This tiny Roosevelt row place is located in an old house on a residential street. There is no big sign, so you strictly have to go by house number until you see the umbrellas in the front yard. It's so adorable surrounded by a white picket fence and honeysuckle bushes. There's a big front porch with tables as well. When you first walk in you'll see a sign telling you to order before you get a table. That kind of helps the flow of things. You order the counter and you're given a number. There is a staff member who helps you find a table, and you can wait outside in the back patio with misters while you wait for your table. The misters don't help at all and it's very hot out there - we ended up coming back in and waiting inside for a few minutes anyway. The menu is small, but it has a lot of good choices. My son got the veggie sandwich which was based around slices of roasted eggplant on the list delicious-looking bread. I ordered the BLT which had thick sliced bacon and a tomato habanero jam. Both were served with potato chips, and both were absolutely amazing. My son also got a Shaken Peanut Butter espresso, which was sooo yummy. This place is a real hidden gem. Our food was really, really good, and so was the coffee. When you come, keep in mind that it's a residential neighborhood with street parking. Timing is key--we got there around noon and we're third in line, but am hour later, the line was out the door. I think earlier is better. The breakfast menu and dinner menu look pretty good, so I'll be back to try that.

Loved when they were a cute little coffee truck (first place coffee) so I was excited to see they moved here. We just came for coffee but they added breakfast. I tried the shaken mint latte and it was delicious! I've noticed with places like these they want you to get in line to order first and then sit. With only one register and a long line, it can take a while especially when the line is out the door in the heat. I wish they had a separate line for just coffee or maybe another register. Their breakfast looked good, just try and get here early. Parking: very limited residential street parking. Service: very friendly!

Tucked inside a cute Roosevelt Historic District neighborhood sits Matilda's, a funky, retro, and hipster cafe that instantly feels like home. Instead of one large, open space, the cafe is split into several cozy, personal rooms. I grabbed a seat in a charming room featuring a yellow booth, red brick tables, and warm natural wood accents. (It was busy so I didn't take pics of every room. Didn't want to disturb other guests). Since it was my first time, a friendly staff member walked me through the entire menu. They serve drinks you won't find at standard coffee shops. I ordered the Caffe de Olla and enjoyed it. They also offer a full menu spanning breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Quick tip: Check their hours before you go. They close for an hour in the afternoon to prep for dinner service. As an all-day cafe, Matilda's was a fun find. I loved the vibe, and I will definitely be bringing friends next time.

LOVEEEE Matilda's so much. My fiancé and I came to celebrate my birthday and our anniversary. We didn't have a reservation and were able to just walk in. It was our first time having dinner (we've been in for breakfast several times- yum!!) and it was incredible. The standout was the charred leek dip. We also got the handkerchief pasta and the bistro steak. Absolutely delightful!!!! I appreciated how the meal was paced and our server was on the same wavelength as us in terms of timing. In a world that's always 'go go go', it was nice to hang out for a while and enjoy our meal. I look forward to the next time we spend an evening in Matilda's and wish that I could have the charred leek dip everyday...

Super-cute spot in a beautiful historic home with different rooms, a back patio and a front porch. I hear you can also sit in the front lawn. Lots of cool decoration items to look at on the walls. We went around 8 am on a Friday morning and got in right away, but on weekends the wait can be really long. Similarly, parking can be really tricky. Staff was so sweet - the lady who took our order was super-friendly. We had a giant chocolate chip cookie. It's very tasty and we appreciated the hint of salt. My breakfast sandwich was yummy - I had the avocado inside, with egg, white cheddar cheese, aioli and chili spread. My friend had the Brioche Bread Pudding French Toast. It didn't take too long for the food to come out. And they have decaf if you're sensitive to caffeine!

Super cute converted home on 6th street in Phoenix. Seating on the big porch as well as seating in the back yard with misters going in the AZ heat. Inside a handful of tables and a nice tall bar. My daughter and I went in for coffee and it was very good. Service was fun. Everyone was so nice. I believe they close at 3 and reopen for dinner at 4. They serve breakfast lunch and dinner, great coffee selections, pastries too. Genuinely enjoyed the atmosphere.

Really yummy place for brunch. It's no secret- on a Sunday by 11a, there's a long line out the door and down the sidewalk. Be prepared for a wait. Order at the counter with friendly staff and then wander around to find a spot. We had no problem (two stools at the counter) but might be tough for a larger group, especially on the weekend. Savory toast was fantastic and the "Golden" espresso drink with whole milk had just the right amount of sweetness. Lots of other yummy looking options on the menu. Recommend!

Definitely a whole vibe! Pretty sure I dressed completely wrong for the front lawn - picnic baskets and tables and blankets splayed out like a novelist's dream, including the French style water carafes. I'll know for next time. We ordered at the front and I immediately realized I'd been here before - when it was the uber popular Garden Bar - also impossible to get a table for. Lucked out and got a table inside but had just missed the cut off for breakfast food (11am) so we got the only item left served all day for breakfast and a lunch item (turkey club) on a whim. I had been really excited to try the matcha beverages but was sorely disappointed when I got the Matcha Rose and it tasted like it was flavored with pickle juice of some sort. Definitely had me confused and I had to ask the waiter to shed some light. Ended up swapping it out for the Copa de Oro instead which was not my usual choice since I'm not a fan of orange but wanted an espresso bevy with a kick to match my sammy . I was much more impressed with this on but took the orange peel out. The foam at the top is still heavily orange flavored but I didn't mind this flavor much. It was smooth and presentation is very nice. To be expected, the inside was hard to find a table but we snagged one and had a hard time hearing each other so the community table out back seemed promising with the misters. The only problem were the flies. We were attacked by at least 2-3 at a time and there was a total of around 5-6 just around us. It was probably because we were the only ones left with food outside, but nevertheless very annoying - so please invest in table fans! After we ate, I waited for a box but that definitely took way too long so I just asked a different waitress and then we re-located to alongside the wall right under the misters. It was much better when I boxed the food. Relaxing atmosphere to enjoy a drink in an afternoon gardenscape people watching. :) Will dress in my picnic dress next time!

Now if you're looking for a place to relax and enjoy the tranquility of a quiet neighborhood vibe...this is the spot!!!! So as you arrive. After finding street parking. You might miss it if you're not paying attention. It's snugged right into this lovely house. Indoor and outdoor seating. Tip top service and delicious food. A great assortment of drinks to choice from... A must try spot for anyone craving a bite and a drink in a, not in your everyday restaurant.... Thank you Matilda's. I will definitely be back!!!

I stopped by Matilda's for breakfast and really enjoyed the vibe. The atmosphere is fantastidefinitely the kind of place where you want to linger over a cup of coffee. The food itself was delicious. I ordered the breakfast sandwich and the potatoes, and both were hits. The sandwich was perfectly assembled with fresh ingredients, and the potatoes were seasoned well and had that ideal crispiness. My only slight hesitation is the cost. It felt a little pricy for a standard breakfast, even considering the high quality. That said, if you're looking for a great environment and a solid meal, it's worth a visit! The service was very respectful!

    Breakfast yummy and roasted potatoes

Everyone here was so nice, I got lots of recommendations from the workers, and I think Matilda actually brought out my food herself. I didn't think to get the hot sauce until it was recommended to me after we already paid, and they were accommodating enough to give it to us on the house. There was plenty of seating even though the line took about 20 minutes to get through, we didn't have any issues with the first seat. They even have picnic settings outside so you can eat and enjoy the weather while it's still good. Our drinks were decent, and I would say relatively well priced. The sandwich comes with either avocado or bacon, and we chose bacon. I wish it came with greens or maybe a tomato, and maybe that the bacon was crispier. But the flavor was perfect, the only they put inside really brings it all together. The roasted potatoes were perfectly soft and crispy, with the hot sauce and aïoli 10/10!! Check them out!

Pro-tip: Expect a long line and tight parking. The potatoes are good to share between two people. Highlights: It's a great place to meet up with girlfriends because of the cute aesthetics and simple menu. I personally love their collaboration with The Dinesaur bakery. I thought the breakfast sammy was delicious, especially in flavor and the texture of the bun. The service is great and I love that you can just bring a pitcher of water back to your table. Lowlights: I came with my husband who's a big meat eater and value eater so it wasn't a great place for him. There's definitely a lack of protein on the breakfast menu. It's a very carb heavy breakfast even for me. I didn't really enjoy the sweet toast as I thought the ricotta was too thick and the brioche a bit boring the pistachio rose drink was a bit artificial in flavor and too sweet as well.

This place is so charming. As you walk in you are greeted with a warm and sincere hello. The menu items all sound delicious. They sound familiar and comforting but all are interesting and a little unexpected too. I went with a matcha which was delicious and the soft scrambled eggs that were cooked to perfection. I can't wait to come back on a cooler morning to take advantage of their patio.

The only reason I didn't give this updated review a 5-I ordered the banh mi sando and the sandwich was so dry. Chicken was dry. The cilantro wasn't chopped I had to pick out long stems. Also I got the AZ frosè and the rosemary syrup was just way too pungent to enjoy the whole beverage. I wished it had been more balanced. Especially when the French fries are heavily seasoned with rosemary--a bit too much.

Carry On actually called me to confirm our "tickets," which I thought was really cute. The whole experience kind of started a couple of days before our actual "departure time." They also reminded us to park in the Renaissance Square parking garage under Wren & Wolf, and they were able to validate our parking for three hours. We had to go to Wren & Wolf first to pick up our Carry On tickets. We got there early, and they let us relax in their couch area while we waited for our departure time. The walk from the Renaissance Square parking garage to Wren & Wolf was easy. You just follow the signs, and the whole walk is inside the building, which was perfect because it was so hot outside. While we were waiting, we could order drinks and chill, just like being in an airport lounge. When it was time for departure, we walked outside the building, and Carry On was right around the corner. You won't miss it because you'll see the Carry On Air flight schedule above the gate door. Right on time, we were greeted by a friendly flight attendant. Once we walked into the cabin, it really felt like we were inside a first-class flight lounge. Our flight attendant served us drinks right after we sat down, and we also ordered more cocktails and snacks from their menu. The captain spoke to us over the speaker, just like on a real flight. As we took off, we could even feel the seats moving. Looking out the "window," we saw buildings, clouds surrounding us, and even experienced turbulence I'm not going to tell you too much because I don't want to ruin the experience. What an unexpectedly fun night!…read more I honestly had no idea what I was walking into when a friend told me I had to check out Bikini Lounge because they know I'm drawn to all things eclectic. They were absolutely right. From the moment the friendly bouncer smiled and said, "Step right on in," I was hooked. Yoooow!! The first DJ was incredible. He was spinning all kinds of trip-hop, indie, electronic, and remix-style tracks that had everybody partyin'. It wasn't your typical dance music, but every song seemed to connect with somebody in the room. The crowd was incredibly diverse, and it was so much fun watching people of every age and style dancing and nobody cared. The second DJ, a younger woman, shifted the vibe a bit and leaned more toward a younger crowd. It wasn't quite my style, so I took that opportunity to grab a seat at the bar and do what I apparently do best... chat with complete strangers. I'm a talker, and thankfully they seemed just as happy to strike up a conversation. This isn't some fancy cocktail lounge, and that's exactly the point. It's authentic. There were people dancing at the bar, grooving in their booths, bouncing in their seats, and filling the dance floor with great energy. I came by myself, and within minutes a cool group of strangers invited me to squeeze into their booth like we'd all come together. That's the kind of place this is. At one point they even offered me a glass of beer from their pitcher. I politely declined (look at me making responsible life choices... sometimes), but then I realized almost everyone had pitchers! So I sauntered over to the bar. I did have to wait a bit; apparently chivalry doesn't extend to letting a woman cut the line, but once I reached the bartender, the service was fast and friendly. Every trip back to the bar was the same. No complaints there. As the night went on, the energy just kept building. Before I knew it, I was on the dance floor sweating, smiling, and dancing with complete strangers. After a while, I had to retreat to the patio just to catch my breath before heading back in for more. My ankles are still sore... and the glutes? Fuhgetabouttit! The best part of the night wasn't the music or even the drinks. It was the people. Every generation was represented. Every fashion style imaginable. Every personality. And somehow it all worked. There was this genuine sense of joy and community that you just don't find everywhere. If you're looking for polished and upscale, this probably isn't your spot. But if you want great music, a welcoming crowd, zero pretension, and one of those nights where you leave happier than you arrived... give Bikini Lounge a shot. I went in not knowing what to expect. I left wondering why I'd waited so long to go.
