Masullo's is a modern pizza establishment with excellent quality pizza. The open air environment lends itself to you being consumed by the aroma of freshly baked pizza as soon as you enter. On this visit, I ordered the rosemary bread with oil, meatballs, Eileen pizza, Elisa Pizza, and daily special pasta - Rigatoni with eggplant Ragu sauce. The rosemary bread was fresh and doughy. The meatballs were plated with a heap of fresh tomato sauce and dusted with Parmesan. The pizzas were decently sized ( appx 12" - definitely shareable) and had a thin crust with toppings that worked well. The pasta was cooked Al dente but I would have preferred a bit more sauce. Overall, I would suggest Masullo's to anyone looking for great pizza and comfortable ambience. read more

Man, this place is so so good so fire and food absolutely phenomenal so delicious. Their starter bread is like 17 year old. Do it is amazing. First time trying neopolitan pizza and certainly won't be my last! I tried several different ones here - Gilda, Eileen, Tova, and Triana. All were really good but my favorite was Gilda. From a great selection of local wines, absolutely amazing olive oil (perfect for dipping your pizza crust in!), and kind and attentive service, they check all of the boxes for a nice, relaxing meal. Wanted to visit for some time based on the reviews. I was in the mood for some pasta, but the menu was more pizza based with only one pasta dish. They were kind enough to make pasta and a meatball dish, which I appreciated. We started with the antipasto with a good assortment of cold meats, cheese, olives. It came with a mesh looking cracker that was a bit awkward to eat because it breaks into small pieces. Could use crackers or small slices of toasted bread instead. Hands down one of the best (if not the best) traditional style pizza joints in the area. I'm not trying to be hyperbolic, it's just that good, dine in or takeout. Don't come here expecting thick crust or crazy toppings (although their seasonal pies can be creative)--come here for that thin crust, perfect crisp, eat-it-with-a-knife-and-fork-if-it-falls-off kind of vibe. Masullo is one of those places that I had bookmarked for ages before finally having the chance to try it. My dad and I came for dinner on a Thursday night. I was surprised by the interior and the layout. It feels very open but industrial and kind of cold. Not at all what I pictured for this restaurant. To start, we split an order of fresh bread and dipping oil. We wanted to try the meatball but they were all out. The bread was warm and buttery tasting (give me all the carbs!). For my entrée, I decided to try the three meats pizza. My dad stuck with the traditional pepperoni. The pizza was good but a little too soggy and greasy in the center. Pizza is hands down the best in Sacramento. No argument. Two things: it gets super loud inside to the point where it's difficult to hear someone across the table is saying when the place is full. I am a pizza lover so I was very excited to try this pizza. We started with a couple cocktails, rosemary bread with olive oil and balsamic on the side. The bread came to the table warm and perfectly seasoned and dipped in the olive oil was even better. I could of literally ate all of the bread by myself! So fresh, simple but tremendously delicious! The mussels were nestled in a simple delicate broth, buttery and perfect portion size for me. Now the pizza... absolutely enjoyed the thin crust and tasty topping's with just the right amount of sauce for me. The service was friendly and accommodating. I really enjoyed my dinner there. "This is good!" said my wife after taking the initial bite of her Mixed Green Salad. After a full work day and a few hours house hunting, we were ready for wood fired Neapolitan artesian pizza from Masullo's Pizza on Riverside Blvd. We were certainly not disappointed. As we entered the establishment, we were greeted by a friendly hostess. She told us about the off menu seasonal fig pizza and explained the pizzas on the menu. We added the mixed green salad and waited for our order to arrive. The salad was a balanced mix of greens and prosciutto, tossed in balsamic vinaigrette with two wedges of bread. Tasty. The pizza came shortly thereafter and we admired the thin crust pizza with a touch of color on the edges that signified its time in the pizza oven. Very nice combination of flavors on a thin crust pizza. We left the restaurant at closing time and as we walked out, we knew this spot will be our go-to for pizza when we are in the Land Park area. The pizza here isn't for everyone, but it is delicious for us. We were greeted warmly by our server Richard when we arrived last night. The interior decor is simple and kind of echoey. The wood fired oven blazes away behind the counter. If it's too loud inside, they have a nice outdoor patio in back. We started with the rosemary bread and olive oil. With the first bite we knew we were in for a treat. The bread is a little fluffy with a subtle rosemary flavor. The olive oil compliments it marvelously. It has a special peppery flavor. We followed with two small salads. These were really good with grated powdered cheese on top, pleasant surprises of prosciutto. You can taste the freshness of the greens. Their pizza is the star of the meal. We ordered the three meat pizza. The pizza here is light and highlights each flavor of the meats, the sauce and the incredible sour dough crust. The ricotta cheese balls worked perfectly for us. They also have chili infused olive oil which makes the pizza pop with just enough heat to excite the taste buds. Pizza here is light and refreshing. Many pizzas from other places are loaded with mediocre ingredients and flavorless crusts. This results in a heavy greasy pie. Some folks like that. I love the simple quality of the pizza here. I went with one of their seasonal pizzas: spinach, olives, and pistachios with feta. A tasty combination I never would have dreamt up! I know the wet center is a hallmark of this style pizza, but it's not my favorite. That's a "me" thing and not a knock on their craft. It was obvious these pizzas are made with care and quality ingredients. What stood out to me was the flavor of the crust. So delicious! Not merely a bread vessel for the toppings as some pizza spots. Prices around $15+ for pizzas, which seemed reasonable. There was only one server when we went and she was really hustling it! Seating guests, waiting tables, and answering the phone. We had dinner here last night and ordered the large arugula salad to share. The first pizza we ate was the Jacqueline (potato, fontina, bacon, oregano) and it was pretty bland but good, with probably less than 10 tiny pieces of bacon on the entire pizza. We loved the spicy chili olive oil that was made available on the side. However, there were two serious issues. Issue #1: POOR SERVICE- Our server checked on us once, and we needed to wave him over several times to get what we needed. We would have gotten more drinks and even a dessert had he been more attentive. He also forgot to put in the order for our other pizza, which was the 3 Meats. When made aware of this, our server apologized and said he would give us the second pizza on the house and put it in a box. (When actually, we would have preferred to eat it hot at our table, so I felt like we were being rushed out.) He brought the pizza out in a box and we tasted a couple slices. This pizza was delicious. Issue #2: FOOD POISONING- 4 hours later, I woke up in the middle of the night with extreme food poisoning symptoms! Painful stomach cramping and I was literally holding a trash can to vomit while sitting on the toilet. I am not giving one star because to be fair, the food did initially taste good. But my experience afterwards was pretty terrible. I don't remember the last time I ever had food poisoning so this was rare. I felt better after getting it out of my system, so I'm pretty sure that's what it was. My sister in law who came with me also had diarrhea that night after eating here. This was my second time here. First time was a few years ago and while I don't remember much, I remember I left with a largely positive impression of them. I came back tonight and was sadly disappointed. I'm rating 2 stars because it wasn't BAD or GROSS per se, but I won't return. The pizza was....... Fine I guess. It was floppy, mostly crust, and honestly just incredibly bland and flavorless. I got the Margherita and my partner got the Eileen. My Margarita had about 2 tiny pieces of basil on it, and one piece didn't even have cheese. It was just very blah, and for $20 a plate, I was expecting more. House white wine was ok. Wasn't even chilled. The waitress was sort of rude and really rushed us out. We were given one bottle of water which we ran out of halfway through the meal and I was super thirsty but we were never offered more. They took our order, brought us our food, and didn't return until she came back and asked how we'd like to pay. Also, it was very humid inside and hot. Couldn't wait to leave.
