Have been there for brunch and lunch. Welcoming staff and atmosphere. Had the omelette for brunch and it melted in my mouth. Did not try the pancake, but understand it was gigantic and probably needed to be ordered as a shareable with at least four people! Sorry I won't be able to do that now that they are no longer serving brunch. I had the Branzino for lunch and it was absolutely delicious. My wife and I were both really impressed with the food and service. This is not a place where you want to be in a hurry. This is a culinary experience. Won't go back ever because extremely poor attitude upon waiter and management. First, we went to eat the #1 rated chicken fried steak in town and were told (two different reasons by two different persons) that it was removed from the menu. Stirke One. A friend ordered duck but was served meat loaf. The waiter pulled up his computer and said it had meat loaf, when in fact all of us knew our friend ordered duck. When the meat loaf was brought to our friend the four other of us were almost finished with our dinner. Strike 2. The waiter was defensive, but polite, however, he and later a manager were never apologetic nor did they offer any compensation. Strikes 3, 4 and 5. Our friend eventually offered to take the meat loaf home to his wife and made a quick order for himself, as the rest of were then finishes with our dinners. read more

My daughter and I went here for lunch a couple of days ago. I had the "Moshi's part of mussels" they were very good. I would really like to have had some bread, but on the menu bread service was $10. I can't imagine anyone charging that much for some bread to accompany a main dish. The service was very good. I have no complaints here. As to ambience, it was very crowded that day and very noisy with lots of people talking many of them rather loudly and music playing over speakers. Unfortunately, the music was so loud that all you could hear was the "thump - thump - thump" of the bass. It would've been better without the percussive noises. read more

The bread and butter was fabulous. The chef makes his own butter! The spinach salad with roasted garlic dressing was a huge serving that we four women shared, and it was terrific. The roasted garlic gave it a unique wonderful flavor. The salmon was splendid with a delicious sauce. Next time I'm going to have the cheese board. The cheeses and condiments are on a cart just like in France. You go to the cart and pick out your cheeses and condiments. I highly recommend Max's Sister. read more

I was very much looking forward to eating here after reading reviews and enjoying all of Andrew's other restaurants. This experience was incredibly disappointing. Six of us had dinner on 4/29/26. It took an hour and a half to get our food. During that long wait, our server never checked in with us to update us, see if we needed anything, or apologize. The manager did not either. The food was average to below average. The octopus was tough and overdone. Tasted like it had been under a heating lamp for a while. The scallops were cooked okay- but over salted with a sauce that tasted like a milkshake and with glue-like potatoes- I think they were potatoes! Hard to tell as no real taste. Others in our party did enjoy the trout and chicken fried steak. I spoke with the manager afterwards and he was polite and somewhat apologetic and took my name and number- but not very responsive. I will not be back as so many other wonderful restaurants to go to in SA!! ... Thank you for your response John. But you should get your facts straight before blaming your customers for the shortcomings of your kitchen and staff. Our reservation was at 6:30pm. My partner and I arrived at 6:45 pm. We were 15 minutes late and not 45 minutes late. The rest of our party was there. If I had any second thoughts about trying your restaurant again- I certainly don't now. High class restaurants treat their customers with class and don't put the blame of a poor performance on the customers.. read more

I was discreet reporting it to the server, who removed it but didn't acknowledge it. The chicken fried steak was 75% batter and 25% steak. Overall, not likely to go back. Stopped in on a Friday night at 7 pm without a reservation hoping for a chance 2 seats at the bar and was pleasantly surprised to get a table. Staff incredibly attentive and simultaneously gregarious and polite. It was a treat to have someone come by our table after our water was poured asking if we wanted a fruit garnish (choices being thinly sliced wheels of lime, lemon, grapefruit, and mint sprigs). Our two cocktails from the bar were precise and delicious. I had the Max's Reviver and my dining companion had a slightly modified old fashioned with a clever name that I cannot recall at this moment but it was a homage to the drink, the restaurant, and neighborhood. The food menu is cleverly set up with all dishes for each course at a single price (appetizers, entrees, desserts) w a modest up charge for one beef dish. This menu really does have something for everyone with dishes running the gamut from haute cuisine to comfort food classics like chicken fried steak. My date started with a Caesar salad while I munched on a plate of onion rings with a spicy ketchup. I did encroach on the salad, which was made from excellent produce. There are restaurants where you leave about a third of the lettuce on the plate because it's just not up to par and places where each leaf is perfect - Max's Sister is the latter. I had the roasted chicken gnocchi special for dinner and my date had the sirloin with peppercorn sauce with frites ($5 up charge) - both excellent. My date has a gluten allergy and they were very attentive to it, confirming the peppercorn sauce did not contain flour. We didn't have dessert due to there not being a GF option available. The space seems to accommodate both large and small parties - we saw two groups of at least 8 doing some sort of celebrating. My only note is that we seemed to wait a while between our appetizer and entree, but I also suppose that suggests they are actually preparing the food and not serving plates that might have been prepped beforehand. read more

So happy to have the Weissman's back with another full service restaurant! Missed Il Sogno! Made pre-reservations before Max's Sister opened and did not disappoint! Interesting new menu and some of the long time servers back in action. Decor is basic but the food and service were stellar! The "Mr Juicy" chicken fried steak is still terrific! The braised short ribs flavorful and tender! Cannot wait to try some of the other dishes. Prices are very reasonable for the quality. Was our first time there and was very impressed with the atmosphere and outstanding hospitality and service we were very spoiled. We had a wedge salad with blue cheese, bacon and hard boiled eggs it was fabulous. We then had a chicken fried steak and baked chicken breast. Went with friends, food and drinks where amazing, had the braised short ribs, hubby had the famous patty melt and it was huge ,he only ate half, friends had chicken fried steak which was huge and a steak . We had apps pork belly , bread service which was almost burned on top, had two salads as well as dessert ,all which was very good, no complaints. My only complaint was the waiter was a bit to pushy about all his favorite meals I would say trying a bit to much. Service was good ,food came out quickly and hot. Felt a bit rushed . Our waiter took our leftovers to box them up and never brought them back . We didn't notice until we already left the restaurant, that was a bit disappointing is all. Overall good food . Absolutely fantastic dining experience tonight at Max's Sister! Our group was warmly greeted as we entered and we were quickly seated at the table. The decor and vibe were awesome. I loved the touch lamps at each table. Everyone loved their meals- the house made bread and butter service with is a must! We started with salads. I had the baby spinach salad with poached pears and candied pecans. The flavors were AMAZING and it was incredibly fresh! I'm normally a blue cheese girl, so looking forward to trying the wedge salad next time. I saw the wedge salad being served to a nearby table and it looked so yummy! I tried the branzino and the tenderloin steak entrees and was blown away by both. The fries that came with the steak were hot and crunchy and fantastic! We loved our cocktails too! I especially enjoyed the old fashioned! Our server was attentive and friendly, checking on us often and making sure we had everything we needed. I highly recommend the chocolate terrine for dessert-so rich and decadent! The perfect way to end an incredible meal. Max's Sister is my new favorite place to eat!
