Along with three other Proud Boys leaders, Tarrio was convicted in May 2023 of seditious conspiracy for his role in the 2021 United States Capitol attack and is serving 22 years in prison. *The Proud Boys is an exclusively male North American far-right, neo-fascist militant organization that promotes and engages in political violence. The group's leaders have been convicted of violently opposing the United States government, including the constitutionally prescribed transfer of presidential power. * The Three Percenters are an American and Canadian far-right anti-government militia. The group advocates gun ownership rights and resistance to the U.S. federal government. * QAnon is an American political conspiracy theory and political movement. It originated in the American far-right political sphere in 2017. QAnon centers on fabricated claims made by an anonymous individual or individuals known as "Q". Those claims have been relayed and developed by online communities and influencers. *White Christian Nationalism - The Christian right, or the religious right, are Christian political factions which are characterized by their strong support of socially conservative and traditionalist policies. Christian conservatives seek to influence politics and public policy with their interpretation of the teachings of Christianity. * The John Birch Society is an American right-wing political advocacy group. Founded in 1958, supports social conservatism, and is associated with ultraconservative, radical right, far-right, and libertarian ideas. Their M4L nationwide newsletter proudly and unapologetically boasts words of Adolf Hitler: "He alone, who OWNS the youth, gains the future." M4L has made its way by "intimidating and harassing teachers and school officials", battling teachers' unions, attacking corporations like Disney that are supportive of LGBTQ+ rights, and supporting and making use of laws like Florida's so-called "don't say gay" statute, which limits classroom discussion of gender and sexual identity. While the group has claimed to be non-partisan, from the beginning it has had close ties to the Republican party, especially in Florida, where it has won the backing of the rightwing governor and 2024 presidential candidate Ron DeSantis. Not impressed. Sadly, because I wanted to like it too. I was actually looking forward to this restaurant since its location is right downtown and I appreciate someone coming in and building in the vacant building. When I saw the sign say "Mazatlan" I grew doubtful because I've visited the location on South Hill and found it to be really bland and uninspired. When I eat at a Mexican restaurant around here, I don't have expectations for something super-authentic, and I have no problem with that. Ive eaten Gringo-fied Tex-Mex food like fajitas and chips and salsa at other restaurants (yes, they were mostly in Texas) but they've been some of the best meals I've ever had. Sadly, Mazatlan doesn't do it for me. The tacos are made with store-bought shells, the beans look like they are from a can, the lettuce is cheap iceburg, and the chips are cold and tough. That about sums it up for the food. The service wasn't much better either, our waiter seemed disinterested in checking in on us and spent most of his time chatting it up with another employee. I went on a weekend night and the place wasn't even half full, so I am wondering if other people may be feeling the same way and are opting to eat elsewhere. read more

I don't usually give reviews below a three star because I know there are places that are far worse than than the places I've been to, but this place was so very disappointing. I was interning with an architect in my area and my boss took me out to lunch here. He ordered for me (I didn't really know what Mexican food was like) and I received a decently prepared plate of food that I felt like I could enjoy. Wrong. I bit into a spoonful of the rice with cheese clumps falling from it and I could feel the ridges of my teeth flattening into a smooth surface. Did they really even cook the rice? It hurt to chew. I asked my boss about it, he spoke to the staff and they showed very little signs of sympathy and I chewed on my clumps of seasoned cheese with a sad face. I want better Mexican food. Even Chipotle tasted better than what I had at Mazatlan. :( read more

We had a very interesting experience at a new restaurant during our first visit yesterday. The complimentary chips were excellent, but the salsa was not as good. For our entrees, we both ordered fajitas. I chose the chicken and beef mix, while my daughter opted for the chicken, beef, and shrimp trio. Both entrees were intriguing. The fajitas were presented on plates with small meat pieces, and the shrimp still had their tails on. The meat was overly seasoned and had a peculiar taste. However, the rice and beans were delicious. Additionally, the sodas were priced at $4 each, and our total bill came to $68.24 before the tip. On the positive side, the restaurant was exceptionally clean, and the staff provided amazing customer service. read more

This place is at the end of our street. We have been saying we need to try it. Well, we tried it and won't be going back. The food was so bland. Even the salsa needs help. Chips were very good though. The best part was the service. Wish we could get the servers to make the food, then it would be good food. We all got pretty bad diarrhea!!! read more

Stopped in to grab a bite and have gone back a few times since. The servers are friendly and the atmosphere is good. I enjoy the various dishes they offer and I enjoy the fact that I can bring my family for a nice meal. read more
