After stopping in because we needed a gluten free dinner option in Grandview, I'm really, really impressed. Strong flavors, some unique offerings (the mediterranean pickle platter was AWESOME), and great service. If you're dining with a GF friend, their gluten free bread for dipping sauces and sharing is a wonderful surprise - great texture, really flavorful, and the addition of spinach and sesame seeds adds a wonderful body and sweetness. The portion size is perfect, I felt satisfied without feeling overstuffed, and the fava bean puree is a great change of pace if you're used to getting hummus as your go to side (though their hummus was also very good!) They just got their license to open a full bar, and the selection looked small but nicely selective. I'm looking forward to going back to try them again! read more

How have I never been here?! Holy moly--it's amazing. Seriously, Mazah's stellar reviews don't lie; everything here is amazing. I met a friend for lunch, and we both had lentil soup and sampler plates. The ingredients were bright and fresh, and the flavor combinations were perfect. And c'mon, if you can manage to make lentils flavorful--you're great in my book. The interior space is pretty tiny, but it's adorable and has as many tables as possible crammed inside. Don't come here with a huge party; it's more of an intimate setting for couples or small groups. The staff is lovely, and everybody puts tons of heart into their business. I cannot recommend Mazah any higher, and I am so excited to try every dish on their menu. read more

I was hanging out with a friend last night, having a puppy play date. We decided to take advantage of the beautiful weather (and our laziness to cook), and order take out and sit on her patio while the pups played. She suggested Mazah. I have never been before and happily agreed. After a quick scan of the menu I knew it was falafel, hummus and baba for me. You can tell after one bite that everything is homemade. The falafel reminded me of the kind I would buy off the street vendor by my school in Israel. Everything tasted so fresh and delicious. And the baba? Wow. It may be my new favorite in town. Hands down best Baba I have ever tasted. I LOVE eating here. The food is amazing, always fresh, always perfectly prepared and plated. I always feel like I have dropped in on the family and they can't wait to feed me. Although I have not had a bad bite of food here ever, my latest menu obsession is the lamb dinner combo. It's always cooked perfectly and has plenty of flavor. The Baba Ghanoush, as I mentioned earlier, is so creamy and tasty. The cabbage salad always surprises me with how fresh and flavorful it is. Do try a side of pickled turnips (if they have them). They will change your life. If you like to have a drink with dinner, try the Carrotini. One day, I'll figure out what is in that "family spice blend". If you are a fan of simple, well prepared food, you should try Mazah as soon as you can. read more

I thought it was too small for what they were trying to do. But with this new location, LOVE IT. Can't be beat. Definitely more comfortable and spacious seating, and the food is still top notch. Good lentil soup, chicken shawarma, grape leaves, falafel, and hummus. This is like, real hummus people. Creamy and much better than the store bought stuff. Everything on the menu is good and it has enough variety to please anyone in a dining group with picky eaters, without being overwhelmingly large. The staff has been absolutely wonderful as well and they are always willing to send you home with some extra warm pita bread :) read more

Ok so honestly I didn't intend to eat here, I wanted to go to Aab but they weren't open for dinner. So across the street we go and end up at Mazah Mediterranean Eatery, and I am glad we did. I must say I like Mediterranean/Greek but I don't love it, this place has reversed all of my previous opinions. The Servers were super adorable and friendly, and the food was phenomenal. Baba ghanoush, Humus, Mujadara....it was all just plainly excellent. Super glad this place is just 5 minutes up the road....I can foresee Mazah's for many a dinner in my future! read more

Mazah continues to impress. After a long hiatus (and talking about going for, literally, months), we returned for dinner on a warm Thursday evening. We sat inside (as the covered patio has two-person tables and we were a group of three), but the large corner windows provided lots of light and made the space inviting and airy. Our server was excellent, greeting us and providing us with drinks and specials quickly. The menu is varied and with a variety of meatless and vegan dishes, salads, mujadara, etc. so it's friendly for all dietary needs, including gluten-free. All of us ordered kebab dinners with various sides. Every side they have here is delicious, from the hummus to the three-bean salad, just excellently prepared. Our kebabs were char-grilled to exactly medium doneness and served over yellow rice. The spouse got wise quick and deconstructed his kebab, then mixed his rice, potato salad and cabbage salad together into an awesome combo of goodness. We ordered a za'atar for an appetizer - homemade dough brushed with olive oil, and covered in spices and sesame seeds, served with a creamy garlic sauce - very satisfying. The red lentil soup was great, and we ended up getting an extra soup, plus a second, just-made helping of warm potato salad from our server. They're just that nice. We were too full for dessert, but we had to sacrifice in the face of so much good food. Can't wait to go here again. read more

Mazah is my favorite Mediterranean restaurant in Columbus. Yep. I've become quite particular in how I order, so things like 3-bean salad typically do not appeal to me. But somehow Mazah can make cold beans amazing. Cabbage salad? Wow. Falafel? So good. And the hummus... The smoothest, creamiest, those-are-chickpeas?, most delicious hummus I've had in my life. And we're not even to main dishes yet! I usually go with the chicken Shawarma- boneless, skinless breasts seasoned with "Family Spices". It seems simple, but it is so good. I've had the chicken kebob as well, which means grilled, not skewered, as an FYI. Also very good, very juicy. Plus! They do vegan, vegetarian, or gluten free menus if you need! Every part of Mazah is accommodating. I have had wonderful service every time I've gone there- lunch or dinner. As I was waiting for my food I read the review they have sitting in their restaurant and whoever wrote this review must have been drunk! He said that this place does not supply alcohol, when in fact today I observed they do have a full service bar there. If I were to stay I would have ordered myself a drink. The deal is definitely good here for the items on the menu. I like the combination idea of adding two sides of either hummus, greek salad, baba ganoush, tabouli, Mediterranean potato salad or rice. I'm happy I got this Groupon and also I'm happy I was able to get the better half to actually try some great Middle Eastern food. Even though he claims he only ordered the shawarma because Ironman says in Avengers you have to try the shawarma. Funny as it is, he actually liked his meal! first time here and loved it! food was good and the interior decorating is gorgeous. you can also choose to eat out front on grandview avenue if you'd like. everything seemed aptly priced and most meals had the option of a la carte or platter, which would include rice, pita and two sides. fantastic presentation too. the pickled turnips are made in-house, and are very good according to the mother-in-law! less one star...they have a liquor license so they should use it! they only had 3 beers on draft. also, the fatayer was just so-so. read more

This place is really fabulous. I've walked past it several times while heading to other spots on Grandview Avenue, but I never stopped in until a month or so ago. Now I don't know how I ever lived without it. I tried the Greek salad and tzatziki; both were fabulous. Oh: And it provided more than enough pita, too. (It always drives me nuts when Greek places don't give you enough pita!) I also like that Mazah offers small and large plates, so you can try several different items without breaking the bank. I was having a really bad day. Falafel is my go-to fast comfort food. I hadn't had any falafel in Columbus, so I headed to my trusty Yelpers for advice. After looking at several menus, I chose Mazah because they were one of the few restaurants that said they served pickles on their roll-up sandwiches. Pickles and turnips are secret keywords for good Middle Eastern sandwiches, seriously. If there aren't pickles, it isn't legit. I ordered for carry out and the person who answered the phone was nice, and told me my order would be ready in 10 minutes. When I arrived, however, my order wasn't ready, so I had to wait another 5 minutes. Which is okay, but moderately annoying. Thus, the minus one star. My order was a falafel sandwich with tzatziki, and an order of meaty grape leaves. The falafel itself was perfect, flavorful with delicious spices, and crispy but not greasy. The tzatziki was big chunks of cucumbers, which was a little weird, but tasty and garlicky. The grape leaves were excellent - not dried out, with great sour flavor in the leaves and good spice flavor on the inside. I'm going to try Alladin's next time, but I'll be back here for sure! read more

The Grandview Avenue area has seen a good amount of restaurants over the years. Dating to my grandparents' era, trendy restaurants and shops have been the norm here. Survival in this area requires the basics: good product (food) and great service. Mazah fits both of these. Although I have only dined her once, we came for a party with some family members who have been multiple times. My family members grew up in Grandview, but lived in the Middle East for three decades. When it came time to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary, they chose Mazah as the place to gather and eat. Service was excellent. The owner and managers were over the top nice. It was like they became part of our family (or vice versa). Food - and we ate a lot of it - was as good of middle eastern/mediterranean as I have ever tasted. Pitas, hummus and baba ghanoush to start, I am not sure if the pickle plate is normally served, but all we excellent. I am not a big fan of lentil soup, but with a bit of salt and pepper it was tasty. We tried the chicken shwarma and the kefta kacob. Both were huge plates with tasty meat served over yellow rice, with a roasted sweet onion. The final course was baklava and another pastry that was out of this world. It was so good, most people didn't want any of the cake. When in Columbus, I would not hesitate to come back here again for lunch or dinner. LOVE the sampler. Get it if you're on a date with your significant other or your best friend. It's $22 and it will fill you up and make your entire being so happy to be alive. You each get to pick a soup or salad (go for the lentil soup, unless it's brown lentil...make sure it's the red lentil), then you split a bunch of dips (babaganoush, hummus, potato salad, veggie/bean salad) that you can eat with soft, pillow-like, hot pita bread, and then a rice dish with a meat of choice and a few balls of falafel. I have to say the chicken shawarma beats out the beef. I'll get the beef and then immediately regret not getting the chicken. Side note but they ran out of their usual red lentils the last time we went. So disappointing..I thought the soup was a bit off color but didn't think much of it. Then we realized it just wasn't as tasty as usual. Alas, they were waiting for a shipment of their usual red lentils. I hope they get stocked up soon...it's just not the same! read more

I'm a big fan of a nearby Mediterranean eatery, so I was curious to compare it with Mazah. We ordered the "couples sampler" platter and, wow, was it a lot of food! The sampler starts with salad or soup (or one of each if you've selected the couples version). Both were delicious. The pita bread was fresh and fluffy and was easy to stuff if you like to make little pocket "sandwiches" out of the various salad and dip options in the sampler. The couples sampler ($20) includes the following: fava bean dip, baba ghanoush, hummus, tsatzsiki, tabouli, 3 bean salad, mediterranean potato salad, cabbage salad, rice, 2 pieces of falafel, one meat or veggie entree (we got Chicken Shawarma) and pita bread. Needless to say, we had leftovers! We also opted to get a side of falafel, because you can never have too much falafel! The large sampler is similar but has a few less items included and costs $13. The small sampler ($8) does not include an entree but does include 2 pieces of falafel along with hummus, fava bean dip, 3 bean salad, mediterranean potato salad and rice. It's big enough for lunch for one person and could easily be shared among several as an appetizer. For you mayonnaise-haters out there, it's notable that the potato salad is mayo-free. Also, worthy of note, you can get gluten-free crackers and veggies as a substitute for the pita for $1.50. I'll definitely return to Mazah. Someday I may try something other than the sampler, but it was such a good price for so much food, it'll be hard to talk myself into ordering "just one" item from the regular menu (all of which sound delicious, by the way). read more

I took my Grandma out to Mazah for Valentine's Day dinner this year. She has never had Mediterranean food so I was hoping the restaurant would pleasantly surprise her palate. We had the falafel for an appetizer and it was cooked perfect. Some places have over cooked this delicious snack. The rest of the food was pretty good, but what amazed me was the service. The manager (I assume), check in on us quite a few times to make sure everything was going well. He even explained some of the art pieces to us. At the end of the meal we were presented with Turkish coffee on the house! It was extremely flavorful & I loved the traditional cup that it was served in. The decor was bright and airy, but the tables were a little too close to each other. (They are reopening into a larger location soon, thus this particular issue should be eliminated). This is the first time I have awarded 5 stars to a restaurant in which my first visit was because of a Groupon. We all know the marketing strategy of a Groupon and it actually worked to the benefit of the restaurant this time--my experience will make me want to be a repeat customer and pay full price! I ordered take-out for my family while at work and stopped by en route to pick-up. Everything was ready and the staff was very friendly. I was in and out in a few minutes. My sister and I got sandwiches and my brother got the greek salad topped with a chicken kabob. I also ordered a tub of hummus (comes by the lb.) and a bag of pita to accompany. The hummus was the perfect consistency (not gritty in the least!) and a little less salty than I've had at equivalent restaurants. I liked it a lot. It was like a savory "frosting" atop pita. My brother loved his salad, especially the house greek dressing that it came with. My sandwich was a pita stuffed with veggies, falafel, hummus and tzatziki. I asked for additional hot sauce and it was delightful. Spicy & flavorful--the best kind! I will definitely be back again--maybe even dine-in. I'd been wanting to try Mazah for awhile now. Motivated by my 10% SBB card discount, my husband and I decided to make this the place for a little date. Like Laura, we also ordered the couple's sampler, with salads and grilled lamb. The big standout here was the lamb - cooked to an absolutely perfect medium, with a good balance of fat and lean. The assortment of dips and sauces was a lot of fun - creamy hummus, tangy tzatziki, smoky baba, and a savory bean puree. The salads were fresh with bright lemon and herb dressing, and topped with wonderful sheep's milk feta cheese. Absolutely delicious. Hands down my favorite place to eat so far in Columbus. After several disappointing places in Columbus that don't live up to the hype I'm so glad to finally found a place that does! Food tastes so great and FRESH! I feel healthy just eating it. You get a lot for your money which is a great thing. It's been awhile so it's not fresh in my mind but the chicken I got was good - and the other person I was with got the steak/beef and that was also good. Try it. Everything we tried was delicious, not just good but delicious! (Oh one thing was just good and not amazing: the hummus. I have been to the old Mazah location several times but tonight was my first time in their new space- it is larger and more modern, with more seating inside and a larger patio. The food continues to be delicious. I got the chicken kebab platter which had a nice char on it and is a good amount of food for $15. For sides I went for the hummus -which is truly the creamiest I have ever tasted- and the falafel which has somehow gotten even better in this new location. The falafel is the best I have had in Columbus to date, with a nice crust and super creamy inside once you cut into it. I am also a huge fan of their red lentil soup which comes with crispy fried pita strips, though it was a little too hot out to order last night. I now have a new restaurant to frequent in my rotation. This place is excellent. From the food to the service and lovely patio -- it's near perfect. My friend and I went for restaurant week and enjoyed some items from their prix fixe menu. The baba ganoush had the right flavors of creamy and smoky going on. We also had a greek salad, of which I was only partly a fan. The flavors were great, but I found the salad too wet for my taste, so I couldn't really finish it. On to the star: The lamb kebabs were absolutely delicious. I will definitely return for those, which were served on a bed of rice. I am not a big rice eater, but whatever they cook and season the rice with makes it d*mn delicious and I ate almost all of it. We tried a delightful, heavenly dessert called kataifi (I think that's how you spell it) which was (I later found) kataifi dough with a creamy cheese baked in the middle then topped with pistachio and honey. OMGsh ... it's definitely different and not as sweet as American dessserts--one of the reason I liked it. As I ate it, I kept wanting to eat more and more of it. Holy smokes!! What a gem! Came in tonight for restaurant week menu of only $15 for three savory courses and I'm very impressed. sat at the bar as a party of one at 730pm on a Monday. Relatively busy for the day but service was stellar. Immediately greeted by hostess and the manager/owner(?) herself asked for my order. It's a small little spot but they've utilized the space well without making it feel crowded. I also love that they have gluten-free or vegan alternatives to almost everything on the menu!! I got: (for $15!!!) A. the fattoush salad: diced parsley, cucumber, tomato, red onion, green pepper, and spices with a side of homemade pita chips: A+, it was incredibly flavorful and crisp and fresh. Just like I like it. B. Zahar bread: flat bread with spices and sesame seeds and a fresh yogurt dip. First time I've tried but I dig it. C. Lamb kebab with rice: lamb was perfectly cooked to medium ( you have the option of choosing your level of fineness) and the rice was so moist and delicious and filled with flavor. With mixed reviews of this place, I wasn't sure what I was getting into. This is on grandview and there was plenty of street parking. We walked in and order drinks. The drinks were very strong and delicious. We split a chicken shwarma dinner sampler that came with 2 starters (choice of soup or greek salad), Hummus, Baba Ghanoush, Three Bean & Cabbage Salad, and 2 falafel balls. Another person had a Kefta Kabob. The food had good sized portions and was very very fresh. We split a dessert of Kenafi -- good but not your typical dessert. Can't wait to return! read more

Mazah-- possibly one of my favorite restaurants in Columbus? I only wished I lived closer. Delicious, cheap food; excellent service; relaxed and interesting atmosphere. It was a beautiful evening when my friend and I went there, so we decided to eat in their (extremely small!) patio area to people watch and catch the breeze. The indoor seating area is also extremely small-- this place holds like 20 people max-- but the warm colors and wall-hangings made it seem inviting. Next time! We ordered the couples sampler, which was $20 and came with an outrageous amount of food: baba ganoush, hummus, tzatziki, some strange and tasty potato salad, fava bean dip, three bean salad, falafel, pita-- as well as two soups or salads and an entree. My friend had the Greek salad and liked it, saying it was pretty standard; my feelings on my lentil soup were similar. The entree we got was spanakopita, which was appropriately rich with a light and flaky crust. The service was fast and friendly, and we chatted with our waitress a bit about the owner (Lebanese, I think) and how business has been doing. She was extremely sweet and answered some random questions I had about spice mixtures. If anything, I'd say the staff was slightly too attentive at times... which was strange, because they were quite busy! But overall we were both really satisfied. Definitely worth a visit! read more

We decided to try Mazah today after searching through our Prestige Dining Club book for places to have lunch. I love this type of food but my hubby is not however, he actually declared that he thought this could be his new favorite place. I ordered the Kibbeh Sounniehe platter which came with a generous portion of hummus and taboli. The hummus had a nice garlic hint to it and I loved it. I even bought a half pound to take home at quite a reasonable price ($5.95 a pound). The plate was packed and the food was great. My husband had the kabob of the day and his plate was just as packed. He is not a big hummus fan but enjoyed this one. The service was great - 3 separate waitresses made sure we had been helped and the food came out fast. The menu prices were so reasonable as well. A friend was visiting from out of town and really wanted to try Mazah...sadly she was running late and the restaurant was closed by the time we arrived. They close mid-afternoon to prep for the dinner hour. We walked down the street to Aab, but it was closed as well. So we headed back to try Aladdin's (she's already familiar with it because she lives in Cleveland and wanted to try something new). So...as we're walking by Mazah, the owner happened to be out setting the outdoor tables and greeted us and asked how we were doing. I had to be honest... "Great! But we'd be better if you were open!" Lo and behold, he scooted us into the restaurant and we were promptly served by a very sweet waitperson. We were really touched by the treatment. They were prompt with the food, did not act like it was inconvenient to serve us during off hours AND we had a delicious meal.
