Some people in the food industry don't realize how much value a warm smile or a friendly "hello" or "how can I help you?" can add to their business. We got a cherry pie here in preparation for our Thanksgiving feast. I can say, without a doubt, this was my favorite cherry pie I've had. Ever. I grew up with a mom and grandma who baked, a lot! I grew up on cherry pie and I was always iffy on whether or not I liked it. It was the last pie I craved or reached for on a holiday. But my husband LOVES cherry pie. So while visiting Hawaii for Thanksgiving, I stopped by and picked up a pie for him. Oh boy. At our Thanksgiving party, everyone loved this pie. Even my sister in law who also doesn't love cherry. Excellent pies. Wasn't wanting to try them because I was trying to hold out for Leoda's when we are finished in South Maui and head to west Maui. But so glad we went in. At 6:15 they still had many varieties up for sale. Leoda's usually runs out of most pies by 4:30. You can get a large whole pie, a mini pie, or a slice. There are also fruit turnovers and yummy looking cookies for sale. My chocolate cream pie slice. (About $5)was very smooth-pricey yes but so flavorful. My hubby got a better deal with the strawberry mango slice with ice cream. The fruit pies slices seem bigger due to the consistency and "height" of the pie itself. We came here thirty minutes before closing and the women behind the counter were very friendly. We had a big party of 8 so wasn't sure if we overwhelmed them or not. You pay at the counter and they brought us our pie. Very interesting place. They have four indoor tables and a few outdoor tables. You can get a whole pie or a slice. Each slice is a sixth of the pie. They have a pie cutter to make sure it's always cut evenly. I shared a slice of coconut cream pie with my wife and it was so good. Fresh coconut. So creamy with a nice crust. Really enjoyed it. My daughter got the strawberry rhubarb and it was so good too. Got a few quick bites. My son got the mango strawberry a la mode. He inhaled it so it must have been good. He also ordered a cup of coffee. They didn't have any coffee made so they brewed a whole pot of coffee just for him. Right before closing. So I liked their willingness to serve us with a smile. Weren't angry at all for us tourist coming here right before closing. So I appreciate their service. As we were finishing up the workers started to bring in the tables from outside and we asked them if they would be willing to take a picture of us. After all the hype I have to say these aren't the best pies I've ever had. Previously I had some of the key lime pie and it was very very good. This time we bought a couple of the fruit pies and unfortunately they only come with the crumb top instead of a pastry top. I much prefer a pastry top because it's not so sweet. The crumb top was very sugary, and a bit too sweet for my taste. But the filings were good and the bottom crust was good. The Lilikoi muffin was outstanding. I guess I have been spoiled from eating so many Komoda pies (Makawao). At least they are freshly baked right there in the store, which is nice and clean and friendly. Looking forward to a future when they make a plain pastry top. I might add that at $10 for a small pie that seems pretty expensive. I'll take my 10 bucks up to Makawao and get a large pie and change. UPDATE: You can call them up and let them know you'd like a pastry top fruit pie and they will make that special for you with enough notice! Now that's what you call customer service. read more

I thought pie here was pretty good! Crust was super flaky and tasty, the haupia chocolate pie was perfect. I like the chocolate cream portion and the haupia is Hawaii style- more like jello but still has that super good coconut cream taste. The only thing I don't like is the whipped cream they use! It's more like a cool whip texture and I'm a HUGE whip cream fan so was a little disappointed with that. Had the banana cream as well, the bananas were not overripe so that's a huge plus! Words can't describe how in love I am with Maui Pie. I have been there maybe 5 or 6 times, and because their pie is so darn amazing I keep finding myself coming back and trying something new. The apple pie is perfectly crispy. The mango strawberry is tart in all the right ways. Northshore berry is truly heaven. Strawberry peach is so so summery and satisfying. And that coconut cream pie is truly the best, yes best, I have ever had. The lilikoi muffin & lilikoi lemon bars are also so ono. Seriously people you can't go wrong with Maui Pie. The girls in there are always so friendly with the store itself being clean and fresh. Stopped by Maui Pie on the first day we arrived on Maui. Got the mini banana cream pie. It was so delicious! It was probably the best banana cream pie that I've had, second only to the ones my dad used to make when I was growing up. The crust was flaky and buttery, banana cream not too sweet, and the bananas sweet but not mushy. A couple of days later I was back for the mini chocolate haupia pie because I always have to have chocolate haupia pie when I come to Hawaii. It was good with the same flaky and buttery crust but wouldn't say it was the best chocolate haupia pie I've ever had. A couple of days later I was back for banana cream pie. This place is worth 10 STARS for the cream pies!!!! I LOVE banana cream and coconut cream. I got a slice each and ate them myself. The BEST HANDS DOWN for both of these pies. The coconut has LOTS of coconut in it. The cream in both of the pies aren't gloppy or heavy. It's not like mousse at all but the cream smooth, creamy and light. I also had the haupia chocolate pie and the peanut butter chocolate. YESSSS... I ordered 4 slices and ate 3.5 of them. I wish the haupia was more coconuttier and a bit smoother, not as gelatinous, but it's the best one I have had so far. The peanut butter chocolate pie - the peanut butter isn't too thick. It was light, but not like a mousse. The crust on all these pies are AH-MAH-ZING!! Light and flaky!! I didn't order any of the baked pies because I don't like crumble tops. I had the peanut butter chocolate pie. The filling of the pie was delicious, I'm a fan of chocolate and peanut butter. It reminds me of Reese's pieces. The only reason I don't rate it higher is because the crust taste like it should be for a savory chicken pot pie. Graham cracker would've be awesome. Also whip cream on top has salt in it. Everything is so good! We stopped in after a friend of mine recommended, and we were not disappointed at all. The shop is clean and everyone is super friendly. They have such a wide selection of flavors- both in the fruit pies and the cream pies. Of course, we got four small ones to try a little bit of everything. My favorites were the Banana Creme and the Cherry Mango. So dang good. The detailed shell on top of each pie is so cute! My family and I actually stopped next door to get shaved ice and I stumbled on this place. I walked in looking for malasada, but I was too late. Instead I purchased a banana cream pie. But this pie was not an ordinary banana cream pie. On the bottom was a chocolate graham cracker crust. Followed by chocolate ganache, a layer of bananas, and banana filling. Tried Maui Pie for the first time today.... We will DEFINITELY be back! Enjoyed 2 of their savory pies for lunch ~ Mediterranean Veggie Quiche & Chicken Pot Pie. Started with the true test of any pie, the crust. It was full bodied, buttery, flaky and completely complimented the wonderful filling of both savory pies. The Mediterranean Veggie Quiche was a nice blend of egg, mushrooms, tomatoes and the perfect amount of feta to give it a nice flavor but not be overpowering. The Chicken Pot Pie was absolutely hearty & delicious. Put this one at the top of your comfort food list. Yummy! It was perfectly seasoned and not salty. I could taste just the right amount thyme. Come here expecting pie. They have so many different flavors! I wanted a meal too and I was happy to find that they also have chicken pot pies in 6 and 9 inch diameter portions. The 6 inch you can order to dine in. I had the chicken pot pie and slices of the banana cream and strawberry rhubarb pie. I could only finish two so I ended up taking the rest home for lunch. All were very tasty. The chicken pot pie was seasoned and not dry, which sometimes it can be at other restaurants. I love this place! And am so grateful that it is only 5 minutes from my house! The Portuguese sausage quiche is beyond amazing. The crust is buttery and flakey, the cheese is melty and yummy and there is the perfect amount of sausage all folded in. I have also been blessed to have one of their chocolate chip cookies, warm right out of the oven. Oh my gosh... I don't have the words to describe it properly! It was just perfect. It wasn't overly sweet and it was just the right size. Those 2 items totaled less than $10. What a great lunch! I went back again and couldn't decide which turnover to try... Like others have said, YES, you need to go here. I am normally a fan of sweeter pie crusts on 'sweeter' pies but the crust here works so well on the chocolate peanut butter pie. GET IT. EAT IT. LOVE IT. We did it twice while here. You may have to come early as they do sell out. read more
