Well clearly I'm in the minority regarding this place. We used to like it (pre-Covid) but when we went the other day, our opinions changed. We do not eat dairy, so we were forced to purchase the gluten-free/vegan options, despite not having issues with eggs, gluten or wheat flour. We purchased the vegan banana bread and an expensive coconut macadamia cookie. Both were HORRIBLE. I told the woman running the shop that I dislike gluten free baked goods as they tend to be gummy. She assured me that her products were delicious. There was ZERO banana flavor in the bread and it was gummy and flavorless. YUK. The cookie was right out of the oven and SO DRY and flavorless. Not a shred of coconut to be found and the sparse macadamia nut or two were so teeny that you couldn't locate them. Most coconut/mac cookies are chewy and full of huge nuts. It was like eating pulverized cardboard. After a taste, it went in the trash. What a waste of money. Maybe if you consume butter and milk, the choices are ok, but if you are vegan, take my advice and steer clear of this place. read more

If you love fresh baked cookies and bread, this place is a must have! For all of my So. Cal Asian Yelper's , you'll know what I'm saying when I equate this to the 89 Degrees Bakery in OC. There's so many unique selections of fresh baked bread that it's almost sensory overload (which is a great thing IMO). The bakery is located in a strip mall facing Kam beach, very easy to get to and plenty of parking. They limit the number of people who can be inside at a time and masks are required. We got; K'Dog for the kids - I think it was technically a Portuguese sausage wrapped in soft bread, it was a nice quick lunch snack for the kids on our hike. Gluten free peanut utter chocolate chip mochi bread - OMG this was delish! I wish we had gotten more because our group was fighting for the last bite. Coconut Coffee - this was just ok for me, I wasn't a fan of the slight spicy flavor. I would definitely return here to try more stuff the next time we're in Kihie. read more

Last April we visited Maui Bread for the first time. All the danish pastries and breads looked delicious. We tried an assortment of breakfast pastries. We were impress by the local flavors using passion fruit, guava and mango fruits in their pastries. This a go to shop worthy of more visits. read more

I am not sure what the hype is about with this place. We came here and bought a few pastries from them and frankly I've had better for a fraction of the price. We got the following: - Ube mochi: very sweet and grainy but the flavor was not bad - Brownie: good and dense but you can find better - Banana walnut bread: I wanted to like it as it was $8-9 for the loaf but it was way to perfumy. It seems as if they added cloves or orange zest. If you like the extra ingredients it may be good to you but for us it added a perfume scent in our throats - Chocolate chip brownie: we haven't tried it since I'm disappointed with everything else My issue was not only with the flavors or the pastries. It was when I went back to the store to ask to exchange the banana bread after trying it, the ladies were rude and did not offer any solutions. When we brought up the issue to her, one of the ladies went to the back and talked about us loudly and stated that we took a huge chunk out of the bread, which was false. I would have taken a picture but I threw it away in the store after the other lady stated that we can just give it away if we don't like it. The pastries and the service will leave a bad taste in your mouth. There's so many local places that could use your money. Don't waste it here. read more

Why have we not gone here sooner?!?! I love carbs, alllllll carbs, and there are so many delicious carbs in here. Breads, cakes, scones, cookies, manapuas, brownies, mini pies, muffins, cinnamon rolls, pretty much whatever carb you are craving us in this shop. Savory or sweet, they got you covered. They offer gluten free options as well! Maui bread is located at Dolphin Plaza and opens early, 7 am and they are pretty busy then, especially from all the people who take their morning walk in Kihei. Besides all their wonderful carbohydrate goodness, they also offer a few beverages, including an iced coffee which my husband loved. I was like a kid in a candy store on our first visit here a couple weekends ago. We got here early, before 730 am and decided to get some breakfast here, which turned out to be some Manapuas which were great as breakfast food! We got the green chili chicken, beef brisket, bacon & cheese, and Portuguese sausage buns. Besides those, we also got a mango cream bun, a brownie, an almond cookie (made with almond flour!), a peanut butter cookie with bacon, a cinnamon roll, a ginger snap, ube mochi, almond scones, coconut bread, and a Mac nut pie. The almond cookie was my favorite. The almond flavor was on point and I had been craving it since I finished the last crumb so we had to make another trip here yesterday. We came here late yesterday evening, a little after 6 pm and I was scared they wouldn't have any almonds cookies left. But they DID!! I bought a ton and since my son loved his brownie the last time, had to get that too. They had a few items left so no worries if you make it here late. Service here is great. The owner and her staff are very nice and have a samples for you to try and can answer any questions you have about any of their items. If you're out in Kihei, definitely stop by Maui bread for any of your craving needs. They also own the Maui teriyaki/Maui fish n chips place a few doors down! read more

My husband and I were in the mood of getting something sweet while on our honeymoon we were staying in the next town over and found this bakery offering lots of delicious goods. We felt very welcome as we were greeted as we walked in and were offered to try some of their baked goods and juices. I ended up getting the local favorite POG (Passion fruit, orange and guava) drink which was very refreshing on the hot day. We also bought the Hawaiian bread which has coconut, macadamia nut, pineapple and carrot mixed in. I loved that the bread was very flavorful and moist. It had the right balance of flavors and had a very soft and light texture. We were told to come earlier in the day next time if we want to try some of their donuts or pastries that usually run out later in the afternoon when we went. When we return to Maui we will definitely come back to Maui Bread for more great treats. read more

Came to Maui bread during a recent vacay and was a nice treat. The bread is more dense than what I'm used to, but given the options nearby I think this is the best. They have savory and sweet treats, a bit of something for everyone. While I wouldn't go out of my way to visit here, if you're nearby you should pop in. Yum! Loved this tiny little local gem. Enveloped by Dolphin Plaza, Maui Bread can be easy to miss if you're not looking closely! We stopped by for a quick bite. There's tons of parking in the plaza, albeit a smidge difficult to maneuver. We were lucky to snag a spot right in front of the bakery. The cute decor in and out definitely pulled us in-- who could say no to an adorably smiling loaf of bread? ^_^ The owner (I wish I got her name!) was so sweet! She welcomed my friend and I warmly, encouraging us to sample some of the breads on display. Seeing all the hype on "POG" (never heard of this acronym before...), I knew we tourists had to try it! PASSION ORANGE GUAVA BREAD: It's like the texture of banana bread, but with the bite of citrus and guava! You can really taste the vibrant flavors in every piece. I love that they used natural ingredients and somehow infused the bread with tropical tanginess! It's moist & fragrant & pillowy & fruity & everything I could ever want in a specialty bread LOL. MMMMMM the pastries here are so good! The almond croissant was phenomenal! It had so much of the almond cream inside, and the croissant was so buttery and flakey. A very nice bakery with lots of sweet and savory options. If you are a pretzel lover, they have a pretzel croissant. They have the Hawaiian bread as well as Hawaiian muffin. Dozens of fresh breads baked daily throughout the day, delivered in what seems like every few minutes. I fell in love with the ham egg and cheese, wrapped in a warm pillowy soft bread topped with sesame seeds. This is only one of many delicious options, including many flavors you'd have a hard time finding outside of this island paradise. My friend and I were driving around after breakfast in search of a fruit drink. I had this place bookmarked, and suggested a slight detour from where we were. I scrolled through a ton of pictures the night before to decide on the bread I wanted lol. We both walked in and were welcomed with the sweet aroma of cookies, bread, and other baking goods. I walked around the small shop, and saw that there was vegan friendly cookies and bread. I stopped in my tracks once I saw the Hawaiian bread. It's a mouthful of ingredients, and may not be someone's cup of tea, but it works for me. This sweet bread was more of a pound cake filled with coconut flakes, macadamia nuts, carrot shreds, raisins, and bits of pineapple. I picked one up to purchase. I thought it was pretty dense for a 6 inch loaf of "bread." My first bite was nice. I tasted the soft crumbles of the buttery pound cake, before all the other flavors came pounding through. My friend was not a fan since there was too many flavors happening at the same time. Customer service lacked. There was no acknowledgment of us when we were in the shop. My friend bought a small bottle of jam that they said was approved to go through the airport check point. The employee stated it was 3.4 oz. Unfortunately, the TSA agent said since oz was not present on the label of the bottle it was not approved for travel. It was a sad moment when they confiscated it to the bin. :( I would recommend printing the weight on the labels so other visitors do not have the same experience. I arrived at 10:30 and noticed most breads were already purchased, but there were still multiple gluten-free choices so I was in luck. I tried the Banana Bread and the Peanut Chocolate Chip bar. I really really wanted to like this place. My son and I are of Asian descent and we both wore masks inside the store. I'm not sure if either of those 2 things played a difference here, but Christine was extremely rude. She is the wife of the two German owners of the shop. There was a man in front of me in line. They were literally finished with his order, and continued to talk to each other for a good 5 minutes as I waited behind him. A line started to gather behind me of 5 different people, and she still continued to talk to this man. She wouldn't even make eye contact with me. When he finally left, she gave me the two croissants I ordered and told her employee to take over so she could run after the man with his bread. It was honestly weird... I had a spelt flour bread for $1.49, sesame covered mini French bread for 1.49, and a cheese and nuts, paprika bread roll for $3. The cheese and paprika with nuts roll was probably the best roll I had. It didn't need to be put on anything since it was bustling with flavor. It was not too salty too. The spelt flour roll bread was kind of bland, but it was still good. The sesame covered mini French bread had a generous load of sesame on it. Have you ever had BAKED MOCHI?! Yeah. I know. Me neither. Mochi is something I'd consider myself a complete snob at. I can make my own mochi with paste at home and I think my family's recipe is pretty dang good! But I was not expecting Maui Bread to have baked mochi. That's right, instead of the traditional steamed mochi you see in Japan or elsewhere, it's baked at this bakery to look and feel like soft bread. We stopped by after dinner for some bread for breakfast the next morning, and were excited to see how cute the interior was and how many different ingredients and flavors the breads had. We bought the POG (passion fruit, orange and guava) bread which was pretty yummy but not entirely truthful to the mix of the three flavors, a savory danish from the cashier's table, and a baked ube mochi. The cashier also convinced my boyfriend to get the fresh coconut milk which was fresh and from the big island! It was an interesting texture because the bits of the coconut flesh were ground to tiny sand-like pieces. However, I would have preferred just a regular old coconut. I felt like not a lot of the flavors we were looking for in our items truly stood out. I think the baked ube mochi was a let down, although very pretty and well-packaged, the ube flavor didn't make its way through. The friendly cashier did mention that the other flavor they had was a more popular item...but I just thought...I'm in HAWAII I have to get some UBE! That was the only bite of ube-related-food we had the entire Maui trip. I applaud this bakery for doing so many flavors and really creating a cute atmosphere for bread.
