We lucked out with a last-minute reservation for a work dinner and were seated quickly. The absolute highlight was the bread service the pumpernickel bread was incredible, and we literally asked for rounds of just that! I came here for a work dinner a bit ago. We were luckily able to secure a reservation at the last minute and were seated fairly quick. We started with bread service and the pumpernickel bread they had was the best. All of us went back for 2nd and even asked the waitress to bring us only that bread the next round. My boyfriend and I make it a point to come to Mastros for our anniversary because they always take the best care of us right when we walk in to the friendly hosts greeting us to the servers, whom Casey was such a gem. He was so attentive and so kind. The manager Tati also comes to check on us to make sure we are being taken care of from time to time. The restaurant is beautiful, the entire staff is welcoming and friendly, and the food is delicious! Everything we had was so memorable. Was here for Mother's Day food was great took a while to come out but expected on mother's day. The Dj was amazing she had a great voice she definitely made the atmosphere so relaxing with the song choices. Sever was good until he added his on 100 tip at register. He apologized said it was an error so that was a lil shocking. Manager did come immediately to help void it then we were able to leave a decent tip for server. Had an amazing experience at Mastro's for our 6 year anniversary. They even made a custom menu with our names on it which was truly a pleasant surprise. The food was fantastic, but the service really made the night. Casey was an incredible server--friendly, attentive, and always made sure we had everything we needed. Tati, the manager, also stopped by to check on us throughout the evening and made us feel truly welcomed. We came here on Wednesday for my husband's 45th birthday. What a gorgeous place! The staff were so friendly. From the doorman to our waitress, we received the best service. I thought the DJ was playing music, but he was the one singing! The drinks and food portions were surprisingly generous. We ordered bread, asparagus, lobster Mac & cheese, grilled shrimp and medium cooked steaks! All the food was delicious but I honestly expected more from the steak. Popped in for an early dinner and was seated immediately. Everyone was friendly. There were some pretty loud tables but it was mostly quiet at the beginning. The bread basket was great! Lots of different options. We split the New York A5 Wagyu. They offered to split and slice it, which was nice. After comparing menus and savings, my friend picked Mastro's. It was pretty easy to make a rezzie a few days before. I believe he used OpenTable. We ended up doing one SFRW menu and then just adding stuff on top. The SFRW included - the Lobster Bisque (normally $23), Bone-In Ribeye 22oz (normally $93), Creamed Spinach (normally $16), White Cheddar Lobster Mac & Cheese (normally $50), Signature Personal Warm Butter Cake (not sure on pricing since didn't see a dessert menu tho I think it is around $18 based in menus from other locations). In total, if ordered a la carte, we would have spent $182 plus the cost of dessert. (If the dessert was indeed $18, then it would have been $200 for our menu.) Instead we spent $155, so not a bad menu if you are looking at savings. I've been here before and it is a fancier steakhouse. They even have a dress code. Definitely pricey, but I feel like most steakhouses in this category are on the more expensive side. The food was fine. Very decadent since we ordered all the creamy carbs. I enjoyed the steak and bone marrow. I do think think it's a little silly to charge for bread and butter at these prices, but being in the SF Bay Area, I am not surprised. The crab cakes were a little fishy, but I ended up eating it with the caesar so that helped along with the lemon. Ambiance wise, I think they are going for intimate, but a touch trendy? It is very very dark, so I had issues reading the menu when it came time to order. I just used my camera flashlight cuz sometimes you just gotta light your menu and say screw the vibe. Wow, what a memorable dining experience, so much so, I went back twice! Phenomenal service from beginning to end. The hostesses greet you with a smile, the ambiance is vibrant, and the live music really sets the mood. Parking can be horrendous on this side of the city, but there ample parking lots around the area, if there's no street parking. There's also Lyft/Uber/Waymo. Delicious food with exceptional plating, especially when they scoop the sides onto your plate one by one. The warm bread is scrumptious, take some home for later. Everything tasted even better the next day. Great place to celebrate birthdays, special occasions, promotions, retirement, etc. It's way better than STK, actually no comparison. Visited on NYE and it was definitely busy, but we were glad to have a reservation. The ambiance is very upscale with dim, intimate lighting. They also had live music that night, which was a great touch, really talented musicians playing a mix of new and classic songs. I ordered the espresso martini, which was a bit mid. Our server did mention it isn't a crowd favorite, but I decided to try it anyway. We started with the bread basket, which was huge for two people (probably could've skipped it), and the sautéed shrimp, wow. They were packed with flavor and a great size. I especially loved dipping the bread that came with the shrimp into the sauce. So good. For mains, we ordered the filet and ribeye, both cooked perfectly, along with the lobster mac and cheese and broccolini. The lobster mac and cheese was tasty, though the thick layer of baked cheese on top felt a bit overkill. The broccolini topped with Parmesan was a standout. Came here after a long day working a trade show. I highly recommend getting a reservation it was a very crowded restaurant. What looked like a relaxing place for a great dinner was surprisingly loud and chaotic. It felt like our server forgot about us for a long time and the bread we ordered as an app didn't come until after the entree's did which was odd. It also was at least 15 minutes in between being seated and ordering drinks or getting water. Not a great experience. Then they had to come back after a while because I needed the gluten free menu so it was just very slow and not ideal. The steak however was very good. I got the NY strip that came out on a plate so hot it literally burned my tongue a little bit but I was happy that it was because my steak came out a little under and the hot plate cooked it enough to where I wanted it. I got a NY strip and it wasn't as tender as I would have liked. As shown in the picture the cook was uneven and the steak had a large fat cap that should have been trimmed before cooking. I hate paying steak prices for just fat. We also got the side of lobster mashed potatoes that was delicious. The best part of the meal in my opinion. Overall a decent meal but at the price point I expected way better service. We were right in the middle of a walkway like the table was added. I got strawberries and sorbet, they must have mistaken it as an allergy towards dairy!!..I have heard raving reviews about their Butter cake and do wish to try it someday, without any confusions, especially not such confusions, on my birthday!! What surprised me is that each location has different menu items, some feature in some location and some dont! So don't be surprised if one of your fav dishes isnt in one location! Mastro's Steakhouse really exceeded my expectations. The food here was delicious! We came to celebrate my brother's birthday. As a group, we ordered the bread service, NY strip steak, bone-in filet, lemon herb chicken, steamed spinach, and lobster mashed potatoes. My brother and dad also ordered 2 cocktails. My personal standout was the bone-in filet - cooked to a perfect medium-rare. While I asked for the chef to omit the butter that's usually drizzled on top of the steak after cooking, I thought steak was so so flavorful. The meat melted in my mouth. The 14-oz portion was perfect to split between my dad and me. The rest of my family really enjoyed the food. No complaints! I also really appreciated the chocolate cake slice that was brought out to make my brother feel like a true guest of honor. What I wish went a little better was the service. Our waiter checked in on our table regularly, but gave us a little too much time to idle around (e.g. look at the menu). I was expecting a great experience because I've been to another Mastro's property and loved it, but this SF location was a huge letdown. We were a party of 4 and they only brought 3 plates with our main course, so one guest had to wait. I ordered asparagus but received mashed potatoes instead. When I flagged it, the asparagus finally arrived with a fabric napkin _on top of it_. The food presentation was odd and unsanitary. As shown in my photo, the fried calamari was served on top of black paper/cloth with a fabric-wrapped garnish on the same plate. Service was inattentive overall and they cleared our leftover appetizers without asking if we were done. For Mastro's prices and reputation, this was unacceptable. Then the restaurant manager Brian Peterson Came to our table and greeted us as well to make sure we are happy so far and make sure we are doing ok. Terrible experience. We made reservations and were seated without water or menus. We had to flag someone down for both. Our server eventually came to take our order. We ordered a Caesar salad, a ribeye cooked medium, a 6oz filet medium rare, and sides of asparagus, mushrooms, and mashed potatoes. The Caesar arrived first but had almost no dressing flavor. We had to hunt down salt and pepper from another server. When the steaks and sides were delivered, that was the last we saw of our server for quite some time. The filet was well done, the ribeye was cold and rare. The asparagus was undercooked, cold, and chewy. The mashed potatoes were cold but decent, and the mushrooms were the only thing served hot. We sat for a long time looking for our server but couldn't find him. By the time he returned to collect the uneaten meat, we had already filled up on the bread and gave up on the meal entirely. My partner surprised me with a special night out for my birthday here. It was spectacular! The service was impeccable and the food was spot on! We had quite a few drinks (martinis, old fashioned's and wine) and all were excellent. While the corn side wasn't our favorite, I am sure many love it. We did get dessert to go as we were just too full from dinner and the butter cake didn't disappoint. The wife and I have been meaning to try Mastro's for years but never did. Not eager to partake in a prix fixe menu on NYE in seemingly every other restaurant in the City, I opted for Mastro's for an early dinner. The result? A fantastic experience that I will absolutely be enjoying again. Mastro's oozes class as a steakhouse should. You are greated by two lovely hostesses at the entrance and then escorted to the elevator where you are whisked to the 2nd or 3rd floor. One thing I learned is the second floor is the DJ / nightclub vibe floor with music blasting. I had read a few reviews and was not looking forward to this and almost canceled my reservation, however I was unaware the third floor is normal and you don't hear any of the music from the floor below. I am so glad we ended up on the 3rd floor. It's an elegant dining room. We got a booth and it was comfortable and nice. The staff bustle about the room impeccably dressed in white dinner jackets. I was genuinely impressed with the staff we met. Our server Dante was professional at all times, offered me half orders of things I wanted but didn't want to order the full side, and checked on us frequently. The GM and Som (Brian and Matthew) spotted our bottle of wine and talked to us at great length about it. We had received it as a gift and didn't know anything about it. Both of them knew every detail of the wine. It's a cab out of Washington state so that's saying something (to be fair it's a cult wine and a Robert Parker 100 pointer). Both of these guys were a delight to talk to so we insisted on sharing a tasting with each. Glad we could help make their NYE a little better. I'm normally all about the food and don't care about the service or the atmosphere and write my reviews accordingly but after experiencing such excellent service and lovely surroundings I'm actually reviewing the food last this time. The food was, in a word, spectacular. I had a shrimp cocktail that they serve in Instagram worthy style with faux fog rolling out of the cup. The shrimp were big meaty sea snails with a perfect sauce. We had a chopped and wedge salad and both were great. Exactly what I'd expect in a nice steak house and the wedge was not drowning in dressing. In fact it was so light I wondered if it was dressed which is better than covered in dressing that drowns out every other flavor. I had a 12 oz. filet which was cooked perfectly. I noticed no trendy sauces were offered on the menu which is also a good sign. They understand a good steak stands up on its own and sauces actually just take away the flavor of the beef. So, no sauce ordered or needed. The steak was perfect. Paired with a side of garlic mashed and asparagus it was perfection. I also liked how the steak comes out on the plate sizzling hot (like Ruth's Chris) but not drowning in butter (unlike Ruth's Chris). My asparagus spears sizzled on the plate as Dante carefully plated a few of them for me. We finished things off with the butter cake and chocolate covered strawberries. I've never seen either on a menu at a steakhouse and both were flawless. The wife loves chocolate covered strawberries and these were excellent. Totally fresh and made in house, clearly. I'm glad we found another steak house that is actually great and will make this a destination to look forward to again soon. read more

I made a reservation here for my birthday, and as soon as we walked in, we could hear the live performer from the first floor. After a short 5 minute wait, we were seated on the 2nd floor. I read all the reviews warning about how loud it gets up there so I was bracing myself for sensory overload, but honestly, I was pleasantly surprised. The performer was a solo artist doing her own takes on popular songs, and combined with the dim lighting, it actually created a really relaxing vibe. I guess we got lucky that night! My man ordered the lobster mac & cheese. We also ordered the bone marrow bacon, a 24 oz steak, and I had the plain mac & cheese. The food itself tasted delicious, our server Joe was kind and attentive, and the bus boys were very sweet -- so I want to give credit where it's due. However, within about 3 hours, he developed severe vomiting and diarrhea. The symptoms were intense enough that medication (Zofran) was needed, and he's had trouble keeping fluids down. Given the timing and that it was seafood, this is very concerning and points to possible food poisoning. I really hope the restaurant takes this seriously and reviews their food handling and storage. Had an really incredible dining experience here a few nights ago. We had a large table of about 20. Our generous hosts ordered an assortment of starters. The Seafood towers were stunning with smoky dry ice and tiers of fresh oysters, plump shrimp, crab, and lobsters. Beautiful and delicious. We also had the carpaccio, which was excellent. Located in the heart of San Francisco near market street and union square walking into Mastro's is walking into a superior dining experience! You are immediately greeted by the hostess as you walk in. The lobby has a beautiful display of wine bottles. The elevator is taken to either the second or third floor. The second floor has live music nightly. As we were there for a birthday we were seated on the third floor with a beautiful view of the city. Everything at mastro's is a show of elegancy! For drinks we ordered a strawberry lemon drop and a Paloma. The martini glass was brought out with dry ice and a shaker. The shaker was shaken and the drink poured in front of you with a smoke bubbling off the rims. The plus with the entire show is the shaker was left there for you to refill your glass and fully enjoy what you spent on it! A bread basket with butter was brought out that included a crispy Parmesan encrusted bread, sourdough and a bread with what I would call everything seeds. The bread was so warm and tasted freshly baked! Each different type of bread had its own unique texture and paired with our drinks elevated the experience. For entrees we order the bone in ribeye and garlic mashed potatoes. Our food was plated for us in front of us. The elegant plates were heated to keep all of the food warm. The garlic mashed potatoes were so fluffy and creamy that you come to understand when effort is put into side dishes the mains are going to be just as delicious. Oh and the main entree was made with love. The steak was cook just how one orders it with a delicious buttery taste. Mastro's Restaurant continues to impress every time I visit. I started with the lobster bisque, which was rich, flavorful, and perfectly balanced. The crab cakes were packed with fresh crab and seasoned just right, while the loaded baked potato was hearty and satisfying. Of course I had the small butter cake as well, warm and indulgent with the perfect sweet finish. On top of the great food, the service was top tier. 4.5 Everything about this steak house was perfect. They called a few hours ahead to confirm our reservation and reminded me of the dress code, which I think is helpful. We were seated on the 3rd floor which was a lot quieter than the 2nd floor where the restrooms are located. Service was excellent. The waiter was attentive and helpful. They suggested their signature lemon drop. The presentation is there but it tasted a bit like an Alka-Seltzer. I'd say skip the lemon drop and try a different cocktail, they have quite the menu! When our dinner arrived the waiter served us our sides! I've been to other steakhouses and was never served my side dishes. I enjoyed that! We both had the filet mignon, twice backed potato, broccolini, and lobster Mac n cheese. All delicious! Since it was my daughter's birthday she was given a complimentary butter cake, which was a bit dry but no biggie! We appreciated it. Highly recommend this steakhouse! read more

We decided to come here as a celebration after my first wedding dress fitting. Lily was our server. She was incredible kind, personable, and so much fun do chat with, and she was so helpful. We had the penicillin cocktail, oysters, petit fillet, gnocchi with truffle and king crab, and a few other sides. They graced us with some incredible desserts for our celebration.
