It's just not the same as the original downtown location. The food was good, but the service wasn't as friendly. Granted we came in 40mins before close on a Sunday, so that's partially our fault. But definitely felt unwelcomed for coming in so late. Silverware was disgusting, large pieces of crusty food left on forks. One server took our order, then two others came by to take order which was odd. Food was good. Been here three or four times this year for breakfast. Their food is very good and the portions are quite generous. I usually split one of their omelettes and the country potatoes are delicious. Pros: They have great food here. I love the bacon they serve! HuGE servings. Why only three stars? 1. Their chairs are SO uncomfortable. I guess they think if their guests are uncomfortable the tables will turn over quickly. 2. The service is iffy at best. The few times I've been there (usually because I have an appointment in the area) I have to flag down a server for whatever I need. Food is decent. My only real complaint would be to not go with a group and expect to pay separately... they don't split checks which is ridiculous. There was only four of us and it was too difficult for them to split the bill. We thought it was just the server the first time we went but same thing happened the second time too. They said their software wasn't capable. We then asked them to pretend we each were a table of one; they still couldn't figure that one out. General rule of thumb: condescension toward your customers is never a good look, but if you're going to try it anyway, your quality better be damn good. Unfortunately, at Matt's it was just ok. Want half and half in your coffee? Prepare for a lecture from the waitress (who has been alive for fewer years than I have been drinking coffee) about how they only offer whole milk, but it's organic and you will be surprised by how delicious it is if you give it a try. Want salami in your omelet instead of ham? They charge $5 extra because the salami is "really high quality." Never mind that the salami scramble on the menu costs less than an omelet with ham. Sometimes there are really legitimate reasons why restaurants can't fulfill a customer request, but here it's just pretension. Next time I'll be having my breakfast at a place that asks me how I'd like my coffee instead of telling me how I should. read more

I live nearby, so I have been to this location probably 6 or 7 times pre-coronavirus and I've gotten takeout 4 or 5 times in the last few months. I've worked my way through a lot of the menu, and it's all pretty solid, but GET THE PANCAKES because they are the best pancakes I have ever had. Seriously. Now, when I'm getting takeout, I get something with protein or whatever for my main meal and then I get pancakes also. One pancake is dessert that day, and the other two are breakfast the next day. The home fries are also really good, they have rosemary and caramelized onions and are super flavorful. And the bacon is nice and thick and delicious. The five-star rating is for the pancakes, home fries, and bacon. The rest of the menu gets 4 stars, because it's sometimes a little bland and needs hot sauce. The grains and greens bowl is healthy and filling, but it's worth paying extra for the mushrooms to add a little more flavor. And sometimes the omelettes can be a little oily, though they're always fluffy and tasty. This is a solid, reliable restaurant, with reasonable prices and good food. And they're pretty fast with takeout, the food is usually ready 15-20 minutes after you call. read more

This place is awesome! This was our first time here and I decided to bring my kids (teens). We went on a Sunday around 10:15an and it was a line and the lady said it was a 15-20 minute wait...which is the norm for a Sunday. I got their special which was a chorizo omelet with jalapeños and home fries (their specialty) and a tortilla. It was soooooooo good!! Omg! My daughter got their bacon and boy was that delicious! Back in the day we stood in line for an hour and a half to stick a fork in one of those fabulous, juicy, tasty pork chops and were happy to do it. Flavors were fabulous and portions were huge. I think success has meant a lot of watering down. A while back I ate in the airport terminal and had a bad experience which I attributed to the rush of dealing with airport traffic but the pork chop I had this morning was dry and tough here at the Biltmore location. My wife complained about her's as well and for the same reason. She declared her hash browns average but loved the toast and home made jelly. I thought the home fries were fabulous with lots of onion and nice crispy brown edges on the potatoes. So good. The iced tea was great and the servers kept my glass filled so that was good. Other than the dried out chop, the food was fine. My real problem is that it simply isn't as great as it used to be. The experience is kind of like the candy bar as big as your head that you used to get for $.99, but now it is a third the size for the same price. Super cute place to get brunch! We ate at the Camelback location. I saw this place featured in the Phoenix magazine and was excited to try it. It was very busy, we were told a 50 minute wait but only waited 30 so that was nice. I had the cheese omelette with breakfast potatoes. I added mushrooms - it was excellent and the portions are big. I could've eaten five plates of the breakfast potatoes. My boyfriend got the pancakes and loved them, said they were very filling. The service is great. Our coffee mugs were never empty. Everyone is your waiter/waitress so you can ask whomever to help you. They were all friendly and efficient. The only reason Matts doesn't get 5 stars for me is because the seating was so uncomfortable. We sat at a high top and the stools are hard metal squares. Maybe I have a big ass but it was not enough room and definitely not conducive to wearing a dress. Space is also cramped. If you can avoid the high top seating, I highly recommend Matts! read more

So he walks over, looks me up and down, and gives me a very judgemental look. Then as I was paying he would not look me in the eye and used a very disgruntled tone. Did my business annoy you somehow? I visited the first location a couple years ago and loved it... food was perfection every time I visited. I finally talked my hubby into trying this place... I was surprised there was hardly a wait at 9 on a Saturday. I soon realized why... this visit was so disappointing. My husband ordered his hashbrowns extra crispy, they came soggy and my waffle was cold. The waitress seemed perplexed, even when I pointed out the butter wasn't melting, even after spreading it out. The second waffle was ok, just no crispy edges like I remembered. Regardless, there was no apology, not even an acknowledgement. My bacon was too burnt to eat (and I love extra crispy bacon). Quite unremarkable. I don't understand the attraction. I've wanted to try Matt's for a long time. I had heard that they had great Belgian waffles, so perhaps my expectations were high. They were not met. The waffle was served with cold/hard butter - impossible to spread on a waffle. I was hoping for a crispy-on-the-outside - tender-on-the-inside waffle. It wasn't bad... just not what I had hoped for. Served with three strips of peppery, peppery, did I say "peppery" bacon. I am not a fan of pepper bacon, but what made it worse, was that it was limp and barely cooked. It was also served (as stated in the menu) with 2 oz. of Pure Maple Syrup. It wasn't enough syrup for the size of the waffle, so I asked for a bit more. Whoa! - That would be an extra $1.50 charge! I declined. When the waitress stopped to see how things were, I stated my disappointment at the food and the up charge. She left the table and told no one. What appeared to be a manager also stopped by the table. Again, I voiced my displeasure. She left and told the female owner who returned to my table (a plus for communication). The owner said she would take the bacon off the bill (this was also a big plus). Then, unfortunately, she proceeded to justify why they charged for more syrup; how much it costs and the long process it takes to produce a small amount of Real Maple Syrup (NOT a plus). I said that I understood the "economics" of it; I just felt that in this day and age of drink refills, etc. that it was not the greatest of customer service. She continued to argue and state how long she had been a restaurant owner, etc., etc. I was not interested. I WOULD have been interested if she had simply acknowledged my feelings and apologized for the fact that I wasn't satisfied. In the end, she told me she would take care of the bill. This might have been a plus, but she said it with such disdain, that it literally left a bad taste in my mouth. (I DID leave a tip for the server) Note to servers, managers and owners: Don't argue with the customer - you will never will the battle, or win us over. Don't try to justify your prices/service/problems, etc. - we don't want to hear the reasons why. We want you to ACKNOWLEDGE the fact that we are not happy. Simply LISTEN - then tell us you are sorry our experience wasn't better. If you can do or offer something to make it better, GREAT! But do it with a smile. After Hiking camelback we hit this place up for some chow. It was pretty dead so we got seated very quickly. They are small and very clean with great waitresses. The breakfast was reasonable for what I got, couple eggs, potatoes and bacon. The Menu is very limited but they have specials everyday. Each of us had trouble selecting our meals. The spouse chose the stack of griddlecakes. He said they were dry and the 2 oz of maple syrup meted out just wasn't enough for three plate-sized pancakes. He was keenly interested in the Tuesday biscuits and gravy special received by a patron next to us, though. I ordered the Hog and Chick -- if that's not right, I'm working from memory. I hate when people compare restaurants, but I'm gonna do it. Matt's is in many ways the opposite of Snooze - it's quieter, the menu is simpler and pretty classic. I loved the decor and fresh flowers in the tables, it wasn't too trendy or trying to hard. You seat yourself. It has a very small business feel to it. The staff was friendly and attentive. I saw a manager on the floor all morning working with them. The food was pretty good - again, this isn't Snooze, so don't expect anything out of this world crazy. Think basic omelettes and waffles. They have a rotating daily special: Monday's are huevo rancheros, another day is biscuits and gravy, ect. I think my family's disappointment came with the price - they charge a lot for little things. An extra side of syrup cost an additional $1.50. That just seemed ridiculously expensive. My dad thought it was a marketing ploy to make the pancakes a little dry purposefully so you'd have to order more syrup. Dorky MBA family humor. But seriously. A dollar and a half for a little dinky thing of syrup is too much. read more
