Mazra in San Bruno recently completed a remodel and the space feels completely different from what longtime locals might remember. Back when this spot was Green Valley Market, Mazra was tucked away in the back of the store. Before the renovation, ordering had already been moved to the front through a window where you placed your order, then you add your name to a waitlist to dine-in. It somewhat worked, but it felt like a lot of steps just to get food. The remodel took over two years to complete and it seems the scope expanded quite a bit along the way. What likely began as a plan to renovate the kitchen and bring the grills indoors turned into a full remodeling. The space now has a completely brand new kitchen, dining room, patio, restrooms, furniture, and improvements to the parking areas. Takeout ordering and the host stand for dine-in are now properly positioned at the front, making the flow much smoother. The layout also mirrors their Redwood City location with a proper indoor kitchen and ventilation. From what I understand, the grill had been moved around the property multiple times in the past after neighbors complained about the smoke, so it's nice to see the owners investing in a long-term solution. The remodel looks clean, modern, and honestly the kind of setup I wish they had years ago. The menu remains the same. I ordered my usual Double Kabab Plate with lamb and chicken, along with Arabic salad and fries. The meats were still good, but the sides felt a bit off during this visit. The fries tasted slightly stale and the Arabic salad was very salty. The sides seemed like they may have been sitting out. Several sides were also unavailable when I ordered around 8pm. I also noticed the portions seem smaller than before, something I've also seen at their Redwood City location. The double plate now comes with about half a skewer, roughly four pieces of each meat. The grilled moist quality from the brine is still there, but the reduced portion size is noticeable. It's hard not to reminisce about the earlier days before Mazra went viral around the Bay Area. Back in 2020 there was no line, plenty of space to dine in, and parking was much easier. These days the small front and back lots still fill up quickly, so skipping the on-site parking and using street parking in the residential area is often the easiest option. It's great to see how far the place has come. The owners' son Jordan was there running the restaurant during my visit, and it's impressive seeing how they helped turn a struggling market into a restaurant that's now widely praised across the Bay Area and expand to a second location. Overall, the remodel is a big improvement and the restaurant looks fantastic. If they can tighten up the consistency of the sides, revisit the portion sizes, and perhaps start making pita bread in-house, it would easily bring the experience back up to where it used to be for me. read more

I've been here before, but this was my first time back since the remodel and they did an amazing job. The whole place feels fresh, modern, and much more welcoming while still keeping the great atmosphere that made us come back in the first place. I ordered the lamb shank and it was incredibly tender, flavorful, and cooked perfectly. My wife and kids shared the double kebab platter and everything came out fresh, juicy, and full of flavor. We also got the cauliflower and halloumi cheese rolls, and both were excellent. The halloumi rolls especially were a standout. The staff was friendly, attentive, and the service was smooth from start to finish. You can tell they really care about both the food and the customer experience. Ate lunch there today after dropping my Dad off to SFO. Tried Halloumi for the first time (as it was gf and I am a celiac), and it was delicious! I got in right when it opened, so parked in the back. So lovely to sit out in the patio and b/c it was a sunny day, I got pretty warm. Also had my usual kabob plate. Everything is by QR code and the staff were so lovely. Welcome back, Habibi! Consistency has always been where Mazra shines, and this latest visit was no different. I've tried most of the meats on the menu, but this time opted for the grilled lamb chops. I also decided to give their "street fries" a whirl. The lamb chops were tender and fresh, although I wish they were cooked ever so slightly less through (or give the option to specify temp when ordering through their QR system). They are pricey at $43. The street fries were a highlight; I'm already a fan of their chicken shawarma, but the added tzatziki really adds a cohesion that complements their hot sauce & toom wonderfully. $16. The only reason they are not 5 stars this time around is the price...unfortunately everything has gone up in recent years, but this feels *just a touch* over what I'd consider "good" value; though I understand they use fresh ingredients, cook everything fresh, etc. They're still worth visiting if you're craving excellent Mediterranean cuisine...perhaps just space out your visits a bit to go easy on the wallet! read more

So glad they have reopened! After a long day at work, I took a chance on dropping by Mazra for dinner. It was busy with a lot of people waiting for an inside table or take out. Luckily it was a bit cold and breezy and I was bundled up so outside seating was immediately available. It's been a while so I went straight for the lamb shank. It was so delicious and tender. I got the roasted vegetables and hummus as my sides which were so good. The table next to me also ordered the lamb shank and were able to polish it off. I, on the other hand, got full quickly from the huge portion and took most of mine home. I am looking forward to having it for lunch tomorrow! Service has its usual small kinks to work out which is to be expected, and everyone is so friendly. I did like the QR ordering, and I should have ordered a banana date shake to go when I was done. I just found out this great place recently. I can see why this place is such a popular spot in a random corner in San Bruno. The vibe of the place is inviting. We came here for lunch with coworkers. This is a inviting and relaxing spot, but at the same time, it feels fancy and a little bit different from the usual cafeteria/sandwich spot for lunch on a workday. Food wise, their portion is very generous, especially considering their price point too. I highly recommend their roasted whole cauliflower. I am not a big fan of cauliflower (got sick and tired of this veggie from my multiple failed attempt weight loss journeys). But I can see myself eating their roasted whole cauliflower every day. It's super duper flavorful. The texture was tender but not mushy. But the outer part has the smoky crispy edge... oh, and covered with this tahini sauce. I wish I can do some sort of subscribe and save for this dish and have this every day. Maybe this would help lower my blood pressure? :P Another item I would like to highlight is their pita bread. I don't know what they add to the pita bread... but the bread (except the edge) is still pillowy soft after sitting from the fridge for 2 days + microwave as my attempt to "warm it up". There are times I got pita bread from restaurant that they turned into a hard cardboard on the following day.. but not here :) Service, the entire team is amazing. They have staff members who focus on taking away dirty dishes and the host checks on us from time to time. Those who bring the dishes out always ensure we have everything. Updating my review of my last visit. Mazra isn't ready for prime time. Give them time to work out the kinks. What I said in my recent t 5-star still stands. It was for dining-in. What they got wrong during the same visit was the to-go order that I placed at the counter. I wasn't able to process a to-go order on tbeir site. They got my to-go order wrong 3 times while I was there. The 1st mistake was serving me one of my 5 items on a plate at the table. We had just finished dining-in. The redo of the to-go shorted me 3 things. Even tbe waiter thought the bag was missing part of the order. I got a polite bums rush from an owner when I got the food to-go the 3rd time. Assuming they got it right. I left without checking the bag. Got home and one item was missing. Plus, falafel were burnt. It was the straw that broke the camels back. Hence, this part 2 review. 3.5-4 stars. Long lines if you arrive after 6 PM. The parking lot only holds 4 cars and 2 additional spaces for food pick up and one disabled parking. We came on a week night and the place was hopping. Street parking isn't easy either. There is a hot pot of spiced tea or water on a table outside for waiting customers to help themselves. No one is seated until your entire party has arrived. Your food is ordered by scanning the QR code on the table and you help yourself to tea and water at the station where takeout boxes are also located. Basically, there's no wait service. The QR code will also prompt you to pay for the food after you place your order. The food was generally good and we had so much leftovers that the next day, the food tasted even better. The dip platter with 6 falafel was very good and came with 3 pitas, you will fill up on this before dinner. We tried the chicken and beef schwarma and they were tasty and very well seasoned. The small containers of sauces were too spicy as well as the cold, pickled vegetables. The roast chicken $30, was a large serving over fries but it would've been better if it was 1/2 fries and 1/2 rice. It's such a large dish that 2 can share. We were too full to try dessert. Mazra was apparently the #2 restaurant in America on Yelp in 2021, and it is still very good. The portions are generous, the ingredients are high quality, and the preparation is very strong. For example, we got the multi-skewer family pack, which included 2 shrimp skewers. We were excited to find that the shrimp was perfectly cooked and tender (impressive because usually shrimp is overdone on skewers). The other meats were tender and well seasoned. I've been coming to Mazra since the days when it was still a small deli style spot in the back of the grocery store, so I was genuinely excited when they reopened in their current space. I've ordered here multiple times since then, and I waited to write this because I wanted to give them grace while they worked through the growing pains. The food is very good. I've never had an issue with quality, which is what makes this frustrating. The bigger problem is that the overall takeout experience has been consistently unreliable. My orders are often late beyond the quoted pickup time, the pickup process feels disorganized, and I have repeatedly had issues with missing items, wrong items, or inconsistent portions. What has bothered me most, though, is the customer service. I've noticed here, and at their other location, that some customers seem to get preferential treatment. I've seen people waved to the front or helped on the side while others are left waiting. Whether they are family, friends, or regulars, it creates the impression that some customers matter more than others. I'm torn writing this because I do think the food is excellent, and that is why I kept coming back. But good food only goes so far when the service feels chaotic, orders are inconsistent, and the experience does not feel equally respectful to everyone. read more

So happy that Mazra San Bruno has finally reopened! I'm a San Bruno local and never eat in house, but man was it packed when I went to pick up my order. I came on a Saturday around 12:45pm and their parking lot was full (not surprised whatsoever) and a handful of people waiting in queue outside. I really appreciate that they have the 2 spots reserved for pickup parking, especially since their lot is pretty small. My street wrap was just as tasty as I remembered it pre-renovation. I kept hearing how great this place was and how excited everyone was that it had reopened, so I had to give it a try. I ordered takeout for lunch, preordered online, and selected a pickup time. The process was super easy--the outdoor pickup window was convenient, and my order was ready right on time. I ordered the chicken and filet mignon kebabs, and I cleaned my plate! Everything was absolutely delicious. The only thing missing was more of that amazing garlic sauce next time I'm definitely ordering extra. If you're a garlic lover, that's my tip: get more sauce! Have been wanting to come here for a long time, we have done take out twice in the past and the food has been great so I assumed it would be amazing in person. Every time we've driven by it's been so busy and we can only ever seem to scrounge up five people so we can't make a reservation. Finally decided to give it a go tonight, seemed not as busy as as I've ever seen it but pretty busy. Got in line around 6:15 (although I had wanted to be there earlier...) estimated wait time 30, most of the times those apps are inaccurate so I assumed 45. Not sure if the restaurant can adjust the toast tab estimated wait time but you might want to look into that. Took almost an hour and 5 minutes to get seated which again that was our choice... We had our order ready so we placed it immediately via the QR code. Waiter approached us and asked us to move to accommodate a larger party, we were moved to a larger table but hindsight being 2020 we should have grabbed our table marker. Maybe the server thought we had just sat down and hadnt placed an order yet otherwise he probably would have moved it with us. What ensued was an hour of back and forth with servers and managers trying to get our food to us. We had one lady bring us our apps first, we saw her approach the table next to us put the food down, the people at the table waved it away we flagged her down she walked away but then came right back and we told her what had happened she said she would fix it. The next round of food comes goes to the table next to us, they start dropping the food onto the table, we flag them down and let them know that's our food. 30 minutes in we've received one appetizer and one main dish and one salad but not the other main dish and none of the other side that come with the dishes. 15 minutes later another hot platter comes out, this one also goes to the other table. The people say no that's not our food and even though my partner and I are waving and talking lously at the waiter, he takes it back and walks back to the line. At this point I stand up and go to speak to the waiter/expo, and explain that it's been almost an hour and we haven't received our food due to mix up with the tables. He asked me to show my order which I go back to the table to get, and when I turn around Farzi (sp?) is waiting for me, and seems to be understanding what had happened. Over the next 5 to 10 minutes he manages to run back and forth to the kitchen and get all of our food out to us which while appreciated, has been 30 minutes since our first dish arrived which was now half eaten and cold. Had we left it there I would have left with a poor taste in my mouth, but Farzi return several times to drop off extra drinks desserts and appetizers and was very apologetic and continued to check in on us. I have worked in restaurants and food service for 25 years, I know that sometimes s*** just hits the fan and things are busy and nobody talks to each other like they should. Crap happens All things considered I think everybody did the best that they could and I did appreciate the floor manager doing what he could to make things right. I haven't mentioned the food up to this point only because there's literally not a single criticism all the food is amazing this is some of the best Mediterranean food in the Bay Area we knew this before we came here and it was even better in person. Either get six people to come with you or be prepared for a long wait, and remember if you are asked to move tables just take your table QR code with you. My only very very minor criticism is my god your customers are super f****** annoying. Everybody stands where they need to not be standing, everybody parks in your delivery only parking spots. Nobody reads your very clearly written signs about which line is which. There was a woman in her car with her family just sitting in the delivery only spot, probably waiting for a table because they never left the car for 45 minutes. Once we were seated there were two different groups of five or six people who came by and tried to take photos next to us while we were trying to eat. Like I get that it's a pretty interior but, do you really need to jam your butt up against the table of another party just to take a photo with some books and stuff in the background? Get over yourselves Appreciate you guys we will be back if we can find three to four other people to go with us. read more

The place is more cozy - you can order via scanning code or cashier- it was busy even after 130pm today- they are offering filet mignon beef now and this cauliflower we tried was really good. We ordered chicken shawarma wrap and added fries for +3, cheese rolls under mezza (soooo good) , double kebab plate- filet mignon and lamp with veggies and potatoes ( comes with rice already ) Asthetics was just good vibes, indoor and outdoor. Small parking lot in front and back. There is street parking, just be careful, the streets are narrow! Great time and they allow you to BYOB! Bring your own beer / wine. Mazra -- Mediterranean BBQ & Small Plates 504 San Bruno Ave. San Bruno Open 11 am - 9 pm Daily except closed Mondays " Take it Easy Habibi" This is one of favorite spots in my neighborhood--I've been a loyal regular since day one. It started as the bright green can't miss it corner grocery store with a food counter, then the grocery store turned into a beloved, always-busy restaurant. It was voted One of Yelp's Top 10 restaurants in the US in 2024! After being closed for over two years, it's back and completely transformed--open kitchen, modern and clean design, with a larger, lively indoor and outdoor dining space (and upgraded restrooms too). It's a busy restaurant so do not go at peak hours. There could be 4 lines - to go orders, pick up orders, get a table line and wait for a table line. We went mid afternoon on a weekday and walked right in and got seated right away. When you sit down, you are given a two sided menu and a number. You can order by QR code at the table or at the cashier and a server will bring the food to you. Menu highlights include wood-fired meats, wraps, kebab plates, lamb chops, and lamb shanks. Service is casual but attentive--someone will check in on you from time to time. We ordered the roasted cauliflower (the bomb) and drinks to start with - mint lemonade and raspberry lemonade with a nice touch of fresh mint sprigs. Both were refreshing, but the mint lemonade was my favorite. For mains, I had the shrimp and lamb kebab combo plate over saffron rice with fries and baba ghanoush. My friend ordered the filet mignon kebab with tabbouleh. The standout was definitely the filet--so tender and full of flavor. The lamb was solid, and the shrimp had a nice kick. The baba ghanoush,was smooth, flavorful, and a must-order and even the saffron rice was perfectly prepared and balanced the meats. There is a jar with utensils and napkins on the table and two self-serve stations with water, glasses, utensils, napkins, small plates, takeout boxes and bags, plus complimentary cinnamon tea (such a nice treat). There's also an outside walk-up counter and a small parking lot in front and back. Parking is tricky as this is a residential neighborhood with narrow streets. Bonus: no corkage fee if you bring your own wine. It gets busy during prime hours--expect lines to order, pick up, and wait for a table--but the energy is great. It's no surprise prices are higher and portions a little smaller but that's common everywhere today. Lots of laughter, people enjoying good food, nice vibe and I always find myself looking around to see what everyone else ordered. Definitely worth the wait--I'll be back. read more
