Never been a huge fan of Maudie's, but for some reason this location across from the wife's work does alright. Strooooong margaritas and a nice patio with not too much noise even though it overlooks 360. Better than average chips and salsa IMO. My entree of choice lately (three visits) has been the combo fajita chalupas. For under $11, you get two large mounds of beans lettuce, tomato, meat, and melted cheese smothered in guacamole. Frankly, after consuming a basket of chips between the two of us it's hard to finish both. Wife had the quesadillas blancas last visit. Corn tortillas had the circumference of a tennis ball gently folded over with jack cheese and poblano peppers inside. This dish reflected the price of $6. It was the most snack sized quesadilla I've seen to date almost resembling a mini street taco. read more

After my previous review on Maudies Milagro, today I had a wonderful time having fresh salsa and delicious Enchiladas thrilled what a difference from my last visit a few months ago. Management is really trying to improve the entrees and drinks are absolutely fantastic. So I awarded these great servers and management a five star rating. Waiter stepped up and very attentive food served hot and ready for you to dig in. As you see posted photos of the beef Enchildas were very well cooked and delicious tortillas were popping hot with butter. The Nachos supreme was a hit and perfect and as picky as I am about Nachos it was devoured in less than 15 minutes. The chef really did a good job preparing a great mexican type entree that I truly recommend. Beans and rice is the traditional Mexican style dishes Maudies is famous. As you see resturants either deny loyal customers a cuisine they seek and enjoy or change and raise the bar for pleasing a hungry crowd. I love it for my taste buds crave the old Maudie's Milagro. Hate to do this... first time here, came at 4:30pm and sat on the patio. Walked in and passed a couple cooks that were in their maudies shirts smoking. That's a big turn off for me, especially when I actually have to walk passed you if I want to enter the restaurant. It's rude. Got a table after the hostess got off her phone call. Our waitress wasn't completely there. I get it. Bad day. But she had help from a guy who saved the day. She was missing for 10-15 minutes at one point in time. We ordered the queso and guacamole but by the time they arrived my husband had already devoured the chips so we were left staring at it and couldn't find our server. I flagged down another gal who was delivering some chips to another table. I looked around and could tell all her tables weren't happy campers. Our drinks didn't get refilled, queso got cold.. and table was not busted until we got our check from the guy who saved the day. Hubby ordered the veggie burrito and I ordered the bean burrito and it was ok but we won't be back to this location unfortunately. read more

Visiting family in Austin this past weekend - they're regulars of this Maudie's and love it. Had breakfast there on Saturday and this morning - super friendly staff and very solid Tex Mex! Would love to go back at some point in the future to try some of the lunch and dinner dishes. I had the vegetarian tacos with black beans - they're soft, whole wheat tacos that are normally served with refried beans; I ordered them with black beans (but today I forgot to order those...so I tried both)....delicious! Just the right amount of cheese, avocado and beans. The chips and salsa are awesome. The salsa has quite a good amount of heat, so it's not for the faint of heart. It's nice and thick with a fabulous flavor. Pretty addictive. The chips are really good, too...served warm and not salty (but they're really good with some added salt). Others at the table had regular tacos (chicken and beef), a salad that was raved about, french toast (which is really good) and some other egg platter with onions, sausage, hot peppers and cheese. Food is served hot and fairly promptly. Tried the bloody Mary over the weekend and asked for it extra hot - they obliged. Overall, I would love to have one of these up north in my neighborhood. Will definitely go back next time I'm in the Austin area. (Was also told that this particular location is pretty much the best). read more

Never even seated. We walked in tonight before 6 PM and were met by three different young women at the hostess stand. We were asked if we were just a party of two. Once we said yes, one of the women kept looking at the seating chart. Then another wandered off. Then, finally, we were told there weren't any tables available yet, despite a whole area of the restaurant being open. We were told there would be a 5-10 minute wait for them to clean off a table. Between the inhospitable staff, a slightly dirty location, and an air conditioning that was struggling to keep up, we decided we'd be better off somewhere else. read more

Really sweet location for a Maudie's flair of delectable Mexican. Great staff! Food never fails you. We like to sit out but really love to take our English bulldog, but only 2 tables for dogs...what the heck, it's AUSTIN people. But, always a Maudie's for great cheese enchiladas. read more

The Maida's salad on the "skinny menu" is really good. It's weird...they have the same salad on the "salad" menu, but the one on the skinny menu comes with shrimp. The outside seating has a very nice view for dinner. I ordered a prickly pear swirl (large is very large btw!) and the drink was incredibly delicious. Wasn't too strong (almost like a dessert haha). Salsa was pretty spicy which I also enjoyed. I love a good kick to my salsas. Our waitress was good & the food came out to the table VERY quickly. I was surprised how quickly the food arrived after ordering. I ordered the "Mexican plate" and was very impressed with the taste & variety. I was wary of this place because it didn't have great reviews and I like the Lake Austin location so I didn't want to mar my impression of Maudie's, but I wasn't disappointed. Let's caveat and just say that I'm not a fan of Tex Mex and usually get pancakes or migas at Maudie's so take this with a grain of salt. I love the decor and location of the place. My in-laws were pleasantly greeted with the drive in because of the water and the hills. The place is large with both indoor and covered outdoor seating. There are two sides, I was confused and parked in the lot below and it took me a while to figure out that I had to go upstairs. We ordered the fajita plate and it was huge! We also did the straight plate and the pina shrimp tacos. All came with Texas-sized portions and was good. Didn't disappoint. Even though it was busy at prime lunch rush, we were seated quickly, the waitress was really attentive (it's a win when they refill your drinks quickly), and we had a good time. read more

Came here with some friends for a Happy Hour and the Nachos had to be my favorite. Loaded individual nachos that had a surprise kick to them along with happy hour margaritas made for an enjoyable Monday after a long day working. Service is very attentive and was able to give some great recommendations of what to try being as it was our first time here. Oh dear. There is a dearth of Tex-Mex options in this area. Maybe that's why so many patrons seem to love this place... I'll admit that I may just be weary of this food since my office regularly caters from here. I've had the fajitas (both beef & chicken) many times, and okay, they're just fine. Beans, fine. Rice, meh. Chips, fine. Salsa, fine. Tortillas, fine. Queso, a bit gluey. I'll also admit, there is a large shaded balcony seating area for those who like to dine al fresco overlooking Loop 360. Last admission: I've not been here for HH, so I don't have the benefit of dining under the influence of what I hear are some quite stout ritas. Here's where my experience goes down hill. Service for dine-in is hit or miss - I've had great, I've had terrible. Also sad, the outdoor seating can sometimes be suffocated by a cloud of eau de dumpster - yuck. A helpful tip: park around back for the easiest entrance. Otherwise, climb up the stairs & around the building to get in. Perhaps the climb is a good prep to stave off the inevitable weight gain suffered from too many catered Maudie's meals. read more

I decided to give this place another chance after getting a haircut and I find myself with a similar opinion that compares to my first visit. Service was good and one thing I will give credit for is their patio provided a great spot to enjoy a meal and a drink on a nice day. Unfortunately, like last time, I was underwhelmed by the quality of drinks and food. For drinks, I tried the Derby Day and Bloody Mary. The Derby Day is made with Bourbon, Honey and Lemon water, and orange juice. Disgusting is the only word I can use to describe this drink. The honey and lemon water definitely waters down this drink and the only time I found myself happy with it was when I was done with it and could eat to get the nasty taste out of my mouth. The Bloody Mary has so far been the only drink I have enjoyed here, but it was not anything special. The salsa they serve here has a nice flavor and texture and is probably one of the few things I look forward to when I come here. The tacos al pastor were actually enjoyable, but they are by no means the best I have had and there are places where I have enjoyed tacos al pastor which were both tastier and cheaper. Still a good option though if you are here and you will not be disappointed. The Pollo Monterey was also pretty good: nice flavors, cooked well, and has a bit of heat which I always appreciate. Better food than when my last experience, but still overall leaves me not quite satisfied. My advice: avoid most of their mixed drinks and do not ordered shrimp in your fajitas if you are ordering another type of meat since they will be overcooked and rubbery. This is a restaurant I would only dine at if I am in the area, I would not come to this area solely for this restaurant. There simply are better Tex-Mex options in the Austin area. read more

Stopped by here for dinner last night, neither mind-blowing nor off-putting. Just like the three stars say, A-OK. The free chips and salsa are meh. Chips are so thin, they break just by looking at them. The salsa kinda tastes like marinara sauce mixed with salsa. But heck it's free. I tried a raspberry swirl margarita, pretty good, wished there was more raspberry goodness in it, but for a $9 goblet sized glass I'll take it. I opted for the Tio Chon Special, but asked if I could add shrimp. The up-charge brought the meal to about $13, not terrible for seafood. My dish was actually pretty good! My bf had the Carnitas Tacos which were dry and overall looked pretty sad. The presentation made his dish look skimpy, like there was not much to eat. Wouldn't recommend ordering this. Overall it's inexpensive good Tex-Mex, hit or miss. read more

We really enjoy this place and have for over 8 years and I thought it was time to mention it. The food is always great and inexpensive considering its location. The drinks are good too. The service is generally good, although it can be a little hit and miss once in a while, but everything else makes up for it. We often sit at the bar to quickly get open seats due to this locations popularity. Juan at the bar is a gem in the crown of this location, he is always bright, cheerful, remembers your name and even your order (I don't know how many gigs of RAM he has installed but my goodness, impressive) he predicts people's drink running low and has one ready. His service adds to the already great experience of frequenting this location. Thank you to the team and management, you help make life that much better. read more

I've never known quite how to feel about Maudie's. Their food is good but it's not the best mexican food I've ever had. I prefer other restaurants queso, but there's something about it that makes me continue to come back. The atmosphere is great. I love their patio seating and the inside always has a fun sort of rowdy yet classy family environment. I've never had a problem with the wait staff, they've always been very friendly and hard working. A few years ago I would go once a week with a friend and I always looked forward to it, so that says something. The breakfast tacos are incredible, they don't mess around with those. On my most recent trip I had a bacon, cheese, and egg taco and it was wonderful. The salsa they bring to the table goes great with it. Another time I had the chicken fajita quesadilla and it was good but for some reason I didn't LOVE the cheese, same with the queso. That could have just been me and my own taste though. Their frozen margaritas are SOOOO GOOOD! Maudie's holds a special place in my heart but it's not the best mexican food I've ever had. read more

Park in back, behind the building and get the Kentchilada Plate! I rarely get beef enchiladas anywhere because most places do such a bad job on the meat, but this had deliciously well made beef enchiladas (2) with verde sauce poured over. And a side of queso cheese to pour over top. Mmmmmmmmmmmm Rice and beans come with upon request. I get extra verde sauce for enchiladas and jack cheese on my retried beans. They pack their togo orders extremely well also! Decently priced home cooked healthy choices. Great drinks and bartenders too! In the very cold months the outdoor heaters actually keep you warm! We came in for breakfast this morning and the music playing on the porch you might have assumed we were at a Friday night rave. I asked them to turn it down or change it, they changed it to something slightly more appropriate for Monday morning. The food took a relatively long time to come out even through there was practically no one else in the restaurant. It was tasty food, I had migas, which apparently are special to Austin. Maudie's is now open for breakfast at 8AM! It may not seem like much of a difference from 8:30, but when you are trying to get to work or have a breakfast meeting 8AM is just an easier time. That half hour makes Maudie's doable now for morning migas or tacos! My new go-to for breakfast is Tatiana's Tamale Tacos. Eggs scrambled with tamales and cheese. On corn tortillas it's incredible. And the Tatiana's plate is $4!!!! Sit down breakfast, great coffee, really nice food, and reasonable price. I still am a fan of Waterloo 360 for breakfast but it's really nice to have Maudie's to mix it up in the mornings. read more

I am reluctant to write a review because of the popularity of this restaurant. :) I LOVE this Maudie's location. I have been a customer since 2007 and consider this one of the best run restaurants of all time. The food is delicious, the drinks are well crafted, and the staff is well trained and friendly. What they do they do well, and they are eager and willing to accept off the menu modifications as needed. The only thing I would change is the breakfast potatoes (why they are soft and not crispy I don't understand), other than that this restaurant is amazing and I admit I eat there at least once a week...sometimes 7 days a week, sometimes 2-3 times a day. Every time I have a friend visit from out of town I take them to Maudie's Milagro above all other restaurants. Top favorites are the Fajita and greens (with the cilantro lime vinaigrette) , Pete's breakfast taco's, the Tio Chon Special, and the Chipotle sauce (which I have with almost everything). It is nearly impossible to go wrong with this amazing restaurant. Get there early! read more

I I wouldn't go out of my way to come here again, but if I was in a hurry and I was nearby, I wouldn't mind grabbing a quick bite to eat here. Although lacking in flavor, the prices can't be beat. We eat here often. The service is quick and so is the food. Not my favorite place for Mexican food. However, it is close to my home, quick and a good price. They have a nice selection for breakfast as well. Large patio, it has about the same amount of seats as inside. A good place to have brunch. I like how the managers and staff help each other out. If one person has many tables then their co workers jump in and help them out. Upscale fast food Mexican food. read more

With the lack of options in the area, Maudie's shines bright in my eyes! Breakfast, lunch and dinner - I've always even impressed. They're even on my Happy Hour go-to list. The food is always fresh and comes out consistent again and again. I recommend the Chicken Chile Relleno and the queso. Never skip the queso! The house margarita is one of my favorites but I also appreciate their beer and wine selection. Horrible service. When I called to place a pick up order, they put me on hold for 30 minutes and hung up on me. I went in person and no one greeted me. Lady in a white shirt, short, with long hair and no name tag was super dissmissive and not helpful at all. The women here run around like chickens with their heads cut off while the men just actually do work. The food isnt even that great. So in summary, I would never come back to this place. read more

While the foodies tend to look down their noses at Maudie's, we find all their Austin restaurants consistently excellent. The only reason for 4 stars for Milagro is how tight and crowded the restaurant always is. This, of course, is because the food is always hot and tasty, service is generally fast, and the prices are very reasonable. I don't like the crowding, but we keep coming back. I knew it was a bit of a gamble to go there, but I rolled the dice (and lost). Ordered Huevos Rancheros and got a couple of cold eggs with some kind of salsa spooned on them, a few under-cooked potatoes that tasted like week old restaurant grease and two cold corn tortillas on the side (should have been under the eggs and the whole dish baked). I sent it back after one bite and the waiter could have cared less... no apology, did not even ask if I would like something else. He returned with the bill and disappeared. Unbelievably this guy left the dish on my bill! Manager took it off the bill for me and did ask how they could do better. Maudies joins the growing list of once good places in Austin to less a than average Tex-Mex eatery. Even Taco Bell is better than this place! No bueno. Never again. read more
