It goes to voicemail and the outgoing message says to NOT leave a message as the VM is not checked. No other option was given. We feel so lucky to live close to Matteo's! It is a great place to go - for lunch with a friend, for a glass of wine and appetizers, for a nice dinner out. We have never been disappointed when we are there. They have a truly lovely patio, and that is our favorite place to be from late March to early October; lunch or dinner! Hello! First off I had not tried Mateos food before but during this time I am trying to support local by buying dinner or lunch places occasionally during this pandemic. My meal at Mateos was there BBQ Family Dinner I think the price was $55 or $60 ... the meal and flavor was terrific! Tri tip, rack of ribs, Moroccan chicken skewers, cold slaw, beans and bread. Everything was done with care. The food ALL tasted great and best yet we ate on this for 3 days. The packaging of the food was thoughtful and you could tell they care about what they are doing! The food is typically good. Historically, the service is horrible, even with the owners kids (family) that work there. Tonight was no exception as far as service. The final nail in the coffin for us tonight was 2 drinks for $50! No indication prior to ordering 2 Manhattans, with what was described as an "alright" bourbon. The later explanation was that a Manhattan is basically a "double pour" and that's how they charge. BTW, we've never been charged double for a Manhattan or any other mixed drink. Frank Family Dinner. I was so excited to attend this dinner. We attend FF dinners every time we can. One of the great things about FF dinners is that the cost is always worth it because the pours are generous so with the addition of food it always is a bargain. Not last night. Absolutely disappointed. First there was check in and then she stopped. Started checking in again. The house was completely frazzled. We all stood around asking each other if we were to go into the patio or remain in the parking lot. No one knew! We were all kept outside in the parking lot area and were not allowed to access to the restaurant. Very disorganized. Were crowded onto the patio like cattle. Had to push by each other, intimately and inappropriately. Light pours. Wine was set out for each course long before the food was served. A couple at our table had to order a bottle of wine because it was either starve to death or die of thirst. Mediocre food. Complete overuse of polenta which accompanied almost every dish. Unappetizing in the presentation. Front of the house leads were disorganized, condescending, rude, and could be seen frantically racing through the restaurant. The servers were outstanding, but clearly were victims of management. Our servers were doing their best to appease guests but were called off by the leads. Our requests were ignored. They failed to track pourings and missed some guests. However, we watched as they carefully measured out each drop of wine as if it was liquid gold. We did notice that several guests were given additional glasses of wine which showed favoritism towards regulars. Good for them. Not so much for the rest of us. I had heard a lot of great things about this restaurant and from the few reviews I've read I believe it probably does well on a regular night when not fully booked. It just couldn't handle the numbers. The people at our table were wonderful. We enjoyed socializing. However we were VERY disappointed. We fully voiced our concerns to our sales rep. We refused to purchase wine through the restaurant because we felt it didn't deserve any more of our money. We slipped the rep our (very large) purchase to be filled by the winery. Won't be returning. Previous wine dinner was at Sienna's in El Do. Generous pourings, completely organized, perfect guest service, and wonderful food. I didn't expect that level of hospitality at Matteo's, but I feel that Jack In The Box might have done a better job, especially with hospitality. I do have certain expectations when dining out. As a matter of fact, when I was walking by tables, the staff pushed past me rather than standing aside to let me pass by. This is but a small courtesy extended in most all restaurants. We parked at the other end of the parking lot because we were planning to have dinner at a different place but at the last minute decided to go to Matteo's. We had never eaten there so we decided to try it out. When we got there, they said that only a high top table was available so we sat there. I noticed there were several open dining tables but we sat where they took us. And we placed our drink order: red wine and a beer. Now it's time to check out the menu. The menu had many great options. There was also a special grill menu available. This menu had grilled sea bass for $19. That was perfect for me! My husband decided on a grilled pork sandwich with fries. Okay we were ready to order. Our server had come by a couple of minutes ago and asked if we were ready but at the time we needed just a couple more minutes. We sat there and waited, and waited, and waited, and waited for her to come back to take our order. I watched a man and his son get seated at a nearby table after us and they ordered way before us. I tried for a good 15-20 minutes to flag several people but it was like we were invisible! Finally, someone walked by on her way to the kitchen! Later, we found out it was the owner. I made sure she didn't walk past us. I told her we had been waiting a long time to order but our server was busy at the other end of the restaurant serving a large party. She apologized and said she was new and would take our order. I ordered the sea bass.....she gave me this look and I knew that they were out!!! I said I hope that they didn't sell the last one a few minutes ago because I'd been waiting a long time to order. I was so disappointed to say the least. I just ordered a beet arugula salad and my husband got his pork sandwich. I have to say, when we finally got our food, it was delicious. My salad was excellent and my husband said the pork sandwich was very good because the pork was well seasoned and juicy. After we finished our meal, our server came by to say that she was sorry she was held up. Well at least she came by to apologize. She also said that they would compensate us. When we got our check, the restaurant showed us how much they cared about our poor service by taking off a glass of beer $3. Wow! This was almost worse than nothing! It was so cheap and really left us with a very bad taste. This is why I am giving that rating of 2 stars. I considered giving 1 star but the food was good. read more

I like to support local businesses in my area, but I can no longer support Matteo's. My wife and I enjoy a glass of wine and a bite to eat after a busy work week. Every time we go to Matteo's there seems to be an issue ranging from, not being able to sit at the bar, not being seated due to lack of servers. Last night we were told,"Tonight is the first night we no longer take walk-ins". So we can no longer at the spur of the moment go for a bite and a glass of wine at Matteo's. Matteo's Pizza & Bistro, Is were my wife and I planned our birthday party dinner and we couldn't be more happier. The September weather was perfect and the outdoor patio was private and really nice with that back yard feel. Our server was named Jacob and he made everything run smoothly. Water, tea, and lemonade stand were always full and available on old wine barrels. We had seating for about 30 ppl and a couple of kids. We started with two appetizers, spicy buffalo wings and fried calamari which both were a big hit. Next we had two salad's an Italian chop salad and a spinach with fig and hazel nuts. I like the combination of the sweet fig and savory hazel nuts. For the main course we had four types of pizza a plain cheese, vegetarian with fresh mozzarella and heirloom tomatoes, and their famous Stu Pizza which is one of my favorites with prosciutto and arugula. I definitely recommend this place for his neighborhood feel and classic Italian pub flair. It also has a very nice wine selection if your in the mood for a little vino. read more

Party of 4 Waited 35 minutes past our reservation time to be seated then another 10 minutes for water. Waitress was aloof and while she didn't say anything specifically rude we felt like she was annoyed by our presence. Everything smelled amazing but the food was just ok. The food is always good, but the service is hit and miss. We have walked out without ever being seated and we've walked out after waiting way too long for our drinks to arrive. Most recently we took my visiting parents there for a Sunday lunch only to find out they were no longer open on Sundays (they hadn't updated their hours on yelp and their sign still showed hours of operation on Sunday).... We really like the food and since we live nearby, we want this place to be one of our go-to restaurants. I just wish the service was as consistent as the food. read more

Something is happening at Matteo's. Their food is really really good! I've gone there twice recently to double check. Tonight it was prime rib. Amazing. Quality meat, cooked well and served w broiled vegetables. To die for. So was my companions' linguine and the grilled shrimp and mango salad. And service was attentive and effective. The other night, it was the same high quality fare, including gnocchi and fresh seafood. Holy Toledo! In recent years, Matteo's food has been okay, but nothing to write home about. Disappointing lunch. Stopped by to enjoy a lunch in the garden with my dad, husband and a friend only to feel like we paid far too much for an over cooked, mediocre burger with old reheated fries. Foremost, potatoes are cheap. If you're going to charge $15 for a burger and fries, you damn well better be serving fries that have been out of the frier for 10 minutes or less. If business is slow, throw out the old fries and serve something fresh on the side! Speaking of prices, $7 for a side of sweet potato fries is also outrageous. Burgers were ordered medium rare and were overly flat well done patties. Lettuce was the really white crap end of the romaine. And the aioli sauce was glopped on and tasted no different than cheap mayo. If you're looking for a good burger, go to Skip's, Duke's or even McDonald's. The burger here was gross. I like to give restaurants second chances, but we've been going to Matteo's for years and the service and food have really declined since it opened. read more

My sister has been trying to convince me to come here for quite some time, but I kept turning her down because of the negative Yelp reviews. My mistake! I finally agreed to go last week and I can't understand how they have so few stars. I LOVED it. My sister ordered one of the pizzas, Dad got fettuccine, and I opted for the special, a pork steak. Best pork I have ever ordered! Although the serving was a little smaller than I expected for a restaurant (about the size of my palm), it was actually the perfect amount and was completely satiating. I had a bite of my Dad's fettuccine and it was one of the best I've ever tasted. Very rich and creamy. I will order that next time. My sister's pizza, The Stu, was so flavorful! The crust was the perfect combination of crispy and chewy. Even the starter salad that I ordered was wonderful; a mix of spring lettuces and delicious pickled red onions. The service was great. We were seated immediately and our server was attentive. My only negative was her description of the pork steak special. When I asked about it she said it was similar to a chicken fried steak. Although that kind of threw me off, I ordered it anyway just because I was in the mood for pork. Well I'm glad I did, because it was nothing like chicken fried steak. Although it was fried, it was a filet and there was no coating. It was cooked to order and perfectly medium. So juicy and tender. Sometimes you have to give negatively reviewed places a chance and judge for yourself. In this case, I wish I had given in to my sister's recommendation long ago. Three of us enjoyed a great dinner Saturday night 9/28/19 at Matteo's. We ordered several dishes and shared between us and all of us agreed it was fabulous. First time and great experience. We arrived about 6:00pm and it was already busy; by 7:00 it seemed there wasn't an open table. Several nearby us were set and "reserved" but equally balanced with what was available and we were seated promptly and felt welcome. Pretty place with attention to detail but not stuffy; very relaxed. Next time if we aren't going to be early birds, we'll know to make a reservation but we got there early enough Saturday to get seated right away. The regular menu seemed kind of limiting and that they weren't sure what they wanted to be - front of menu was appetizers and salads, back had some entrees and pizzas. The gourmet signature pizzas seemed most prominent, but also 4-5 regular entrees with a steak dish, salmon, half chicken, 2 pasta dishes. Among entrees were several burgers-- it really didn't seem to flow as an "entree" and didn't seem appetizing because of how the menu was laid out. I'm not a burger fan, so when sitting in a white-table-cloth-wine-bistro-style-Italian themed restaurant, it kind of turns me off. However, the "additions" menu was separate and seasonal and very appealing. I think it started with a soup du jour, Caprese salad, special pizza of the evening and salmon tacos. I wanted to order the special grilled peach & proscuitto pizza on the additions but no one else agreed with that choice, so we selected signature pizza from the standard menu. The pizza is excellent (we shared 2: The Stu and a Margarita). I am picky when it comes to pizza as I'm from New York and was spoiled with some of the best NY Pizza growing up and, honestly, Matteo's pizza was very East Coast style thin to medium crust and served signature style - like individual style - approx. 8" diameter, and plenty for 2-3 people to sample and share along with other appetizers and salads. Freshest Caprese salad I've ever had - heirloom tomatoes (red and yellow) were off the charts spectacular liked they picked from a garden just an hour before, and just the right balance of burrata cheese, chopped fresh basil and balsamic. My husband had a house salad and it was leafy and fresh and he loved it, and the 3 of us all had a couple of tomatoes with toppings from the Caprese. Everything was so fresh and tasty. We also tried the salmon tacos as my friend had her eye on this menu addition, and so the 3 of us split the 3 tacos among us - they were small like street tacos and perfect crunch and flavor of the salmon with shredded cabbage and I believe a green salsa and cojita cheese crumbles. Sharing 2 pizzas, 3 tacos plus caprese & green salad, we ended up full quickly and taking home what we couldn't eat which amounted to a whole pizza (half of each-- Stu & Margarita). They have quaint outside seating in a garden atmosphere, but we ate inside as it was a sudden pouring rain storm. The atmosphere was perfect, great background music, low lighting, white linens, center candle on each table. There was a large bar and also a retail wine shop; the atmosphere was open but somehow sectioned off comfortably and laid out well with high top tables in bar, dining tables regular height separate from bar, outside seating, and the retail wine room near the front entrance. Bistro is the right descriptor. Great place for friends get together or larger family groups (we saw several parties of 4-6 nearby) and also great atmosphere for a romantic night for 2. Not really an atmosphere for kids, in my opinion. Not in the evening anyway, not sure what day time is like. A very adult atmosphere and food; despite being "pizza", it's more fine dining but without the price! Sorry to be a downer but please don't bring your children on a Saturday night! Fortunately, no one did. Wine was great - Frank Family Pinot Noir for $50?! The wine by bottle prices were barely above retail, which surprised us. Great selection too. The owner came over to open and serve us the 2 bottles of wine we selected for our table and told us about the restaurant as first timers. Our server was Margaret and she was excellent and who would have known she was brand new to table service. Good training I suppose, more credit to the owner/manager and team. Great atmosphere, service was timely - not rushed, not waiting. Overall top experience. The only drawback was walking through a wait station area adjacent to the bar to reach the restrooms. I don't think there was a sign for restrooms, at least I didn't see one and had to ask-- and when walking that direction thought I was in a "back of the house" area for a second because of the service items, soda fountain and bright lights. No big deal I just passed through unobstructed; the bathrooms were large and clean which says something great about an establishment, I think. All good, we will be back. read more
