After a collision with a rock on the freeway, my van was vibrating in a worrying way. A visit to the Honda dealer resulted in $700 bill for very little work done. On a recommendation from a friend I called Ed, owner of Maxed Performance and explained my concerns. He checked out the undercarriage of my van and found a baseball size rock wedged by the differential, which was causing the unusual vibration. The dealer never saw it! Or perhaps didn't care. I asked Ed what I owed him, and he said nothing! It is really uplifting to find honest mechanics, who do good work and charge an honest price. We have had a variety of German cars serviced by this business for over 20 years. BMW, Audi, VW and Mercedes-Benz. I recently decided to buy out my 2018 Mercedes 300C from the lease due to its overall reliable performance and safety. I took the car to Maxed Performance anticipating that it would need new brakes(exceeding 60,000 miles). Because they are honest, they shared with me that the brake linings still had 80% of brake pad remaining. No repair needed. Who else would have missed the chance to charge me for service I really did not need? Compared to the "factory" today I returned from an Appointment with Fletcher Jones M-B that they were supposed to extinguish a battery warning message from the on-board computer screen. I shared that Maxed Performance had done a diagnostic test and said that the battery was okay; three years old but did not need to be replaced for the present. Oh yes, Fletcher Jones was going to charge me $215 for this diagnostic test. From the initial call to dealing with the technical staff, I felt dishonored by FJ as a customer. I am coming back to Maxed performance for my Benz service; twice the courtesy, half the cost! read more

Ed has been my mechanic since 2010. I found out about this place many years ago on the VWVortex forums. The goal was to find a shop that catered to BOTH car enthusiasts and daily drivers, rather than one or the other. Frankly, I have a very low student budget when it comes to car expenses, but I still believe it's better to consistently go to a garage you trust, rather than shopping around for the lowest quote. Pricing has always been fair for what you are getting. The work is detailed and upcoming issues are always noted (if not just ask!). These guys know their stuff but are still quite down to earth for non-enthusiast. PS. A little trivia tidbit, this is a family owned business. So how did they get their name, Maxed Performance? My family and I have been going to Ed for 10 years, it is time that I finally write a yelp review. Maxed Performance has been great to our family, they always seem to make time for us when I call them, and once we get there they treat us with respect and don't jerk us around. They have never tried to screw us over money wise, and the service is usually pretty quick. They do pretty much everything for your car or truck (including engine work, tires, tune ups, oil changes, etc.) and do it well. They aren't gonna do things incredibly cheap, but they will do the job right and won't overcharge you. I took my Audi A4 here back in 2006 on a recommendation from someone who's been taking their cars to Maxed since they opened in 1989. My Audi needed A/C repairs and other repairs and Ed's quote was below quoted costs from the dealer and other shops. More recently I've taken my Mazda CX-9 for it's 60k tune up. The dealer told me I needed my breaks done, possibly shocks and the tune up, the cost was over $1,200 with the dealer. We called Ed and took the car in the next day. Turns out my breaks are fine, I don't need shocks and the 60k tune up was around $89! I was so relieved that my breaks were ok and the car didn't need the other work. We live in Mission Viejo, so Huntington Beach isn't in our back yard but it's worth the drive for great service. I completely trust these guys; their work was great, and even below the cost that they quoted me. We will be back!! read more

After being disappointed visiting a couple 'VW' shops in my area to look over my newly purchased VW Vanagon, I drove an hour to Maxed Performance for my van to finally have a proper inspection, based on Ed's solid reputation that you see here. Aside from diagnosing and discovering every quirk my van was in need of, Ed is never rushed, always picks up the phone, and is very patient to answer several questions. A VERY refreshing aspect of a mechanic, as most make it sound like a huge pain their ass for them to talk to you on the phone for a couple minutes. Although he discovered a big flaw with my transmission, requiring it to be rebuilt (was not expecting to spend that much), I'm VERY happy and grateful he was the one to catch it and perform the work. He made the whole process quick and easy, with a very fair price and industry standard warranty. The cherry on top, was one of my coolant pipes burst, dumping out tons of coolant, while he was moving the van in his garage (he had recommended I had them changed but I declined to do it myself), and he created a temporary solution and re-filled/bled my coolant system free of charge. I've since driven to Northern California a few times, and just got back exploring the Sierra's passing through 8-10,000ft passes, with no issues. I only wished his shop was closer to me! read more

As you all know, most auto repair joints are stereotypically dishonest or at best inconsistent. It is tough to find someplace you can trust wholeheartedly with your gas guzzling friend.
