From the time I paid until my food was served to my table with a smile was 8 minutes. I had many clean tables to choose from. Music playing softly in the dining room--Motown classics. They offer teacher, military, nurse and first responder discounts. Best iced tea around! Salt and pepper grinders at each table is a nice touch. Cashier was LOUD and a bit robotic when taking my order. Meat and cheese on my club was scant. Found this deli in a Yelp search for a local eatery with Reuben Sandwiches. I ordered 2 Reubens, a French Dip Sandwich and potato salad. The Reubens were for my housemates, who said they were quite good, and everyone loved the potato salad. My French Dip was a bit fatty and tough, but the Au Jus was excellent. The menu is impressive and I saw several delicious-sounding salads I plan to try on my next visit. Restaurant is very clean and attractive, and the crew was great. New to the area, our first visit to McAlisters in late summer 2022 was exceptional. Our sandwiches were amazing. We both ordered the "New Yorker," a HOT (remember the word "hot") pastrami sandwich on a baguette. We opted to eat our sandwich in the dining area, so that it would be served fresh from the kitchen. It was delicious! It must be pointed out that we are, by no means, "picky eaters." We mostly eat at home and occasionally go out to enjoy "comfort food." And we pay up to enjoy "deli quality" food now and then. And so we did. A few months elapsed. We ordered the same. No change/just as good. We were happy and we were hooked. A few more months elapsed. This time, the New Yorker had noticeably diminished in size. We were not imagining this. That formerly thick stack of pastrami had perceptibly shrunk in height. Ooh, not good. Not cool. Speaking of cool -the center of the meat stack was cool, not hot. It is a supposed to be a HOT sandwich. We were not happy, but we thought it was a fluke. Every place has its ups and downs, so we put McAlisters on "pause," not "delete" in our minds. Many more months elapsed before we returned. This time, the New Yorker was presented as the size we had expected, but the pastrami meat was cold. Not even room temperature. Cold in the center! AARGH! We were so angry that we did not return until nearly a year later. Only because we thought that [perhaps] new management might have been installed wherein some quality was restored......... WRONG!! Forward to 9/26/2023: This time, the manager,30-ish, heavily tattooed white dude with black beard) took our order at the register. I asked him if the New Yorker was a hot sandwich and told him that that the last one we ate was cold. While he was polite, he assured me that the New Yorker is indeed, a hot sandwich. OK. We shall see. Guess what? After a considerable wait, the sandwich arrived at our table, delivered by the bearded man himself. We were not at all upset about the long wait time, but when we discovered after biting into our expensive sandwiches that the pastrami was COLD in its center layers, we were livid! How cold was it, you ask? As cold as a cast iron commode on the north side of an iceberg. We speculate that the cook took a pre-made stack of pastrami meat, jammed it in to or on to a heated device (griddle, hot plate, microwave, etc?) for a few seconds, pulled it out, then slapped the stack onto the bread and called it done. Wham, bam, thank you m'am! With nothing done to check the interior temperature of the meat. For shame! This quality is unacceptable. How dare you call yourself a deli! read more

Girl in the back looked at my husband twice and me once and we were not acknowledged even one time. Used to be a great place to eat before COVID and now I wouldn't go in to use the bathroom. So-so. Ordered the Reuben sandwich and a cup of tortilla soup online with drive-thru pick-up (to-go option). Arrived at listed pick-up time (15 minutes later), waited behind two cars in line for another 15 minutes, only to arrive at the window and wait another 10 minutes while they started making my order. The two folks working the line/register were very friendly and apologized for the wait. Sandwich was made with decent ingredients (good bread and pastrami), but cheese wasn't melted, bread wasn't really toasted, and there was minimal saurkraut. And for the price, portion size was small. Tortilla soup was a more creamy variation, albeit well flavored, and the highlight of the otherwise under-impressive meal. Didn't seem like that busy of a day (Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m., but maybe was just an off day for them? Either way, I might go back but I will probably get something different next time. The line to order remained about 10 people deep while we were there. None of the tables were clean. To clean one off, I had to get some paper towels from the dirty bathroom and grab some spray cleaner off the corner table, which also had several chocolate cookies that it looked like they had been packaging on it. They were right there in the dining area for anyone to grab, that's got to be a health code violation. There were four of us ordering hot food, and out of the four, none of us had a hot meal. One of my daughters and I had a premium sandwich, an extra $1.29, where the bread was toasted on one side and soggy on the other. The inside, which was supposed to be hot was not! The soup, chicken and gnocchi, which I realized after ordering was also an extra $1.29 was overcooked and brown and lukewarm as was my husband's potato and my other daughter's mac&cheese. I thought about complaining immediately, but the line was so backed up, I assumed it would take too much time to get anything taken care of, and we were all starving as we'd had no breakfast. When it finally slowed down, I approached the assistant manager, he didn't have a name tag that I could see and didn't introduce himself, bearded and tattooed, and told him about all our problems. I might as well have been talking to the wall. He said I should have said something earlier and he would have reheated the food. To which, I explained about the line. We were told there was no more pecan berry salads so we changed our orders. However, they had no idea how to fix the change. How do you no longer have salad ingredients for a salad featured on the menu? Then when you order a $10.29 salad and change to a $8.29 salad and they say "it's okay, we'll bring it out to you". We had an excellent experience for lunch today at McAllister's! Latoya the cashier/deli server who works there truly was so friendly, helpful and efficient. Her coworker that was arranging to go orders was also appearing so careful while putting orders together and was communicative with Latoya (name was on our receipt and we asked for it since we were so impressed). It is so nice seeing teamwork, efficient service, and friendly helpful customer service. The food is perfection--just the deli taste we were craving. We ordered two clubs, potato salad, the veggie, broccoli and cheese soup, four cheese sandwich, and the Godiva double chocolate cheesecake. Also--fellow military families--they are loud and proud here at this establishment about discounts for all military (including vets)--every day. We also noted they give discounts to teachers. There may be other professions discounted, it's worth an ask. Nice clean, friendly deli--making me wishing we had one where we live (just in town visiting family). read more

Stopped here for a quick lunch while heading out to the beach. They had lots of salad, sandwich, soup, and spud options making it hard to pick just one meal! I chose the pick 2 option and got the Savannah Salad and Grilled Chicken Sandwich - it was delicious! Other members of my family got the Garden Turkey Sandwich and Southwest Chicken Salad. It was ok. The service was great! The food was average. I got the Mcallister Club wrap and my daughter got the Mcallister Club sandwich 2 large drinks, 2 bags of chips. and a fudge brownie. All totaling 21$ and some change. Didn't know that offered a military discount or else I totally would've taken advantage of that. My daughters sandwich looked like it had a lot more meat and more fulfilling than mine, yet it cost about the same. The drinks were very large and they came to our table asking if we wanted refills or anything else for that matter. The brownie didn't taste homemade. It was large enough to split but a bit dry and not that good. The menu consisted of sandwiches (hot and cold), baked potatoes, soups, salad, sides and some bakes goods. The service was fine, the sandwich was fine, but their blackberry flavored lemonade was absolutely horrible. It tasted like I was drinking grape flavored cough medicine. I'm not exaggerating. It tasted like cough medicine. I don't know how that happens and I'm kind of worried about whether I was actually served cough medicine with my lemonade, so I would not recommend tasting their blackberry lemonade drink unless you want to see for yourself. read more

This place is not worth the price. The service was good and I believe the food was of good quality. The atmosphere is nice and clean and when dining in, the food is served on a real plate with metal utensils which makes it feel more like a restaurant. However, for being only a sandwich shop it has the price of a restaurant. If I wanted to spend over $20 for 2 I wouldn't choose a sandwich shop to do it at. We even ordered just water as drinks. The staff truly cares about their customers; from the Manager, to the cashier, to the cooks in the back: they all worked together to make me, the customer happy and satisfied and comfortable. I did not have to wait long AT ALL after I placed my order, for an employee to bring it to me at my table where I was wifing. The atmosphere and ambiance is quiet, really peaceful, soothing, and easy-going. McAllister's is an EXCELLENT place for families to eat in peace! My veggie sandwich, with chicken: best tasting sandwich I have EVER eaten at any restaurant. The cheese cake - with black cherry topping - truly DELICIOUS with a capital D. we came here after traveling hours too see a family member after being deployed. i am a huge lover of mcalister's and in my area there's only 1 an hour away so i was super excited to eat there. entering the store there was not a single soul in sight we get to the counter to order and as we are ordering we are met with a very very rude employee seemed as if she could also have been the manager. her whole demeanor was absolutely rude like she did not want to be there at all. my mother goes to see what cookies they have as they were pointing outwards towards the customers she picks one up to see what it is only to be met by the employee damn near taking it out of her hand and completely flipping the cookies her direction where my mother could not see then she explains that people had been taking the cookies and not paying which was fine but the way she just grabbed them out of my mothers hand was completely rude she could have simply asked for it back. then goes on to read our order out and my mom wanted to make sure one of the drinks was diet the lady said it's just the way it's rang up and re read the drink as a regular drink and my mom made sure again that it was diet and once again met with a rude "that's just the way it rings in in our system" as if she couldn't have said diet before it. then they put ranch on my potato after i asked for it on the side which was okay considering they said they could remake it after rolling her eyes at my mom. got to the house to find no pickles. and the list goes on i will not be coming back to this location as it needs major work especially on customer service which should be their main point. especially when you pay over 60$ on three meals outrageous!!!! read more

Went to the soft opening today and I must say I was really impressed overall with the experience. From the moment you walk in you are greeted and the hospitality doesn't stop there. It was definitely up to par with chic fila on that aspect however it just opened so I would expect that. The menu is expansive and has a lot to choose from for even the pickiest of eaters. I got the New Yorker sandwich and it was big enough to feed 2 people. My wife got the soul and salad and both were done just right. Finally another lunch choice in Goldsboro and much better than what we currently have. Get there soon! read more
