i placed an appt online on 12/16/25 and arrived for 10a on 12/17/15 for a wheel alignment & tire rotation. Simple right?? The weather is getting snowy. I wanted to be prepared. German was the desk employee. He had 2 garage techs/workers that morning ( 1 guy & 1 girl) . The guy working on my car was a short african american man with tattoos on both sides of his neck. German was visiting from the Farmingdale location bc they apparently were short staffed. He said the tech would start my car in a few minutes. I admit I dont know much abt cars but i watched thru the glass as the tech placed the wheel weights on my tires (one fell off 10 minutes later while I was standing at the window watching & he had to remount it) and to me, it makes more sense to rotate the tires before you align it. I asked German about it and he said NO, that's how they do it. I said OK...then 45+ min later, German tells me the tech says my struts need to be replaced, that i had serious wear on my front tires and need to replace them. The struts would cos $1080 and then the cost of the 2 tires. I said i had NOT come to spend $1K on my car so the struts would have to wait. After all, as far as I was concerned, my car was running fine. This was just a preventative measure. German was very polite throughout the process from the start at 10a. Then the tech came out. He said the same thing that German said and emphasized that I needed to be "VERY CAREFUL" until I get this work done. He said it more than once which i thought was strange bc my car was running perfectly fine so what did I need to be careful of?? But I had an errand to run so I told him I understood, thanked him and waited for him to finish up so I could get my car. Id been here almost 2 hours already. I leave around 12p. As a start to drive , i notice my steering is tight, im putting more effort to maintain a straight path....then after about 15m i noticed the wheel is starting to bank left and im starting to course correct it. Then as I drive and pass over seams in the road, a bump,etc, i get this LOUD bump with every little thing my tires passes over!! A noise I've never heard before. Soon after, my wheel starts to bank right....and I'm putting in the same effort to keep it straight. Every time it goes over the slightest thing in the road, the wheels almost fishtail so NOW IM CONCERNED. So i finish my errand and go home bc I have plans and can't go back to Mavis now. I felt totally unsafe getting home, driving with EXTREME care, slowly bc everything made the car Mmove off center! Both hands firmly gripping the wheel bc the wheel needed that much control! WHAT TF DID THAT TECH DO TO MY CAR?? It felt as if he INTENTIONALLY left something undone/loose to cause my car to suddenly act as it had NEVER acted before so I'd come back and get those struts done. This car has been unproblematic for almost 18 years with regular maintenance so why one touch at Mavis and my car is all out of whack?? Is THAT what he meant by his "be careful, be very careful..."?? Is this how you get customers to spend more money in this location?? I purchased my tires from another location in 2021 and didnt have any problems. I dont know what kind of SCAM this location is running but either it was a set-up OR that tech was incompetent AF and messed up my car! If he thought I'd come running back when I realized something was seriously off with my car, he's wrong. Mavis will NEVER touch my car again. I should've went to Nissan for the alignment but I thought bc I'd purchased my tires from this company with no problems, a simple alignment/rotation would be no problem. I was wrong. It cost me $130 for them to ruin my cars alignment and God knows what else. I'm pissed AF. For someone to intentionally mess with your car and cryptically tell you to "BE VERY CAREFUL" is a crime. He put my life at risk. With all the snow and slick spots from the snow earlier this week, how DARE anyone play games with someone's life to make a quick buck. I hope this location gets shut down. Its a danger to drivers!!! UPDATE 12/22/25: I took it to my uncle 2 days later when he had time to look at it and he said he could literally see my wheels were not even fully touching the ground! That's how bad the alignment was! He drove it and said heard the squeak every time he turned a corner. He felt everything I felt. But it was Sunday so he wanted his mechanic to take a look at it too on Monday. The mechanic said what I already knew: The alignment was WAY OFF. They also said struts were NOT necessary as they recommend them around 100k. Im only at 77k. Tires were fine too! So they re-aligned my car and it is smooth sailing! The steering is back to normal. This didnt have to be difficult. Mavis made it difficult and this location should be investigated and shut down. Upselling is one thing, Sabotaging my car so I'd pay for services I did not need? Oh, my sister had an issue in the morning with her car on Long Island called Mavis a services we've used before at this location. Spoke to George who did not mention he was in a call center but who offered to give me two tires at $239 plus tax they offered a free alignment check, and in the event that the alignment was needed that would be $99 to which we said yes in addition, although George told me I could take the car in right away. The gentleman at Mavis was now advising us that they only had one worker and the car wouldn't be serviced until noon. Still not a problem. My sister went back to work, and we waited. so imagine my surprise when at 1 o'clock they called to say the tires we wanted are not available or that we gave them the wrong tire information and that they needed to add another hundred dollars and the tires will now be $439 plus tax this is the kind of bait and switch that happens with car dealerships and car places especially when they're dealing with women and it is deplorable that Mavis participates in this level of behavior it is atrocious despicable disgusting. Don't go there we went back and we picked up our car. What they're hoping, is that they have your car and it's on the lift and it's now tireless and you're so desperate you don't go back and you get it - well, they miscalculated we went. We got our car and took it to another local servicer. Do not use them try someone else. read more

If you're a woman, you get pleasant conversation. If you're a man, you get cold conversation unless you are being sold on something. Not a good start. I made a reservation online, yet the front desk rep "had to make sure we have it in stock". Why make a reservation? After "verifying" the tire was in stock, they brought my car in to work on the tire. Not wanting a problem, I volunteered which tire needed changing, they never asked, yet took the time to tell me they were going to check my brakes. If you can't talk to me as nice as you spoke to a lady, why do I want to give you more money? Moreover, WHY SHOULD I TRUST YOU? After trying to upsell me on brakes, while one guy works on my tire, another guy is trying to upsell me on another tire. See above on my position on that. The person working on my tire asked me for the wheel lock. After several minutes we found it in the glove compartment (who knew I had one?) What was good is they took my car right away. When the technician finished working on my tire, the guy I referred to above asked me if I wanted a warranty on the tire. I asked how much it cost, he gave me the answer and that is all he said. There was no friendliness and his voice, there was no niceness and his attitude, in fact he seemed to not even want to talk to me. He hands me the receipt, I asked him if there was something that describe the warranty and in a gruff manner he said no. And then grumbled it was on the back of the receipt. Up till this point, I was going to give a four star rating even with all that I described above. But that was the straw that broke the camels back. The only reason I came to this location, was that my tire was so low that I did not think I was going to make it anywhere else. I'm going to add a sidenote here: this was my second encounter with this location. My wife had come to this location to buy a tire once before and the technician broke the apparatus needed to roll down and roll up the window on the driver side. At first we were told it was going to be replaced at no charge. I came back over five times To get this part replaced. Honestly, it seemed like they were delaying me until I would give up. I did not. I rarely write one-star reviews, but my experience here has been truly horrific. I had a screw in my tire and wanted to get it quickly patched (I had an appointment). MAVIS said I needed a whole new tire - I trusted MAVIS so I told them to replace the whole tire (new tire and balance package with tax comes to around $170 - Already more than I was hoping to spend). They then told me a lugnut was stripped and it couldn't go back on the car. They said because of the issue with the lugnut, the fix would be very expensive but if I "threw the mechanic $60 CASH" then I'd be getting a discount. This is SKETCHY. At this point though, they had my car hostage and I desperately needed to get back to work so I needed a tire on my car. After sitting in MAVIS for over an hour and a half, my car was finally ready - My credit card was charged $170, and then the cashier says "remember to take care of the mechanic." Is this normal practice for Mavis? Because I truly am shocked. The last time I went there, Jose (at the cash register) would not finish my transaction until I wrote a glowing review on Google about him, and asked that I show him the review before handing me back my credit card. He also calls women "mama" which is highly inappropriate and unprofessional. I honestly don't know how this place is in business. I show up 20 min before they closed yesterday to just get my tire patched up which takes like 5 minutes, they had 2 cars and one empty garage so i pulled in only to be told they are closed for the day and to go across the street (basically giving away customers and turning down money). One of the guys there goes " look how busy we are " clearly you are not that busy if there is an empty garage i can pull into. However i will not be returning because the mavis on hempstead tpke across from quick check is much better and nicer so i will go there instead. Caution to all woman coming to this establishment. I came into Mavis for a general inspection. I will admit I'm not proficient with cars and do not know much about them. I told them I didn't want anything special, just what I needed for my inspection. I put my faith and trust in the men working that day, hoping they would not take advantage of me but, I never should have done that. I came in May and did not realize I was ripped off, until today when I mentioned to my co-worker that my inspection was so expensive. He reviewed my receipt for my 2019 VW Tiguan. I have had no issues with my car whatsoever. Balancing my tires $75 Brakes being flushed $80 Oil change $67 Other misc items Grand total for my "inspection": $275 for my 2019 VW Tiguan. My co-worker asked, "why do you need your tires balanced and brakes flushed on a car thats less that 2 years old? And why are these people charging you for it to pass inspection without your consent?" I did not have an answer. I've never felt so taken advantage of. I'm a health care worker and my availability is very limited as I work 12.5 hour shifts. I truly believed Mavis was a reputable and simple fix to my problem. I feel so foolish. I will never go back to them again, nor would I recommend them to any one else. Please, if you're a woman and you feel you are being overcharged, get a second opinion! My co-worker said that even if they remove your inspection sticker, you can request a 10 day temporary sticker and go to someone who will not rip you off. read more

I couldn't believe how quick and easy it was to get my tire fixed. He went above and beyond. I would recommend going to Mavis in East Meadow soon Hempstead Tpke and asking for Jose to help you. I brought my car to have an inspection done on it and this short African-American dude comes up to me going "Yeah your battery shorted twice while he was bringing the car in..." it's a seven second drive from the lot to the inside of the shop. Not once has it shorted on me and then he has the audacity to say that I'm going to fail the inspection unless I get it replaced then and there. Beware of these thieves...goofy clowns. Stood there for about five minutes before someone decided to come and ask me if he could help me. They were not doing anything. I was told my tire could not be fixed, I had a nail in it, and a new tire would cost me $300. Took it to Tire Discount in Levittown and not only did they fix it, it was only $18. I came in for an inspection and this was done quickly and according to their time estimates when asked. What concerns me is what happened after the inspection. I was informed that I needed new brakes and ball joints. I asked to see the proof and, after taking me to my vehicle, was shown a brake pad with about 7 to 8 millimeters left and a ball joint that, after placing my vehicle on a lift, was described (again) as needing replacement while showing play in the wheel. Note that the typical brake pad can wear to about 3 millimeters and, in the great majority of cases, if your ball joint is worn you'd hear the banging sound while driving. Nonetheless, after being told that my brakes have about "2 weeks worth of use left" (though one may wonder how that calculation was made, especially if one doesn't drive in the next 2 weeks....) and my ball joints needed immediate replacement I got a second opinion at the garage who has been servicing me and my vehicles for close to 20 years. Needless to say, I don't need ball joints nor brake pads at this time. Conclusion? I called Mavis to inform them about my experience. A manager, on vacation at the time of this incident, was told and thanked me. This type of thing is an old one. I believe it was done knowingly and was based on the old curse we are forced to have to deal with too often: greed. Buyer beware and, unfortunately, always get a 2nd, or even 3rd, opinion when you can. There's cheaters out there, even when cheating is dumb and way too much of a short ranged incentive to make sense to those of us who know that a bad reputation ruins a business very effectively. read more

I went to get my car inspected today at my usual place. They told me to go to Mavis and get a stem on my front right tire because I won't pass inspection. So I went to my local Mavis and they said it would take 2 and half hours. I told them that I needed to take my daughter to Dance and I cannot wait that long. Quentell said that he would see what he can do. To my amazement they were done in less than hour with a new stem , lugnut and inspection all completed. The price was also very fair. Well I can before it opened and they told me 3 cars ahead hmmmm. Needed some tires and alignment so ok . After hour and a half he gives me back my keys and I pay. So it was really weird that I didn't see them do the alignment. I ask oh, we forgot WTF! It's on the work order and charged me 129.99 for the alignment and we forgot!!!! Are you kidding me!?!?!? So I wait some more. I don't see my car in the pit 30min passes I am pissed. I hate people wasting my time. You can't turn back time or buy it so. Bad service! We waited over 25 minutes and was not properly greeted only to be told to wait. Only one other customer in store. There is three people working on one car. I think workers need to be trained to be more efficient and management needs training on multitasking and customer service especially when I had spent money towing my car to their facility and calling before hand. We went to Mavis at 2250 Hempstead turnpike and Bill,the manager was a horrific gentleman to work with. He not only verbally assaulted us but when asked to rotate tires refused service. If he doesn't want to work on a Sunday perhaps he shouldn't be in a job that requires him to do so I'm not sure why he was so crazy and belligerent but I am appalled at his lack of people skills and Will never go or suggest them to anyone. read more

Don't leave any valuables in your car. I left my car to pick up later, and somewhere between the new tire installation they did, and the alignment they suggested and I decided let them do, the bag of quarters I keep in may car for my $2.50 a day train station meters, got emptied out. They charged me a few dollars more than the quoted price on the tire, but they only give you the itemized invoice AFTER you have paid so I didn't bother asking for a refund. After getting into my car and finding the empty quarter bag, I decided to let them know. When I told them about my missing quarters, they looked skeptical but offered to give me back the $7.50 that was taken. I should have accepted, but they didn't seem to believe me, and instead of them being apologetic, I felt like I had done something wrong. It wasn't worth it. I came in here to get a flat tired patched. They fixed it up and put it back on my car, putting the spare back in the trunk. It took about an hour and a half. The salesman was nice, advised on getting a new tire, also tried to sell me a fluid flush, new shocks, and a tire realignment (I knew it wasn't necessary because I just had my car into the dealer a month prior with no concerns by the service team). But I've come to learn from going to MAVIS in the past that they usually try to push these kinds of services on you.
