Went there with my Chevy Avalanche to get an oil change and tire rotation. I had an appointment. After waiting 20 minutes the "owner" tells me can't rotate the tires on vehicle?? WTF. He says he doesn't have a lift big enough. What?? My truck is like a pickup, no bigger than an F150 or a Tahoe. This makes NO sense and I suspect he didn't want to do it for the advertised special price. I have taken my truck here BEFORE this owner took over. I do NOT recommend taking your vehicles here. Any full service (brakes, exhaust, oil changes, etc) place should and can rotate tires....please! read more

The can't even tell the difference Between a Brake stain and cracked rotor, they told me my rotors were cracked and had to change or it will be dangerous to drive on. I took my rotors to the dealer and they magically removed the cracks with a cloth and shows what they were only stains. They also over charged 50 dollars a tire on 4 tires, which they didn't even bother to check to see if they installed right. the car lost tire pressure the same day because they misdiagnosed the issue. almost crashed. read more

Came here for an oil change, the staff is really nice. The customer service people handle the appointments and monetary aspect of things, but I noticed if something is actually wrong with your car the mechanic will stop what he's doing and come and explain everything to you. The service is great both in the lobby and in the shop. The prices are reasonable and for most of the basic stuff there is pricing up on the wall, so you know if you are getting screwed or not. The hours are also great and they are willing to work with you to accommodate your schedule. Will be back read more

I dropped my car off for a basic oil change. I received a call a few hours later from the service manager stating they had found a leak with my power steering reservoir and hoses and that they would need to be replaced. He quoted me a price of over $700 and said if I had the work done right away he could "work out a deal." I decided to wait and assess the issue myself and told them just to perform the oil change. When I went to pick up my car the service manager gave me a quote using the original parts, and a second quote using "after market" parts that was about $100 less. Needless to say I decided I would take the car to another mechanic for a second opinion. Final result was the hoses just needed to be tightened to keep fluid from leaking. There was no "crack in the reservoir" and hoses DID NOT need to be replaced. Long story short it cost me $20 instead of SEVEN HUNDRED!!!! The $19.99 oil change is great in theory but not when they try and up sell the customer. Honesty is everything and these people are NOT honest!!!!! I do not recommend unless you make it clear you just want an oil change!!! read more

Needed brakes for my wife's Range Rover and called around to several STS and Midas locations to see if they had the brake pads required for the vehicle. All of them said that they could order the pads which would require me to take a day off to bring the car in during the work week. I called Hawthorne Midas and they said they didnt have the pads but would run out to a local supply place and get them for me so the car could be serviced immediately. Not only was the man at the counter rude and raised his voice at me, he also gave me a completely wrong answer to my question, and wanted to charge me just to check my pressure. Right from the first phone call with Frank at the Midas in Hawthorne, I knew this shop was better than most. I wanted to have a used car that I was thinking about buying looked at by a qualified mechanic. The car had a clean Autocheck report (that is a yelp review for another time), and Frank assured me that lots of accidents and damage on cars doesn't come up on those types of reports. Something I already knew, but him saying it showed that he had more of an ethical backbone than most mechanics I've dealt with. After handing the car over to Ron (actually the owner and manager of the Midas), Ron took it for a test drive with the owner and then began his meticulous inspection of the car: inside, outside, under, everything. His search revealed a rear end collision, a front end collision, an oil leak, and other surprises that would have caused me a big headache. Ron and Frank explained and showed all these things to me in private, away from the owner so that he wouldn't influence any of their report's finding. Ron gave me a verbal summary of the car and what I should negotiate off the price. For ~$75 (about the average rate for this type of service), these guys did an excellent job of preventing me from buying a POS. Only later did a carfax confirm all the accident history that didn't show up on the Autocheck, further confirming the competent abilities of Ron and his inspection. read more

Very lazy mechanics! Went in for a half hour oil change.. ended up taking over an hour and 15 minutes because everyone was too lazy and busy doing nothing to ask the truck that was in front of the garage door with my car to move. The truck was stationary, no one was doing work with it. And my mechanic was just staring outside. When finally 20-30 minutes passed I started looking and only then did someone actually do something about it. LAZY PEOPLE! I went in for the early morning, right at 8 am... Did not get out simply because everyone was too busy staring outside to do something. Definitely not going back there. Other places will definitely do it faster and with more efficiency. Who says it will take 30 minutes and then with no problems have it take an hour and 15 minutes? I can find a place better. And next time.. I will. read more

This place is terrible. I was an auto mechanic for 10 years. I went there for an oil change because I no longer have access to a shop and their price was good. After the oil change they took me into the shop and told me I need new brakes. " they were out of spec" I was told. Problem is the rear brake pads and rotors were replaced less than a year ago and are fine. The front brakes were fine too. They pointed to the rust. Well, all rotors get a little rusty around the edges. Another thing I need to mention is that they did this to every customer before me! The owner is a crook and prays upon you! Get a second opinion before doing any work with these guys. read more

I passed the Midas shop and the sign outside has on it "oil change and tire rotation $19.99" This is a great price and I needed both for my vehicle. Brought it in and only the oil was changed, no tire rotation. I was told that I needed new tires and a front end alignment so they did not do the tire rotation. I had new tires put on the vehicle recently along with a front end alignment. I have Michellin Defender tires that should be good for 90,000 miles. I have approx 25000 miles on them. They are not worn or wearing poorly. Long story short, I was given an estimate for over $1000 for tires, alignment,wipers, new hoses and new battery. I felt like I was being sold on things that my car did not need(other than the battery). I can see that if you did not know much about cars, you might be upsold on things that were not necessary.
