I highly recommend Max Motors. Making an appointment was easy. I made mine online and I was confirmed a few hours later. I normally don't take any of my cars to a mechanic. I do most of my own work at home. I had my catalytic converter stolen and had Max motors install a new one. They did a great job and they handled all the insurance papers. Since they did a good job, I had them also take care of my air conditioning. Again, very pleased. I even got a call back to make sure all was working well. I will definitely take my truck back when I need to or refer max motors to friends and family. read more

Max Motors is the place to take your car. I took my car to the local Toyota dealership for a bad seal on my drive shaft. It didn't seen right 6 months later, i took it back to toyota, oh your driveshaft is bad $1500. F that. I took it to Avi on a recommendation, boy am i glad i did. It was a out of balance driveshaft. Cost me about 80% less then toyota. They also work on German cars as well, he keeps the parts to show you that the part is broken. I can't rave about these guys enough. Max Motors in San Carlos is the only place I've ever heard of, where ONE OF THE MECHANICS WILL ACTUALLY DROP YOU OFF AT WORK - even if you live as far as San Mateo or Palo Alto!!!!!!!! Yes, you heard that right, people. I'd never even heard of such a thing till I met these guys. Luckily I work just about 7 minutes away but if I move down the peninsula I'm still going to Max Motors. Joaquin is super nice and has driven me to work a couple of times. They will even pick you up if you need a ride back to get your car!!! Just wanted to say thanks to Ruben and Avy for fixing my Honda this evening. I was a little concerned about some strange burning smell coming from my car earlier in the day. After work, I swung by there and asked them for an opinion (I've been there a few times before, since they do my oil changes). Avy, Joaquin and Ruben all took a look under the hood of my car and set right to work trying to fix the problem(s). I'd put too much oil in, for one thing (Ruben took out the excess and filled it to the proper level). Then they found a crack in some hose connected to my radiator, and Avy made a call and he zipped over to another shop to get a replacement part for me. These guys are awesome, they are a really good team and every time I go there I see the same faces - Avy (the owner), Joaquin (been there a year and a half), Jorge (been there 7 yrs), Ruben (about 4 yrs) and Roberto (about 7 yrs). It seems like sort of like a family run business. Avy, the owner, is super nice and has been in the biz since 1984 (took over the business from his Dad). I had never heard of them because they are down a small street a few blocks from the San Carlos Home Depot - it's a street most people wouldn't go down (not in a bad neighborhood but it's just an industrial area). Well, one day one of their guys came by my office offering a great deal on oil changes, and it was too good to pass up. I was skeptical at first because I'd bought an "oil change package" before, from some other shop, and it turned out to be bogus, but not this place. The guy assured me they were just looking to let people know about their services and basically build up our trust. And build my trust, they did. I really like this place! The guys there are all super friendly and appear to be hard, honest workers. I never feel like they are being dishonest with me, and they will tell me if there's something that doesn't need to be fixed right away. They also give you an easy-to-read computer printout of everything that you may want to consider fixing (and of course they go over it with you and will give you the estimated cost of repairs, which so far have been very reasonable). I've had plenty of times where I've gotten estimates back from mechanics that I couldn't really understand or even read the oil-smudged printout because I couldn't decipher the person's handwriting, but not with this place. I had been so worried, driving in this icy weather to SF with car problems, but was so grateful to them for fixing my car tonight. If you want to check them out, just give them a call and ask them about their oil change special. I think it was just like $27 for 4 oil changes (plus the standard $3 oil disposal fee per visit). If you're looking for some good mechanics, I'd highly recommend this place! -----------------UPDATE 2/5/10: Hey Joaquin, Avy, Ruben, Roberto and Jorge - I know I haven't been in for a while, but I just wanted to say, your staff has given me so many rides...whenver I come in next, I have no problem with you guys using my car to run a quick errand, any day of the week! (Sounds like a pretty fair exchange to me - if you are nice enough to give me a ride, then SURE go ahead and borrow the car to drive a few blocks, I'm not gonna bitch about it). I've seen how far away you guys have to park your car (because there are so many customer cars taking up the spaces in the front) and it would be a ridiculous waste of time (for all of us) for you to have to keep walking back and forth to your car every time you have to run out to get a part or whatever. So you go right ahead. Just make sure you don't hit anything, and lock it so nobody steals my precious collection of Journey cassette tapes, and we're cool : ). read more

Max Motors has done all the work on our car and my work van for the last two years. They have done a spectacular job each time and delivered as promised. They check all the fluids, filters, belts and light bulbs each visit and replace as needed. Very Honest, Very Reasonable and they will give you a ride back to your home or work . A friend of mine recommended Max Motors to me after my car overheated on the Dumbarton Bridge on a Sunday morning (not fun, by the way). The tow truck driver took me there and I was able to drop my car off that day by leaving the key in a key drop with an explanation. Turns out my car needed a bunch of new things, all of which were no suprise to me - my car has 194,000 miles on it! It was expensive, but probably no more expensive than it would have been anywhere else. What was really great was that they drove my car around to check it out. They didn't just look at it and assume it was ok after replacing things. And the end result is, my car runs better than it has in years! There were a couple of annoying noises that I didn't tell them about that are gone now, and even the gas mileage is a bit better. A lot of details were taken care of that added an extra nice touch as well. The car was thoroughly cleaned, inside and out, the "needs service" light was reset, and the clock was even set for me. I'd asked for an auxilliary input to be added to my car stereo, but due to a manufacturer design feature/flaw, I would have had to sacrifice my CD player. Avy suggested getting a new stereo, which he had the shop down the street for him install while he was waiting on new parts. I'm absolutely thrilled with the stereo - it has all of the features I wanted and wasn't very expensive, even with installation. Even though he didn't install the stereo himself, it came through on the same bill, which made for ease of payment. Also, Avy kept all of the old parts he replaced, so I could see what bad shape they were all in. Again, no suprises to me - I knew my hoses were very old and bad (obviously since I overheated) - but it was a nice touch. I'll definitely go back, even though it's way out of the way for me. Max Motors has been very helpful with keeping our two high mileage 2001 Infiniti i30's running great, as well as my newer Infiniti G37. I haven't had any serious issues with our over 100,000 mile cars since going to him. Avy always gives us great customer service, and he and his team are highly skilled compared with the 3 or so other shops I tried. I came to Max Motors after getting a bad repair from a popular indie auto repair shop causing my car to overheat and break down. Avy explained how you have to take extra steps in this type of repair or else this can happen, and then he had our car running great, even after an overheating situation! I dropped off my car for an oil change and simple inspection. He said "should I check the plugs?" I thought why not. Better to know right? So I said call me if it needs to be done. I got a call.. nothing was said to be wrong. So I go pick up the car.. the bill was 240.00 for new plugs and an oil change.... I was.. WTF!?!? I didnt want new plugs! The oil change was 25 or so bucks but for my 2002 Volvo station wagon..I got high performance spark plugs at 40 bucks each AND the labor charges. The kid at the front back up the story the plugs were bad but.. my Volvo maintenance schedule said I had 15k more miles on them. He said he had an old Volvo maintenance manual. Oh i had a melt down.. he promised free work.. this and that... I just left. I was too pissed at them to even go back. read more

I can always get my car in when I need to, Avy will do everything he can to help his customers with any issue. The only thing I could suggest is if the car is there for more than a few days, it would be nice to get a phone call explaining what the status is and why they may need to keep it longer (I hate having to call and feel like I'm bothering them).
