For some reason, I was craving a pie(which never happens btw) and was gonna be in Kīhei so I decided to stop by. This place has its own cute little shop on South Kīhei road, kind of across of Jack in the Box. It was easy to find since it was facing the road. I ended up getting two pies, mango strawberry(pictured) and an apple pie for my cousin. I loved both! The top and crust was nice and crumbly. The pies weren't too sweet and just the right amount of tart. I enjoyed these so much that I bought a special huge tube of ice cream to go with it. Months after seeing a few pics and reading 5-star reviews, we finally made it in since we were in the area. ATMOSPHERE: The shop is located in the Azeka Shopping Center fronting South Kihei Road, two doors away from Taco Bell. Big windows let in lots of light and is great for people/traffic watching from the all-table seating. MENU: Fruit and cream pies, pot pie, quiche, turnovers, cookies, muffins, rolls. FOOD: Chicken Pot Pie - 6" $10.95, 9" $21.95. Go big or go home! All the homemade pot pies are frozen, and they need at least an hour's notice if you'd like it baked there. We took it home and popped it in the oven per the on-box directions, 375-degrees for 75 minutes, and it came out perfect. We didn't let it set so the contents came oozing out as we sliced it, which was fine because it was piping hot. The crust was buttery and flavorful, with a subtle crunch and moist interior. The filling was savory with an herby-peppery flavor, with chunky bits of chicken, potatoes, peas, carrots, onions and mushrooms. I haven't had many pot pies to compare to, but I really liked it here. We got a slice of strawberry rhubarb pie, coconut pie, and 2 cookies (sugar and macadamia). The pies and cookies were delicious. The strawberry rhubarb was very sweet but I'm not sure if that's how they always are since it was my first time trying. I will say they lose a point for service. We wandered over based mostly on the fact that my family enjoys a good slice of pie and the name "Maui Pie" seemed enticing. What we found was some of the best pie we've had, anywhere. They give you a daily selection of about 12 different pies, including ones with local flair like haupia, mango, etc. First visit, I had a strawberry mango that I thought was incredible. My mom and I love this place. Our favorite is the banana cream pie, but the other flavors are pretty good too. We really liked the raspberry & peach. We would eat here a lot more often if it wasn't located so far from us. The workers are always nice. The only negative I have is the price. For each pie, it's about $16. The woman at the counter was sweet as can be. She was very helpful when helping us decide which pies to get. She explained that you can buy full sized pies, mini pies, and pies by the slice. We ended up getting 4 slices, so that we could try a variety! We ordered strawberry rhubarb, strawberry mango, key lime, and banana creme. They were all delicious. My favorite was the strawberry rhubarb! I also really enjoyed the strawberry mango, which she said is their best seller. The key lime pie was also good, but I prefer a graham cracker crust; theirs is a regular flakey pie crust. However, my husband said he actually preferred theirs. I guess it's just a personal preference! We loved our pies so much that we went back the next day! This time, we got a large chicken pot pie for dinner and a mini strawberry rhubarb for dessert. Y'all, the chicken pot pie had me swooning. The initial bite is a bit peppery, but it mellows out after that. This pie has SO much flavor! It is always so funny to me that you have to travel halfway around the world or in this case 2300 miles to meet people who are local to where you live. That was the case this year when we ended up chatting to the ladies at the table next to us at Sansei and reunited with one of them the week after and even shared a table with them for dinner. Since we are all frequent Mau`i visitors, we spent the hour and a half sharing our old favorites and new Mau`i finds. They raved about Maui Pie that we had to stop by after our dinner to check it out for ourselves. With a selection of savory pies and 10+ mini sweet pies to choose from, there is something for everyone. Since we just finished dinner, we shared a slice of chocolate haupia pie which was served in a cute glass container. Service was friendly and the store clean even an hour before closing. Recently, one of my other sisters flew into town from Maui. When we told her we'd pick her up from the airport, she mentioned that she was bringing over some pies for us and my eldest sister. She also told us to bring a cooler as the pies would be frozen so we could store them until we put the pies into our freezer then just bake them at our convenience. We drove her up to my eldest sister's home where we ended up staying for dinner. My visiting sister suggested that we bake one of the pies which turned out to be chicken pot pie. We baked the frozen 9" pie at 400 degrees for 30 minutes and then continue baking for an additional 25 minutes at 350 degrees. Oh Gawd...as it was baking, the buttery crust aroma mixed with a savory blend of vegetables and herbs filled the room. Talk about stomach growling and drooling among family members! We took the golden brown pie out from the oven and allowed it to rest for 15 minutes before cutting it. So let me say this...if you ever had a Marie Callendar's or Swanson's chicken pot pie, GET THAT OUT OF YOUR MIND! Maui Pie's chicken pot pie was chock full of chicken breast meat, potatoes, onions, celery, peas, well-balanced seasonings and a cream sauce that held all the ingredients together when the pie was sliced into. Each bite that we took was filled with tender chicken and vegetables encased between a flaky buttery crust. We were all praising the quality of ingredients, flavor and textures. The five of us demolished that pie, we graciously only ate one slice as we allowed my sisters and brother-in-law to have additional slices. Just a couple of days ago, I baked my chicken pot pie and we've made several meals from it. We savored each mouthful and can't wait until my sister returns as she promised she'd bring more pies from this company. Bravo, Maui Pies!
