I cannot begin to tell you what a waste this restaurant is. We had a terrible experience here about a year ago and thought we'd try it again thinking maybe it'd been an off night when we went last time. The service is TERRIBLE, they don't bring chips and salsa until you order like they expect everyone to "dine and dash" or mooch free chips with their watery salsa, the lady who brought us waters practically threw them on the table, the server was practically yelling at us when he came to take our order, the food was overpriced considering what comparative offerings other Mexican restaurants have in this area, they never check in on your meal and our steaks were way over cooked with no flavor, not even salt. Save your money and go to el toro on canyon or another Mazatlan location. Heck, get some tacos at jack in the box. Those taste better than this place. Surprised they're even open honestly. read more

I wish I could give this place negative ZERO stars. This is the absolute WORST experience my family and I have at a restaurant, EVER! We used to be regulars here and the service in the last 6 months has gone down hill to say the least. Today the **first** incident was that my boyfriend found a piece of paper in our chips. Upon closer inspection I realized it was a sugar packet end. A piece of ***GARBAGE*** in our chips. Why would this happen? Because they just recycle the chips from baskets that don't get eaten when they clean the tables and put them in a catch all under a heat lamp and re-serve them!! They serve customers Trash. In their food. TRASH. When I told the girl at the counter she was confused at first, when I brought to her attention that it was trash in our food, she rushed off with the offending plate and we were (not quickly) supplied a second.... which was probably the 4th or 5th time some of those chips had been served that day. The second incident was that when we ordered our meals my aunt's chimichanga had verde sauce all over it here is the description directly from the menu: CHICKEN CHIMICHANGA $9.75 Flour tortilla filled with chicken breast, deep-fried and served with melted Monterey jack cheese. Served with guacamole, sour cream and pico de gallo. No mention of verde sauce, anywhere. When she brought it to the server's attention he became **VISIBLY** annoyed. I'm sorry, but when you work in the service industry little things like this shouldn't be annoying, it's part of the job. When they brought her replacement the frickin thing was FULL of verde sauce, and missing the Monterey Jack cheese. Must have been a surplus of verde sauce because they were just itching to get rid of it! No, passive aggressive behavior is apparently one of their specialties here. Too bad good food isn't. Or new chips for that matter. Also, both my boyfriend and I had dried out funky rice (heat lamp special), dry tough meat and just an overall poor experience. We felt rushed (which happened last time but we let it go) and every 2 minutes someone was asking how we were doing to the point that it became irritating, they wouldn't just let us enjoy our garbage chips and over-abundance of verde in peace! Now, obviously if you start looking for the negatives, you'll find them, but from the get go there wasn't anything good going on here.... it's really too bad this place used to be pretty rad. You're better off going to the Mexican restaurant just up the road, closer to he mall, that place kicks a$$!! read more

My husband and I went there this last sunday, It to long to get our chips and salsa. We put in our order then asked for more salsa for our dinner, they said they could only give us one more( that being a total of three); We the asked if we could pay for the salsa and the said yes., it turned out to be $ 1.75 per serving (which we estimated to be a little more than a shot glass). So a jar of salsa would have cost about $ 15.00. I told the waitress that at Puerto Vallarta they give you all you want,she stated that it is very expensive. So I asked for my meal to go and went to puerto Vallarta to buy some salsa and eat at home. PS: On our ticket we were charged $ 1.00 for salsa, and its not that great of salsa! They finally opened this place after like five years of saying "coming soon". Well we decided to go here for lunch, and man was I disappointed. We got the chips and they were soft and chewy, not cooked at all. When we asked for some new ones the waiter seemed very agitated, and told the bus boy to come and get new chips very rudely. After that they treated us like we were going to complain about everything. You know that attitude, when you order its quick no eye contact and they grab the menus out of your hand and rush so they don't have to deal with you. We never saw our waiter again until we got our bill. Then they gave us the wrong bill, and when asked for the right one he insisted that was the right one. I din't order two tacos man I know what I ate. Whether the bill is cheaper or not I always pay for the right thing, its a moral thing. And Mexican restaurants need to realize that other people know how to speak and understand spanish, and when you gonna insult somebody under your breath better make sure they haven't taken that language deuch bag. So I will never go here again. Oh and if you live in this area parking sucks and its either street or around the corner. Walkings no big deal to me, but some people it is so heads up. read more

If you would've asked me to review this restaurant a month ago I would've immediately selected a five. Unfortunately after last week's fiasco they would get a zero if I could. Firstly, I ordered an deluxe enchilada meal with beef for takeout I also expressed that I have Celiac disease and I cannot have gluten or I would end up in the ER, and I asked for chips and salsa, I didn't know they charged for chips and salsa, oh well that is the least of the pain ahead. I received my order and drove home, this was my cheat meal mind you and I was spent from the gym. I get home and open the container and thought hmm where are the rice and beans and why is the enchilada so BIG, with all of the cheese, guacamole and onions I couldn't tell if it was a flour (deadly) or corn (safe) tortilla. So, I pulled off the smallest piece known to man and was mortified it was FLOUR! By this time I was VERY tired and extremely hungry so I drove over 20 minutes back to the restaurant and asked what is this, the two gals behind the counter seemed very amused I was calm but very upset. When I asked where were the rice and beans the gal sarcastically said there in the burrito, the Manadero burrito. Hmm I then stated I didn't order a burrito I ordered the deluxe enchilada plate, by this time the two women giggled and whispered to each other and one went back to the kitchen. Then a older lady came up to the register and the two spoke in Spanish to each other and although I was freaked they were never apologetic EVER. I received my enchilada deluxe meal and was told well we helped you out it would've been $1.50 more, WOW if only I would've been rung up correctly in the first place and received the right food, just WOW. Anyhow, I received a special gift from their mistake and from an unfortunate taste test, my sinuses swelled and a sinus infection resulted from the histamine response from the gluten in the flour tortilla. I WILL NEVER COME HERE AGAIN. I recommend this place to know one, because of the lack of empathy and because I was treated so poorly, and if you are gluten intolerant or have Celiac disease NEVER go to this restaurant. read more

I went there for dinner with a friend. She found a piece of metal in her food. She almost swallowed this piece of metal. We bring this to the waiter's attention. He laughs and says it's a piece of the chicken shredder. He then calls over another waiter and shows him. They both laugh saying that yes it's part of the chicken shredder. Then, they show the piece of metal to another waitress who laughs it off, too. No apologies. read more

I love this place. An overwhelming majority of the meals we've had have been very good (once in a long while they have a bad night, but it's not common for us). My boys love the #9 chimichanga / enchilada combo - it's always hot & yummy. My wife and I both love the fajitas, but I occasionally opt for the Tacos Al Carbon. We've been visiting this restaurant so long that we get multiple hugs whenever we arrive. Some of the employees still remember when they used to pass our babies around to show them off & give them love... those kids are now high school & college students (and one's a working nurse). A lovely family owns & operates this place, and a majority of the staff is hard-working and fun to be around. (And no, we don't know these folks outside of the business... we're customers who they've made feel like family). It's definitely not the more modern, tex-mex fresh-type of menu, but it's hot, good food and a great value considering the sizable portions. Definitely check it out! read more

Amazing!!! After reading some reviews that were rather negative mainly about the service, we decided to give this place a try. I have been looking for the original Arroz con Pollo for a couple of years now, as other places have started adding green peppers and a sweet tomato sauce to it and it's gross!! Not here!!?, they have the BEST Arroz con Pollo I have had in so long it was delicious!! As far as the service?? I don't know what people are talking about! Pancho, our waiter was super!! Yulissa was great too!! We started noticing the service as a whole when other servers came by and asked how we were doing. Everyone was working together as a team! I was completely in awe of this. I actually asked to speak to the manager to give positive feedback because of the reviews I had read about service here. This place, for sure, is our go to Mexican food restaurant!! I am confused of why this place is regarded so highly in this town. I just moved here from California, where the Mexican food is the closest you'll get to the real deal on the West Coast. Due to that fact, I wasnt expecting it to be the same which I think is fair. Though how I was treated and what I recieved as food was far below my expectations and I was appauled. Let me share my experience with you all: Our waittress took my group to our taknble and asked us what we would like to drink. We placed our drink orders and I let her know we were waiting for the rest of our group to arrive to order the food, and she said it was fine. It took the remainder of my group a good 15 minutes to arrive, during this time I asked the waittress if we could have our chips and salsa, it'd been a while and they were busy so I assumed they forgot. She told me you have to place an order before recieving complimentary chips and salsa. After watching so many tables seated and parties recieving chips and salsa with their menus, it was obvious I was lied to and stereotyped as a broke 20-something in there to rip them off of their precious chips and salsa and not order any food, when in reality I just wanted the same treatment as other customers and something to munch on before my friends arrived. One of the rudest experiences Ive had dining out. After the rest of he group got there, we ordered our food and waited a good 10 more minutes for our chip basket. When we finally recieved our food, which took forever, it was lukewarm and it was obvious it had been sitting. The food has no flavor to it at all, it was unexcusably bland for mexican food. When the waittress asked how the food was, I spoke up and let her know I thought it was terrible. She seemed defensive, as though I just insulted her by telling her my food was bland and cold. Her smile disappeared very quickly and she said that I shouldve let her know sooner (presumably before I ate too much of it) before telling me she was sorry. She walked away abruptly while I was trying to ask for something else, and didn't tell me if she was going to fix my check, grab a manager, nothing! Not one word about how this was going to be resolved! So seeing as I recieved horrible food and offensive service, I walked out right after that and never looked back!!! This place is awful. I had to send my dinner back 3 times as the cheese in my enchiladas wasn't melted. The 3rd time I said forget it the waitress asked if I wanted something else so I chose the taquitos. Mind you my husband had long since finished. They bring me these taquitos and they were horrible! Then we get our bill and they still want to charge us 50%of the food I didn't get to eat. I said no way so the waitress for the manager. He sat at our table and said the cook said i had eaten half of my food I said no I didn't. He takes his wallet out cuz he's going to pay for the half the cook charged. And then went on about the manager that works 7 days a week from 9 to 9 is in the hospital and he's just trying to help out while he's gone. He said that the cheese is from darigold and sometimes there's more oil in eat and that's why it doesn't melt. He said he didn't want to argue with the cook because he's an ass. I couldn't believe what was coming out of his mouth. I'm not happy I don't need excuses I need customer service. I will never go there again! !! read more

We stopped here for dinner after being at the hospital all day while one of my daughters was in. We had the happy hour menu items one which was very good and one which was very cold so they brought us a new one which when it got there it was still cold but this time the shells was burned and one tasted like mold. Our waitress didn't seem to care about this so when we paid I said something to the girl taking the money. She informed us that the item was made fresh and there was no way it could of had mold on it. She then rolled her eyes and left. When she came back there was a gentlemen with her who started yelling at us and told us if you don't want to pay then don't. He told us that we was ridicules and just don't pay the bill our waitress came over to the counter and started in on us along with like a group of 5 people. I will never go back there again. Food is beyond excellent. My fiancé had the fish taco's and was in love. My 3 year old son I had a hot dog and said how delicious it was the whole time and asked for another one. The outside and inside interior looks nice, but the experience was a total fail. My boyfriend and I went here one night for a nice little dinner. It wasn't very busy at all, so I thought there shouldn't be that long of wait. We were seated and handed a menu. We were brought some chips and salsa and placed our drink orders. After about 15 minutes, our chips and salsa were all gone and we were still waiting for our drinks. My boyfriend's beer finally came, my soda didn't, and the server took our order. He brought out more chips and salsa, still no soda after the 2nd time reminding him, and we waited for our food. We both order the Carne Asada, which is under, "The House Specials" section. Our meals finally came out after about 25 to 30 minutes after ordering. IT WAS COLD! And did I mention I still hadn't gotten my diet coke?! At this point we were both pretty upset. I told them it was cold, I didn't get my soda yet and that we were not very happy. The server didn't say much of anything or give any type of discount for our troubles. First, they wouldn't accept their own coupon, saying it's only for the downtown Puyallup Mazatlan. Strike 1. Then we see tiny letters on the bottom of the menu that says that only one basket of chips is complimentary per table. Extra charge after that. More laughable that they're that cheap. But strike 2. Then we are trying to decide what to order and asked if we could have our chips and salsa. The waitress said, NO! Not until after you order. Ok, well you solved that problem. Since our waiter (who said his name was Pedro) wasn't coming around to check on us, and our party of 5 had been out of chips, salsa and water for quite some time, we asked him for extra chips and salsa when he finally came around with the water. He refused and said only one basket per table is allowed. We then told him that's fine, but then he needs to check in on us every once in a while. He then said he would get somebody else and walked away. About 5 minutes later he came back, and asked for our order now that we "had time to cool down." We were dumbfounded. We simply asked for basic service! We told him he was being rude and condescending and we asked to speak with the manager. Then he said we needed to leave and that we were banned from the restaurant! No joke! We then insisted on speaking with a manager, but after another 5 minutes of waiting Pedro came back and conveniently said nobody was available. We have never experienced such disrespect, and it was completely unprovoked and uncalled for. My family has been going there regularly for over a decade. The owner (whom I have met and find delightful) and I are going to have a chat about this Pedro character soon. We walked out without ordering dinner and will not be returning until we have been assured Pedro is gone. read more

Have been going here to this location since it opened. I love it and the food is great. The only complaint I have is now they won't give you chips and salsa until you order your food. Not getting it as we love to eat the chips until our food comes. Now If you order food the chips and food come in about same time. That is the only complaint all else is excellent. read more

This is the best Mexican restaurant I've ever eaten at. All of the staff are amazing and the food is always exceptional.

I've been here before and it was great, but tonight I walked in with 3 adults, 2 middle school kids and an infant. They walked us to a booth, I asked for a table, they obliged. That's where our service ended. We sat there with no water, silverware, chips, not ONE person came up to the table. I couldn't tell whose section we were in because we saw multiple waiters and waitresses helping other tables. They were not packed, so we waited sitting there for more than enough time. I had to go ask for a menu because we didn't have enough. We even made bathroom trips to wash hands and still no one. I locked eyes with a few people thinking they were coming to our table but they all turned to the kitchen. I don't know what the issue was but their loss was El Toro's gain. If I could leave no stars as an option I would. My Mom and I visited this Puyallap branch of Matzatlan this afternoon. We should of have walked out when we were "greeted" by the hostess. What a sourpuss. Once seated we were brought chips. Rancid ones. Good thing they were too nasty to want more. Who CHARGES for more chips. Isn't that the reason to go to a mexican restaurant....chip and salsa refills? Charge for pico de gallo....charge for drink refills, as if 2.49 wasn't insult enough for a beverage. Ordered the steak lunch special. Described as juicy and tender by the waitress. 9.99 for less than 4oz. of the the toughest, gristled steak I have ever come across...most of it came home to feed the dogs. Even they turned up their noses at it. Condiments 2.00 extra. More tortillas, you guessed it extra cost. Go somewhere else...even Taco Bell beats this place. Eating with Tim & company. This restaurant doesn't seem to handle a large crowd too well. We are here for a birthday party and its a very large party which reservations were made plenty in advance. They sat us in a small section, understaffed, the lady Mariela was very rude and said they are charging extra for chips? This is probably the worst restaurant on Meridian. My 2 friends and I went there on a Tuesday afternoon and were greeted decently. But after we were seated it all went to garbage from there. We ordered our food and had to ask for the chips and salsa to be brought out. After we finished the first basket of chips, we asked one of the waitresses very nicely if we could please get more. And instead of replying with "of course" or a simple "yes", she simply turned around and walked away without saying anything, as if she wasn't getting payed to work there or that it wasn't her job to help customers. We didn't really mind it too much but it was like a big FU to our faces! Finally when our food came out, my plate had a hair in it. We then very politely let our server know about it, and he was genuinely nice about it and brought me a new one. My friends then had to wait and couldn't enjoy their food because they were waiting for my other plate to come out. And as if it couldn't get any worse, when my plate came and we started to enjoy our food, we noticed ANOTHER hair in our salsa bowl! We immediately lost our appetite after that and just left the place with disgust and heavy disappointment!!! That just leads me to think how low their sanitation is and how much their employees don't care about their jobs or their customers!!!! I've eaten at this Mazatlan many many times before and have had decent service nothing above and beyond but decent enough to come back. That being said, yesterday I had the worst service ever! One of the things I look forward to most at any Mexican restaurant is the chips and salsa so I was bummed when our chips were burnt when they came out. I tried to ignore it but thought it would be worth it to ask for a new basket. This was our first mistake. Our server was ticked instantly and told the server next to her "they think the chips are too crispy" in an irritated tone. So she brought out new chips 6 to be exact, and they were still burnt. We'd just have to deal with it. Our next offense was asking for extra salsa with dinner, there were three of us so we asked for 3. Server response: "three!" then walked away. After about ten minutes and our server passing us 4 or 5 times, another server came by and asked if we needed anything, we told him we asked for 3salsas and he said "well it's policy to only give 2" so I said can we get 2 then? (better then none right). Ten minutes later he brought us 3 salsas. I couldn't wait to leave! Our original server glared at us every time she passed the table and refilled my drink once when we were about to leave. Geez! I knew I shouldn't have mentioned the chips! I will not go back based on this experience because of the way I felt when I left. read more

Nailbanger Here Again;Had not eaten here for about 5 years now,what`s new you ask? The menu is about the same, but more expensive.The decor is about the same.The food was below average at best and Gringo Style. Simply put it is just not authentic in flavor. Mexican food should be a-bit spicy, fresh and full of flavor. The Salsa was the first sign of Gringo food,watery tomato sauce with chunky onion and not much else.The enchilada sauce was flavorless.My wife got the Chicken Enchilada with rice and refried beans. I got the Combo Plate with Picadillio Enchilada and Taco with a Bean Tostada and there version of a Authentic Chili Relleno. The Picadillo was in a thick red sauce I did not care for and the Relleno that was $2 dollars more and was extremely oily and had a strange taste to it.This is evident as you can see by the two extremes in reviews, that many people simply have never had Great Authentic Mexican Cuisine.Only you can be the Judge of what works for you.
