They were cooked in a crockpot rather than the woodfire oven so it was very tender. However the most outstanding part of the dish was definitely the sauce. It added much needed flavor to the otherwise bland meatball and also doubled as a dip for pizza crust. The pizzas here were a cut above most other pies I've had. Every single pizza did one thing right - the crust. It was airy, soft, and yet still maintained a small bit of firmness to it when I bit in. We ordered the 3 meat pizza and one pie of 1/2 Mustapha & 1/2 Triana. While the no-sauce pies were not really worth mentioning, the 3 meat pizza was a real winner. The sauce is sweet, spicy, and the meat + cheese provided a nice salty finish to the already flavorful base. Overall the 3 meat pizza was delicious and I would recommend ordering it if you are planning on eating here. The amount you pay is definitely more than the value of what you get, but for something like 'artisanal pizza' it's actually pretty standard fare. Admittedly, while I do see myself considering coming back for the 3 meat pizza in the future, the price tag will most likely curbstomp that craving. The meatball being 9 dollars for just one also does not particularly get me excited to order another in the future. Lastly, our server was super polite and extremely helpful. Finally some good f*cking pizza in the Sacramento area. Came here with my family. The place was a bit hard to find because there's not really a sign on the building, but it was nonetheless pretty packed. The staff was very kind and proactive in getting us a table when there was finally enough room. We ordered appetizers and drinks. The burrata and spinach was excellent. The rosemary bread and olive oil was lovely as well. This place has a relatively broad wine and beer selection. Onto the pizza: You'll probably see some reviews calling the pizza here bland. I can't help but suspect that those reviewers came here expecting American takeout pizza complete with overly processed cheese and meats. That is not what this place is. The menu is simple, the ingredients are simple. If you want American pizza, go somewhere else. The ingredients and simplicity of the menu speak for themselves. The Elisa was excellent. I was quite impressed with the crust, as it has that perfectly thin and rustic crisp consistency. The tomato sauce was simple (as it should be) and delicious. The Mustapha was a little plainer, but the prosciutto was excellent. My father, who doesn't typically like prosciutto, enjoyed it. I did not try the 3 Meats pizza that my father ordered, but he pretty much raved about it the entire ride home. Finally, the desserts. I didn't come to a pizza restaurant expecting that I'd be going nuts over the dessert, but I left surprised. The lemon posset was phenomenal. The flavor of the lemon was perfectly balanced and remarkably smooth. The chocolate pudding was doubly impressive, as it had that perfect dense cocoa flavor characteristic of good quality chocolate. Usually chocolate desserts lean more into the sugar than into the actual chocolate, but this place nailed it. It was rich and dark, reminiscent of a flourless chocolate cake. I was excited to try Masullo for the first time. They came highly recommended. I took a look online at the menu. I ordered a medium 3 meat Pizza, an order of Olives and a Meatball. When I got there the bill was $43 +-. Online the pizza was $20 Olives $5 and Meatball $7. They Charged me 25, 7 and 9 dollars. When I asked the young man who took my cc about it, his response was that they haven't had a chance to change the pricing online yet. WTH. The olives were really good, The Meatball was fantastic. The pizza had 8 slices and 6 yes 6 pieces of sausage. I don't know what the third meat was as I could not find one. I did just now look up their website and can see they have updated the pricing. The service was good, there wasn't very many people there and the ambiance was super casual. I had this place book marked for sometime so I'm happy I finally had a chance to try it. That being said I don't have a reason to return now that I've tried it. The food was just okay. The pizzas were kind of bland, my husband had to use some oil salt and pepper. I have been wanting to come here for a while, I have my favorite pizza joints and it is hard to break from them. There are no reservations here which was good because I came here on the fly, waited 20 minutes for a table. The restaurant is very clean, modern and some art on the wall. Lots of small wood tables which can be attached for larger parties. Arugula Salad Fennel, Grana Padano, Toasted Almonds, Lemon Vinaigrette Came with a few pieces of Rosemary bread, this is amazing. This was a light salad, the produce was very fresh. There were traces of grana Padano and toasted almonds, could have used a little more. 3 Meats Pizza Mozzarella, Ricotta, Toscano Salame, Italian Sausage, & Mortadella This is a medium size pizza. Last year I was on a European cruise, and I happened to find myself in Naples, Italy at a restaurant called Antica Pizzeria Port'Alba, which according to Google, is wildly believed to be the world's first pizzeria. There was something so special about having and enjoying a slice of pizza at the world's very first pizzeria, and in the birthplace of pizza. And their pizza was absolutely incredible. There was no getting any more authentic or original than that. Which brings me to my point. Present day -- When I took a bite out of my slice of pizza at Masullo, I was instantly transported back to Italy to the world's first pizzeria. The familiar thin/light/chewy crust, and simple yet great quality ingredients. I think I have found my new favorite pizza spot. Service was an A+. Our waiter was so friendly, and was knowledgeable about the menu. He checked on us periodically to make sure everything was going smoothly, and made sure our glass water bottle was always full. It's pretty spacious inside with a very comfortable simplicity to the design and furnishings and with lots of natural lighting. We ordered two things, the first being the Rosemary bread with olive oil for dipping, and then the Eileen pizza. Rosemary bread with dipping oil (9/10) - it's hard for me to not score high on fresh baked bread with great quality olive oil lol. Bread came out piping hot. Rosemary flavor was perfectly subtle. Our waiter informed us that they get their olive oil locally from somewhere in Woodland, and that it's even available for purchase in the restaurant. After my first bite I immediately asked if I could purchase said olive oil lol. I give the olive oil itself a 10/10. Eileen (pizza) (10/10) - this pizza was absolutely delicious. It's a thin sourdough crust (amazing), with a cream sauce, and topped with mozzarella, crimini mushrooms, bacon, sage, and black pepper. There was literally nothing I didn't like about this pizza, and it makes me super eager to come back right away to try the other pizzas! Was really looking forward to this meal but was pretty disappointed. Got the cauliflower, a meatball, Gilda pizza, and Elisa pizza. I was hoping for a char and nice texture on the cauliflower but it was almost overcooked and just boiled tasting. I didn't taste or see any trace of capers in the caper butter. The meatball tasted like salami and pepperoni and had chunks of what I assume were fat or something suspended in them that made the texture really gross. My Gilda was tasty but had too much cheese and not enough olives. The olives also weren't chopped so they rolled off. My man's Elisa was delicious but there was just not enough of anything on it. It's a little drafty in there but beautiful space-take a jacket if you are a cold person. I wanted to enjoy this place, but the service I received was awful. I would like to thank Bob for apologizing and acknowledging the incident that occurred, but he should not have to apologize for something he did not do. It was our first time at Masullo's and it was Valentine's Day as well. I know, as somebody who has worked restaurants, that holidays sometimes are really busy and not all days are going to be good days. My partner and I were the only ones dining in at the restaurant at the time, and we had ordered the Daily pasta and Eileen pizza. When the food arrived, my partner had asked if we could have a side of ranch. Upon asking this question, our server (I believe his name was Roberto) was not only condescending but belittling as well. He kept repeatedly yelling " DOES IT LOOK LIKE WE HAVE RANCH?? DOES IT LOOK LIKE WE HAVE RANCH?? DOES IT LOOK LIKE WE HAVE RANCH?? " and as someone who has never been here prior, I wasn't aware that asking for ranch would be so triggering to our server. He then went off on a tangent about how asking for ranch is " blasphemy" and that the word "ranch" was not allowed at the restaurant, and how even the mention of the word "ranch" to "the owner" was some sort of egregious act. My partner and I sat there for a moment speechless as we had never been so disrespected before over a simple question. We had thought that because it was a family establishment, that our server could have been joking around with us, but he was just being rude. So when we both got up from our seats, our server asked if we were going to just leave and I said that we were no longer going to eat here and we would not be taking our food to-go either; our server then walked over to the kitchen staff and threw his hands like a child having a temper tantrum, and said to Bob "well they're not going to eat", Bob replied to him "all you had to do was be polite" and our server then stormed off to the back after yelling at Bob "I WAS BEING POLITE!". Again, I want to thank Bob for his apology and his kindness and I want to thank the kitchen staff for making our meal, but after our server was so condescending about asking a simple question, we both lost our appetite and our date was ruined. I understand that some people could be having a bad day, but all our server had to say was "sorry, we don't have ranch here". But to go off on us and yell at us? That was uncalled for and completely unacceptable behavior. read more

Masullo is medium sized with tables not to close together. They are limited by the capacity of the pizza oven and if ordering Togo they will try to time your pick up according to the amount of orders in front of you. I tried the 3 meat and potato pizzas. The thin crust is crispy with good chew toppings are on the light side but both pizzas were delicious. Big eaters can finish a single pizza so plan accordingly. My friend and I wanted to meet up somewhere new to us to try, so we landed on this spot yesterday. We arrived around 5:45pm, and it was pretty peaceful and quiet at that time. It's an open dining space and you can see back into the open kitchen area, probably to show off their fire pizza oven. That was a good sign for me! I was also greeted and sat immediately, so that was cool because it wasn't too busy. She also brought us water glasses and a large jar of water. The actual space is very open, the floors are hard and walls are hard surfaces so voices carry very well in there and as foot traffic picks up it does get very loud. Definitely not a place for a quiet or intimate dinner or a calm place for a younger child, and not the place for a private conversation, but a fun place to catch up with friends or grab drinks and pizza. I ended up getting a Margherita style pizza because to me, the ultimate test is if you can make a Margherita style well then you can make any pizza. I was very impressed by the crust. To me, they have nailed the crust recipe perfectly. It was the perfect texture, had great flavor, and was the perfect thickness. The pizza had fresh basil but maybe just a couple leaves too few for the size of the pizza, the basil really enhances the flavor. For me the subpar parts were the tomato sauce and cheese. At a place like this I would expect the sauce and cheese to be a little more flavorful and cheese to be gooey and fresh. Now, this was still a delicious pizza and I have no regrets. I would just probably try a different pizza flavor here next time. The service was a little slow at first when the dining area was slow, but the traffic definitely picked up dramatically as we sat eating and the service did not decline whatsoever so that was good. We weren't stuck waiting forever for a check, which is my pet peeve, and our food and drinks came out in good timing so I was happy with service and the kitchen in those regards.
