To be completely honest, I had never heard of this place before. My friends and I were originally headed to Sonny's, but there was a two hour wait so someone suggested we try this restaurant instead and I'm glad we did. It was a 10 out of 10 experience overall. The service was fine but the food really stood out. I ordered the burger and fries which were surprisingly delicious. The chips and queso were also really good which says a lot since I'm not usually a chips and queso person. Prices were very reasonable as well which we all appreciated. My friend ordered the mini crab cakes and loved them especially because they weren't heavily breaded. Overall no real complaints except one of the lemon drops came out without the sugar rim that was listed on the menu and our server did not seem interested in correcting it. read more

I like to find new places to go with my retired teacher friends each month. After seven years, that is getting harder and harder to do. I actually used Perplexity and asked for a list of venues that would meet our needs. Then, I read more about them on their websites. I liked what I saw at Kerbey Lane. They had some unusual offerings and a large selection of gluten free choices. The restaurant sits right on 1604. There is plenty of parking in front of it. The dining room was clean and comfortable. At 1:30, when our group went, the lunch rush was pretty much over, and we were led to a large table in the middle. Our server was a cheerful young lady who knew the menu well and was very helpful. Her description of their nitro cold press coffee given to one of my friends enticed me to have one as well. It was very delicious. The coffee was strong and robust with a hint of sweetness from the vanilla cream on the top. They actually have this coffee on tap like beer. Several items on the menu caught my eye. I wasn't sure which one I was going to have until the very moment I ordered. My choice was their Kimchi Beef. It was a large piece of bulgogi flavored steak covered with kimchi, slivers of raw carrot, and other vegetables with a light sauce of some kind. It made me think of a Thai meat salad, although the meat wasn't chopped. It was fresh and delicious. I was pretty busy conversating with my friends, so I don't really know what all they had. I do know that one of them had the special green tomato BLT. She really liked it, but would have liked the bacon to be more crisp. It looked exactly the way I like it- especially on sandwiches. Another friend had a giant salad of some kind on field greens. She raved about it the whole time she was eating. I am pretty sure that everyone in our group enjoyed their meals. They have a broad menu and a separate menu for gluten friendly options , their most popular dish seems to be the steak frites so I got it and it was amazing I definitely want to return and try the salmon coconut curry. I met a friend for lunch here and we were both happy with the ambience, service and food for the most part. I had the harvest chicken with glazed brussel sprouts and thought it was pretty good. I tried different flavors of tea, though, and never found one that was to my liking. Kudos to the waitress who was super patient as I tried to find one that I thought was good. I was shocked that the SA Kerbey Lane restaurant was so much fancier than the two locations in Austin. The newly renovated modern and clean interior of the restaurant made for a great setting. Our server seemed a little disgruntled that we had a large party but she was very professional throughout the experience. The food was all delicious. Kerbey Lane was a staple for me throughout my college years in Austin - always reliable and tasty though the wait has gotten significantly longer since then. This Kerbey Lane is by the Rim but it can get a little difficult to find parking/you will probably miss a turn the first time you go. I highly recommend coming in around 10-11 am on Sundays to beat the brunch rush, it gets crazy packed here. Our breakfasts were delicious - I love the classic eggs Benny, my husband originally wanted oatmeal but the breakfast smell made him change his mind to a classic breakfast plate instead. I've always had just breakfast here. I'll need to swing by in the afternoon because the lunch/dinner menu looks interesting. The peppermint mocha was heavenly! It was the perfect hot holiday drink while on vacation. The pumpkin French toast was thick, moist, and very pumpkiny. Yum! Stopped by for breakfast at 9am on Mother's Day before our Blood Bank donation appt. One of the Season offerings was the FRIED GREEN TOMATO EGGS BENEDICT which is 2 of my favorite things combined into 1 dish, so I definitely had to order them. It's was only 9am, even tho it was Mother's Day, the restaurant wasn't busy yet and had plenty of open seating both inside and outside (they do have a great covered patio for those who like to dine outdoors) so I was extremely disappointed that the special wasn't available and opted for the Chicken Verde Omelet with choice of 2 sides (I opted for the black beans and sweet potatoes - both dishes I would order again on their own , especially the sweet potatoes as they were so good it almost made up for my disappointment on not getting the Fried Green Tomato Eggs Benedict! Almost... My boyfriend chose the Breakfast Platter which consisted of 2 eggs any style , two 1/2 size pancakes, choice of bacon, sausage or seasonal fruit. Unfortunately he ordered his eggs over easy and received over medium. Rather then send them back to be redone, he would rather eat them and not "complain" (in his words), but he actually does complain when he mentions he wasn't terribly happy with his meal. I said, if you'd have had your eggs redone you would've receive the meal you ordered and would have been happy (even tho it would've taken 2min longer to redo the eggs!). This is the 2nd time we have had breakfast there, the 1st time went off with a hitch, this time we had a couple hiccups but all in all I would still recommend this restaurant as they have a great menu, the food tastes great and the staff ( although slow at times) are extremely friendly and welcoming. And something high on my list of important things when dining out, they had an "A" health score! That is always first and foremost before I will try an establishment. If it isn't listed on Yelp before we go, when we arrive that is the first thing I check before we order anything at a new establishment! We popped in for lunch on Tuesday. It wasn't busy, which was nice, but I took quite a while to receive a welcome greeting and to be seated. It then took a while to have our order taken. Never a bad meal. The chumps giving less than 4-star reviews must be hungover or upset about the traffic around it (which is warranted). Comfort food but with a blend of unique ingredients like Mac n cheese with green chile sauce or the Howdy Burger with Waygu beef patties, BBQ sauce, cheddar, cole slaw, and pickled jalapenos. When I'm in Austin, Kerbey Lane was one of my go-to's. If you're expecting the charm of the original KL locations at this San Antonio location, you'll be disappointed. I tried coming a few other times when it first opened, yet the first time I was told that their online reservation was only working on certain days and I had to call. The second time I tried, I was not willing to wait 45 minutes for a table. I waited months, and on a weekday morning, knew that my chance of getting a table was high. I was able to reserve a table, and since my family didn't arrive right when the table was ready, I had to respond that we were on our way. When we arrived, we waited briefly for our table. The waitstaff was attentive, yet I wouldn't label it as friendly. My family placed their order, yet we brought in jackets and hoodies to stay warm since the restaurant was frigid inside. The coffee tasted okay, yet it nothing to rave about. My child was provided a kid's menu and colors, and this was one of the few times they weren't interested in it. When our food arrived, it was decent for a breakfast restaurant. I am sad that I couldn't order the Lemon Poppyseed pancakes I usually get at Kerbey Lane. I'm still not sure why they weren't available. I settled for Blueberry pancakes, which were good. I also ordered the Harvest Omelet. I'm glad I ordered a side of Hollandaise sauce since the omelet lacked flavor. My husband thought his meal was okay and the Chocolate Chip pancakes were good. My child didn't care for the black beans on their bean and cheese taco, and only ate the fruit. They've been raised on pinto beans in their tacos, so black beans were out of their comfort zone. If you want breakfast at Kerbey Lane, you could come to the San Antonio location, yet aside from knowing you were at KL, it could have been easily reamed with another restaurant's branding and you'd wouldn't know the difference. The ambience that made KL different is most definitely lacking in this San Antonio location. read more

When Kerbey Lane opened in San Antonio, I was looking forward to trying it out. I have great memories of the original Austin one with its excellent coffee and delicious pancakes. It took a while, but we finally were able to eat here. Located on 1604, it is easy to reach and has a very welcoming set up. It has a very open set up with lots of lighting. The servers were friendly and quick food. I had the Breakfast Platter, which included two half size pancakes, two eggs, and either bacon, sausage or fruit for $11.29. I felt the prices were a bit higher than I have seen for egg and pancakes in other spots. Also the portions were on the smaller side. The food was tasty, but this is not the Austin Kerbey Lane I remember. It did not have the iconic feel of the one in Austin. Driving down from Fredericksburg to see a show and we stopped in at our favorite Austin staple last Friday night! We got there 30 min before close and the host promptly and kindly sat us. I'm always excited to check out new spots that have opened up near me. This review dates back to about a year ago when they were first opening, but long overdue! They didn't have their new sign up at the time, but the place was clean and open, with a lot of customers. Staff did a great job at being accommodating and getting everyone seated in an orderly fashion. Service was quick as well. As for the food, unfortunately for me, it fell below my usual brunch and breakfast mark. Not bad, but definitely nothing worthy to notice. With competing aesthetic brunch restaurants, I'm more likely to go elsewhere considering my inner-20s self!
