage disposal, broken RO system, 1" main supply upgrade, several leaky pipes). The normal quick estimate time didn't apply to us because the job was so big, so we waited for "Jim" to come out this morning. 30 minutes late, we called and asked where Jim was, since we'd already taken the morning off for work. "Another job. I won't be there until late this afternoon." We called back and politely asked what the problem was. "Our fault, he was doubly scheduled." Can you rebook for tomorrow at the same time and waive your estimate fee? "Sure, we've got you down." 20 minutes later, they called back and let us know since it was last minute they wouldn't be able to accommodate that, and instead would give us a 4 hour window some other time this week. Masters, they are not. Nor are we their customers anymore. Stay away from these guys for anything major. We need the work done but if we can't rely on them to even schedule an estimate correctly, we're certainly not going to trust them to a big job! read more

Master Plumbing does a capable job. However, I was mystified as to why 1) the plumber who came yesterday would not snake out a kitchen line from the roof, as his colleague had done several years earlier (at half the time), and 2) why I was charged for two hours time when the work and clean up (including packing the equipment into the truck) was one hour fifty minutes. Here is what I got from the person who answered the phone: 1) we only have our plumber go up to the roof one time. Thereafter, it's from the ground. When I asked why, she said that it was company policy, that she wasn't the owner. That's a BS non answer if I ever heard of one. 2) she said they bill in 10 minute incements. When I said that the plumber took the last 10 minutes to write the invoice, she said, "yes,." When I asked if they charged for writing the invoice, she said "yes." Besides that, the plumber broke a favorite vase. Master's website differentiates itself from the commission-based plumbers. Since it came out to the same price as those commissioned plumbers charge, I don;t see a difference, oh, except n the attitude of the woman who snootily answered my questions. I've liked Master's work in the past but in my mind, they are no better than the commissioned plumbers they denigrate. read more

They are price gougers! I had them work on my water heater - came in and did the work. Two weeks later the same issue re-occurred on a Friday evening. When I called them, they said that they would charge me again - for their night & weekend rate - minimum $176!!! Since the alternative was to go without hot water for the whole weekend, I gave up and paid, but will NEVER use them again. Charging a repeat customer who has already spent 100's of dollars with you for the same service twice in a couple of weeks is just BAD BUSINESS PRACTICE. OK service provided by the plumber himself but not the customer services. VERY UNPROFESSIONAL IN TERMS OF HANDLING CLIENT INQUIRES. My HOA filed a work order at 11am, called them at 1pm and the CS lady said just received work order 5 minutes ago. Whatever. Water kept pouring in my bathroom and I desperately waited till 4pm to see the plumber coming finally. Had some issues and need the plumber return again (he just left) and never came back although CS lady said he would. Later I called the CS lady and asked her if a written report regarding the cause of water leakage will be sent to my HOA soon. All she said is "I don't know". Okay fine. I asked her "how long will it take to receive a written report". She said "I don't know, perhaps next week." Okay fine. I asked her one final question, "Okay should I ask someone else?" She said "just talk to your HOA". All her replies were in a cold unfriendly tone. In short, I would NOT recommend them. read more

Irene, even a dog can snake a tub drain and my plumber did it for $80. How much did Master Plumbing & Sewer charge you? I happened to have had the misfortune of using them because the management company of the building I live in recommended them, and oh boy, never again. They did come on time, I've got to give them credit for that, but then, the gentleman they sent me took 2 hours to do a 10-minute job. I swear, he performed the job in front of me in 10 minutes. The problem is that before he could start, he said he needed to shut off the water so he went to his truck (why?) and sat there for 50 minutes doing absolutely nothing. Then he came back and told me he had a hard time shutting off the water, so he left for another 30 minutes. He finally finished the job and guess how much time he charged me for? 2 FULL HOURS. He said the additional 25-minute charge was the time it took him to get to my place, so he charged me for that too! Can you believe that? I swear, this is the whole truth, nothing but the truth and I have the invoice to prove it. Email me and I'll send you a copy. Need a plumber? Look elsewhere! read more

This company has been horrible to work with. I wouldn't recommend them to anyone. They have invoiced me for services when they shouldn't have. I have called them twice to fix their error and they don't seem to care or even want to do what's right. I feel taken advantage of and think there is something up as I am looking at my invoices and they don't make any sense. They should be ashamed of how they conduct business. They initially estimated the work would take 2 days because of the placement of the piping. But when the time came, they were able to finish in one day without compromising quality! They even noticed a leak in one of our toilets while in the crawl space and fixed that for us too! Would definitely recommend them! read more

This is first time I am writing a bad review ever in my life. The plumber worked for 1 hour 10 minutes, went back to the car and spent 20 minutes to prepare the invoice, and you can image they charged for 1 hour and 30 minutes. Which is totally 160+80= $240. When I called the office, the answer is yes, the time on writing an invoice is also being included, this is how it works, she even said I am on the 3rd floor, the time from the lobby to the apartment is long. What kind of invoice you think takes 20 minutes to finish? The funny thing is while the contractor was 'preparing the invoice', I went downstairs and obviously the plumber was playing his phone and waiting for the time passed. I had an emergency sewage backup at my house yesterday and an unhappy family who couldn't use water (nor the toilets!) until it was fixed. Not so pretty. Upon calling Master Plumbing I got helpful service including how to deal with the challenges at hand, and a reasonable appt. time the same day. Good so far. The tech showed up when promised in a cool looking truck full of gear. On his uniform I noticed his name is Jamar. Understated, polite, informative, knowledgeable, easy to talk to, VERY helpful and patient. A good overall attitude--nothing outrageous, just solid. He got the work done in a reasonable amount of time. I asked for more and he was happy to help. (They charge by the hour which is fair). As a small business owner I know how important your people are, and how they represent your brand when you're not around. Well, to the owner of Master Plumbing--nice hire, and I assume nice training and guidance as well! Jamar is a great asset who improved your brand equity-- yesterday with me, today with Yelp, and in the future with the word of mouth recommendations I'll pass along to my friends. I want to thank professional plumber Jorge for his excellent plumbing service that he provided for my slowly draining kitchen sink. I am truly satisfied with every part of the service he provided. From entering the door, laying down covers to protect the floor, removing items around the work area to prevent damage, conducting the plumbing work thoroughly, checking the work to make sure that it won't cause the same problem in the future, cleaning the mess thoroughly afterwards, he has demonstrated professionalism beyond what other plumbers have exhibited in the past. After closely examining his work, I am confident that I am now free from the slow drain problem for at least the next 10 years. He cleaned up the pipe real good. I will definately ask for Jorge if other plumbing problem arise in the future other than the kitchen sink which I know it won't be a problem for a long time. Called Master Plumbing at the recommendation of a friend who is a contractor. They arrived within about an hour to inspect what could have been a really scary leak (in a hard to get-to place). As we looked around, Jorge started thinking it might be something else - kid related. As he investigated more and the location of the dripping water more improbable for the drain line, we found the source of the water to be my son's water balloon stash, which had popped and leaked onto his bedroom floor. . Instead of tearing apart the ceiling of our kitchen, we had a laugh and got the kids back in to clean up the mess. I was relieved the water wasn't more serious. No B/S, no quotes, just "we will take care of you" and they did exactly that. Came on time and called on their way. Job was done in less than half an hour. My husband and I had a leaky shower faucet for a couple of months. My husband tried to tighten it so that the leak would stop, but instead got quite the shower as the pipe had burst!
