Went there for my birthday in September. Pizza was bit burned on the bottom. We were seated outside. It looked a bit neglected. Sad. I had been there several months prior and it looked better. Service was ok, I guess. Waitress was at least congenial, but there must have been an ice shortage. No ice in the water carafes even though it was a warm day. Had to keep asking for both constantly. Must have been an off day. Maybe I'll try them again next year. read more

Three of us enjoyed a great dinner Saturday night 9/28/19 at Matteo's. We ordered several dishes and shared between us and all of us agreed it was fabulous. First time and great experience. We arrived about 6:00pm and it was already busy; by 7:00 it seemed there wasn't an open table. Several nearby us were set and "reserved" but equally balanced with what was available and we were seated promptly and felt welcome. Pretty place with attention to detail but not stuffy; very relaxed. Next time if we aren't going to be early birds, we'll know to make a reservation but we got there early enough Saturday to get seated right away. The regular menu seemed kind of limiting and that they weren't sure what they wanted to be - front of menu was appetizers and salads, back had some entrees and pizzas. The gourmet signature pizzas seemed most prominent, but also 4-5 regular entrees with a steak dish, salmon, half chicken, 2 pasta dishes. Among entrees were several burgers-- it really didn't seem to flow as an "entree" and didn't seem appetizing because of how the menu was laid out. I'm not a burger fan, so when sitting in a white-table-cloth-wine-bistro-style-Italian themed restaurant, it kind of turns me off. However, the "additions" menu was separate and seasonal and very appealing. I think it started with a soup du jour, Caprese salad, special pizza of the evening and salmon tacos. I wanted to order the special grilled peach & proscuitto pizza on the additions but no one else agreed with that choice, so we selected signature pizza from the standard menu. The pizza is excellent (we shared 2: The Stu and a Margarita). I am picky when it comes to pizza as I'm from New York and was spoiled with some of the best NY Pizza growing up and, honestly, Matteo's pizza was very East Coast style thin to medium crust and served signature style - like individual style - approx. 8" diameter, and plenty for 2-3 people to sample and share along with other appetizers and salads. Freshest Caprese salad I've ever had - heirloom tomatoes (red and yellow) were off the charts spectacular liked they picked from a garden just an hour before, and just the right balance of burrata cheese, chopped fresh basil and balsamic. My husband had a house salad and it was leafy and fresh and he loved it, and the 3 of us all had a couple of tomatoes with toppings from the Caprese. Everything was so fresh and tasty. We also tried the salmon tacos as my friend had her eye on this menu addition, and so the 3 of us split the 3 tacos among us - they were small like street tacos and perfect crunch and flavor of the salmon with shredded cabbage and I believe a green salsa and cojita cheese crumbles. Sharing 2 pizzas, 3 tacos plus caprese & green salad, we ended up full quickly and taking home what we couldn't eat which amounted to a whole pizza (half of each-- Stu & Margarita). They have quaint outside seating in a garden atmosphere, but we ate inside as it was a sudden pouring rain storm. The atmosphere was perfect, great background music, low lighting, white linens, center candle on each table. There was a large bar and also a retail wine shop; the atmosphere was open but somehow sectioned off comfortably and laid out well with high top tables in bar, dining tables regular height separate from bar, outside seating, and the retail wine room near the front entrance. Bistro is the right descriptor. Great place for friends get together or larger family groups (we saw several parties of 4-6 nearby) and also great atmosphere for a romantic night for 2. Not really an atmosphere for kids, in my opinion. Not in the evening anyway, not sure what day time is like. A very adult atmosphere and food; despite being "pizza", it's more fine dining but without the price! Sorry to be a downer but please don't bring your children on a Saturday night! Fortunately, no one did. Wine was great - Frank Family Pinot Noir for $50?! The wine by bottle prices were barely above retail, which surprised us. Great selection too. The owner came over to open and serve us the 2 bottles of wine we selected for our table and told us about the restaurant as first timers. Our server was Margaret and she was excellent and who would have known she was brand new to table service. Good training I suppose, more credit to the owner/manager and team. Great atmosphere, service was timely - not rushed, not waiting. Overall top experience. The only drawback was walking through a wait station area adjacent to the bar to reach the restrooms. I don't think there was a sign for restrooms, at least I didn't see one and had to ask-- and when walking that direction thought I was in a "back of the house" area for a second because of the service items, soda fountain and bright lights. No big deal I just passed through unobstructed; the bathrooms were large and clean which says something great about an establishment, I think. All good, we will be back. read more

We just attended an outdoor wine dinner at Matteo's and it was fantastic. It was a Rombauer featured wine dinner and the chef designed a series of courses that were absolutely delicious. We enjoyed the vegan offering and the non-vegan menu. We would recommend ordering both with your companion so you can share and enjoy both. Of particular note was the Blistered Sweet Corn Soup in demitasse with Harissa Chili Oil (house made). Unbelievable! We highly recommend Matteo's for any meal besides the wine dinners. read more

Took the fam to Matteo's on a Friday night and was very surprised by the prices. The pizza, while being a little greasy, was pretty good. I had the Matteo pizza which had a lot of meats on it. At $21, I felt it was a bit pricey. The glass of wine was pretty good but I should have paid more attention to the price - $16.50. In my opinion, that is a lot of money for a by-the-glass option that is not something special. Keep in mind they also have wines by-the-glass for $20. The worst value for the money was the caprese salad which was $16. It tasted just okay and was on the smaller portion size which made the price more egregious. I will say that the outdoor seating area is very cool and quite magical. They have a very unique water fountain and it is feels like sitting in a European garden. If I ever go back (which is probably doubtful), I would try to sit in this area. read more

New Years Eve dinner, 3 guests, reservation. Young girl was sitting customers,about 11 or 12 years old. She worked the entire time that we were there dining. The restaurant was half full. All of the menus we were given were their regular menu, thin paper that was fairly wrinkled and over used. We had to ask for a server,refills of water, etc. - service was minimal at least. Food was fine. There was a menu of "specials" that were not very special. None of the servers wished us a Happy New Year, there were no special touches, decor, or comments about the evening. I do not advise the restaurant for a celebration. We all ate fairly light, the bill was $120.00. Sad to see this happening in this neighborhood business which we would like to support. read more

My in-laws were coming from out of town for birthday and holiday dinner. I called to make reservations for seven they said no problem. When we arrived we had to wait 10 minutes for a table, then they proceeded to seat us outside when it was December and freezing with no heater that was prepared. We had two elderly people with us and asked to be sat inside and when the reservation was made it was never told the seating would be outside. No attempt by manager to rectify the situation. I felt bad for the hostess, it was not her fault but had to take the heat. We left and ate somewhere else. I will not be returning anytime soon. read more

Went on a weekday for lunch with a client. The service was non existent for 10 mins, then she was on it, but I had to keep flagging her down to refill my iced tea. We order the prosciutto pizza and the chicken pesto panini. I took one bite of the sandwich and everything fell out the back end. I had to keep reassembling the sandwich. What a difference six years makes. Stopped by for an early dinner. Skipped the happy hour options and ordered off the menu. To begin with we had very good service. Hubby and I shared the spinach salad and it was very good. I loved the marinated onions, Hubby commented on how fresh the spinach was. We shared a half Matteo and half Stu pizza. Again quality ingredients and loved the homemade pizza crust. The Napa cabs by the glass were pricey but overall we had a very enjoyable experience. read more

Yes, the food was amazing, but TOTALLY ruined by this experience with the owner: Me, a single lady, who happens to be white, quetly enjoying a simple dinner of salad and mac-n-cheese (about $14 before tax/tip) on a Tuesday night. The owner, speaking to a man and a woman at the next table over who are apparently regular customers: "Yeah, next Tuesday we will be upgrading the menu, eliminating some of the less expensive items. We get alot of single women in here, usually single white ladies. They order like a salad and soup, and take up a servers time. It just kills us financially. I don't mean to hurt anybodies feelings, but, we want to attract a different type of clientelle." Hey, Matteos Owner, props for being able to upgrade your menu. Props for serving great food. But PASSIVE-AGGRESSIVELY INSULTING ME WHILE I AM QUIETLY ENJOYING MY DINNER? I understand the resturaunt business has razor-thin margins. But then why did your hostess seat me at a table? If you really don't want single women to sit at a table, just tell us the table is reserved and offer a take-out menu. Tell us the kitchen is closed. We found a fall-back place where the entire family can get something we want - and that is Matteos. Whenever we don't feel like arguing about where to go, we go there. Pizza and burger for the kid? Check. Inventive specials for Mom? Check. Meat for Dad? Check. It has been a long week and I needed something warm and not cooked by me, so we braved the pouring rain and headed to Matteos. We were seated immediately in what I call their "wine room" a back room where cases of wine are stored. The specials were all, disappointingly, fish (I don't eat seafood) with the exception of one item: Tequila Pork tenderloin rolled in anchiote and a "heck of a lot of seasonal vegetables" with a jalapeno aioli. This intrigued me. I like pork. I like jalapeno. I like lots and lots of vegetables. I hate aioli. So, when the waiter came, I asked him about the dish. I wanted to know how the jalapeno aioli fit into the dish and what the vegetables were. And, he had absolutely nothing to say, he hadn't seen it or tasted it. He said he'd go back and check and tell me when he returned. Okay, that is a mistake right there Mr. Matteo. I know you are using college kids as servers and they probably don't really care much about food, but if you are calling a dish "heck of a lot of seasonable vegetables" that is an attractive name that will draw questions - your server should at least know what they are. If you don't want questions, say "with asparagus, Brussels sprouts and broccoli," it really doesn't use much more printer ink. When he came back with our excellent Stone Ale's, I'd already decided I didn't care about the answer and was going to order the roasted free-range organic chicken with Garlic-Chablis-sage sauce, broccoli rabe and creamy parmesan polenta. Whatever the veggies were, they had nothing on my desire for polenta this night. Is there anything better on a cold, rainy night then warm creamy polenta? No, there isn't. The chicken was cooked perfectly, and it was very flavorful. The seasonings were light and the sauce was delicate. The broccoli rabe was also very good, just the right amount of bitter to match the creamy polenta and chicken. I believe they cook the chicken under a brick or something as it's nice and flattened when it comes out, and very juicy. There is plenty and I took home enough for another meal. My husband chose the pork chop, which is his staple at this restaurant. It was cooked beautifully. Not only that, but he got a whole mess of veggies, a heck of a lot of veggies. I suspect that he got the same veggies on the special dish. My son got the burger, which he always enjoys. He waffles between burger and pizza and is always happy. Aside from the server not knowing what was on the menu, the service was attentive without being intrusive. We never had to wait for anything and we were never bugged. We have probably eaten at Matteos 6 or 7 times now, once for a large family party.. I have had my chicken under-cooked once, and the "Bavette" steak is consistently tough. (What the heck is bavette anyway?) But, they have shown great improvement since they opened and with just a little more training, a different steak dish, and attention to details,I think they could be one of the best places in the area for families and casual, excellent bistro meals. Whoever is leaving less then 5 stars keep your suit and tie on and f**k off, just being honest. Had dinner tonight. Ordered from special menu, carnitas tacos. Meat tasted like it was prepped for bbq pulled pork sandwiches. No carnitas seasoning. Food was heated in micro; not freshly prepared. Three tacos, generous portion, but nothing special at all. Came with only a small side of guac; no salsa; no garnish etc. Also purchased crab cakes-are you kidding me right now? 4 that were the size of silver dollars. Looked like they were from frozen food section. Flavor was fair. Cost was ridiculous for portion. Pineapple/pom margaritas were good. Stop spending time and money trying to be a wine shop and focus on food or your days are numbered. Won't return. read more

Matteo's stands out b/c it's got solid-quality fresh bistro food and a decent ambiance in an area with less competition than midtown. The owners have something lovely here... While they have a lot of ambition, don't EVER overlook the food and table service. Sure there's this wine shop concept going on... and a bit of a sports bar feel... but I like my table and comfortable chair. Lots of natural light and large floral arrangements. It's a neighborhood bistro for casual special occasions -- and it works for me. I liked seeing the dad and his sons / nephews at the counter. I'm not typically a pizza-person but the brunch menu grabbed my attention. I hadn't been that indecisive in years! The seasonal ingredients were a real draw. Service was friendly and attentive without hoving. When the paced slowed, chef was FOH -- good touch! You get #browniepts from us. :) My portions was larger than I imagined, but huge great since I opted for a vegetarian dish. Gypsy peppers and quinoa were delicious; I wasn't hungry later either: yay whole grains! Nice combination of texture and spices for flavor and mild heat -- but not hot like Mex or Thai... after all it's been hot enough this week: 35* C. BTW I didn't have any problems dining here as a single female. What does Matteo's want to be when it grows up? A restaurant with comfortable booths, charming decorations and festive lights? A sports bar with tall, uncomfortable tables and two TVs? A wine shop? Right now, it's trying to be all three, and it's not working that well. We went for dinner and, unfortunately, were shown to the sports bar. It was the most unpleasant seating I can recall in quite some time. That aside, the food and service were pretty good, but with several caveats: 1) We spent more than $80 for dinner in a restaurant serving Italian food and were charged $1.95 for bread. Have you ever heard of such a thing? I should add the baguette was excellent and was finished off in a pizza oven - a nice touch. . 2) While the salad portions were huge--not all bad---my spinach salad was drowning in dressing. And the only pepper came from the small shaker on our table. 3) Our pasta dishes, bucatini bolognese and fettucine with mussels, were tasty, but when we asked for parmigiano cheese we received a shaker used for pizzas. So what does this place want to be? If it strives for refinement as a restaurant, there is certainly potential and we would consider going back. Otherwise, no. read more

I am really hoping this restaurant improves and succeeds because I have been waiting for a neighborhood restaurant with a lively vibe and good food. This place has potential but is not living up to it at all. Service was very slow and that's problematic when you have two toddlers in tow. I can tell they are trying to be family friendly (child menus, crayons & coloring papers) which I truly appreciate, but it took FOREVER for them to seat us. They had pointed out where they would be seating us - the alcove with the round table in the front - but the front-of-house staff was so clueless that they failed to notice when the table was ready! A lot of chit-chatting and aimless wandering by the hostesses while we needlessly waited. I finally had to ask them if the table was ready which prompted them to seat us. Once we were seated, it took a long time for our waiter to introduce himself and the menus. Then he disappeared for a good 15 minutes. We had to flag him down to order. We ordered an assortment of food: pizza, salad, pasta, rotisserie chicken, and burgers. We waited a good 45 minutes before the food arrived, as our children grew antsier and antsier. The pizza was excellent (nice crispy thin crust) and reasonably priced given the size of the portion. The mixed greens salad was also good - not a wow but solid. The pasta was a major disappointment - it was supposed to be a farfalle with smoked chicken and andouille sausage, roasted peppers, and caramelized onions. I counted only two bites of chicken in the whole dish and it was a soupy, watery mess. The sausage overpowered the whole dish and the "sauce" was really just fiery water. The children's burgers very large and well-seasoned and the fries were crispy so I ended up eating more of my daughter's food than my pasta dish. Again, another long wait for the server to clear our table after we had eaten and then give us the bill. By then, I had to take the children outside for a little run around, it was just too long of a wait. We'll try this restaurant again but I hope by then they have the opening month kinks worked out or have hired a better restaurant manager. We'll probably just stick to the pizza, unless we hear the other food has improved. read more

6/2/2010 Update: I think they've got the service down. An increase to 4 stars is appropriate. We've been there three times now, and each time the food has been first rate. Excellent pizzas, reasonable prices, imaginative options. Where they're still having pretty serious problems is in their service. We went there Saturday and met my in-laws who had already been seated. We came early, around 6:30, because they don't take reservations for less than 6, and we had 5. After joining them, we waited for 15-20 minutes for someone to greet us and take our drink orders. All the while the hostess (?) kept casting looks at us that one of our diners interpreted as dirty looks. I didn't see any, but that was her interpretation. When we finally requested a server, the guy took our orders as if he were doing us a favor, and although friendly, was curt and uneven. He hit all the appropriate marks but at inappropriate times, not really listening to us, and all the while acting very rushed and somewhat inconvenienced. One pizza was late, and we didn't get much in the way of an explanation except they were getting ready for a party. The food was fantastic as before, but the service left a bad taste. It's not the most expensive place in town, but the service was on par with the deli counter at Raley's. Actually, that service is pretty good in comparison, because I don't feel like I'm in the way of the counter person's ability to serve other customers.. I hope they get it worked out soon, because I want an excuse to eat there on a semi-regular basis. read more

Atmosphere is lethargic. Added chicken to a salad for $3 and it was dry like it had been made the night before. Ordered pizza with extra sauce and it would've been pretty good with that extra sauce, but it actually arrived with very little. No water refills. No tip. Pizza and salad was $29.70. They win. Today anyway. It's the little details that kill a restaurant. There are restaurant GMs out there thinking of ways to kick your a** 24/7. Better keep up. read more

Well, there are some very mixed reviews here, but I'm chiming in with our experience just this past Friday night. It was our first time here and we loved it. First of all, there is always a corkage fee when you bring your own wine, completely expected. $15.00 is a bit higher than some restaurants, but still acceptable. Secondly, we had a half hour wait, so we went down the way to Luna Lounge for a cocktail. I don't think a half hour wait signals a bad restaurant. Then, EXCELLENT service from Megan, could not have asked for more. She was sweet, friendly and informative. Wanted to make sure we enjoyed our first visit here. Food was absolutely fantastic. My BF ordered the spinach salad and I ordered the warm brussels sprouts salad. Both were excellent, but the brussels sprouts were to die for, we are still talking about it, mostly trying to figure out how to make it at home! They had mussels on the menu and I asked if that could be made into a pasta dish, absolutely no problem, what kind of pasta do you prefer. Perfect execution, mussels sweet tender and delicious, pasta al dente with a lovely garlicky butter sauce and more wonderful garlic bread than you can shake a stick at. My BF ordered the spicy pork ragu pasta and it was also delicious with lots of meat, a flavorful sauce and plump mushrooms. And there was certainly NO problem with portions. We both took a substantial amount home mixed them together and had them with seared scallops the next evening. My BF is a big guy with a big appetite and he could not come near finishing his dinner. Excited about this local place, can't wait to try the pizza. And definitely going back for the brussels sprouts! read more

After reading a glowing review in Sactown magazine I thought it's a must to check this place out, not to mention that they also own the Supper Club. Very disappointing, below average service and food. My boyfriend's farfalle pasta more resembled a soup after couple bites, and my pizza left much to be desired. The mark up on the red wine was unacceptable. Will not be going back. The wait staff and the hostess were friendly and inviting. You will not be dissapointed with this gem standing out in Carmichael suburbia. The food, designed and implemented by the experienced culinary masters of the Supper Club (Matt and Yvette Woolston), everything is outstanding. Granted, it took a year for the menu to get dialed in, but now it is amazing. With one of the best burgers in town, outstanding pizza and a stand out appetizer list, the Woolston's have managed to blend the gourmet characteristics of the Supper Club with the traditional Bistro concept. However, the most impressive thing about this location is the wine list. The complete wine shop inventory, connected to the Bistro and probably the most extensive boutique one in Sacramento, is fully available on the wine list. Best of all, the markup is only 15 dollars over the shop, less then many corkage fees in town. If you are in Carmichael, you are lucky, if not, Matteo's is worth the drive. read more

Seriously. I had the BEST, most fresh and delicious dinner here. I'm sad it had to end, as a matter of fact. Our server was friendly and attentive, and the dinning room is sunny and welcoming. It is so refreshing to have a restaurant like this come out to the suburbs. Completely unpretentious. First, I split the sea scallop ceviche with my mom. It was served in a martini glass and perfectly spicy with lots of cilantro and good for two people. My BF and dad got the special split pea soup as an appetizer, and from what I understand, it was very special. As an entree, I got the arugula salad with roasted beets, goat cheese, oranges, pistachios, and champagne vinaigrette. I added ahi for $6. The combination of ingredients worked beautifully, and like the ceviche, it tasted remarkably fresh. Perfect choices for a light, summery dinner. And a party for my mouth. I had to refrain from licking the plate. This is exactly what I would expect from the Supper Club - I attended a wine tasting event at their Del Paso Blvd. location years ago; the menu was creative, and they seem to take special care in preparation. I will run back to Matteo's every time that I'm in town and order off the seasonal menu. It's a wonderful establishment and such a nice addition to the neighborhood. read more

I live REALLY close to this place and believe me, I really want to like it. It would be so easy - drive 2 minutes and be at a great restaurant. But no, just mediocre and uninspiring. I have been here for lunch about 3-4 times now - each time hoping for a better experience. It was not crowded for lunch (as usual) and we were immediately seated. Waited around for about 5 minutes before the waitress took our drink order - which, by this time, we were ready to order anyway. I got the Nicoise Salad with Seared Ahi Tuna ($15) which came with 3 thinly sliced pieces of tuna along with wax beans (which I thought was interesting) and the standard lettuce, etc. I also received two sauces - a pesto and the citrus vinaigrette which I asked for on the side. Tasted OK, but I didn't really know what to do with the pesto but mostly just lettuce leaves. Wife ordered the Mushroom BLT which I thought was totally interesting. It was a mushroom marinated and smoked similar to a piece of bacon - great idea and interesting but just poorly executed. It was a bit lumpy and just off center from the sandwich. Flavor was OK but kinda lukewarm by the time I got a taste. I wanted to like it, believe me! She also ordered the mushroom soup which was excellent and chock full of mushrooms. Have been here twice now. First time, came with a large group of 5 adults and 3 kids. Staff was helpful and food came out in a reasonable amount of time. Kids enjoyed the pizza. I had the grilled meatloaf special. Wow, didn't realize meatloaf could be so awesome! Not to say meatloaf is normally terrible (I am an occasional fan), but Matteo's has created a different level for it. It is grilled, so you get lovely grill marks and that almost-crunchy texture on the outside. It was served over top a sort of mushroom puree that complemented the meat perfectly. Also came with mashed potatoes and green beans. Mashed potatoes were good, but I prefer them more on the creamy side. These were more toward the fluffy realm. Green beans were standard faire. Girlfriend had the mahi-mahi over risotto. Also tasty! Don't remember what the risotto was called, but it had a citrus flavoring to it that went great with the mahi-mahi. Second visit - we split a "Californian" pizza. Good stuff. Pizzas aren't gigantic, but certainly enough for two people. Despite both of us being quite hungry, we still had a piece leftover. Pizza was topped with chicken, baby artichoke hearts, sundried tomatoes, goat cheese, and garlic cream. Hard to mess that up, I know. Crust is about medium thickness and more on the chewy side, which I favor. If you're looking for value, the pizzas are probably the best option. Average around $12 and can easily feed two. I'm happy there is a local option that isn't a chain! Surprised to see the mixed reviews here. Appears as though service was lacking when they first opened. My wife really wanted to go to Matteo's so we decided to go there for dinner. Far less than spectacular or even good food. The service was good, but I was served a special from there menu that I could not believe. You would think that it would be hard to screw up a grilled cheese. It is a grilled cheese for christ's sake. Some cheese in some buttered bread, ok add some yummy sounding stuff, and wow the simplest gourmet stuff you could ask for.... right? Sadly, NO. First of all they murdered the concept. No butter on the bread and maybe some olive oil with the bread on a grill to crisp... Well, OK not so bad right? Concept saved? Maybe, but it got lost in the execution... Just plain wrong all the way around. The cook murdered my simple sandwich. First he burned the bread so when he turned it instead of grilling the other side he flipped the burnt side toward the inside of the sandwich. He then grilled that side again, but not the other side. He hid the ungrilled side by putting it down underneath when he plated, towards the plate. I get the sandwich. Look pretty tasty with prosciutto, mushroom, arugula, and fontina cheese. I go to pick it up despite it looking more like an average sandwich, rather than a grilled cheese, and that is when I stopped. I put down the abomination. Wiping my hands off. The ungrilled side had turned soggy from the mushroom and I smelled burnt bread. Needless to say that I sent it back. So, I sat there and ate a pile of fries until I got my sandwich. Then I was no longer that hungry so when I got the second sandwich it did not seem that great. And it was still screwed up! They forgot the arugula on the re-done sandwich and I had to steal some from my wife's salad. And add a lot of pepper to get some flavor going. This place has an amazing wine list and great wine, but the food seemed like an after thought, poorly made, and with little care or attention given to it. I will not eat here again. You probably want to drink a lot of wine before you order here so you won't mind the food. read more

Love, Love this place! We come here a couple of times a month as we live around the corner. We have yet to be disappointed. Love the Argula Salad!!! We ordered a pizza from a daily special menu. It was the Ranchero Pizza....to die for! We went back a few months after and asked if they could make it for us.....they said yes! What service. Love the awesome wine selection and creative food. My family has been dining here for about 2 years and we absolutely love it. The atmosphere is inviting and the outdoor patio is a gorgeous way to spend your evening in the summer months. The food is always great, and we look forward to the weekly specials. We had a lovely waitress last week, I unfortunately have forgotten her name, however I believe she deserved a few nice words. She had just returned from a long vacation and expressed to us how much she missed the food while she was gone. She was super attentive and very, very sweet. So thank you... Matteo's Pizza & Bistro - The entrance - Pizza Near Me - Carmichael, California

We continued our ongoing quest of experiencing new places to dine. I was craving something Italian, so after spending some time looking at possibilities online this week found us at Matteo's Pizza & Bistro in Carmichael. The décor was comfortable and warm in minimalist way with lots of mixed woods. The bar area with several flat screen TV's and high top tables occupy about a third of the establishment. With several of the servers in football jerseys, it has a sports bar feeling. It was encouraging to see the place was very busy, especially on a Sunday night. The menu is interesting yet uncomplicated and reasonably priced. It should be noted that the on line menu was not up to date. I understand that the owners pride themselves on their fine wines. However, the wine list is very intimidating in size and price, especially in comparison to the food menu. We had no trouble making our selections. We ordered parmesan garlic bread, a spinach salad, fettuccini alfredo, and short ribs. The service was prompt and attentive in a friendly manner, just what is expected. The food presentation was pleasing with nice sized portions. Of course we shared tastes of everything. We both agreed that the food was delicious with wonderful flavors, except for the bread, which did not taste much of either parmesan or garlic. Over all it was a wonderful experience. Matteo's has been added to our list of restaurants which we want to experience again. read more
