I went to Mattress Star with my son who was buying a mattress set for his first apartment after college. He was paying for it himself and didn't have a lot to spend. Lucy helped him find a good mattress in his price range, and she included the box springs, the frame, a mattress protector, and delivery included in the price of the mattress. A very good deal! This is a great store. I recently moved into a new house and had to buy a bed, which I had never done before. The whole experience is sort of like buying a car - you want to research what you want ahead of time before you get to the showroom so you're not having to figure that out while listening to a sales guy who's trying to squeeze more money out of you. So going into this, all I knew was that I wanted a Queen bed or bigger and that I didn't want to pay more than $1,000 for it. I Yelped around, found a few stores that looked like good candidates in the same area of LA, and then I visited all of them. Mattress Star happened to be the first store that my girlfriend and I went to, and it wound up being the best one (by far). Carlos immediately greeted us and talked with us about what we were looking for. He was friendly and patient and quite knowledgeable throughout the entire ordeal. Eventually, we settled on a bed, he offered us a deal on it, and we told him we needed to look at a couple more places to make sure. He was very understanding and wasn't too pushy about us leaving and coming back, even though I'm sure he thought he may lose a sale. So we visited two other nearby stores. One of them (a large chain), had only one employee walking around and he must've had better things to do (such as nothing at all), because he avoided talking to us, even though there was only one other couple in the store. We left after 5 minutes of browsing their overpriced merchandise. The other store was fine. Also overpriced, and they weren't as accessible as Carlos was. So we just sort of felt it in our guts to go back to Mattress Star. Carlos welcomed us back with no problem, we bought the bed, and it was just delivered to our house by another friendly guy named Joe, who apparently doesn't mind carrying heavy beds up and down stairs all day by himself. But our bed is a California King, so I would've felt like a jerk if I didn't help him carry it into our place. Carlos let us pay a tiny part of the bed's price in the showroom and then we paid Joe the delivery guy the rest after he plopped the bed down in our bedroom and it was all smooth and cool and nice. They're nice people who run a respectable business and they give killer deals on their quality merchandise. Just be as nice to them as they are to you. Maybe just go ahead and be nice to everybody in your life and see where it gets you. Anyway, I went to Mattress Star because of Yelp, I had a great experience, and now I'm writing a positive Yelp review so hopefully more people will have as great of a time as we did. Buying a bed can be a real pain in the butt, but it doesn't have to be, and Mattress Star proved that to me. read more

The sales person was very helpful, the delivery was quick (quicker if we wanted it same day). The sheer quantity of mattress stores in Glendale was shocking to me. I found it somewhat overwhelming, and I spent way too long making up my mind. But in the end, I bought one here, and I was very happy with the mattress and the experience. Here's why I think it deserved 5 stars: - Price negotiation. Carlos will negotiate with you. I like the bargaining process, and mattress sales are very competitve, so it's a perfect opportunity for you to get a good deal, which I did. - Excellent selection including alternative brands. As far as I can tell, between this store and the sister store on the same block, they've got all the brands you'd find at almost any other store -- Sealy, Serta, Tempurpedic, etc. -- but they've also got some quality alternative brands such as the Therapedic brand that I purchased. - Good delivery. Free delivery is pretty standard for all mattress stores these days. But the guys who delivered my mattress were on time, fast, professional and friendly. The delivery window was 2 hours instead of, say, 4 or more, and they arrived during the first hour. This is a sharp contrast with the experience a friend had recently with a different mattress store, which involved having to reschedule his mattress delivery altogether after the delivery team failed to put it on to their truck. - Fast turnaround. I bought my mattress on a Sunday afternoon, and it was delivered Monday afternoon. This was important to me, because I had been sleeping on air mattresses and couches for too long, and was quite impatient to get my mattress ASAP. Getting my mattress delivered in 24 hours was not something I recall being offered anywhere else I shopped. For the sake of my own credibilty, I'll mention that Carlos asked me to write a review. But I would have volunteered this review, anyway, and I didn't receive anything in return. I'll also mention that because the mattress sales environment is so competitive -- there have to be at least 6 places to buy a mattress just on Central Ave in Glendale, alone -- Carlos is very eager for your business. I can imagine that some people may be put off by this. But it's a good opportunity to bargain to get yourself a deal. If you're comfortable bargaining, this is really a good place to start -- and if I were going mattress shopping with a friend, this is where I would start. read more

Let me start by saying I didn't realize what a harrowing experience buying a bed would be for me, but the Mattress Star staff and Lucy the owner were very accommodating with me through the entire process. I was having health problems, and my chiropractor strongly advised I buy a new bed, since mine was 8 years old. He also said to get one as firm as possible (which I later learned was bad advice for me). Visit 1 Danny (really friendly, personable guy) helped me out and spent a lot of time talking to me about all the options and had me lay on all sorts of beds. After about an hour and a half I decided to go with a bamboo brand memory foam mattress with an adjustable frame. But after sleeping on it for just one night, I found out it was too firm for me, and I woke up sore and had to ask for an exchange. Visit 2 Rather than exchange it, they suggested I try putting a soft memory foam topper on it to make it softer. So I borrowed the floor sample of a memory foam topper and took that home. It was softer, but it heated up and I ended up sweating all night, so that didn't work and took it back. Visit 3 They then agreed to exchange it for a more expensive, softer memory foam mattress with cooling gel for the difference in price. While it was softer, I then learned I was allergic to the chemicals it was made from, and woke up with headaches and breathing problems. Visit 4 So I went back to them and I decided to move away from memory foam and ask them to exchange it again for a much more expensive talalay latex bed (for the difference in price) , since latex is a natural material. The latex however turned out to be too firm again and after a while started to give me breathing problems. What I hadn't realized is that talalay latex is mixed with other chemicals (as opposed to dunlop latex, which is 100% natural, but more expensive and not as soft from what I hear). I had no idea that I was so sensitive to these chemicals! So I called back Lucy (owner) and after talking for a long time, she agreed to exchange it for a coil spring pillow top mattress (the softest mattress they had in the store). I asked if I could take the floor model because it had already been broken in (so it would be softer) and any new-mattress-outgassing would have already occurred. They're going to deliver that bed to me sometime this week - hopefully that bed will do the trick! Even though I haven't gotten my new bed yet, I wanted to write a review to say that Danny, John and Lucy took a lot of time with me to make sure they did everything they could to accommodate me. I don't think any of the big chain stores would have even considered exchanging the bed for me more than once. read more

This place is really great. It is a family owned, and they have two separate stores (I think discount mattress) a couple of doors down from each other. I preferred the selection on the Mattress Star side. They have organic latex beds and very competitive prices. There's parking right in the back too. We went in ready to only be able to afford a mattress, and left with a great mattress, free shipping, box spring, frame, bed cover and memory foam pillow. Christine was amazing. We were searching everywhere for a new bed and it was totally stressing us out. Christine completely accommodated our budget and needs, and eased all of our worries. She was very knowledgable and was able to answer my many questions without acting annoyed. Go here if you want an amazing selection at great prices, and stellar customer service. My experience at the store was great. John was great, not pushy. I ended up purchasing an Organic Cotton Pillow Top Mattress, and this was on a Saturday. They promised to deliver my mattress the following week by Wednesday between 4-6pm. The mattress was delivered as promised, however it was not the same pillow top that I purchased at the store. They delivered the same exact model, the only difference was that the pillow top was made out of polyester. One of the main reasons why I purchased the Organic Cotton top is to help with my night sweats, as it has excellent air flow and for hypoallergenic purposes. I called the store and they stated that sometimes the manufacturer will use different fabrics if they run out of what is in stock. To me, this is an example of a business selling you false hopes and dreams. I spoke to the manufacturer and he tried to convince me to purchase the floor model that was in the store...no thanks. Eventually they promised me that they would be able to order me the Organic top, but I would have to wait another week. They stated that it would be delivered on Tuesday between 6-8....no one showed up, even after I called the store to confirm delivery. At this point, it has been almost two weeks and I am stuck with a mattress and box spring taking up space in my room, and still enduring an uncomfortable sleep on my cheap IKEA memory foam mattress. The prices are great, including free delivery and set up of the bed frame. But keep in mind that there may be a bit of a hassle getting the exact mattress that you purchase at the store. UPDATE: Organic top mattress just received, all is well. Instead of a 6-8pm delivery, it was delivered at 10pm. An extra star for effort, but still late. 12/10/13. read more

These people are amazing! I came here because of the Yelp reviews. My mother and I were looking for a mattress that would help her with her allergies. Carlos, a very nice man, led us straight to what he thought was the best mattress. And, it WAS the BEST CHOICE! My mother and him negotiated and we got a very good deal here. Seriously, we got a hypoallergenic natural latex mattress and ever since then my mother has NO allergies. Yes, I am not even kidding. It's amazing. Oh, and he even gave us 2 free pillows! (also hypoallergenic :) They delivered the mattress right on time. Carlos delivered it himself. He carried out our old mattress and set up the bed frame and mattress all by himself, even when we offered to help. It was fast. I couldn't be happier! I highly recommend this place. I was moving and didn't want to get my mattresses dirty. I needed a few plastic bags so I went on yelp and got a few numbers of mattress stores and gave them a call, they all said they didn't have any and I finally called Mattress Star and Arman answered and when I told him what I wanted he said he had plenty and I can have as much as I needed for free, which was greatt because I was expecting to pay for them. So I got in my car and I was at Mattress Star in less than 10 minutes, when I walked in I was greeted right away by Adis. I told Adis that I had spoke to Arman on the phone regarding the plastic bags and he said he had the 3 bags already-ready for me, which was greatt. The bags were big and heavy duty so Adis also helped me take them to the car and put it in the trunk. I insisted on paying something for the bags, and he said please don't, their free. I do sales for a living and I hate encountering pushy sales people (mostly because I'm a closer myself) but Lucy was definitely not pushy. I got turned down for financing so she let me pick a deposit payment that I was comfortable with and told me I could just pay the delivery guys the balance when the mattress arrives next week.... I had such a great experience at Mattress Star! I was way overdue to sleep on a good bed (my lower back had been feeling miserable for a very long time every morning), but because I'm cautious about big purchases, I was doing tons of research into mattresses. Mattress Star was one of the first stores I went in to, and General Manager Henry introduced himself to me, asked me what I was looking for, and showed me several beds. I was kind of set on one, but decided I needed to do even more research. The days passed, and I decided I might want to get a "latrex hybrid" bed. I went back to the store and Henry showed me a Christelle Latex Chateau Collection bed--and I got the full set, including frame, at a really great price. It was delivered a few days later and I am sleeping better than I have in years. Henry was so nice. There was no pressure at all and I felt like I was talking to a friend. I really needed a mattress and I decided to check out Mattress Star based on the amazing reviews on YELP. I am so glad I did. I had my heart set on a Tempur Pedic but when I came into the store, Carlos, assessed what I wanted and explained to me the differences in memory foam. I actually tried and did not like the Tempur Pedic (too firm for me). He showed me all the memory foams and explained to me all my options.
