This was my 1st time ordering food here and unfortunately I'm not going back. The heavily scented candles make it smell like a perfume store in there. There was one at the front desk upon entering and one in the back as I remember. I have never been to a restaurant before that uses heavily scented candles. I could smell the heavily scented candles upon entering and while waiting for my food to get ready. For some people this may not be an issue but if one has allergies then this is a problem. Honestly, I feel this is not a good idea for a business, especially a restaurant. The employees may like the scented candles but it can push customers away! read more

Visited this Thai restaurant for the first time and it is amazing! I got their Green Salad Rolls which was the perfect dish in this summer heat, freshly made and delicious especially with the peanut sauce. The employees were delightful and have good customer service, the ambiance is also nice. Definitely come visit this place when you have the chance! read more

I've lived in Alameda for about a year now and by far May Thai is my favorite restaurant on the island. My go-to dishes are the special Crab Fried Rice. I feel like it would be a fan favorite for anyone who enjoys seafood. The vegetables and crab are well seasoned and delicious. My alternative choice and recommendation is the Beef Pad See Ew but you couldn't really go wrong with any of the meats. The chicken is great, the shrimp is great. No wrong choice there. You have a big portions for good prices. I'm not a huge eater, so I always have leftovers unless I'm feeling especially hungry that day. I am a regular customer usually coming in maybe once every two weeks or once a month at least. The customer service is so wonderful. It is a small staff and I've done my best to learn their names. They are always courteous and kind. I'm always excited to eat their food and May Thai is my go-to for when people visit and want to eat on Alameda. I recommend highly!! read more

Just tried May Thai Kitchen for te first time. The food was excellent with decent portions and appealing presentation. Service was attentive and prompt. Sauces were flavorful but not overwhelming. My son who recently traveled to Thailand, was with us. He said the food was much like the street food in Bangkok. read more

We dined here last year and again a few days ago. Food is fantastic! I've had the pineapple fried rice with shrimp and Pad Thai. Others in my group had pumpkin curry and a dumpling appetizer. I hope to return before I head back to Arkansas! Oh, and that Thai iced tea is fabulous! read more

The coconut lemongrass soup, parang chicken and grilled trout were all fine and fresh. But all too sweet for my taste.

We ordered take out for Mothers Day and it was my first time trying food from this place. The best dishes out of the five we ordered was the pad thai and the mango sticky rice. The pumpkin in the pumpkin curry was under cooked. The pad see eww noodles weren't really shaped as noodles but big pieces of clumped rice sheets and it had american broccoli and not chinese broccoli so points were knocked off there. My aunt also mention that the eggplant in the stir fry was undercooked. There were a lot of carrots and american broccoli in all the dishes and I just didnt really care for them since they're huge fillers. Carrots were prettily shapes but in inconsistent sizes so majority were also undercooked. Thinking back, the mango was unripe and probably perfect for dipping in pepper. Take out menu and website pricing are outdated. The spice level was on point. read more

This place is a lovely gem of a restaurant. I went today after seeing the reviews. Service was wonderful. The food came fast, piping hot and each entree beautifully plated with orchids. The serving size of the entrees were large. (I love leftovers!!!). The important stuff. The food is DELICIOUS! I can't wait to go again. My first time here i ordered to go. Just got the pad kee mao / drunken noodle with chicken. Really good stuff here, packed with flavor and seasoned perfectly. I asked for medium hot and the spice level was spot on. All the components of the dish were executed well. You open the box and get the aroma of the basil and spices, etc. it really makes you hungry!!!! No complaints here i will have to go back and try a lot more stuff. Slightly on the pricey side but the portion was pretty big though so no problem. I didn't dine in but the restaurant appeared to be nice and clean. This review is for their takeout service last night. Ordered four items at 6:30 pm online. Came in at 7 pm to pickup order. It was not ready. Check in with staff every 15 minutes. Said it was coming. But I only see customers in restaurant getting their orders. In the end, I did not get my four dishes and out the door until 8 pm. My orders were completely missed. Not coming back here. Don't ignore the customer. Let them know what is going on. read more

Came here on a random Sunday evening over the 4th weekend. Did a Yelp search for Thai in the area and this came up as our second choice (our first wasn't open), so glad we came here instead. Love the variety on the menu! First off, the portions are HUGE! For two people who eat for 4 lol, we couldn't finish everything we ordered (and we almost always do, esp with Thai). We ordered the Lao papaya salad which came with chicharones/pork grinds and noods, so tasty and satisfying. Green chicken curry, perfect flavor and the pad see ew, soooo good. Food and service are spectacular!!! We traveled to Oakland for work last November and again this past week. When we came the first time Chef PP graciously greeted us. We loved the food so much we had to try it again and just like the first time, they did not disappoint. On a traveling time crunch we called ahead and Muna was delighted to serve our party of 10. They were so dedicated to hospitality that they worked right through their lunch break. :( We were humbled and grateful and very, very full. Well folks I don't do a lot of reviews but I do if they're really bad or really good. And this one was great. So let's start out, a little hole in the wall restaurant very very clean, kind of unassuming. Came in with a party of eight and was greeted by a very enthusiastic hostess. She quickly rearranged the restaurant to fit our party in and we were quickly served water, menus, and offered appetizers. The appetizers we had were the chicken wings, by the way very very good great flavor, and not the tiny little ones you get at the bar restaurants. Also spring rolls which had a phenomenal garlic sauce to dip in. Each of the persons in my party ordered something different and we kind of shared family style with some special side dishes for some. I had the seafood eggplant stirfry and I cannot tell you just how good it was. It was a gorgeous plate with ample food , lots of seafood, muscles, octopus, shrimp, fish and very tender scallops, and I ordered the medium heat, just enough where you know you are eating Thai food, not set your boots on fire and your have to wipe your brow. Fantastic. Pineapple rice, really good, not dry,not sticky. Beautiful color and flavor. We had the seafood soup Tom Yum. It was great. And I mean it. The flavor was amazing. Tried the pad Thai, the Pad See Ew, and was really surprised at just how flavorful each was and just how different each was. Finished the meal with Butterfly Lemon tea,I was shocked at just how good it was, and with the mint it cooled off the heat of the meal without haste. So I'm closing with if you're In The area and craving Thai food you should really try it. The waitress was also great to interact with. My new Favorite Thai place in Alameda. The pictures of the food look great, but the food tastes better.

One of my family friends recommended this place and said it was the best Thai food they'd had so I had high hopes for this place. Unfortunately our experience wasn't as great. We went on a weekday for dinner so it was quite slow. We ordered the lamb chops, side of rice, and pad see ew. The lamb and pad see ew came out lukewarm which was strange considering we were 1 of 3 tables. The lamb was seasoned a bit inconsistently- some parts had too much salt, and other parts weren't seasoned. The vinegar dipping sauce helped add flavor though. The lamb also came with some veggies, but the potatoes were undercooked. The pad see ew didn't have enough flavor for my liking. It wasn't sweet enough or salty enough. They forgot to give us the rice so we had to ask and remind them. I really wanted to like this place, but our experience wasn't great. Maybe we ordered the wrong things? read more

I made an online delivery for a chicken pad thai and a crab fried rice. Picking it up was swift and smooth with no problems, but once we got home to eat, the crab fried rice didn't taste right as usual. We gave them a call and told them what the issue was and they let us change the fried rice to a different item on the menu without any problems or extra charge. On top of that once I went to pick it up, they also remade another batch of chicken fried rice to make up for the inconvenience. I really appreciate the amazing customer service and the employees going the extra mile even though they didn't have to. They care about providing great service to customers and have delicious menu options if you're craving Thai food. Definitely will continue to order food here! read more

To be quick and to the point: the dishes we got were not very flavorful, not at all spicy despite ordering "hot" and "thai spicy." My dish, which should have otherwise been vegan, came with egg in it (not in the item description on the menu). And, to make matters worse, both my partner and I felt sick to our stomachs the next day. No idea why the reviews are so great. This review is long overdue. BF and I met up for early dinner not really knowing what we were in the mood for so we went to Alameda and started Yelping. Stumbled on this little place right as they opened for dinner. We've never heard of it so of course I had to yelp it. I think at the time, they've only been open for a few months. We ordered the crab fried rice and chicken with yellow curry sauce and I remember us saying that it was quite pricey for fried rice, but ordered it anyway. It was the best crab fried rice we've ever had! No imitation crab meat, and they did not skimp on it. The curry was tasty, but I swear I could've eaten that fried rice with nothing else. Absolutely great! The staff was very friendly and did a great job at serving us well. If something didn't happen as fast as we'd hoped, they apologized and recognized the delay, instead of making excuses for it. I appreciate their genuine nature and desire to make things better. The food was really good! Soup, appetizers, mains, and the dessert, everything tasted fresh and seasoned well. My one and only negative was that the beef was slightly over cooked in my pad see ew, but I didn't care too much because the owners (I presume the owners) were so great!!! The food can be pretty good, but they get backed up very quickly. For any takeout orders or DoorDash, often times the store keeps delaying the orders and it takes 4 dashers to go there and the store turns them away and you can never reach May Thai by calling them. Mailbox is always full. This has happened twice. I would recommend other Thai restaurants. read more

I stopped by randomly for some authentic thai street food, I was surprised with a warm welcome from the staffs, super friendly, they have a lot interesting dishes and I ended up to order the grilled lamb dish, seem like a good deal (compare with a lot of different places), more surprise when the food came out, 6 tender racks of lamb and a lot of vegetables, I was so excited to try it out and forgot to take some picture (my bad), they grilled it perfectly, super tender and flavorful, highly recommend it, then I ordered the roti with vanilla ice cream, so delicious (I only have an empty place picture to prove my word) Then I ordered crab fried rice for togo, and again it didn't disappoint me at all, it was super flavorful, especially combine with the sauce that included, this the best crab fried rice I have ever had.
