Excellent Thai food! This was the best pad thai I've had since I was actually in Thailand. The restaurant itself is fairly casual and the servers are friendly and attentive. Maya Bay is the best Thai restaurant that I've had in Toronto. Yes, better than that one. And that one. Their flavours are crave worthy. My go-to dish there is the khao soi which comes with a generous amount of beef chunks. They don't skimp on the meat and the spice. The pad Thai is beautifully covered with a thick tamarind sauce that makes the dish not too dry and not too saucy. When I ordered with shrimp, it came with 6-7 large ones. I recently tried the karee soft shell crab and was not disappointed. The combination of the crunchy crab and the golden curry was amazing over rice. The larb was as advertised. SPICY. This place is a 6 minute walk from my front door and has become a real favourite of mine. Not only is the food incredible, service always friendly the portion sizes are very generous. Have encouraged a few friends in the neighbourhood to check it out and they have also been impressed None of that ketchupy tomato saucy pad thai served here it's delicious tamarindy, shoosh I know that's not a word. I love it with crispy pork belly another fave is Tom Yum noodle and again with pork crispy pork belly, I can't help it I love crispy piggies. You have just got to try the Leng Saap (pork bone soup). The latest restaurant taking up the corner spot at Carlton and Parliament is Maya Bay. There is no shortage in Thai food restos around this part of town with Maya Bay being the latest to tempt our pad tastebuds. I would have hit them up a few more times already, but I'm doing my due diligence by trying all the different establishments before returning. The stand-out for me is the lunch menu. It's a trifecta of Thai goodness! You get the main, a soup, and a roll. For a lunch special the portion is outstanding as well. The first impression going inside the restaurant is that it smells and looks clean and well kept. It's new, of course, but regardless, there's an impression of care and attention to detail. I was curious when I first found out about this snack bar a year ago and haven't gotten the chance to try them out until recently. I ordered their Pad Thai Maya Bay and cheesecake. Although the container doesn't look too big, they packed a lot of food in that container! It was flavourful and had a fair amount of chicken and tofu. One portion was more than enough for me, it was equivalent to two meals for me! Their cheesecake was great also, but the mango was a little crunchy which isn't their fault as it's beyond their control. I would definitely return to try other items on their menu! read more

Spring rolls were just ok but personally a veggie spring roll is just a good app, you know? A little bit out of the way for me, so would get again if I was in the area but wouldn't travel for it. What a great new gem in Cabbagetown! Unlike the snack bar that was here before it, the flavours of the food at Maya Bay are flavourful without being overly salty. The Khao Soi here is perhaps one of the best I've had in Toronto, and their salted egg yolk fries are seriously addictive. * * I love soft shell crab! This burger has a whole crab in it but while the burger sounded amazing, the execution lacked. Granted, the bun was squished and soggy from the container by the time I got it home, but it just wasn't a great bun (would be far better on a brioche), and the pickled carrots & daikon lacked tang and flavor - more acid would balance the fried crab. Also there were waay too many raw white onions in it (whyyy ). 6/10 BUT - GET THE FRIES & WINGS! Salted egg yolk fries were a ridiculously awesome combo, and the Tom Yum wings were huge and flavorful, I'm still super crispy despite sitting in the car!! 9/10 for both. A friend recommended this new Thai restaurant so we needed to come and check it out. We ordered a few dishes but the Karee Soft Shell Crab and Salted Egg Yolk Fries were definite must order. All the dishes are unique compared to other Thai restaurants around the GTA. The vibe of the restaurant is similar to a local Thai market especially if it is a hot day. There is no patio but they have take out the windows for a patio like feel. It is located in Cabbagetown with convenient parking on the side streets as well as easy access via TTC. I came here many times with different group of friends I did notice they changed up the salted egg yolk fries since they opened. It's good but during the restaurant launch it was the best. Chef Art wanted to play with the beautiful diversity that exist in our city. He impart various cuisine styles and mingled it with Thai essence. The iron chef menu !!! Smoked Shrimp Ceviche Must get What a smoke show. Must get this, taste great. A dish that will impress the crowd. Pani Puri Indian mixed with Thai flavour absolutely amazing. Beautiful texture. Som Tum Chicken Wings Crunchy juicy spicy. Great flavour profile, I wouldn't recommend it to people who are afraid of heat. Tom Yum Linguine w shrimp Okay at first I questioned this dish but it actually worked out. The flavours great. The noodle is perfectly Al dente. Gaeng Som Kimchi Jjigae This dish is controversial, I love Korean food. And Korean food has a very distinct flavour. A bit sour a bit bright and a little heat. This dish is great for people who are afraid of those notes. It's on the sweeter side. It might be good for you. Moo Hong A classic braised pork belly dish, tender and moist. Impactful. Can't go wrong. With origins from Vietnam and China , very comforting food. Surf & Turf Plater Great for sharing group the green sauce is tasty and the brown one is sweet. Tom Klong Linguine w Pork belly I never had tom Klong before but it's very aromatic and has all those traditional Thai notes. Galangal, Lime leaves. The pork belly adds a nice crunch. I think it's better if they only make the skin crunchy and leave the meaty party juicy. Or just sub it with a different protein. If you like Thai food and you want to try something different and delicious there is no other choice. read more

I hadn't even heard of this place before about a week ago, and I noticed that all the reviews here were glowing, so I was certainly quite excited to give it a shot myself. (I will admit, though, that I wasn't expecting it to live up to the effusive praise in the various reviews, but that fear was absolutely unfounded.) I always, always get Pad Thai the first time I order food from a Thai restaurant - I call it the Pad Thai test - so it's not surprising that I decided to go with the Pad Thai Maya (Rice Noodle, Egg, Tofu, Bean Sprouts, Chives, Tamarind Sauce and Ground Peanut), and I got that with Chicken and asked for the food Extra Spicy. It arrived a short time later and was unfortunately not too hot, but a quick zap in the microwave fixed that problem. This is one damn fine Pad Thai. It's actually a dish that gets more and more tasty as you eat it, as the various flavors begin to reveal themselves. Everything's cooked perfectly, too, including the copious chicken. And the spice level was exactly right. I'm really curious to try some of the other offerings at Maya Bay Thai Snack Bar now that it's passed my Pad Thai test. read more

What a great find!! We decided to give this place a try after having tried many of the well known Thai spots in town. We got 4 items: 1. Smoked chili shrimps with rice and scrambled egg: shrimp was flavourful but definitely on the salty side. The combination of a scrambled egg with the rice was a nice change from the usual sunny side egg. 2. Karee soft shell crab: wow the complexity of the flavours in there!!! The aroma and flavour of this dish is outta this world. So much flavour burst in your mouth when you bite into that crab and the morning glory soaked up all the flavours of the sauce. This dish will demolish that bowl of rice. Not to be missed! 3. Green curry chicken on rice: we got medium spicy for this one and it was damn spicy. But the flavours were on point and suited my personal preference of not being overly coconut cream dominant. 4. Pad Ka pao with fried egg: this is one of my favourite Thai dishes and I had to try it here. It was delicious, very fragrant, all the Thai herbs were aromatic. It did not disappoint. I had a terrible experience will not be going back. First the waiter was rude when I asked questions, like what the difference between the rice dish and the stir fry was. Or what kind of spices were used in the fried rice (menu does not indicate 'thai fried rice, or basil fried rice. Just says 'fried rice') After waiting 20 minutes for my $20 fried rice I took it home and it NO FLAVOUR whatsoever. Nothing. Just browned rice, pieces of Tomato and shrimp that was obviously from frozen and so under cooked it was impossible to chew. For context I've been to Thailand, I've been to Vietnam, Cambodia and Malysia. I'm not a stranger to SE Asian food and when I say this was NO FLAVOUR I mean just that. Not too little, or not enough for my taste. Nothing. Lastly I was disappointed in the spring rolls. And the sauce was just straight out of the bottle plastic sweet chili sauce. Not going back. I thought i'd give these guys a try via delivery, sadly my area is lacking in decent Thai food, this was pretty good! flavours were on point, i ordered the pad see ew, i found the dish was well balanced, plenty of each ingredient, my order was a little on the small side but still tasty and enjoyable, surprisingly they had won ton soup, and i know, it's not thai, but i have a soft spot for it and felt i needed to order it, it was tasty as well, a little on the garlic side, not a usually ingredient, but for $14, i was really disappointed with how small it was, i'm used to getting a big container as literally everyone else does it that way, but this came in a small cardboard soup container. no value there in that dish, and i won't order their soup again. but their noodles seem good enough, so i'll order again from that side of the menu. Overall i'd say it's a pretty good Thai place, is there better? sure, hopefully they elevate their game. i'd love a GREAT thai place around here. I'm still looking for that gem though. Wide variety of menu items and cocktails; I especially enjoyed that there are 2 menus, one regular and one iron chef and was pleasantly surprised at the price point- very affordable given the quality and quantity of the items. This place has legit Thai food and they don't cut corners like other places. We ordered a Pad Thai Maya spicy and a Pad Kee Mao spicy and wow! If you want spicy this is the place cuz it's spicy as f***! Ingredients were fresh and the dish was full of flavour; the presentation and packaging superb. Owned by the same people who started Eat BKK and Koh Lipe, Maya Bay has a more unique menu of Thai dishes . I've wanted to try it since I read that they had a guest chef since January who won Iron Chef Thailand. My hubby and I have been here two times now and his most favorite thing is definitely the som tum wings. I really liked their soft shell crab karee. Ironically the dishes I wasn't that big a fan of were the ones by the Iron Chef. So I guess in a way that's good since we'll keep coming back for more! read more

I ordered their chicken pad thai lunch special that came with two spring rolls and a hot and sour soup, plus I had to order their salted egg yolk fries because I love salted egg yolk. Chicken pad thai, medium - Kind of bland, the flavour was good but it needed to be bolder, a lot bolder, and medium wasn't spicy at all. Spring rolls - They were very crispy but lacked filling, was mostly eating the wrapper. Tried one of two because it came with the meal but would never order on the side if it was a la carte. Hot and sour soup - Best dish from my order today, it was slightly spicy and sour. Salted egg yolk fries - Barely any salted egg yolk... it was disappointing. They weren't bad but if you're looking for salted egg yolk, you will be disappointed. It was frozen fries in a brown paper bag with some salted egg yolk and presumably tom yum seasoning. Unfortunate experience when I went last week. Being seated and getting drinks were fine, but then the service started to decline. Clearly there were two servers for the very crowded restaurant and it took 45 minutes for us to see our server after we ordered I ordered two items off the vegan menu and ended up getting sick because they were not vegan. There was milk in one item and eggs in the other. When I questioned the validity of the vegan items my server said "there's only a bit of milk in it" :-( I am lactose intolerant and couldn't enjoy the rest of my meal. Have ordered from Maya Bay Thai Snack Bar a few times via UberEats and recently went in person for pick up and was surprised at how cute the interior was! Great decor and large windows on a corner lot makes for great people watching. Will definitely be back with friends and family for in-door dining. I've ordered from this restaurant 3 times on Uber eats. Every single item I've had has been fricken delicious. My first order I had spring rolls( that were free with $20 purchase), crispy pork belly pad thai, and mango sticky rice. The second order i got the Tom Kia soup and the spring rolls again. Interesting menu but not well executed. Perhaps my expectation was too high or maybe because it was delivery (although the food was prepared quickly and delivered quickly). I feel that majority of the things I ordered were not prepared to order. Salted egg fries was soggy and not nearly enough salted egg flavour and the lime just made it even soggier and it was unnecessary. I actually had salted egg fries at a restaurant in Bangkok and that was delicious and literally COVERED in salted egg. This was not even comparable. Lime chilies softshell crab - the flavor was very good (flavour profile reminded me of Thailand - bright, intense, sour, salty, spicy). But unfortunately, softshell crab was soggy. This was likely because the salad was saucy (wetness and fried stuff don't go together). Recommendation is to separate the fried things from wet things, and allow steam to escape from hot fried things. Tom Yum fried chicken wings - not much tom yum flavour, it was mainly lime with a bit of spice. It was underwhelming. Veggie spring rolls - (it was a freebie but reviewing it anyway) these were pipping hot (which led me to believe that everything else was not made to order) but tasteless. There was barely anything inside. And since it was tasteless, I'd expect some kind of dipping sauce but there was none. The flavour of this cuisine should literally punch you in the face. This restaurant did not meet that expectation (with the exception of the salad that went with the softshell crab). Overall, I'm giving this place a C-. I might go check out their street side snacks in the summer (I drove past it and it reminded me of Thailand), but other than that I will not order from this place again. I'd pick Silom Bistro (for selected/specific things) over this place. Definitely not worth the almost $40 I paid. read more
