After seeing Dave Portnoy try this place, I had to as well.... We ordered a couple personal pizzas. The Big Matt - My son got this one. He said it was like a Big Mac. He really enjoyed it . I ordered the Molto Meat! Yum!! I added jalapeños to it. The big plus for me, the jalapeños are fresh! I'd definitely order again.

My first time trying a Mattenga's pepperoni pizza was a delight! The thin crust was baked perfectly, topped with the right amount of cheese and jumbo pepperonis. I'm thrilled that I discovered this neighborhood pizzeria.

Great pizza and great staff! Full transparency, there are plenty of pizza "joints" in the area and each one has its own speciality. I would have to say that Mattenga's is in my top 5, in no particular order since depends on what type of pizza I'm craving. (Ex. Supreme, Margarita etc.) The Supreme and Malto , Hawaiian pizza are my favorite at Mattenga's. I need to try their brisket pizza. My first visit was at their Schertz location. Happy that location at Wilderness Oak(close to home)

At first I thought this was a dine in type of pizza joint but it is like a "domino's" or other pizza spot in the sense that you just order and pick it up at the counter, BUT way better. To say this is a neighborhood pizza place where they just make it and you take it home, they are impressive. Their pizza is really good, the crust isn't doughy and heavy, it's thin and crispy. The service was really good, everyone was super friendly and attentive as soon as you walk in. The prices are reasonable considering the quality, except for customizing a pizza the way you want it can be pricy. Each topping is $1.99 up to $5 so it adds up quick. I personally find that crazy for the price per topping, hence the one star drop, but the flavor and quality of the pizza is really good. There really isn't a dine in option, it just has a little bar with some stools for you to wait for your pizza. When I just want something quick without having to go to a restaurant, this is a really good option.

Having recently moved to Texas, I am always looking for new pizza spots to try. I had never heard of Mattenga's, until they showed up on a random list of best pizza places in specific categories. Mattenga's happened to be chosen for best pizza commercial. I looked them up and they looked pretty good. So, I happened to be in San Antonio for the day and thought I would give them a shot, so this location happened to be the one I was closest too. It is not a sit down location. However, it does have counter space along the wall and window, with a few chairs. I think this was a Papa John's before, so you have an idea of the size. I ordered a BYOP 16" and some wings. The gentleman that took my order asked if I would like to try their pepperoni rolls, on the house. I gladly accepted. They have Pepsi products here, so I ordered water, because I would never drink Pepsi. They didn't even have Dr. Pepper, which I would have preferred. He informed me that they didn't have water in the system yet, since they had just opened recently, so he offered the water free of charge. The pizza rolls came out first. We were asked if we would like to try either of the house made ranch dips. The Texas Ranch ( jalapeño cilantro ranch) and Mattenga's Ranch (basil garlic ranch). We opted for both. I do love a good ranch dip and these did not disappoint! Probably the best ranch that I have ever tasted. The pepperoni rolls were very good as well. The wings came out next and they were just the way I like them; crispy and saucy. I am definitely ordering them again. The pizza soon followed, and it looked great! It tasted very good. Crispy undercarriage, and pillowy cornicione. I really enjoyed the cheese pull, as well as the quality of their cheese. They use a conveyor oven for everything, so the wait time wasn't too bad. I have been back to this location one more time since my first visit. So, it's pretty safe to say, I will be a repeat customer. I will definitely try the other locations as well. However, it will be hard to do that, when this is a pretty great location with great customer service. They take pride in the product that they are putting out and it really shows in the quality.

We usually get this door dashed to us because it's close by, but today we went in. Amazing service! The guys were super accommodating and helpful. He asked if I still wanted Parmesan on the bread sticks because of my dairy allergy which he remembered with my cheeseless pizza. I know it's weird, but it's how I get to still enjoy pizza. The pizza and breadsticks were great and the him showing us the pizza before we left guaranteed the service and quality! 5/5

Very delicious pizza and BBQ wings. The pizza is New York style, so thin crust. I order a pizza with pepperoni, bacon, tomatoes and black olives. The wings were delicious, although I preferred crispy wings. But still delicious.

Great pizza! Love that you can order 1/2 and 1/2 with speciality pizzas. We ordered half Santa Fe and Honey Bexar as well as a plain pepperoni. Unfortunately they forgot the hatch green chili on our Santa Fe, but it was still delicious.

The first night I was greeted by a friendly host and sat at the bar, where Billy took great care of me. He recommended the Cotto e Salsiccia, and I'm so glad he did. It was easily one of the best pizzas I've had. While I was there, the cheesemaker let me try a bite of the fresh mozzarella they were making in-house. It was still warm and absolutely delicious. The next night I was feeling a little homesick after being away for work, and all I could think about was that pizza. I walked back in and the host greeted me by name. I sat at the bar again, where another bartender remembered me from the night before, and Billy came over just to say hi. It seems like such a small thing, but when you're traveling alone, being welcomed back like that can completely change your evening. What really impressed me was seeing that it wasn't just me. The guy next to me ordered two pizzas to go, and when the chef brought them out he smiled and said, "Oh, Jose! I thought this order looked familiar!" You can tell they actually know their regulars and genuinely enjoy what they do. The second night I ordered the Fontina e Salsiccia, and somehow it was just as good as the first pizza. Everything is cooked in the wood-fired oven--even the wings--and you can taste the difference. The crust has that perfect char, the ingredients are fresh, and it's the kind of authentic Neapolitan pizza that keeps you thinking about it long after you've left. I've eaten at a lot of good restaurants while traveling, but very few have made me feel as welcome as Dough did. Great food is one thing. Great people are what made me come back the very next day. I'll absolutely be back the next time I'm in San Antonio.

The food feels like the chefs were given good quality materials, but had no idea what to do with them. We ordered a funghi pizza to share then a cinghiale, a costine (short ribs), and a dentice (bass). Funghi pizza was the only dish that made coming worth it at all. It had a nice flavor, but if you're expecting the notes of an earthy mushroom flavor, don't. It's just a nicer version of a standard cheese pizza topped with some onions and mushroom. The cinghiale was just stunningly mediocre. The meat was flavorful, but the pasta itself was shockingly bland. It was just so... ok. The dentice was the best of the 3 individual dishes, but it is just what you would expect some average short ribs with random sauce to taste. The costine was just terrible. Salty on the outside, yet flavorless on the inside. Avoid at all costs. The service was passable, but they clearly overwork their servers as one server just handles an entire section and is too overwhelmed to be timely. I came to cheer myself up, but honestly it only made dinner comically worse. I seriously can't imagine what would cause someone to rate this as 5 stars. Maybe if they thought Olive Garden was 4.5, then I guess this would barely be a 5 in comparison? Either way, if you're looking for good food for your dinner, keep looking. You won't find it here.

Every dish feels thoughtfully curated with tried-and-true recipes rooted in Chef Luca and his family's Northern Italian traditions. This is the kind of place where quality takes priority over quantity. Our server, Gary, was fantastic. He was friendly, incredibly knowledgeable, and passionate about Italian food and wine. His recommendations were spot-on and his enthusiasm felt so genuine. We started with a bread basket accompanied by a little sampling of tapenade, which was savory, briny, and a perfect complement to the warm bread. Came in with a group of four, we kicked things off with the burrata starter--a surprisingly fun and shareable adventure of baked burrata, fresh crostini, roasted cauliflower, asparagus, sun-dried tomatoes, artichokes, and basil cream. There was a lot happening on the plate, but it all worked beautifully together. For our entrées, we ordered the Tartufo, Cinghiale, Bolognese, and Carbonara. And let me just say, the Tartufo was a full-on dinner performance. Gary brought out steaming hot tagliatelle pasta and tossed it tableside inside a giant wheel of Parmesan. He then topped it with crab meat in brown butter before finishing it with a generous shaving of truffle. Every bite was like a perfectly timed symphony of flavors--rich, savory, buttery, and earthy, with nothing outshining the other. I'd put this dish up against anyone's nonna. I sampled the other three entrées as well, and every one was delicious. The gnocchi in the Cinghiale is an absolute must-try--pillowy, texturally delightful, and packed with flavor. Thank you, Nonna Osteria, for such an epic culinary experience. And a special shoutout to Gary for guiding us through the menu and making an already great dinner even better.
