Great customer service the food is pretty good warning it does come with a green pepper that looks like a cucumber. But it's not. It's a very very very hot chili. It's super healthy made with no oil / seed oil. I never feel sick after eating this. Everything is made to order and the flavors are perfect! I love how kind the guy who works on the weekend is, he always has a smile on his face and he's so accommodating. They open at 10, so I guess the cook comes in at 9, does all the cooking, and then leaves. When I show up at 6, it takes ten minutes to assemble overcooked, dried out chunks of animal protein - no kabobs here - lukewarm rice, assorted vegetables, the everpresent hummus, and the saddest "pita" it's ever been my misfortune to encounter. Tried MAZAYA for the 1st time this week. Bought the lamb kabob meal and was a bit disappointed. One of the key items for Mediterranean meals was missing. GARLIC SAUCE! I mean how do you run out? Or better yet, why not make more? It only takes 20 min. As I waiting, I saw order after order going out without this the sauce. The sauce is pretty much a staple to most of their meals as well as Mediterranean in general. It would be one thing to say they buy it and don't make it, but it's an item they make and as long as the meals take to prepare they had time to make plenty for the rest of the night vs. telling ea. customer they don't have any. I mean, the meals aren't inexpensive fast food and to try and eat the meal without it, was just plain and extremely dry. Have to say, while I try to eat this I've become very disappointed and couldn't finish it. First time visitor. This Mediterranean Grill is located in a large strip mall. There is plenty of parking for everyone Upon entering this restaurant, the aroma of fresh food filled the air. The menu boards are clearly displayed behind the counter, each table is fully stocked with napkins & condiments and the place is very clean and organized. The employee (a young man) I saw and had contact with very welcoming, professional and excited when I was a first time visitor and discovered this place via Yelp. Now to the best part, the food. It was pure perfection. The food here was so fresh, tasty and though the portions were large, the goodness left my he craving more. So much so that I, "convinced" my daughter that she was full just so I could have the rest of her chicken and hummus. First time doing such a thing (yeah, right!) I have ordered from here on several occasions and each time is a thumbs up. The meat is just really good, whether it's chicken or beef, especially the shawarma. They marinate the food/meat very well. The sides are very tasty as well. If you order a chicken or beef plate, each comes with hummus, a side salad and one full pita bread. The price is very reasonable for the deliciousness that this restaurant offers. And the guy who works at the front, probably the son of the owner, is pretty nice. He should smile more. Lol. But the Indian restaurant next door, was delish. But more on the food from Mazaya. Everything from the rice to the protein was dry and lacked the flavor and spices you'd expect from this type of establishment. It's all just like of blended together. Out of business for a few weeks now. Such a bummer because this place had absolutely wonderful food. Wondering if the closure had to do with the unpleasant worker that was rude to customers and got food orders often incorrect because he was too busy on his cell phone. Possibly the continual mistakes were costing the business too much money they couldn't stay open? It got to the point as a 1-2x week consumer myself or my family members would check the take-out food at the counter before leaving... this particular employee would get upset when he was shown the order was incorrect. I never would review this business because I loved their food and wouldnt want them to have anything less than 5 stars and one bad employee would not deter me from ordering from here no matter how unpleasant he was. Nor would I lower my score because of him... so I opted out of reviewing until now. I am only posting this for Ali's benefit (The owner of this restaurant) whom hopefully will re-open and be more mindful of his employees; the prices were fair and the food was always tasty / healthy. But again, this business was ran very odd... twice I ordered to go food by phone, drove all the way there and the employee decided to go lock up and home early... didnt even leave my food on the doorstep (even though the business was scheduled to be open at the time I arrived to pick up), and even though I had placed a to go order... no note on the door of any emergencies that took place nor note of apologies, nothing. Food: I've been on the hunt for good Mediterranean food near the Whittier area for a while now, and I think Mazaya may be the spot to come. We ordered the Kafta kabob plate, the Garlic Lemon Shrimp, and the Spicy Potatoes. Everything tasted great, had good flavors, and best of all was super fresh. The Kafta came with pita, hummus, rice, and a small salad. The flavors are something that I havent experienced yet, and were very pleasant. The Garlic Lemon Shrimp was delicious as well, good seasoning and a very large portion. The spicy potatoes are for sure very underrated, I think they may get looked over, but have a wonderful garlicky-lemon taste to them. Restaurant: The shopping center and the restaurant look very unassuming, but just trust the reviews. Inside you will be greeted by cheerful staff, and your food will come out quickly. I thought the chicken was a bit dry. Not too flavorful either. Could be the fact that this is an authentic place and we were just not used to less flavorful Mediterranean foods. Does taste homey. Quantity was definitely worth the price. You get tons off food. Hummus was prob the best part of the meal. Rich and creamy just the way we like it Beef shwarma tasted a bit tough. Also the flavor was not something we are used to. A bit earthy and oily at the same time. A little hard to put into words. I'm sure for some folks this is a good place to have Mediterranean food. I think it might be awhile before we come back. I still think it's worth at least one stop to see if their flavor fits your taste. read more
