Stopped by with decent expectations and walked away feeling pretty middle-of-the-road. The pizza itself lands around a 6.5-6.8 out of 10. It's a step above your typical fast-casual chain, but not by much. The crust had a nice bit of browning, which was a plus, but the sauce runs noticeably sweet -- giving it more of that Pizza Hut-style vibe. It's solid, just not something that stands out or keeps you thinking about it later. If I were rating on pizza alone, it'd probably sit at a 4-star experience. Where things slipped was with our order. We did a half-and-half custom pie: half supreme with no olives or mushrooms. That didn't quite translate in execution. That side showed up overloaded with olives -- way beyond normal -- and still had mushrooms on it. Not the end of the world, but definitely frustrating when you customize and it comes out off. We also paid for extra dipping sauces that never made it to us, which added to the letdown. As for the ambiance, don't expect a dine-in experience. It's more like walking into a Little Caesars-style setup -- very basic, grab-and-go feel -- with just a single picnic table outside. Not really a place you'd plan to sit and enjoy a meal. Would I come back? Maybe if I needed something quick and convenient. But it's not somewhere I'd go out of my way to recommend or call a must-try spot. read more

At first I thought this was a dine in type of pizza joint but it is like a "domino's" or other pizza spot in the sense that you just order and pick it up at the counter, BUT way better. To say this is a neighborhood pizza place where they just make it and you take it home, they are impressive. Their pizza is really good, the crust isn't doughy and heavy, it's thin and crispy. The service was really good, everyone was super friendly and attentive as soon as you walk in. The prices are reasonable considering the quality, except for customizing a pizza the way you want it can be pricy. Each topping is $1.99 up to $5 so it adds up quick. I personally find that crazy for the price per topping, hence the one star drop, but the flavor and quality of the pizza is really good. There really isn't a dine in option, it just has a little bar with some stools for you to wait for your pizza. Having recently moved to Texas, I am always looking for new pizza spots to try. I had never heard of Mattenga's, until they showed up on a random list of best pizza places in specific categories. Mattenga's happened to be chosen for best pizza commercial. I looked them up and they looked pretty good. So, I happened to be in San Antonio for the day and thought I would give them a shot, so this location happened to be the one I was closest too. It is not a sit down location. However, it does have counter space along the wall and window, with a few chairs. I think this was a Papa John's before, so you have an idea of the size. I ordered a BYOP 16" and some wings. The gentleman that took my order asked if I would like to try their pepperoni rolls, on the house. I gladly accepted. They have Pepsi products here, so I ordered water, because I would never drink Pepsi. They didn't even have Dr. Pepper, which I would have preferred. He informed me that they didn't have water in the system yet, since they had just opened recently, so he offered the water free of charge. The pizza rolls came out first. We were asked if we would like to try either of the house made ranch dips. The Texas Ranch ( jalapeño cilantro ranch) and Mattenga's Ranch (basil garlic ranch). We opted for both. I do love a good ranch dip and these did not disappoint! Probably the best ranch that I have ever tasted. The pepperoni rolls were very good as well. The wings came out next and they were just the way I like them; crispy and saucy. I am definitely ordering them again. The pizza soon followed, and it looked great! It tasted very good. Crispy undercarriage, and pillowy cornicione. I really enjoyed the cheese pull, as well as the quality of their cheese. They use a conveyor oven for everything, so the wait time wasn't too bad. I have been back to this location one more time since my first visit. So, it's pretty safe to say, I will be a repeat customer. I will definitely try the other locations as well. However, it will be hard to do that, when this is a pretty great location with great customer service. We usually get this door dashed to us because it's close by, but today we went in. Amazing service! The guys were super accommodating and helpful. For a local place their specialty pizzas were the saving grace and pretty good I got the Texas pothole and it was well liked. On the other hand you may want to place your order an extra 15 minutes earlier than you expect to arrive. Mattenga's finally made it to our neck of the woods! We were hoping they would have indoor seating but, apart from two barstools, they do not. No tables, just a small counter area with stools. Still wanted to try it, so we had to place an order for carry-out. 16" pepperoni, sausage, and mushroom and an order of buffalo wings with an "extra crispy" request attached. Everything was ready within about 15 minutes! The pizza looked beautiful! It still looked fantastic by the time we got home but, and this is the reason why we don't get carry-out, after riding along for 10 minutes steaming in a box, the bottom was soggy and floppy. Ingredients were fresh and great quality, sauce was tasty and not too sweet. The crust had really good flavor and would have probably been perfect if we could have dined in. The wings also had great flavor but weren't extra crispy. Definitely recommend them if you live near enough to not get a soggy pizza! read more

We have ordered pickup twice. Both times our order has been ready in less than 15 minutes and it's been great! The staff is so kind and knowledgeable. We've tried the pizza, calzone, wings and breadsticks. Pizza was DELICIOUS! On par with Stouts and Trilogy. Their marinara is awesome and we love all the special ranch sauces. Highly recommend. Always looking for a good pizza restaurant for Friday night Pizza movie night. First let me say the pizza was actually pretty good however the person taking my order did not listen. First I ordered a 20" supreme without Green Bell Peppers, as you can see by the photo there were a lot of bell peppers on this pizza. Secondly I asked for Crispy, as you can see by the toppings and the limp slice it was not. The young man also hung up without telling me how long before the pizza would be ready, got a text about 10 minutes later that it was ready. (I do like the text feature just unexpected for it to be ready so quickly) once we got home I picked off the bell peppers , then I used a pan with some olive oil heated to crisp the bottom. After making those minor adjustments the pizza was very tasty. Ordered to based on Yelp reviews for a pizza/wing place near the location I was visiting. Unfortunately, I did not realize that when I looked at the website, I was directed to the location on O'Conner. When I picked up my order the mix up was when the mixup was realized. Although the mixup was my fault for moving so hasty, the locations did not make it an issue to cancel my order at 9'Conner and replace at Wilderness Oak location. The 20" pizza fed 5 adults and there were slices left over. Slices ARE BIG, so we cut a few smaller to spread out the serving. We ordered lemon pepper, original, and bbq wings. They do not have a boneless option and the wings were small but again, 5 adults and 2 kids ate, with 3 wings left over. The total for a small cheese pizza, large pepperoni pizza and 3 orders of wings was $90. We all agreed that the PIZZA WAS EXCELLENT, wings were very good, food was hot, fresh, great tasting pizza dough and plenty of food to feed the family. Ordered the pizza for delivery. Opened the box, the slices were a bit tussled and the pizza was like warm. Crust to cheese to toppings ratio was spot on but I wish there were more of each with this pizza, it just seemed like the overall crust was too thin, cheese layer not thick enough, and toppings layer good just wish there were more. Quality of toppings was outstanding. The cheese was nice and salty, pepperoni represented well, Italian sausage had a nice zing of spice to it, the crust had a great chew but not crispy as one would expect with such a thin crust. Shelf life of the pizza in the fridge is about 1.5 days tops before the crust starts to turn into dried flaky card board. The overall experience was good, I just wish it came fresher, hotter, and had more of everything for the price point. read more
