The reviews are not my experience. The food is decent but not something worth driving to the other side of Framingham for. I believe Aztec and Sol De Mexico are superior to Mazatlan. Very crowded at 7pm tonight, I'm happy for them. Parking lot was full and waited 16 minutes for a table. They are understaffed and lack a dedicated hostess, they are hiring one if you know anyone. Standard chips and salsa provided when you seat. Nothing there to really write about. The salsa did taste fresh which was good and the chips were warm. First off the Mazatlan Sampler, nachos, cheese quesadilla, wings, taquitos and flautas. The cheese quesadilla was very skimpy, think 6 inch flour tortilla with American cheese inside. Wings were good and moist with crispy coating. The flautas and taquitos were good as well. Decent sampler. Baja Chimichanga with chicken. The chicken had a good Smokey chipotle flavor to it. The chimichanga was not fried long enough and was left soggy lacking that crunch you want with one. Maybe 1 more minute in the fryer would have got it there. Tacos De Birria. I love tacos. I eat minimum 8-10 a week at home. Quick easy and delicious. Birria tacos are great when done right and I know I haven't mastered them because it takes hours and love. Two things I lack! The meat was well stewed and flavorful, only one side of the tacos were grilled, both should be. The consume was good as well but normally it will have some of the meat left over in it. This was strained and had onion and cilantro thrown in before serving. Refried Beans and Rice. Beans were watery fell right through the fork no substance. The rice was flavored well and nice. I could probably eat the rice alone if needed and be happy. I can absolutely see why people really like this place. For me being within walking distance of Aztec I don't see the need to drive for this over that. If you're out and want decent Mexican this place shouldn't disappoint. For me Aztec and Sol De Mexico are still tops and for Birria it's all about La Papusa. read more

Service is good and prompt. Portions are quite big especially the burritos are giant. The restaurant interior is very simple. The food however is by far not the best Mexican food I have had. I had the mole enchiladas. The mole is thin and tasteless. It tastes like peanut butter. Very strange. The enchiladas were solidly filled with fine ground chicken. But they were extremely bland. This is everything you want in a Mexican restaurant! My husband and I have been here several times and have tried different items each time, and they have all been delicious. The portions are big and the drinks are strong! Along with chips and salsa you get a bean dip when you sit down. The fresh guacamole is amazing, but can be a lot for two people. I do not understand the high ratings so far. I love Mexican and try all new local places but don't think I will be back. My first experience was bad. First got ignored at the door by 4 different people and no clear signs for seat yourself/wait to be seated so we finally asked someone do we just sit or someone going to seat us. Then we ordered drinks and waited...no one again until we flagged someone to come over. The meals also took forever. Both items were very bland with no flavor and the steak was very overcooked and tough. Good salsa, Figured I would try again, this time take out and try something different. Ordering on the phone was quick and painless. When I got there I went to pay, the gentleman opened the register said no change and then asked about 6 different people for change and no one seemed to be able to get any. I stood there waiting for 10 minutes. I don't understand how at lunch time you would not have cash in the register. Anyways, the food...birria tacos. The consume was pure grease like the grease that should be used to fry up the tortillas. The refried beans the first visit were bland but better that the whole black beans that come with the tacos. They had a odd flavor as did the rice, after about 3 bits it went in the trash. I will say the birria meat was flavorful but only 1 of 3 tacos had cheese. read more

Elegant food and fine dining make this a place for a special occasion or out of town guests. Not your typical tacos/burritos Mexican restaurant. We ordered two seafood entrees - the PARRILLADA DE MARISCOS and the CAZUELA MAZATLÁ and they were glorious. The margaritas are generous and the chili pepper one was a favorite. We had food catered by Mazatlan for my husband's birthday. Mazatlan was able to accommodate dietary restrictions by providing gluten-free and vegetarian options. We had 2 types of salads; stuffed mushroom caps, cheese lasagna, and sausages with potatoes. Everything was hot and plentiful. When they brought the chips and salsa and bean dip, I was a little disappointed. This Texan likes spicier salsa and the beans were a little bland but a nice addition. But when they brought the meals we ordered, we were sold! My hubs and I shared the enchiladas Mazatlan, which included three different enchiladas and all were amazing. Our daughter got the chicken fajitas and they were incredibly juicy and not at all dry. Our son got a huge burrito and ate every bit of it. The entrees on the other hand are terrible. I don't get it. I tried the steak fajitas. The steak was extremely bland and not cooked well. I also tried the Mazatlan nachos with chicken. The chicken was also terribly bland with hardly any cheese, and super greasy. It also had raw red onion and white onion which overpowered the dish. The salsa is ok, but tastes mainly like oregano. This is a very satisfying family-style Mexican restaurant that does a lot of the little things right. It isn't trying to be some gourmet place; nor does it make a fetish out of offering unusual Mexican dishes. It has a lot of entrees and combos you'd expect, a few you don't, and overall the place is very pleasant and happy. To start with the food. I got a nice big chile verde plate, with tortillas, rice and beans. No, the tortillas weren't homemade. But the verde was satisfying and flavorful, with lots of nice chunks of pork. The obligatory salad in the middle of the plate included, unusually, two nice fresh slices of avocado. My wife had a "white chimichanga," which came with white cheese sauce. She liked it a lot: the beef inside the chimichanga was flavorful and good to eat. And the margarita she had was big, tasty, and satisfying. But the little things really are what make us want to come back. We were greeted warmly. It seems like a family-run place, with lots of people pitching in. We immediately were served chips and salsa, as soon as we sat down, and a plate of bean dip and cotija too--another unusual touch. At one point, I wondered aloud briefly to my wife if they did coke refills--it seems many places don't do them any more. (I was driving, and a little sleepy, so I wasn't having beer.) Just as the words came out of my mouth, one of the staff brought over a fresh coke, without me having to ask for it. Nice. The dining room decor isn't so wonderful, even by conventional Mexican restaurant standards. But you know what? The staff, the general atmosphere, and the family feel more than made up for it. First time I went here everything was good ... just went a second time and wasn't to pleased . First Tito's and cranberry had no taste of alcohol and then my next drink was incredibly strong . Sure strong drinks can be good but I would have much rather have had two enjoyable drinks . Food was not that great for the price. This is an authentic Mexican restaurant. Great service and great food. Loved the chile relleno!

We are here quite frequently as I like Mexican food served hot and in person. I've never been happy with anyplace using delivery. Anyway, they serve a tasty selection, quickly, and with a very friendly staff. We tend to go with tacos and fajitas but were pleasantly surprised by how good the salmon was so I imagine other dishes would be similarly good. The bar staff adds a lot to the enjoyment with great drinks and conversation. Seems to be a great place for family gatherings that happen frequently when we're there. Go to the rear room if you want more kid space, but we prefer the bar area which is more lively but still fine for the family. As an extra they have a great Mariachi band there on Sundays 6-9pm. read more

We also got a Carnita tacos and they were amazing. Very very happy. Everything is very authentic and they have a great selection of tequilas at the bar and very very reasonable prices.
