I thought the chicken was a bit dry. Not too flavorful either. Could be the fact that this is an authentic place and we were just not used to less flavorful Mediterranean foods. Does taste homey. Quantity was definitely worth the price. You get tons off food. Hummus was prob the best part of the meal. Rich and creamy just the way we like it Beef shwarma tasted a bit tough. Also the flavor was not something we are used to. A bit earthy and oily at the same time. A little hard to put into words. I'm sure for some folks this is a good place to have Mediterranean food. Been here twice so far and both times the food was great and the workers at this family-owned restaurant were very gracious and welcoming. First time- Garlic Lemon Salmon! $17 This time- Lamb Chops!! $19 Also had kibbeh, ground beef and onions in a bulgur wheat shell-a real treat that you don't find everywhere. Authentic, fresh, and delicious Mediterranean food. My family and I frequent Mazaya often and they always provide consistency. We have the habit of coming in before closing (so sorry Mazaya !) and they are always friendly and kind, willing to serve us. Culinary enthusiast and active CDP. Overall a good experience. Food was fresh, and hot. Seasoned enough to enjoy. Could be a bit more aggressive on your lamb protein to improve flavor though. The naan breads are simply pitas and are not served warm. Just out of the bag and in your plate so heads up on that. I do have a bone to pick with there hummus. I had to fix it! I'm a Chef de Parte for an upscale restaurant so my side of "spicy" hummus was actually a bit bland and extremely bitter. They obviously went over board on the olive oil. Just extremely unbalanced which tells me they don't try there own product before they serve. Probably eye balling there ingredients instead of sticking to a recipe. So to fix it, I didn't eat any of the hummus including what was served with my lamb kebab meal. I simply left it. The side of hummus, however, I took it home, added the appropriate amount of lime and seasoned it how it should be to bring out the flavor of the tahini and chick peas..... God damn that shit bangs!!! Not spicy enough but that don't matter because I brought the hummus back to life!!! Take notes Mazaya and preserve your high rating now! My friend and I wanted some dinner and checked out Yelp for restaurants that were offering to go. Found this place on Yelp and we were able to place our order over the phone. The man was super patient and nice. The menu is pretty straightforward. We ordered the chicken kabob and beef kabob. My meal came with tender juicy and well marinated chicken, hummus, grilled jalapeño and onions and lots of veggies! I can't wait to go back and try out their baklava! Cue the instrumental: solid as a rock. This has quickly become one of our favorite takeout spots. It's located right by my in-laws , so whenever the kids are fed already from being at Grandma's, it's great to just pick some food that isn't shaped like a dinosaur* and (more importantly) food that I don't have to make myself. I always swap out the hummus for the eggplant spread, Baba ghanoush. Pardon my spelling, if it's off. It's very kind of them to swap it out for no extra charge. Hubby swears by their spicy hummus. TERRIBLE FOOD. What's the hype that this place got a 4+ stars. Their food is not the same as shown in pictures displaying on the wall and front window. I suggest they take them down. I gave them a second chance after being served on the initial visit with chewy lamb kabob, dry white rice only and no yellow rice insight and dry flat bread. On the second visit they served kafta with frozen instead of fresh ground beef on skewers and salad is drowning with olive oil and not enough spices. The picture on the wall displays all yellow rice but on my plate was white rice and only a few speckles of yellow rice are mixed in. If I have a choice, this place will get a big fat ZERO STAR. This place runs by people who are there for the money and not putting passion in serving good food to the customers. Don't waste your money and don't believe what you read of the stars and the reviews attached to this establishment. I really enjoyed my lamb chops!! My mom got the salmon, she said it was okay but was definitely a good value as she got a lot of salmon, she's super hard to impress :) I wish the spicy potato's were just a bit crispier but they're still yummy. I asked for some garlic sauce to spread on my pita and it is SPICY/strong so you only need a little :) all in all I really enjoyed my meal, my lamb chops were cooked perfectly not dry at All so tender. I've tried this place twice, the first time I got the Kafta plate and the second time the Chicken Tawook. I have to say the chicken was better. The Kafta was on the dry side. I've had The Green Olive and I really like it, so I wanted to try this place. The place is clean and the ambiance is nice. They just have the news on most of the time. Everything is good except for the kafta. The rice, side salad, garlic spread and hummus is all good. They also have a self serve soda fountain. Service was good. No complaints there. The guy was sitting near cash register glued to his mobile device. Did not greet me. Just kept staring at his phone. I knew what I wanted to order,so stood behind the counter near register. It was so awkward! I was about to walk out when he finally stood up. Still no acknowledgement of any sort. The kid did not bother to ask what I wanted to order. After we both just stood there for a while......finally I just ordered the platter. The guy kept coughing without covering his mouth. The ladies kept bringing stainless steel containers of food near the counter window. He continued coughing over that food, he even dipped his finger in his mouth. I was the ONLY customer in the restaurant and the women in the back took forever to make my 1 platter. It sounded like they were having a party back in the kitchen. When my platter was finally ready, the kid did not say one word and literally plopped the food on the table. The chicken is sooooo DRY, and the food was not that good today. Last time it was wonderful. Guess the customer service and the food is horrible when the owner is not present. I will save my hard working money and never return here again! ***I even told the guy, " you must be the owner cause you are just on your phone ignoring customers." His reply, "the owner doesn't care." I certainly wouldn't want this guy representing my business. I just worked 12 hours at the hospital and now I had to deal with this crappy service. He must be the owners son. He does not take pride in his job. So glad my adult kids have amazing character and know how to treat human beings. What a spot! Mazaya has been one of the first Mediterranean places that I've been in while that I was over the moon happy about their food. Where I grew up the local kabobs/ plates were a weekly occasion so moving to the OC there isn't the same vibe. Until now, we found Mazaya not too far from us and decided to give it a shot. Upon walking in we did notice Mazaya was on the smaller more casual side but that did not make it any less than a full scale restaurant. As we were ordering there was a handful of people waiting for their food, good sign right? I opt for the falafel plate, comes with salad, rice, hummus and falafel, ordered a side of soup and extra hummus. As we were waiting for our order we couldn't help but to notice more and more people trickling in picking up phone orders, it was a great sight to see for this small business. A short 10-15 minutes later our food started trickling in. I absolutely loved the lentil soup, it was warm, inviting and the flavors were over the top. I almost had to tear myself away from the soup so I could try the plate, I really enjoyed the falafel plate, each item was spiced well and had that authentic taste. I definitely overshot with how much food I got, there was more than enough leftovers. Overall Mazaya was a great little spot in excited to visit again. read more

One of my go to spots for clean cooking. The salmon is delicious, the kebabs are juicy and tender, grape leaves have great flavor and texture, the spicy potatoes have a great tartness and savory quality from the garlic. The owners operators are very kind and generous with their portions, additions, and even graciously served up a delicious meal in the last 5 minutes of operating. Honestly the quality of food is a fantastic value and finding affordable and accessible Mediterranean food seems to be getting harder and harder to come by, and during the pandemic I was coming here almost weekly. Yes the food is great. But the guy at the register I find him to be very rude. Not friendly and welcoming. I have watched him the last few times we have been there. I saw him being obnoxious with a customer who came for a pick up order. That really made me not like him. Went in again for lunch last week, he was putting something together behind the refrigerator, he could clearly see me waiting for him to come and take my order. Finally I rang the bell and he came, he said nothing about me waiting. He brought our lunch, which was delicious as always. While we were eating our lunch a lady came in and the same thing happened, he completely ignored her. She stood at the counter wanting to order her food. She waited longer for him to take her order than I did, and he was just a few feet from the register. I know he knew she was there, but he just ignored her. I was furious, but I just made up my mind I will not go there again, because of him. I love the food, but we don't need to be treated that way. I have ordered for Mazaya 3 times this week - I recently required a temporary diet change that required low fat intake and Mazaya is one of the only places I feel totally comfortable ordering knowing that it won't cause me any issues, and have continued to go after going back to eating normally. The chicken tawook pita sandwich is my go to, and I order an extra side of garlic because you gotta. The food is fresh and well-prepared. First review since Covid-19 was declared a pandemic. For future, future readers, this pandemic has pretty much shut down most restaurants, bars, eateries and "non-essential" businesses such as salons, massage places, shopping malls, gyms, etc. The few restaurants who have (and can afford) to stay open are scarce, and on top of that, are not able to offer dine-in services. I've made a goal of bookmarking and visiting at least two small businesses each week to help support their business as much as possible. I ordered a takeout order on the phone: chicken shawarma plate $9.99, beef shawarma plate $9.99, and the chicken tawook (skewers) $12.99. Each plate came with: Rice - actually enjoyed the flavor of the rice. A little dry, but had good flavor. Salad - the dressing had a mediterranean tang to it which went well with the hummus. Hummus - a little bland and dry. I added a pinch of salt and that solved that. I also mixed some of the dressing from the salad and it gave it a more tangy taste. Much better. Meat - chicken skewers were pretty soft, beef shawarma had good flavor but somewhat dry, chicken shawarma was good balance. All in all, I'm so glad a Mediterranean place opened up here in La Mirada. I've had better, but this place will do just fine. Prices were also reasonable. I would go back again. read more
