We came on a weekday and they had a number of free tables. I played an accidental game of Goldilocks and sat in a few places before I found one I liked. Frequent this place way too much, it's one of my go tos/favorites. Things they absolutely nail: - veggie options they offer (petition to have the sabich on dinner menu) - bread (they need to patent this stuff) - extremely strong mixology/cocktail program - theme nights (bring.them.back!) - sauces and flavorings like amba, zhoug, generious use of herbs...they are very proud of their middle eastern flair, use it very well, and it shines! Things they could strengthen: - cook on the chicken/fish. These are borderline undercooked or just enough that so(me)one with meat preferences or aversions can quickly get put off by. I would give this place a solid 4.5 stars, but since I can't do that, I'll bump it up in the name of supporting awesome small businesses. The only reason I'm dinging them is because their kitchen got super backed up today (we did go on a Saturday during brunch hours)... but I only wish our server would've given us a heads up on the wait time for our food. Also, there was a miscommunication somewhere and our starter (the delish potatoes) wasn't placed as a starter- so the kitchen made it to come out with everything else, which took about 40 min. Service was great, food is family style which is great for me. Food was good, except for the hangar steak. We had a great time at Mayfield in San Juan Capistrano. We started with the baba ghanoush and the Spanish whipped feta. The baba ghanoush was delicious with a nice crunch from the pom seeds on top. The whipped feta was just okay for us it was a bit watery, and we didn't really care for it. For mains, we had the Mayfield burger, which was delicious, and the skinny fries, which were absolutely to die for. We also ordered the za'atar fried chicken, which was super crispy and could easily be shared between two people. The harissa honey was a perfect match for the chicken. We also tried their house hot sauce which had a nice spicy kick to it. It was an extra charge, but really tasty. The cocktails (we had the Papa Picantes) were refreshing and we ended going for seconds. Service was friendly but a little confusing. We had one server introduce themselves, another take our order, and then the first came back but honestly, we interacted more with the food runner during our visit, she was sweet. We decided to try this place out for a birthday lunch and we were surprised by them! We started off with the Corn Ribs which were very tasty and the seasoning was just right. 10/10 We then tried the French Fries which were paired with a very tasty ranch dip recipe that I've grew fond of as it has a unique flavor! 10/10 And for the main dish we shared a Cauliflower Shawarma which was a big portions and super tasty with all the classic flavors but elevated. It didn't disappoint! 10/10 We had an ice vanilla coffee and iced vanilla matcha and those were good as well. But leave room for work. 8/10 The service was great and timely even though it was very busy. It had cool and cute decor. Wanted to check out Breezy for my birthday breakfast, but when I arrived it was closed. Thankfully, Mayfield, located right next to it, immediately caught my eye and their brunch menu was a no brainer for me. Although it was definitely difficult to choose between all the amazing options. My mom and I shared the avocado toast as a starter and it came out a rainbow delight. I picked the steak and eggs as my entree, while my mom chose the grain bowl . The steak was cooked exactly to my liking. This review is for the manager that was on staff this past weekend. I believe her name was Nicole. Whoever the owner of this place is really needs to look into her managing and the way she speaks to guests. Me and my girlfriend came in to just get a nice brunch on a Sunday afternoon as we have done at Mayfield multiple times. We were greeted and there was going to be a wait but the "host" (which was this manager) told us there was bar seating available. When we looked for a very brief moment there was only single chairs open so we obviously went back to get our name on the list. In that time she had put a party ahead of us on the list. No big deal it didn't take that long to get sat down. However, when it came to the actual meal that was when it got bad. Our server came and greeted us in a timely manner and everything was going fine. It was obviously busy so the drinks took a bit to arrive but it was still okay. Then came the food. Here is where everything went south. The food was taking awhile and when I checked it had been 25 minutes since we ordered. I asked my server "Hey is our food ever going to come?" And she said she would check on it. Then me and my girlfriend noticed that we watched 3 other tables, one of them being a 6 top was given their food before us and we sat down way before them. Obviously we were both pretty pissed about it and it was a horrible experience to have at a restaurant. My and my girlfriend both work in the restaurant industry so we obviously know that stuff happens and nothing goes perfect. However, we needed to speak to a manager about this as we were having a really bad time and that is the best course of action for any complaints is to speak cordially with the manager. She came over and was immediately defensive about every thing we complained about. I got bacon and eggs and my girlfriend got a bacon and egg sandwhich. So I asked her, "Does it really take half an hour to make bacon and eggs?" She again was defensive and said yes it does we have an extremely small kitchen. That is a very redundant piece of information to give me as I just watched 3 other tables courses come out before mine. She also went back to the kitchen to then come back and bring me the timestamps of the food saying "Oh they were only sent in 3 minutes apart so it was the same time". This was honestly just extremely childish. Again as a manager you should not be getting defensive unless the person has a completely unreasonable request or complaint. I don't think that ours was that and I left there knowing I won't come back. Whoever the owner of this place is please read this and do something about your manager. Your servers obviously don't like her it was very evident on the floor and she just treats people very badly. read more

We sat on the second-floor covered patio--since we were early for our reservation, we had the patio mostly to ourselves. Delightful experience, lovely ambience, delicious food, attentive service. I recommend the shared appetizer (5 dips with four pieces of challah). It's been awhile since I had such a lovely loaf of fresh challah, and the dips are amazing. I don't write negative reviews lightly, but this experience crossed a line. We're locals and have been here many times, which makes how we were treated even more disappointing. Brunch took an unreasonably long time with little to no communication from staff. To make matters worse, our beverages were cleared from the table before our food had even arrived, which set the tone for how disorganized the experience felt. When we finally asked about our order, the manager and the owner, George, acknowledged the delay, but that is where any professionalism ended. Both were unapologetic, dismissive, and blatantly condescending. The manager literally sashayed away mid-conversation, ponytail swinging, which felt incredibly disrespectful given the situation. There was no attempt to make things right. Instead, their attitude made it clear they couldn't care less and that we were somehow in the wrong for asking a simple, reasonable question. We didn't really know what to expect other than we were handed menus and told to pick a bunch of options. With Drink orders quickly placed the "Rip & Dips" landed and they did not disappoint. The group consensus was the spinach whipped feta with garlic confit was the clear winner but all the dips were amazing. After conferring amongst the group we decided on the rest of the options and the dishes started raining on our table but let's talk about the cocktails. Notable cocktails were the Club Tropicana and a Beet cocktail that I can't remember the name now. My favorite dishes were the Zatar Fried Chicken, the Octopus, and the Croquettes. Amazing dinner! We came in on a Wednesday night and made a reservation, and we had such a great time at this adorable restaurant! The place itself has phenomenal ambiance, and I love how it gives an indoor/outdoor feel. We ordered multiple things to share. We ordered a few of the dips with the vegetables and bread, which was amazing! Throughout the entire dinner we kept talking about the focaccia, it was that good! We also ordered the salmon carpaccio which was not what I expected, and phenomenal! Maybe my favorite dish we ordered. We also got the sweet potatoes, and the branzino. The plates came out one by one, really adding to the dining experience. For dessert, we got the mango sorbet which had smashed pistachios in it. I have been to this place about a handful of times now and it has progressively gotten better. We came near its opening very close to Covid and the menu was good but there was nothing standout to me. The apps are delicious and the mains are very solid. Fast forward to today and everything on the menu is pretty spectacular. We have come for dinner and brunch and even on a "theme night" or popup event. Most recently we came to Mediterranean Taco night and it did not disappoint. The menu played homage to CDMX restaurant Contramar ( a must try when visiting). We ordered the tuna tostada, kabob, prawns, mushroom taco (wow), branzino, and tres leches cake for dessert. I took off one star because I have not found a cocktail that I love here yet. They always just slightly miss the mark for me, or perhaps I'm ordering the wrong thing. My husband and I started ordering from the starter menu thinking we would order dinner too, but the starter was plenty. We ordered Baba Ganoush, Hummus, Muhammara, Date Labneh, Spinach Whipped Feta and challah bread and they were all wonderful, but my favorite was the Date Labneh and the challah bread was fantastic. From their cocktail menu The Blosom Breeze was a wonderful refreshing one. All the servers were very nice and pleasant. The only thing I would say that needs improvement is the chairs on the patio I thought they can be more comfortable and I know it's patio , but it would be nice to see less spider webs! The place was so cute and the hostess helped me right away as soon as I walked up. I said table for one, and was given 2 choices where to sit (which I appreciated). I sat by the window so I could get a view of the street and watch the passersby. I was greeted by my server, Jessie, who was absolutely fantastic. NOTE: To my surprise, I read on their menu that their dishes are meant to be shared by 2 or more people. I was concerned for a moment and asked Jessie for her suggestion/advice on what to order, as it was just me. She guided me through the menu with care and consideration. I appreciated her taking the time and being so sweet! Quality customer service, 5/5. Based on her recs, I ordered: Crudo (striped bass sashimi, coconut milk aguachile, kiwi, jicama, cilantro oil) @ $22, the Beef Kabob Skewer @ $7 per skewer, and the hummus & date labneh @ $4.50 per dip and 2 pieces of focaccia @ $2 per piece. I also indulged in their signature cocktail, the Limelight (Kaffir Lime Leaf Infused Vodka, cucumber, lime, ginger beer) @ $15. The cocktail was refreshing, but I'm biased since I love ginger beer and lime. The star of the meal was most definitely the crudo with an aguachile sauce. Not spicy like typical aguachile, but there was a depth in flavor and creaminess to the sauce due to the coconut milk. The sauce was pleasantly light and paired with the bass well, only suggestion was that it could have benefitted from some citrus. The hummus was also a favorite - don't skip! If you are expecting traditional, stronger Middle Eastern flavors, expect to be surprised as it take "modern Mediterranean" seriously and is experimental in the best ways. There is a cute shop area with local home goods and drinks. They have plenty of delicious plant based food, as well as meat so you can bring the whole family / friend group. Even though it was a preset menu, he offered good suggestions for the options. I should also note that I was a bit frantic from the crazy traffic in SJC.
