    Chicken Cheesesteak

My bf loves this place. Whenever in Philly he has to come. Last time they were doing construction. So he couldn't wait. They're consistent in his mind. Solid. Good flavor. Make it just the way he likes it every time. Good flavor. The place was empty because of the rainstorm. The service was fine. In and out. I haven't seen the guy that used to be there with no teeth. But you know what you getting when you come here.

BRING AN APPETITE. Spent the weekend on the Jersey shore fishing and relaxing and who pass by Phila and not stop and get steak and cheese hoagie....Not me!! We stopped at Max's Broad and Germantown, local spot with a bar connected for spirits. The place was not crowded at all so we were able to place our order pretty quickly. Whatever you do, do not ask for everything on it...because the queation will be what's everything!!! BE CLEAR, and indicate by item what you want on your sandwich. If you can eat for three to four people by all means order the large....if however you cannot recommend the half. How do I know, I ordered the large. Yhe sandwich was cut into four sections, I ate one section and was DONE!. REAL STEAK, FRESH CONDIMENTS ETC. Absolutely worth the trip. The challenge was staying away for the journey home.

So glad our friend brought us to experience this gem in Philly! Seems off the beaten path and not the typical places you hear about when you're visiting Philly and looking for a cheesesteak sandwich but don't let that deter you! First thing to note is that they are CASH ONLY. They have an ATM but I recommend bringing plenty of cash. Waiting area can get cramped when they are busy. It's pretty narrow so sometimes you might have to wait outdoors. These sandwiches are HEFTY! Check out my photos and videos. Definitely come with an appetite and be ready to either share your meal or have leftovers. There are different meat options, you can add cheese, peppers, sauces, etc. No cheese whiz unfortunately. They have drinks you can purchase at the counter, as well as a bar in the back. The vibe here is great, with classic hip hop and rap from the 80s/90s when we were there. Fun fact, this place was featured in Creed!

Max's is one of the best spots for a cheesesteak in Philly, but you must go at the right time. I was visiting from Texas and was told by multiple people that I NEEDED to try Max's, but specifically not to go at night. I stopped by shortly after 1pm, and there were only a few people ahead of us, so the wait wasn't bad. I ordered a large cheesesteak with onions and mayo. They cook unseasoned meat, so I highly recommend adding seasoning or condiments when they ask! The customer service wasn't bad, but they didn't put much effort into it. Overall, it was a great experience. Considering how comically long their large sandwiches are and that they cost only $24, it has to be the best bang for your buck in Philly!

My husband went in to order a cheese steak and met with rude service. He couldn't really hear the people while they were trying to cook at the same time and the ordering wasn't streamlined. Regardless the price was good since it was $12 for a cheese steak and not like $20 like most other places. We took it home to eat for lunch. The bread is soft and hot soggy from the meat and cheese piled in. They put a ton of ketchup and mayo ? Which was odd but worked! The meat is not seasoned and my bread was falling apart. Not the best cheese steak but the price is good atleast.

This is our go to whenever we are in the area. When we were there Wednesday, I had my daughter order five cheesesteaks with American cheese, fried onions, sweet peppers, mayo, mustard, ketchup, salt and pepper!!! My goodness!!! The absolute BEST! So good we couldn't just eat half no matter how hard we tried. Will be stopping by again this coming week to grab enough to eat them and bring sone back home to Maryland!!! Service is fast and efficient and the ambiance is exactly what you would expect! Do yourself a favor & pay them a visit. You won't be disappointed. I promise!

We got the wrong order but the cheese steak we got was good! We aren't from Philly - and was not aware that a whole is a whole damn baguette. It's so big! Thankfully four of us shared one so it was it didn't go to waste. Would I come back.. yes!

Ok...Here we go! Of course being a Born & Raised Philly Resident I am familiar with Max's! I would frequent more often when I lived closer..so it has been many years since I have had a cheesesteak from here! I had a friend from out of town so they requested a visit! I took them to the other popular destination that starts with a 'D'...they weren't impressed! The lines are definitely longer than I remember...from start to finish I would say it was a 45 min wait! The vibe once inside is you specify do you want a whole new or half! Once cooked you will be given the opportunity to add; condiments and toppings! Everyone in line is patient and you just know the wait will be worth it! The long roll is soft and absorbs the flavors of the grill and meat so nicely! So my friend got the cheesesteak and I got the chicken cheesesteak on my half! I think it is worth it to get 2 half's ...you can definitely fill up on the 1/2! This is Cash Only..but there is an ATM inside! Keep Going Max's! Still a neighborhood gem! decided

Came back here this time to give them a try since I left soon after entering the last time I attempted to order. I know I don't order the typically cheesesteak but fundamentals are just that. No cheese on mine but the meat should still shine (bars lol) The meat wasn't seasoned and it really thought it would be. Don't know if I needed to ask for more onions or what but I tried it on its own since this "half" was ginormous and there was plenty spilling out, which I loved. Fresh jalapeños, black pepper, seasoned salt or something was missing. The atmosphere was giving an only locals vibe but welcoming. I chatted with the bartender and some patrons. It was also early in the day. We would have stayed to watch the game but not all of their TVs were working. Funny thing, I'd go back but I'd definitely add some black pepper to it.

Was ok.... The plus is that they give you a lot of food so you will not leave hungry. I like that it's a local, neighborhood 'down-to-earth' type of vibe. Very 'hole in the wall.' As an out of towner they were patient with the ordering process as myself and the person I was with were clueless, lol. You can tell they're used to being very fast-paced. We each ordered a different type of cheesesteak to try (I ordered one with chicken and my sister ordered one with steak). We split them both so we could try them. This could have been due to miscommunication, but they were just ok... when we ordered (and after we paid) they asked what toppings we wanted and advised that veggies are an extra cost. They could have advised this when they were taking the order... so we skipped as we were low on actual cash and didn't want to pay more ATM fees to take out more for two toppings (cash only establishment). I also could have used extra cheese for the cheesesteaks. Bartender was super friendly though. As stated before... yes, it's very 'hole in the wall.' However, the booths on the bar side are not ideal. You can barely fit in them and can feel every move the person sitting behind you is making. My sister and I are short and each weigh about 135lbs. The space between the seat and the table were so narrow that our 'you know what's' were basically sitting on the table with the table almost at each of our ribs. The bathroom could also be way cleaner. I'm open to trying a different Philly and sitting at the actual bar in the future. Was definitely an experience.

But once you arrive you're transported to a good sized indoor/outdoor brewery space that uses all of the space that it has to perfection. Definitely check out their calendar to scope out the vast amount of food trucks that they play host to throughout the month. but other events might include an open mic night, yoga, or bands playing during vendor markets. We decided on it because of, aside from the great food, a private parking lot and outdoor seating. We went on a Saturday evening. The weather was beautiful out (not hot for a summer night-thank goodness!) so we wanted to sit outside. We were seated and decided on starting with the caprese salad and we each ordered a bourbon espresso martini. The drinks were wonderful! The salad was so good and so fresh! A perfect summer appetizer! I ordered the pepperoni pizza and my friend ordered a pasta dish. They make their pasta and you can alway tell when a restaurant does because it's so delicate and delicious! The server who brought out our food told us about the hot honey they had that goes so well with the pepperoni pizza so he brought us each out some to try. I've had it before other places but his kindness and excitement at wanting us to try it was so kind. And it was great with the pizza! A solid restaurant with wonderful food that I will continue to visit!

We were able to be seated right away, but why have reservations online if they don't work? We were seated outside , and it was lovely. It wasn't loud, and It was a great atmosphere. The waiter came over and took our drink order. We got our drinks right away. We also ordered bread with oil and butter. My friend ordered a pizza and told the waiter, no pepper on the pizza. I ordered a pasta dish. Another person came out with my friend's pizza, but we hadn't even gotten our bread and butter yet!! The pizza had pepper on it. Besides the fact that they served the pizza with the pepper that she didn't want , there were two things wrong with this. 1. You serve the bread and butter first. 2.You bring both meals out at the same time; you don't serve somebody's meal first. We finally got our bread and butter. However,I had to wait so long for my meal that we had to wave the waiter over and tell him I didn't get my mail yet. (meanwhile my friend is eating her pizza. ) He says this is a free-flowing kitchen, and my meal will be out soon. My meal comes out as we were speaking to the waiter. The food was very tasty. The drinks were excellent! The prices were reasonable and the atmosphere was nice. The service could've been better.

For the next show we will be going early and eating onsite to fully enjoy all Cresta has to offer. We will also make sure to sit on the 3rd floor rooftop level to enjoy the view where the very large windows are opened to enjoy the fresh air when Mother Nature cooperates. Back to to the food and drink. The cocktails are unique, gorgeous and delicious. Each one crafted with garnishes like fresh orange peel and pineapple leaves. Cocktails can be ordered with sugar, salt, or tajan on the rims. I highly recommend the apple cider margarita and the La Kartina hibiscus cocktail. The photos don't even do them justice. I ordered the plantains, deconstructed veggie tacos and a side of Al pastor chicken. I also had a side of the guacamole. The guacamole was so fresh and flavorful and I loved the cheese added to the top. The chicken was flavorful, well seasoned and very colorful. The plantains were the perfect level of sweetness. Now, about that the art! I loved the decor and art. The art around the restaurant and the tshirts employees wore were designed by a bartender who I didn't get to meet. The murals were so colorful and detailed. One was more beautiful than the next. I found a very cool selfie mirror on the 2nd floor that I loved! The artist's insta handle was on the wall as well and is included in my photos. We split some guacamole and chips both of which tasted homemade on the spot, and while I had the shrimp tacos, my wife had the chicken empanadas. Both meals came out quick and were really good. I added some of my guacamole to the tacos, and the empanadas were full of chicken and were underneath an avalanche of lettuce and sour cream. Both meals were more than filling with the chips and guacamole. We made it to our show without any problems. It seemed that others were doing a pre-show dinner, too. We joined them and ordered sangria $7 and a a special pink margarita the happy hour drink of the day for $9. Michelle gave me a choice of red or white sangria, and when I chose the red she said she was a little short on mix so she filled it in with rum, I believe. She put edible glitter in the drinks and kept us well entertained. The red Sangria was extra boozy but not really sangria-ish. Knowing we needed something to soak up the alcohol, we ordered food right away. The happy hour menu includes grilled poblano chicken tacos for $11. I was able to request corn tortillas, hooray! These tacos were a great value. Chopped mild tender chicken breast , pickled onions (sweet), with cilantro, cotija and an excellent crema (greenish). Homemade chips were obviously fresh and tasted and crunched quite excellent. Husband chose the $12 chicken quesadilla plate. It was fat with cheese and meat, and came with a big salad garnish, jalapeno and pickled onion. This place can really cook! Although it's a corner dive bar they have a real chef, excellent food and value. At some point I concluded I needed a second sangria and went for the white one. I don't remember much else but fortunately I took good pictures and notes of our visit. This is a very cool local bar with great chow and reasonable prices! We were in and out for under fifty bucks. Not bad for two filling meals and three drinks. Take a chance and drop in!
