Came here for some lunch style dim sum on a sunday afternoon, since one of the guy friends said texted me Dim Sum? He doesn't live here and drives back and from SLO so I was dead tired from the night before but hey why not? We get here and waited 40 mins for our table and what was even worse they sat us in a table that was in the bar/lounge area. So we had people staring waiting for their table staring at us while we were eating. We didn't get to hear the clammer of people eating and talking ISH and they had to bring food in with a plate not with their carts. That was kinda of a disappointment. So I guess if you were to come here, come here as a party of two because they were seating them first. The food here is pretty good. Mr. Mayflower owner guy drives an Aston Martin that he loudly parks in front of his restaurant, in a special spot that is coned off to everyone else. This is because his restaurant makes a damn lot of money. This is because his restaurant is extremely efficient, as well as probably the tastiest dim sum in the South Bay. These truths are evident by the throngs of Asian people who wait in line outside, 3 generations in tow, for a coveted round table inside. Crowd-following restaurant Asians know what they're doing. You know what I'm talking about -- if you've ever been in an Asian country, anytime you see a long line out a bakery, restaurant, dessert cafe, or street vendor cart, just get in it. You can figure it what it's for later. You won't regret it. Mayflower doesn't have the most delicious dim sum ever, certainly not as good as San Francisco's finest, and definitely not as good as Hong Kong's. But it's 5 minutes from my house and it definitely hits the spot on a weekend at 1 pm. read more

I came here on Easter Sunday for dim sum with a big group of people while I was visiting a friend in Cali. The food was pretty much like any typical dim sum place, mostly average. I found it hard to get the dishes we wanted because they would either stop cooking them at a certain time or they just didn't carry them around to our table. We ended up having to tell one of the dim sum ladies on what we wanted, but they gave us the wrong order for one of them. They actually added tip onto our bill and I ended up paying $12 for my part, so it was a little pricey. read more

I wish I could give zero stars! I am blown away at how horrible the customer service is here!! I came here with my mother and 2 kids and we were seated fast and bombarded with a bunch of dim sum carts, which was cool because we were hungry. There were 4 of us and they gave us 2 cups of water. 10 - 15 minutes passed and we still hadn't got to order. I asked one of the employees that was serving dim sum how we're supposed to order. He said "you wait for your waiter". I said okay, but... and he walks away. 5 - 10 minutes later, I see a waiter taking orders at the table next to us so I said when he was done, "Hi, we're ready to order too". He said "I'm not your waiter in your area you need to wait for your waiter" and he walks away. We're still eating dim sum, but we wanted something rice or noodles or some kind of carbs!! I gave up on the waiter. We were there for more than an hour and not one waiter came to us or checked on us! All these employees with Dim Dum, but not ONE waiter that came to our table. Omg!! I still can't get over this experience as I've never had something like this happen before!! But when I asked for the bill, that was lightning fast!! We had about 14 small dishes of dim sum served to us and a pot pot of tea. The check was $123! I felt robbed all because of my customer service experience!! $123 to be ignored! I DID NOT TIP. I ALWAYS TIP, but this was just ridiculous to me. They were so quick to take my hard earned money, but could not check on us at least once?!?! NEVER EVER EVER AGAIN! As for the dim sum, the fried sea bass and shrimp ball was over salted. The onion cake was bland. The steamed pork was okay, the roasted duck and pork were really good though. The dim sum roasted pork was $18 a small plate which I feel is over priced. They give you a pot of tea, but charge you $1.50 per person... uhhhh no. I've been to WAY better Chinese restaurants with delicious food AND better customer service for half the price I paid here. Again, NEVER AGAIN in any life time will I come back here. Recommended by a friend who says she eats here every once in a while with her family. She came with my group to eat an early classic dim sum breakfast (wasn't too crowded right at opening). Honestly, the food was just very meh in general. I guess they're doing something right since it got pretty crowded by the time we left. I just don't think this place is worth coming to with other dim sum restaurants in the area. Let me start off by saying that the service here is so bad :(. I rarely crave dimsum, but a few friends wanted to grab some so we opted for this place! Dimsum is nice because it's cheap and quick. The only things I typically eat are the shumai, shrimp rolls, and the porridge; which were all pretty decent here. The workers here don't really care to make your dining experience pleasant. One of the workers asked if we were ordering anything else and swiped our bill. Also, don't forget to wash your dishes, cups, sauce plates, and utensils before using them. GROSS! Soup dumplings, the worst I've ever tasted. The shell of it hard as rock. 10 items small items and our bill came to $65...so not worth the it. The lady bring food on the tray was so aggressive, almost demanding us to take the food she so aggressively suggested. I also order congee with the Chinese donut. The congee came out cold and tasteless and the doubt came out after we finish the congee (Chinese donut is eaten with the Congee). The bowl had food stuck on it. Won't be coming back here. read more

Came here with friends for dim sum on a Sunday. I give it four stars because most of their dishes contain shrimp and I like shrimp. If you are not a shrimpophile or you're just plain vegetarian, then 3 stars is probably more your speed. But the steamed pork buns were fine and my friends enjoyed the chicken feet, so there are some non-shrimp options around. For dessert, be on the lookout for these puffed-up biscuit looking things that have a sweet fruit gooey filling inside. Dee-lish! read more

Umm I don't know how good the food is here bc I left before I ate bc the service is totally horrible. I came in at lunch around 1pm and it was not that busy. Since my little brother was in town visiting & he wanted some seafood, not the usual dim sum. The manager or host was in a rush to seat us, didn't even greet us. Another hostess came to take us to the table, I was telling her that we want to order from the menu 5X before she turned around and said "ooh you want menu?". This Mayflower restaurant is much better than the original one in San Francisco, partly because you get to order the dim sum you want on a weekday. Other than that their dim sum is pretty decent. May be a little bit pricey for some of their dim sum selections. We've gone to this place since it opened, and before it was a good place to eat some dim sum and expect good service. The most recent trip was a huge disappointment. The service is terrible. From my personal experience the servers fails to acknowledge its customers. During the first 10 minutes my table had no utensils, almost as if we were expected to eat with our hands. We had to ask several waiters for them. Even getting some drinks took several tries. The waiters were inattentive, rude, and the place wasn't even busy. Many tables were empty and they acted like they were rushed. The food itself was sometimes not fresh. Some was cold, or dry, as if they were left overs. Before, there was a larger variety of food. Now, they cut down their selection. Each customer practically orders the same thing. One dish never showed up. We had asked several times about it, and we were only told to wait and the dish took time to cook. After 45 minutes, we just called the bill, and it took forever to get receive the bill. The food is overpriced, and they take every opportunity to wring money out of their customers. Ordering some hot water costs $1.20 per person. Complaining to the management does nothing, as they act like they don't care, which they probably don't. This place has terrible service and the food is meh. Definitely not worth it. I would give this place 0 stars if I could. "Dynasty" in Cupertino is a much better place to go for dim sum. read more

Seriously, how could this be one of the only dim sum options in this area? The food royally sucks as does the service...'cept when it's time for the bill to come out and all of a sudden it's "do you want a clean plate?" or "did you want to order anything else?" with smiles. My party of two arrived at 1:15pm and still had to wait about twenty minutes for a table. Upon seating, we were asked if we wanted tea (note: $1 per PERSON for tea service), and I asked for a fork for my dad which never came. There were so few dim sum carts/servers rolling around, we pretty much finished all of one food item and had time to twiddle our thumbs a bit before a second food option came around. On top of the dwindling options as 2:00pm neared, the dim sum was terrible! As Cuc Crystal tips, everything is extremely, EXTREMELY bland (from the har gow to the rice noodle cakes to the chow fun). The one item that was semi-tasty was the clams in noodles with Malaysian sauce -- it came in a metal pot, boiling over, with real fresh clam bits on the top and a sh*t ton of noodles (poor ratio). It was the tastiest item we had and it took fifteen minutes to come out after I had to call out to someone to place the order. Oh yeah, cleanliness is definitely an issue. I saw a gentleman folding the huge table linens himself and the table linens dragged on the floor by the bathroom. Since I had to bus our own utensils from the corner, I noticed that a lot of them were rather dirty. Water refills come from an opaque blue plastic pitcher. And female servers do not leave bathroom stalls clean... Overall, I was not impressed. Sucks; I should have read my own review from '08 and saved myself $45. I rolled over to Mayflower for Dinner tonight . It is located in the Milpitas Ranch 99 Strip Mall. Plenty of parking. I entered and was promptly greeted and seated . They have a very nice wall of Live Tanks for their Seafood very impressive. The Restaurant has an Upscale Feel to it, nicely decorated and Rosewood Chairs at the tables. I ordered the Seafood Combination Over Pan Fried Noodles. There tables have Chopstick holders which I thought was pretty cool. Service there was very good. I was served my food 10 minutes later and it was Delish . Big pieces of Scallops ,Squid, Shrimp ,Bock Choy and Mushrooms over a big bed of Pan Fried Noodles.. Their Peking Duck looks very good next time I'm there Ill order that. It would be a very nice place to take a Date. Warning Pricing Is On The Higher Side , I'm glad I had my Black MasterCard LOL. But I think the quality of the food backs that. this seems to be your typical large dim-sum restaurant (which i didn't know existed around here--that tells you how often i go to have dim sum in the bay area). overall the food is pretty good, although most dishes struck me as being overly salty. things i remember about individual ones: * the potstickers were of decent size, but there was something lacking -- it seemed almost a bit too brutish and lacking in finesse. (omg if that's not some vague food-critic bullcrap i don't know what is, but i really can't put into words how i feel about it). * the siu mai was quite good. * har gow skin was a bit too thick. * i normally don't like the taro dumpling (wu gok, thanks wiki) but it was actually quite pleasant here. (thanks, jackie d.!) * the xlb came in these cute little foil cupcake-wrapper-things, i guess to trap any leaky soup. much like the potstickers, though, i was left unimpressed. good, but by no means great. * char siu bao: where's the beef?!?! (err, pork!) seemed to be too much bread, not enough meat. (this is in reference to the steamed variety) two things to watch out for (and the reasons why i'm not giving it 4 stars): 1) the parking lot -- zomg i've never seen such a busy parking lot with so many bad drivers jockeying to get a space. be careful and don't be surprised if you have to spend longer finding a spot than it took you to actually drive there from home. 2) like other reviewers said, some servers are VERY insistent on you trying what they have to offer. are they on commission or something? oy, some will even put stuff down on your table and begin moving their stamp to the check before you can even shake your head/say no/make a "no" hand motion. don't say i didn't warn ya! read more

when i had come here years ago the dim sum seemed pretty good but went back again after a few years for dinner and, uhm, well, this place SUCKS! okay maybe that's a lil harsh but you can get better chinese food elsewhere for better prices. the only thing i liked was the soup and sizzling beef. and i know not to expect fantastic customer service at a chinese restaurant BUT when the hubby asked for an order of potstickers, the waiter said, "we don't serve potstickers for dinner" and just walked away. hello?!! he could have suggested what they DID have! Terrible service on Chinese New Years, I came here with my family hoping to have a good time, but there were a few things we couldn't help but notice that made our experience worse. Apparently if you don't give the servers and waiters a red envelope on New Years they will do their very best to ignore you. We were waiting for our food to be served and the table next to us just gave a few of the workers some red envelopes and their entire table was surrounded by servers. This Mayflower restaurant seems to be the only one that has maintained it's quality in food. Change in management at the Great Mall Mayflower has been its downfall, unfortunately. The Union City location lacks flavor in many dishes. I have been going to each of these restaurants since I was a kid and have generally had great experiences. This location, in particular, is still above average in its execution of traditional Chinese banquet dishes. There is also a great deal for $55 a person that includes a prix fixe menu of lobster e-fu noodle, abalone/shark fin/sea cucumber herbal soup ("Buddha jumps over the wall" soup), empress clam (proper name?), roasted pigeon, a cold appetizer and dessert. This is an awesome deal considering the soup itself is normally $25-35 dollars at some places, if not more. I brought my dad here for his birthday to partake of this feast along with my mom and a couple of my day's business partners. I was very satisfied with the overall quality and flavor of each dish. I was definitely stuffed by the end of the meal and we had plenty leftover to bring home and enjoy the next day. I believe you do have to call ahead of time to make reservations and also notify the restaurant of the prix fixe meal. This is also a great spot for dim sum, from what I remember! read more

2.5 stars After craving dim sum, the SO and I came here since we already were in the area. It was a weekday so the place was pretty empty at 11:30ish. I like that the staff is pretty polite. They say thank you and you're welcome whenever you interact with them. It's a nice change. It's not hard getting someone's attention if you need something. The food was a let down. Although the dishes are large, the quality is definitely lacking. One of my favorites is the shrimp flat noodle. I was shafted twice by two other tables so I was super happy when one of the ladies came out directly to our table with it. The noodle part was realllllly mushy and even with the sauce it was bland. The same thing goes for the har gow. The shiu mai was pretty good and was the only saving grace for this visit. I remembered this chain being so great as a kid, but then again I was young and eating out was always fun. read more

I love Dim Sum and had heard about this place from co workers. My friend and I went at lunch and what I immediately noticed was a lot of staff herding and rushing patrons. It all seemed proficient, until our waiter was very impatient when taking our drink order. We selected about six different dim sum dishes and eat and talked. When the bill came it was in Mandarin except for the total which was $79.00. I was shocked. Must have gotten the wrong bill I thought. I brought it up to the apparent man in charge, he said it was correct without as much as a review. I asked for an itemized receipt, and he said they did not do that. (However I saw one at the next table a few minutes earlier.) He told me to pay the bill. Since I had no choice, I paid the bill and left no tip. When the man in charge saw this he was livid and gathered a group of workers and dished us in Mandarin as we left. Never will I return to this place. read more

i'm shocked that i've never reviewed this place. maybe because it never blows my mind when i come here. For my last visit: Having been away from good Chinese food for a few months, i was definitely craving dim sum. it for sure satisfied my craving. I ordered dish after dish, and ate just a few bites before moving on to the next dish. There was a lot of variety that came around. but standard dim sum options didn't come around very often. We had to wait a while before the shrimp dumplings came around. My fav dim sum option is the Chinese donut wrapped in rice noodle... sadly it was disappointing. It was fresh from the kitchen because i ordered it special... and they only served soy sauce with it. no peanut sauce or hoisin sauce to go with it. :( it satisfied my dimsum craving because i've been deprived of it's goodness, but in reality, as compared to other places i've had, it wasn't very good. read more

Came here for a business lunch today, and ordered a few new things that I've never tried here before: sweet taro buns (I think I may have found my 2nd fave item here), tripe (awesome), suckling pig (nice and flavorful with perfect crispy skin), and their XLB (no soup inside, and skin was too thick - my least fave). Otherwise, everything else was super fresh and tasty as usual... We topped it off with their sesame daifuku topped with peanut powder (this is my #1 fave thing here - so fresh and delectable). I think if I came here, I would just come here for the dimsum. It gets really busy. It's fun trying all these small little plates of goodies. Instead of not knowing what to order and ordering large plates of food, you can just come here for the dimsum and grab small little appettizers. Servers go around table to table with a cart/tray of food and for every plate of food you select, they stamp your card accordingly. At the end of your meal they charge you based on the stamps. read more

I've been to Mayflower quite a few times, food wise I have no complaints. Either for dim sum or dinner its quite delish. Last night, I had the garlic crab which was finger-licking good... all they way down to the bed of fried garlic it lay on. Did I mention they deep fry the good stuff in the inside of the shell too? Soooooo bad for you, but too good to pass up. We also had this chicken clay pot dish (the name I cant remember), that had a variety of items that I couldnt identify because of the sauce but all of which were pleasantly surprising - Chinese sausage, onion, garlic, and (duh) chicken that were all so tender and blended well together. Nothing was too overpowering over any of the other tastes, it all melted together like buttah. Lastly, we had Chinese broccoli, but you cant really go wrong with Chinese broccoli, can you? Especially with a side of oyster sauce. On a side note: if anyone has any suggestions on how to eat Chinese broccoli with chopsticks, please let me know. I was starting to understand how Julia Roberts felt with the oyster (or was it escargot?) in Pretty Woman. Broccoli was flying everywhere! I took off a star more for service. It took awhile to order, and the waiter didnt even look at us the whole time we were ordering, which is just rude. And trying to get your water refilled makes you feel a little bit like the invisible woman. read more

I used to come here whenever I was in the mood for dimsum while I was still living in SJ. Not bad at all. It can get really busy and you may have to wait a little, but I've never really had to wait too long. Once you're sat, the carts start rolling your way so you can start to get some food in your belly already =) I've definitely had better dim sum experiences out in the city, but for this area I think it's decent. The prices are pretty affordable too, so that's always a plus. Although I do have to note that this is located in a large shopping plaza so the parking lots are hectic. And unless you have patience to wait you may have to settle for parking way on the other side of the lot. read more

I'm not a fan. I like the layout of the restaurant, big, spacious. But so noisy and loud I can barely hear my family talk. I remember 2 things from this place: expensive and the fish. All the other dishes were fine. The fish, oh my gosh, we ordered the $28 steam flounder fish, and it wasn't fresh, like the steamed fish was hard. It was not soft and moist. It was tough and hard. Does flounder normally have tough meat? A relative flag down a server who said he will go check (check where?) and the poor guy just ran off and never came back the whole night probably because he didn't know what to do either. read more

Just got married on June 1,2013 and we had our banquet at this wonderful restaurant . We somehow miscalculated our guest and our banquet manager Jack Doan was awesome . He was so awesome he had his staff put tables and chair together in a snap of time. I original booked 12 tables which is only 120 people, but I needed 13 tables. Also some of my guest could not eat certain food. Guess what Jack was there to solve all my problems again. Jack is a great asset to Mayflower Restaurant. I want to thank Jack,for everything you have done for me. You made my experience AMAZING. We thank again Jack for making our wedding dinner a success. read more

Other female server who delivered our entrees was rude. She left the entree on the side and we have to adjusted our dishes ourselves. The food took a long time and portion is really small now and expensive than ever! I used to love coming here and I had booked parties in the past. But thing really went downhill.
