Versailles (grilled chicken, smashed avocado, parmesan, aioli, arugula)
    Sarah A.

Loved my lunch at Matine's Cafe on a sunny Friday afternoon. Adorable interior, pretty patio, pleasant service, and great food--what else could one ask for? The Versailles (grilled chicken, smashed avocado, parmesan, aioli, arugula--I held the truffle oil) sandwich on a French baguette with a side salad (mixed greens with a balsamic drizzle) was absolutely delicious. Eating said meal on the patio in the sunshine (partially under an umbrella) with an iced tea (tea was brewed and then poured over ice) was lovely. P.S. Though I didn't indulge, the pastries looked delicious.

Firstly they moved to Highland Avenue, very nice. Love the pillows! The hot coffee that I ordered was barely warm. I asked for cream and they bought me coffee mate creamers. So I asked do you all have cream? And she bought me some fresh cream. And a new hot cup of coffee. I ordered the butternut squash soup with goat cheese. Terrible. No flavor. Warm at best. I wanted apple pie. They had none left. I arrived at about 3 PM on a Wednesday afternoon. They're doing a lot of business . I wish them well and I will be back. Looking forward to a different experience though!

Ice over tea peach mage - tastes like water

Review is a little bit of a roller coaster. I ordered a tea over ice - mango peach ($8ish?) and the smashed avocado tartine($16) and I left a $3 To-Go. 35 minutes goes by and someone asks me if I was waiting for an order, I say "yes, it's been about 30 minutes". She goes and asks the woman who took my order (who passed me at least 4 times while I waited) who then grabs a Togo box that had been sitting by someone's apron for about 25 minutes. I had seen it there cause I went to the cart for sugars. I took a pic after 30 minutes cause I was concerned it was mine. I asked for a remake cause I told them I'd seen it for 25 minutes there at least. Woman goes to back for MAYBE two minutes, and hands me a box. I watched them steep my tea for maybe 2 minutes again. No compensation offered after the 40 minute wait and forgotten order. Not surprising the tea tasted like water. The Tartine was good, but for $16 I got ONE piece of untoasted bread, avocado, greens, drizzle and crumbled cheese. Not worth it in my book. Unsure how authentic location is. Baked goods questionable on freshness. I personally saw them taking macarons out of a sealed plastic wrapped packaging to put on the display so those are definitely not made there. Atmosphere was very loud, but it would be a great conversational place. I'm sure eating there would be a different experience than my order to-go. I left EXTREMELY overstimulated and irritated.

    Carmel Latte

Food / Service: They have a lot of options on the menu and seasonal specialties you can choose from. I ultimately ordered a plain caramel latte and it was delivered to my table when complete. The service was, of course, pretty quick and the cup was a pretty generous size! Atmosphere: The cafe looks small from the outside, but it's fairly spacious. I went on a Thursday morning and there was a sizable crowd there by the time I left. Though seating is pretty close together, you can have conversations with your friends without disturbing anyone.

Cute place. Huge menu accommodating any taste. They even let you sub out what you don't. Cute seating area outside. Tables are bistro small. Reminded me of trips to France. Food was a bit cool but good.

Very cute little French cafe in Chestnut hill. We got the strawberry pastry and macaroon and they're both delicious! Can't wait to come back to try the coffee and more.

The sandwich I got was amazing. The outdoor seating area was nice and secluded. This has been my go to weekend brunch spot for awhile.

I saw some nice appetizers and chose a sandwich as well. I started with the Artichoke Hummus with Feta and Grilled Focaccia - it was excellent! Large chunks of artichoke with the creamy hummus and little balls of feta were such a great combination. However, it was the Grilled Focaccia that brought the spread to its peak. Light and slightly crunchy it was so delicious with the hummus! Next up, the Pistachio Herbed Ricotta with Lavender Honey Bruschetta. I took my first bite started to chew and had to close my eyes as I was transported to a 'heavenly' taste. The pistachio with the creamy ricotta was amazing, and with the lavender honey, it was over the top. I told the server it could be a dessert as well! After two great appetizers, I was really looking forward to my 'main dish' - the Smoked Chicken Sandwich with Cabot Cheddar, fresh tomato and arugula, and a truffle herbed aioli (I opted out of the bacon). I took a bite and of this thick smoked chicken breast with a fabulous aioli dressing and was delighted it was every bit as delicious as the appetizers! The chicken was tender complimented by the cheese, tomato and arugula-but I had the dressing come on the side and found myself adding more and more, it was so good! What a gem in Center Cjty - it's a must try!

I tried: + Pickled shrimp + Half dozen east coast oysters + green garlic escar-roll + Heirloom tomatoes with peaches and fromage blanc + castle valley polenta with corn and chanterelles + Fried zucchini flowers + Extra sour baguette The tomatoes and polenta were the top highlights. Also loved the pickled shrimp, oysters, and escar-roll. Only miss was the zucchini flowers - couldn't really taste the flowers, just batter, and the ratatouille wasn't my favorite flavor. Otherwise everything was a hit! We were too full for dessert but they gave us samples of the blackberry cheesecake soft serve which was phenomenal. Perfect ending!

Then, for the entrees (we shared), we ordered the bavette (steak) with green beans and potato salad and striped bass, and for dessert, we ordered the corn brûlée. For drinks, two of us ordered a cantaloupe mocktail which was very refreshing. Overall, the food was great. I never knew you could pickle shrimp but pairing it with the saltine crackers was a nice touch since the pickled shrimp would be too sour on its own. The green garlic escar-roll tasted like a fancy garlic roll and it was pretty big for one person so it was easy to share. However, it was hard to cut and share the quail "galan-terrine" since the terrine is inside a quail bird and the bones were still there. The richness of the terrine was balanced with the brioche bread, since we spread it on top of the bread. The bavette (wagyu beef) was delicious but it was a bit on the chewy side since it was cooked medium rare (they didn't ask if we had a preference for the steak - rare, medium rare, medium well, well, etc) and the striped bass was fresh (however, the portion of the bass was small). For dessert, we ordered the corn brûlée and we didn't realize it was a corn brûlée (thought it was a regular crème brûlée at first) but it did have a subtle corn flavor, if you like the taste of corn desserts. Since it was my birthday and I made the reservation letting them know, they surprised us with two complimentary desserts: soft serve in mini sauce cups and a caramel ganache. They also gave me a super cute card with the My Loup logo (wiener dog) signed by the staff. This was one of the best birthday dinners I've had and I felt special. I would come back again, especially to celebrate special occasions and birthdays. The staff were sweet, the food was delicious, and the extra desserts and card were wonderful. :)
