This was first introduced to me by my roommate who would go nearly every week. He'd always offer me a taste and each dish he brought home made my mouth water.I knew there was the Mayuri supermarket next door, but I never walked past it to see their cafe. The chicken and vegetable puffs almost remind me of a light Spanakopita, but without the cheese. Try the chaat, which I was told is like Indian street food, and their manchurian, which is the main course. If you like spicy, try the chili manchurian. I guarantee it'll knock your socks off. If you like sweets, you'll like Mayuri Bakery. Although they're a "bakery," it's really just the term for "a place with food." If there's one thing I know, Indian people LOVE milk and sweets. This cafe has over 30 items total in the sweets and pastries section alone. Unbelievable! Not to mention, this bakery's Rasmalai is by far the best I've had in Seattle. I love Rasmalai and would go to every Indian restaurant to try it, but this cafe's is the creme of the crop. If you really enjoy Indian food, try it out here. The Mayuri Bakery is a favourite tea-time haunt of my team at work, thanks to the wide variety of Indian snacks here, most of which are pretty delicious. I love the samosa here, delicious potato filling and a yummy crisp crust all for a $1.50. I've tried a couple of their chaat items including samosa chaat and paapdi chaat, with pretty positive results. They also make a refreshing and thick mango lassi. So I've had some great things here and some blah items as well. I think I've finally learned what to and what not to get. Love their channa bhatura - it's had just the right amount of spiciness and the bhatura is always huge and fried to perfection. Also like their samosas and their veggie puffs - just know that both are SPICY and how fresh the veggie puffs are will determine how much you like them. We've tried some of the noodles and they are just ok (didn't order them again). Their mithais are also hit or miss. Some are great and some are just ok. This is a food and chai review., I have not tried their pastries or cakes yet. I've been here numerous time now. They have good food, and I love their chai. Just writing about it makes me crave it! Very few Indian food places get chai right - which is very surprising, but true. I have tried their chana and roti, biryani, some chaat items, and jalebi. The chaat items such as papri, aloo chaat, pav bhaji etc. are OK (2/5), the roti which was served with the chana was not well done, but the chana itself was good. Jalebi here is not good, and I actually have not had good fresh jalebi anywhere in the US. I'd give their food a 2.5/5, service is 4/5 (always courteous) but since I like their chai so much I am giving them a 4 overall! Tip 1: They started accepting the prime card a few months back, and have 10% off. Tip 2: Don't try to finish their chicken biryani all by yourself!! It is perfectly spiced, and you don't want to stop once you start eating... but I'd recommend sharing it with someone as the portion is good, and along with the raita and the water you'll probably need, it might make you too full to move! read more

My fiance likes to come here for those little balls of dough soaked in juices "gulam jamin" or something like that. He absolutely loves them and loves them from this place as well. We travel atleast 15-20 min just for these things. I on the other hand ordered the small forest cake, which was good but nothing about it tasted like a cake. Which is why 1 star is removed. The whole thing tasted like whip cream and sugar. If I was 5 years old I may consider this heaven, but as an adult not my fortay on Forrest cake. The staff is really polite and works super hard. They are busy and lead times are longer but that is to be expected as in the last couple of years they have raised the quality and variety of their food across the board. Things I like chole bhature, goat biryani, masala dosa, mango lassi, and the recently added chicken lollipop (fantastic). Bad food/ worse service - ordered a Rava onion dosa. The dosa was done but nobody called out my order. So , it was sitting there for a while and it got cold. When I notified them that it was cold , they took the plate back and in 2 mins, brought me back the same plate. It was even more cold than before. Chapati were not freshly cooked, they were those phulkas that you get in Indian store.. And were completely uncooked.. I had to cook them at home when I received my order.. Fried rice had no veggies and taste was extremely bland and almost like jeera rice.. And at last veggie patties were size of 6 inch subway... The major plus about this place is the location. This is situated in between 148th and 156th ave. I've been to this place multiple number of times and tried quite a few dishes. The staffs at this place never have a welcoming attitude and look at the customers like the customers have no other option but to come there to eat. I strongly feel that the prime goal of any hotel business is the way customers are being treated and next comes the food. Talking about food I think the original feel of Spicy Indian food is lost here. The last item I ordered here is a Chapathi and Veg Side. The Chapathi and side is one of basic foods in Indian cuisine and I must say that it was a huge let down. The Gobi and Samosas was little OK. I visited this place after they re-modified their restaurant but they have maintained their standard spice less taste. Visit this place only for Tea. Don't go for Coffee either. Other reviewers have given it three stars mostly because Seattle has no other decent choices for indian snacks. Even if it were true (which it's not), that is no excuse. I am North-Indian, and I've ordered chat and pav-bhaji in the past. Both have been sub-par when I have ordered those. Definitely stay away from the pav-bhaji which is a waste of money. I've tried the the black-forest cake, and it's been OK - decent but nothing to write home about. The bakery/chaat/video location is pretty bad in my opinion. Well, I'm sure the videos are fine but the chaat was lame. I had pani puri (aka golgoppa), which is one of the yardstick items of chaat, and it was ok but lifeless. And paneer pakora, which was coated much too thickly, producing a hard, tasteless pakora. Not as good as Wisconsin cheese curds! I also had a besan ladoo where the sugar had crystallized, so instead of the slightly grainy texture of the besan, it was like eating coarse sand. Everything is served cold from refrigerator. Terrible service. I ordered sev puri and it was very cold. When asked they defended it. After a day I feel sick that lasted for a week. I know this because, only 2 people in our group ate sev puri and both fell sick with similar symptoms. I will never trust this bakery, chats, restaurant. Even the gulab jamoon was cold as ice.
