I've recently become a fan of McAlister's after passing by different locations over the years and never stopping by until a few weeks ago. Burnt out on the food places nearby my house, I tried McAlister's for the first time at this location. The first time was great. Great service. Great food. My next few visits let me know that this location is very "hit or miss", meaning you either get great service and not so great food, or not so great service and good food. Example, I online ordered, got to the store and waited as my order wasn't ready. A few minutes later, who looked to be a manager set some bags on the front counter and walked away. Several more minutes pass and a staff member tells me they are still working on my order. A few moments later, another staff member tells me the order that's been on the counter in front of me was mine the whole time. Food quality this time was pretty good. Like I said, hit or miss. My friend and I hadn't seen each other in such a long time and because of that, we were THAT customer. Taking forever to decide what to get, being so caught up in conversation we didn't even notice we needed refills until the lovely and patient Brenda came along offering them. Thats customer service! I entered McAllister's not expecting much. I figured it would just be another Jason's deli. Boy was I wrong. It was clean for one, with a huge menu and properly made wraps. The food was fantastic. Flavorful, nice human portions. The staff was beyond friendly. I will eat there again and again. I didn't notice if they had drinks, but they have a great patio for evening enjoyment. read more

Wife and I calculated up that we've spent about $11k here over the last 10 years. For the longest we were here every weekend and usually once during the week. I love my tea and usually get a refill or 2 or 3 while we eat, but its hard to get a refill these days. Over the past few years, its gotten harder and harder to get a refill, you have to go stand in line up front with everyone trying to order or stand by the little kitchen side exit and its just awkward and in the way. I don't think this is from the staff being lazy, more of an issue with them being busy and keeping the few folks who are always running around occupied with taking food out and busing tables. I've done a TON of those receipt reviews for the $3 off and I always put in there to please add a drink station, but never worked. If I could refill my cup myself, it would make this place 5 stars! food is always really good and the order takers up front are always nice and my family of 4 can eat for like $25-$30, which is impossible at most places. Those .99 cent kids meals are awesome! We've started going to Jasons Deli a lot more this past year and i'd love to switch back to McAlisters full time if they'd just put in a self service drink station. Wife and kids usually don't care if we go here or Jasons Deli, so lately I've been opting to pay a little extra at Jasons to be able to actually get a refill whenever I want one. I've been to this location before and had no complaints but this time the cashier was not friendly at all! I just went in for take out and whenever she got my order she almost dropped some of the soup because she carelessly only grabbed one side of the bag. She didn't even fix the soup that had fallen over in the bag so it was going to spill everywhere. After I fixed it myself in front of her she asked if I had any drinks but didn't say thank you or anything. Not even a smile. I know it may not seem like much but she should have at least been friendly. read more

I have eaten at several different locations and loved the bacon spuds; however, the last two times my order was wrong. The bacon was in big pieces (not chopped), the cheese was in dried clumps, and the added ingredients I had requested were missing. I would have taken my order back to be replaced except that I was already home when I realized it was wrong. Guess I need to look inside next time or go somewhere else. I have eaten McAlister's for years. 10 years ago they had a location on North Garland Rd. and George Bush that I would go to 3-4 times a month. I think I've eaten almost everything on their menu. I've had it in Mesquite, Plano, and Tyler as well. I buy a glass of half and half tea at the Byron Nelson every year from the tent. I have introduced many of friends and family members to the great idea that is McAlister's. However, the Rowlett location consistently provides poor service and below par food. I gave it many chances (at least 5 over the last year) and every single time it is terrible. The kitchen needs serious help and fast. I'm not a restaurant entrepreneur so I can't diagnose whether it's management issue or if there is another problem. But the fact still stands that this is a horrible representation of the McAlister's brand and I will never go there again. Wait....who am I kidding I'll stop in for some of the world's best tea. But I will then take said tea to another restaurant that cares about the operation of their business. read more

It may seem strange that I'm offering five stars for this type of restaurant, but in fact I think it fits in the grand scheme of things. McAlister's Deli in Rowlett, TX, is one of our family's favorite places to visit. The food quality is consistent, and there is a variety of options for those looking for standard soup-sandwich-salad American fare. The staff is always friendly and attentive and makes us feel at home. While it certainly is a "grown up" restaurant, in so far as adults should find plenty to enjoy, it is most definitely a family-friendly place, which is important to us since we have a 10-month-old and a 6-year-old. Is it high cuisine? Of course not, but McAlister's offers tasty food, generous portions, great tea, and a pleasant dining experience all around. I highly recommend them! read more

Ordered "To Go" at approximately 1100. Was told the food would be available for pickup between 5-10 minutes. Arrived at 1110. Saw my order on the counter and waited patiently at the "To Go" register for 10-15 minutes. There was a line to the door, and the two ladies at the register would look at me and not assist, instead would continue to assist customers waiting in line while my food was getting cold. For an establishment that puts effort into having designated "To Go" parking, and a separate "To-Go" register, there is never any priority given to someone who calls in an order before other customers that are being assisted. I finally had to call the location, ask for assistance, and was then helped with no apology after I stated that I had been waiting for 15 minutes. The food was good as usual. This is the second complaint my wife and I are leaving about the "To Go" process at this location. We like Mcalisters and Jason's Deli equally. But between this location and Jason's Deli, which is 1 minute down the road, my family's money will now be only going towards Jason's Deli, who will prioritize To-Go orders given. read more
