Stopped here on a whim. Great outdoor seating and our waitress was amazing. Attentive and fun! Food was fresh and really good and the beer was nice and cold. Definitely some if the best Mexican I've had since moving from Phoenix. And my daughter devoured the fried ice cream. Great way to burn an afternoon. read more

I would highly recommend the chorizo nachos....the flavors were clean and refreshing. The shredded Beef Enchiladas with red sauce has a bit too much nutmeg for my liking...it has a good kick to it. The plating was perfect and very clean. I usually don't eat the beans when I order a Mexican dish but these were delicious! The complimentery chips and salsa were decent. The salsa has a smokey taste to it...youre not gonna get chopped onions and tomatoes in your salsa. But the taste was interesting (good). The service was also very pleasant. Great food. The shrimp taco was very flavorful. We were given chips and salsa when we sat down. The salsa had a hint of BBQ along with some heat. The pinto beans were served hot and creamy. There is plenty of use of queso fresco that helps to enhance the flavors. After our meal I was told they have hotter sauce. Tried it and it has great flavor but was not very hot for my pallet. I would caution others as I can stand a LOT of heat. I plan on going again. read more

We were visiting from Wisconsin and met some of our relatives there who live in Omaha and Iowa. We had eleven altogether. The food was very good and heard no complaints afterwards. Ok this time was not so good. I had the blue crab special and the crab meat was bad. They did offer to replace dish. To the man in the kitchen: Pick up the crab and smell it. Raw crab that is fresh will not smell at all, or will have a faintly sweet odor. Anything that smells sour, strong, fishy or rancid could mean the crab has spoiled and it should not be consumed. read more

We got the chips and queso, beef enchilada with mole sauce and chicken flautas. Queso was expensive, very bland and watery. Flour chips were too done. My son enjoyed his enchilada. I found the flautas very bland, did not seem to be any seasoning in the chicken. Got charged $2.00 for salsa when requested for my meal. Our waiter was very pleasant and attentive. Greeted by a sign that says we need a mask to enter, perfect, walked in with a mask on (just like we all have done for the past year) and I see 2 waitresses with NO masks on the ENTIRE time. I got glared at while i was sitting there, not sure if it was because I actually followed the rules and was wearing my mask or we're just pretty to look at... Went in there for lunch and it's honestly way over priced. They offered 2 tacos for a choice of rice and beans for $10.25... don't ever recommend!! Horrible service! Estimated wait time 45 minutes, actual was well over an hour. There is no organized system for getting on the wait list or how they give people tables. The waitress did take our order quickly but them we waited and waited and waited for our food and drinks. Had to ask for drinks after waiting 1/2 hour. Then the apps and main courses all came out together, an hour after the order was placed. That pretty much defeats the purpose of getting apps. The apps (the queso and the stuffed jalapeños) and the dancers were the best part of the meal. Both my drink and my entree were incorrect. When I pointed out the entree I was told it would be another hour to get it corrected so I kept the incorrect meal and my nice husband traded with me. The only thing that was quick was when 15 minutes after we got our meal they asked we were ready for the check! This is our second time eating at Maximo's. The first visit was awesome. We had a group of 8 adults. Food and drinks were great, place was packed on a Saturday night. So we came back this evening with our kids. The food was as good as the first time but the service was very, very slow. We had to request things twice, waited way to long to have to ask for refills on chips and drinks, etc. which was very disappointing as we were one of two tables It the restaurant. There's a true hidden gem in Elkhorn. My wife and I were truly impressed with our meal and evening at Maximo's! The outdoor patio was comfortable and friendly! I came back with my family. Margaritas are great. The food was just okay. But prices are crazy high for what you get. The server told me the special. A taco (street taco, small just meat tiny bit lettuce) tamale (pork but one strip of pork 1/2 size of a pencil) and a street taco size tostada. All 3 were about $3 al a cart. On my bill $19!!!! We had dinner here just tonight, Tuesday July 23nd. We received the worst service I have ever experienced. We got there waited twenty minutes for someone to take our drink order. They only brought two of the three drinks, ended up waiting another twenty for the last drink. Waited over an hour for our food- which the appetizers and the main came out together. So we didn't even get to enjoy the appetizer. They kept saying they were busy but I counted seven open tables around us and waiters just standing around. I have never given less then a 20% tip but tonight I just couldn't do it. Worst service. Visited tonight to give it a try since our usual Mexican favorite is temporarily closed. The chips and queso was really good so we had great expectations for our entrees. Unfortunately it was disappointing. I ordered beef nachos. They barely had any cheese on them and they were covered in this weird ultra shredded lettuce and a verde sauce - both of which were not mentioned on the menu. I had a couple of bites and that was enough. Another had the chicken enchiladas and said the chicken was dry and was unseasoned. Another had the beef enchiladas which sat in a pool of grease. Finally, another had the carne asada and said he's never had a steak that wasn't seasoned at all. I'd like to be able to say "but the service was great" but I can't really say that either. read more

After being seated and waiting over 5 minutes for our waitress we were finally able to order a drink. Ordered a house margarita, on the rocks...no salt. 10 minutes later margarita arrived WITH salt! Sent it back...waited another 10 minutes for the right margarita. We ordered our food. Eventually food came out but the server tried to serve it to the wrong table! Ordered another margarita on the rocks, no salt. Again it came with SALT so had to be sent back. My husband had asked for additional salsa to go with his meal...never got it! I had requested a side of sour cream...never got it! Food was mediocre. Rice was dry. Maybe we were just frustrated about the incredibly bad service but it is not a place I am going to be in a hurry to go back to! read more

Wow! New favorite place HANDS DOWN! I still love the shrimp tacos from the first time I went. My husband is very fond of the margaritas. ;) The enchilada sauce is delish! I love that they are so sensitive to everyone's dietary needs. If you are gluten free, no problem. They will make your enchiladas with a corn shell instead of flour! What a delightful surprise in old downtown Elkhorn. We went on a Saturday evening about 6:30. We didn't have to wait but we got the last open table. The food was delicious. Very authentic tasting. I got the chicken enchiladas. Lacey, our very attentive server suggested getting them with cheese sauce. Queso fresco was sprinkled on the enchiladas and black beans. Yum! My husband got the trio of enchiladas with beef, chicken and seafood. He enjoyed all three thoroughly. My daughter had fish tacos were excellent. Chips and salsa marginal and 99c extra for more chips only. Not enough salsa. Enchilada mole sauce had good flavor and nice spice. Nice inside/decor. Service was fine. Rice was a little dry. LOVE Maximo's!! Went there for the first time on a Friday evening and sat on the porch. The food was really really good. I had the mix of enchiladas and my pals had the seafood special that looked great and tasted great according to my pals. We had the Torta, which I would not have again. Not their fault. ..I should have asked more questions as to what it was. Was nothing I expected or wanted. Was a huge sub sandwich....not my idea of Mexican food. Way too much bread for me yet the inside ingredients were tasty. I'll give them another try because why not?? We are a party of 4 who came here because of the good reviews online. The drinks were ok and the ambiance was good enough. But the food was pathetic. The tortillas were microwaved or dried out from sitting under some heat. The chicken tasted like it was microwaved from the night before. The sauces were not good. Food not hot. Need I say more? Did not get all our sides just to top off the evening. The bill came to $100. I will never eat here again. I am not bad mouthing this place as I m not from here. It is not Mexican food.
