I visited Mavis because I needed air in a tire. i thought I had a leak and hopefully it could be repaired or God forbid, buy a new tire. I made an appointment and asked what it would cost if they fixed the leak. I thought $43 was fair. I brought my car in and returned later for them to tell me No Charge. I almost fainted!! There was dirt in between the rim and the tire, they removed the dirt. nothing else was necessary! They could have lied and charged me to repair or even tell me I had to buy a new one. Being an elderly woman, I would never have known. BUT they didn'! they told me the truth. I will recommend them forever. The young men that helped me were Carl, Ariel, Cristian and Lui. I called ahead, and still waited almost 4 HOURS for an inspection, even though there was "1-2 ppl" in front of me. These guys also try to upcharge you every chance they get. Use ai to your advantage folks. Look up the issues that are presented to you (including pictures if possible) and find out for yourself what you should be paying and whether or not you actually need something replaced. It almost hit hour 5 before my car was even lowered and returned to me. Not worth the ripoff and waste of time here smh... read more

I very rarely leave negative reviews anywhere, FYI. Mavis in Tarrytown has, on more than one occasion, been among the worst businesses I have frequented. I as well as colleagues of mine have repeatedly gone there and had our car come out with additional problems due to slipshod work. In fact, the first time I went there, a woman in line ahead of me complained about the same thing. The guy at the counter (this was a few years ago), a well-coiffed young blond white guy who resembled a frat boy who never had to take responsibility for anything in his life, made some humdrum excuses both to the woman and, later, to me. He said something along the line of "Well, people sometimes make mistakes." No apology, no compensation, no promise that this wouldn't happen again. I could tell that he had given this speech many times, which led me to think that he was used to slipshod work in the shop. My friend and colleague likewise had two bad experiences with the same shop just this past year. In one case they left the door open or one of the lights on (I forget which) and his battery died by the time he came to pick up his vehicle. Again, no apology, no compensation, no recognition that "this is inexcusable" or "this is one us." I would go anywhere for tire work but this shop. read more

Not accommodating to trusted customers. After the cold weather, two tires were a little low and the low tire pressure warning came on, since their air machine was broken, I called to ask if sometime today I could stop by and have them put in a little air in those tires, I said I would pay, the guy said no, we're too busy. We are talking about something that would have taken 2 minutes tops for a long time customer. We're talking about putting air in a tire, not getting an engine overhaul. This is not the type of customer service that you want to trust with your car, they don't care about even good customers. If you choose to get tires or any mechanical work done be aware of the response you will get if anything goes wrong. They should be ashamed of themselves. I realize management will most likely respond with the same canned response they give in all the other one star reviews( and there are many( press option 2 etc) I will bring my car in for air later in the week at a shop a block away from them, I'm sure they will be more accommodating. Scammers of the highest order. I don't know if it was because I was small and young looking. I don't know if it is because I am a woman or if they are simply trying to make as much money as quickly as possible with no regard to the intelligence of the people they communicate with. I went for a simple inspection and received a phone call pretty quickly after telling me I need new brakes... I do pretty good upkeep on my car and imagined Poor brakes might be a reason I would fail the inspection...So when they told me they would not pass me, I was not surprised. However I almost passed out when they quoted me at $2300 to fix my brakes. When I said I absolutely did not have the money the price gor cut down to $1800, and I was told, if I was interested, I could apply for a Mavis credit card and apply for a line of credit up to 1500 meaning the "total price would only be 300 down today". Ladies, old folks who know how to use the internet, and other vulnerable populations. If you ever spend more than $1000 for standard brakes on a standard vehicle (in my case a honda civic), please run...don't walk to the Better Business Bureau because you are being absolutely scammed. When I told them I wasn't interested, I went to go back and get my keys they were relentless in insisting I needed new brakes and it was an urgent matter and my safety was in danger particularly because it was raining. The way they out ir, my brakes were an accident waiting to hapoen. They tried on last sales pitch and I drove all the way back to the city just fine. It's been three weeks and I'm still driving on these "life threatening brakes", I was able to get a quote from someone else who Told me it was going to cost me $400 to $600 (what I paid the last time I got new brakes several years ago). I will shout from the rooftops how absolutely terrible this place is. I've never had an experience like this in all of my years of being a car owner. One last thing as I reflect on writing this... there was actually a very young woman at the shop at the same time I was there and I could hear Her opening up a line of credit with them. I do not know what service she was receiving. But I would imagine based on the fact that she looked scared out of her mind by what she was being told by the mechanics they must have sold her on some urgent life-or-death situation too. Because it seems like they were upselling her like crazy. And I feel absolutely terrible for her. read more

I got a very scammy vibe from this place. I came in to have a slow leak patched in my tire. The guy told me I needed a new set of tires because this one had been patched too many times already. Fair enough, I did need new tires. So, he gives me a quote for a set of four Mavis brand no-name tires for my Honda Accord for $1000 installed. I want to do a little shopping around, so I ask him if he can print out that quote. He tells me he doesn't have a way to print it but I'm welcome to take a photo of the screen. That seems pretty fishy, right? I thought so. Anyway, I do some more shopping and learn that I can buy a set of well-reviewed Goodyears, installed, for about the same price. I brought the car in for a state inspection, ended up waiting 2 hours past the appointment time, then they finally put my car on the lift and informed me it it would not pass because it needs a brake job. The car still had 75% on pads. Thanked them for wasting my time and got my car inspected elsewhere. Never again. read more

0-STARS This was a very bizarre incident that happened. I'm not happy nor mad, at the point of walking out. I walked in, with a screw in the middle of the tire. Asked for a plug which is a 10 minute job and no longer, Well, the mechanic put the car on the lift, pulled the tire, removed the tire from the rim, and stared at the tire briefly. then he plugged the tire, put goop on the rim, and replace the tire onto the rim. Then balancing and spinning the tire on the machine, and then proceeded to put the tire back on the car. After doing all this, the worker moped around and finally delivered the paperwork to the main desk. The clerk was busy, and long talking, he finished... (paperwork still hanging) the clerk turned to another customer that was actually new in the door. I said, "hey, what about me?" The clerk got nasty, and continued to talk to the new customer. About a minute later, he goes, "here's your key!" I said, "free?" "YES" Quite honestly, I think I was being set up for a huge bill for just patching a hole in the tire? I plan to file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau that they're doing extra work to collect from the customer? read more

Never go to this place. They lie right to your face. I made the mistake of going in and getting my tier changed. They claimed that I was at 5% for my breaks. Little did they know that I had gone to the dealership the week before and had a complete review of my car, changed all the fluids and inspected. I didn't get the breaks and returned to the dealership. The dealership looked at the breaks and said that I had about a year before I needed to change the breaks. I used to go to places like Mavis, never go there. Only go to the dealership. This is a case of you get what you pay for. read more

This place is an absolute joke. Whenever you need service done, don't even try to schedule online to make an appointment. Third occasion I've tried now, where I've gone in and told them I had an appointment and it gets delayed because either somebody shows up to work late, or some other BS excuse. Very snaky attitude from the guys working there. These guys need to get their act together because their service sucks, along with their reputation and integrity. I picked up a nail in Ma. on my way back home to NJ. The tire pressure was holding until it wasn't. I was truly lucky to find this Mavis Tire at the last exit before crossing the bridge. Renesto sensed my anxiety and immediately had my car put up on the lift. The nail was removed, and the tire was plugged and inflated in record time. All at a reasonable price of under 40 dollars. 5 stars! read more

I trusted this Mavis location as I had frequented it in the past for oil changes and state inspections. Thus, when I was given a great deal for complete rotor and brake replacement ($300ish each for front and back), I took it over the Honda dealership's offer ($1000+ for resurfacing front rotors and replacing back brakes and rotors). However, in hindsight I should have gone with the dealers because getting the rotor and brake replacement at Mavis has cost me at least $400 in additional repairs and diagnoses since then. After I got the brakes replaced I started hearing strange noises when I accelerated. I thought it was something wrong with the transmission or gear box. The dealership found that the air filter cap had been left unscrewed. Keep in mind I had only brought my car to Mavis for a brake/rotor change, not to have anyone touch my air filter. Fine. $165 for a silly diagnosis paid. After bringing my car home to California, I had another inspection done at the dealership to find that one of the lug nuts had been stripped during the brake/rotor change. How much did it cost to repair (which involves them CUTTING the lug nut off because it can't be removed with their tools)? Another $230. From this experience, I unfortunately have to say that this Mavis location is neither a trustworthy nor accountable business. Save yourself the headache and get your car maintained at a trusted dealership. read more

I've had tires replaced here a few times, and I think they're generally reliable. The pricing is especially good when you just need decent tires on your vehicle. But we recently found that when we wanted a specific model tire on a newer vehicle (to match the other three) their pricing was similar to the dealer. Doing a price comparison before booking an appointment didn't hurt their feelings. It's also worth noting that you get exactly what you pay for - and nothing more. The last time we had a tire changed my wife was annoyed that they didn't check when the low tire pressure light still came on afterward. The notification would've been difficult for the tech to miss driving the car out of the garage. At any rate, if they would've taken a few minutes to look into it they would've discovered that a second tire had a nail in it, which might have been helpful to us and profitable for them. But again, we'd paid for a single tire to be changed, so that's what we got. Their availability and repair time is transparent as long as you make your needs clear. They've always been straight with me about when they are slammed and there is a long wait. When I last scheduled a wait-on appointment, they estimated 90 minutes and were done in an hour. The waiting area is a touch spartan, but then again it's a discount tire shop - not a Sandals resort. It is on a fairly desolate stretch of Route 9, but a shopping center with Bagel Emporium and Capri (pizza) are within reasonable walking distance for able-bodied humans. read more

I brought my Subaru that to Mavis in Tarrytown for the yearly inspection and was told that the rear shocks needed to be replaced in order to pass the inspection. They charged me $290.00 per strut plus labor and tax. Weeks later I took the car to a family mechanic because of some rear noise, and was told that the struts that Mavis installed, part # 2701-400447, are made by Autopart International and retail for about $100.00 each. I will file a complaint with the NYS DMV, Division of Vehicle Safety Licensing and encourage others that have been ripped off at Mavis to do the same. read more

Booked an oil change for a set time & ended up sitting in the waiting room for over 30 minutes. (& I got there 15 mins early) The least they could've done was come in & said "Hey, yknow, sorry but we're backed up. Just letting you know in case you wanna reschedule or stick around." I had a nail in my tire within the first few months of owning this vehicle and took it here. The guy behind the desk came out, determined where the nail was, checked all of the other tires to make sure this was the only one, and was able to get me in quickly. The charge was minimal and the timeframe was very quick. These guys got me in and out and made this issue a distant memory. Very nice and friendly the entire time, not sure who some of these negative ones are about but can't imagine this going any better. read more

I'd like to share my experience visiting Mavis this morning for an oil and air filter change. I made a 9am appointment, brought my own oil and filter, was given a 45 minute wait time estimate, and waited over two hours for just the oil change. While I waited, I stood outside and watched as the parking lot began to overflow. There was no room for cars to move in and out of the lot, let alone for technicans to move vehicles into the garage. Customers were honking and getting frustrated, and one (out of two) Mavis tech sat in a car for over fifteen minutes, trying to move it into the garage. One customer waited for about twenty minutes just to drive out of the lot. The only car blocking his was mine, but I didn't have the keys becuase I'd already checked in my car. I politely asked the Mavis agent behind the counter for my keys so I could move my car, but he said not to worry and he'd take care of it, which took about fifteen more minutes. At one point the parking lot was so chaotic that I felt compelled to guard my car so I could take pictures if someone accidentally hit it. Waiting patiently, I got to see how Mavis' people work. I watched for over two hors. I saw them throw bottles around the shop, thrown stuff at each other, move distractedly from car to car, generally taking their time. One of the techs, a young guy wearing black Nikes, didn't participate in these shenanigans, and seemed to be working hard and moving cars out one by one. After an hour and fifteen minutes, the tech who was working hard drove my car into the garage. He pulled in another vehicle at about the same time for an oil change and did them both at the same time. As he did this, he was fixing a third vehicle; maybe rotating the tires. This took about thirty minutes. Then my car sat for another thirty minutes with the hood up so I asked for a status update. The tech was waiting for an air filter delivery. Rather than tell me they didn't have an air filter in stock for my vehicle and that one was being hand-delivered, they just let my car sit in the garge, not informing me of the wait. I wasn't sure how long this might take and I'd already been waiting two hours and fifteen minutes, so I took the car without the air filter change. When I asked to settle up, the agent at the front desk tried to charge me 25% more than their usual fee. I asked if they'd raised prices and he said that was the normal price. I asked him to look up my previous transactions, and he agreed to drop the price back down. I don't think it's fair to blame the workers at Mavis for this disaster. There should be at least three technicians and two front desk agents working on busy mornings. The Mavis website should not book appointments for more customers than will fit in the parking lot. Keep in mind this was at 9am when the shop opened, and it's not like cars had already accumulated througout the day. I'm not sure where the best place is to get an oil change near Tarrytown, but I don't think it's Mavis. If you're wondering why this review is so long, it's because I had a long wait and lots of time to write it. Also, Sharon T. from Mavis Support, I do appreciate your efforts, and I already have your number because I read other Yelp! reviews. I thought I would take a shot at my own Mavis Corporate response to my Yelp! review since the previous replies were all the same: "HUDCAT We are very sorry for the inconvenience, and will consider staffing more employees at our Tarrytown location, rewarding employees who work hard, and only booking as many appointments as our staff and small parking lot can resonably accommodate. A corporate strategy that doesn't value employees or customers isn't working for us and we've taken that under advisement. Look out for the new Mavis where we understand that life is hard enough, that an oil and air filter change shouldn't take all day, and that corporations have to provide good service if they want to stay in business." read more

Mavis came up as the #1 result in my search for an oil change service near me, so I'm pretty disappointed in my experience. My regular mechanic was booked and I needed an oil change in a pinch. I called ahead and made an appointment for a 10:30am oil change on a Friday. I brought my car in and was told it would take an hour and 10 minutes - ok sounds good, no problem. I sat in the waiting room for over an hour and my car hadn't even been brought into the garage yet. I asked the guy at the front desk how much longer it would be and he said 30 minutes after it goes in the garage. I asked when it would he in the garage and he said he wasn't sure and apologized because they only have 2 technicians working right now. It was 11:45 and we were about to go into the lunch hour. Realizing it would be at least another hour if not more, I asked for my keys and left. They wasted more than an hour of my time, I wasn't going to let them waste my entire day. I understand it stinks to be understaffed, but the whole reason for making an appointment is to ensure the service gets done without a long wait. They should have told me when I called if they couldn't take it instead of wasting my time, and talked to me while I was waiting if they realized it would take longer than they thought, but I didn't receive that courtesy. I had bought tires here in the past and they were fine but wouldn't go here for any kind of service. read more

Absolutely terrible place. I recommend everyone go somewhere else because they do not fix problems with cars. Had to bring my car there 3 times to fix tires that were not put on properly. Had to bring my car in twice for an alignment and its still messed up. They took advantage of my wife who did not understand fully what they were doing and the expectation. They did work knowing the alignment was still going to be off because we need additional work that we weren't gonna do. They should have not done the work in the first place. Then they refused a refund on the last alignment work, they said they would give a free alignment if we got the other work done which will cost hundreds of dollars but thats the best they can do. Its a scam to get more money and they do not care about customer service. read more

Had an awesome experience at this Mavis on 10/26/19. Called at 4 pm to see if they had my brake pads in stock(apparently Kia Soul '18 front pads hard to get not at any local parts stores). Talked to Ryan who said come on in and they would put the pads in. They closed at 5 that day so I ran over there and they put them in right away. This was after an earlier in day 3 hour wait and no fix at another shop. I should have gone here in the first place. Ryan made it a great experience. read more

If I could give zero stars I would. First, I had a nail in my tire and called, made an appt. and waited about an hour and half and had to leave for work with no repair. I figured they were busy so I made another appt. for next morning. They got to my car pretty quick the next morning (only thing I can say positive). I had a nail and was told they only do patches which is suppose to be better than a plug. The tire was suppose to come off and patch installed with a newly balanced tire. Well they claimed on the bill that the patch was installed and that my tire stem/valve had to be changed at an additional $10. I am somewhat handy and know a little about cars ans noticed that a plug only was installed. The tire was never taken off the car in which a patch was oils be installed and the stem was the same. i went inside and spoke to someone and they looked nervous. The manager came outside and I showed him everything, the plug only in which the repair wasn't a patch, tire never removed for balancing and the st m was not changed. He insisted that I pay for the plug at $30 and he re-imbursed my credit card for the $10. This place is dog sh.t! Manager is a liar and thief who can't be trusted....i sensed he was playing people and upselling garbage and unnecessary repairs. Again I was in a rush to go to work and just paid to get out of there and just had to leave this review For others to read and know the truth. read more

I have had my car serviced here over the years and always had good service and a fair price. But my most recent experience topped any car repair experience I have had. My tire light went on. Two different gas stations filled the tires, but the light would go on again a few miles later, so I assumed at best I had a leak and needed a repair, and at worst a new tire. I stopped into Mavis and told them my problem. They put it on a lift, examined all the tires, determined the issue was an imbalance in air and fixed it - then said I didn't owe anything.
