I'm a bit partial to the Payette Dip (French Dip) it's literally the best on this side of the Mississippi. Their steaks and burgers are great and they've got a nice selection of wraps, sides and other sandwiches that you might expect from such an establishment. This is what you would call an Ale-Haus. If you're looking for a foo-foo diner with linens and some creepy dude in in the bathroom to you hand you a towel, you're in the wrong place. It's a brewery made out of logs! If you're looking for a an ale-house that crafts their own as well as decent food and service, look no further. If you're in McCall for the winter, it's a great pit stop after you get down from the mountain. There seem to be some reviews mentioning poor service however that was not our experience. Came here for lunch with a friend/co-worker and we were greeted by a friendly woman who seated us and then our server came over and was very pleasant and helpful (when we had special requests and substitutions). I ordered the portobello burger and my friend had a steak salad. Both tasty and came out just as we had ordered. The food wasn't greasy or to "heavy" which was nice for lunch. The menu had a pretty good section of veggie options (other than salads) which is always appreciated! We didn't drink any of the beer but they seemed to have a nice selection and verity. I really really want to like this place, and I have been here a lot over the years! THEY HAVE REALLY GOOD BEER....the problem is the service and the food....it is lacking in a serious way! Every time I am there, the service is slow and borderline rude...and they always seem rushed(even when it is not busy). The food is just pub food at best...and definitely over priced! Took a long time to get our food and when we did, the fries were cold and the mashed potatoes were lukewarm and flavorless. Food was good but not great. Waiter was clueless and had to be reminded who had what meal. Actually brought another tables food and had to be convinced that it wasn't ours. We stopped in for a beer and had an amazing night. The bartender "Disney" was GREAT. We had asked for a suggestion he poured their best beer Hippie Hop all 3 of us ordered it. He then poured my daughter their seltzer with lemonade to try and it was FABULOUS! We ended up spending a couple hours drinking beer and talking with the bartender and others at the bar. Not going to lie the appetizer we got was great but when we were done and ready to order more we saw one of the cooks in the kitchen. He had no mask, a big beard and he kept wiping his nose (gloveless). While we sat there he ran his hands through his hair, consistently touched his face, had his phone out and played with the food. Yes he played with the food, he held the bread to his face and pretended it was a mustache. It grossed us out enough that we reported it to the bartender and left. He was yelling and swearing "fuck this shit, I don't care if they fucking fire me. I'm sick of this shit". He was saying this over and over whenever someone else would talk to him. We have been coming here for years. We went to McCall for the day and had lunch there yesterday. The manager turned out to be our server. First I was brought 1 empty bottle of steak sauce. Asked for another, the next bottle was also empty. Food was good, but then my hubby found a hair in his fries. Too long to be his, too short to be mine. We told the manager/server. She basically said "I don't know how that happened, no girls working in the back". didn't seem to really care. We got our $50.00 tab and she didn't comp anything. We were pretty shocked. I don't know that we'll go back. She could have at at least really apologized, comped my iced tea or given us a coupon. Poor customer service, and from a manager no less. read more

I come here occasionally, more for the upstairs patio than the good food. The beer is OK and the service is OK sometimes. But now I am done with this place. On a Sunday afternoon when the restaurant had about 1/2 of their tables filled, it took 50 minutes for our table of two to get our food. They were out of avocado, which was a main ingredient in my meal. Apparently no one told the waitress, so I did not get a choice, I was just served my meal without the avocado and the waitress said she would discount our bill (10%....also ridiculous, all things considered.) I went downstairs and stood in front of the t-shirt locker for a couple of minutes (a relative wanted a specific shirt.) There were 1-2 people at the bar. When I inquired about shirts, the bartender confirmed the locker was locked and then walked away and went about serving drinks. Obviously I was trying to buy a tshirt and she just ignored me. The service here is TERRIBLE and the nice patio and average food and beer do not make up for it. read more

After reading the reviews - I wasn't too excited to try the food so we decided to stay with drinks only. I had both the Coconut Porter and the Smoked Brown Ale and I enjoyed both very much. The waitress was pretty hands-off but we didn't mind. We were there a few hours so we didn't need much! The atmosphere all-together was nice, I love a good local brewery. Quite literally the worst dining experience I have ever, ever had. My friend and I stopped in for a snack and beer while we were out walking around town. We had a baby with us so asked for a high chair. Upon being seated seconds later that request was obviously forgotten. We had to ask again. We placed our order for one flight of beer, one pint of beer and a pretzel - pretty easy stuff. The flight and pretzel were brought out promptly, but not my beer. I had to ask for that again, too. The pretzel tasted like it was from the frozen section at the grocery store (and not the good brand), and the "German style beer cheese sauce" was more like a gravy and absolutely tasteless. We ended up grabbing a bottle of mustard from another table and eating it with that. The best part of our whole experience was watching our waitress sit at a bar stool, take her shoe off and rub her foot. She then proceeded to put her shoe back on and take an order from a nearby table WITHOUT WASHING HER HANDS. Based on other similar reviews, might I suggest making some changes? read more

Mediocre beer and a bad menu. We ordered the clams which were solid, but honestly after seeing the other food on the menu and other food around us there really wasn't anything else worth ordering. We tried a couple different beers and weren't impressed with any. This place gets an extra star for having such a nice rooftop patio but I would not go again if I had to sit inside. This place needs a little bit of maintenance to get it patron friendly. We arrived to have a midday snack and some beers. We arrived about 3pm and the restaurant was about half full. We waited for a while before we were even greeted. Once we were sat, we were left for about another ten minutes before they were able to figure out who was suppose to be serving us. We were brought waters and ordered our beers along with some wings. The food came out relatively fast, compared to the rest of the experience. The wings were pretty great and the beer had good flavor. It was nice to sit and relax until the roof broke and water came pouring down on our table. The server even joked about it, saying it's been an issue for over a year. That is not ok, especially when it pours into your food and drinks. read more

Enjoyed a late lunch here today... service was top notch we ordered the ribeye dip served with au jus and horse radish by request, soup salad combo (cheddar ale soup), hot wing salad and I got the Asian wrap stuffed with spicy fried chicken and an asian slaw. Perfect balance of warm, cool sweet and savory all in one. Tanglefoot was enjoyed as we watched the last hour of the ATT Pro Am on TV which is our hometown. Pretty sweet lunch. read more

I went here for my first time during the 4th of July week. I have to say I was anything but impressed. We had a table of four and walked in around 1 in the afternoon. We were maybe one of five tables inside. After ordering a couple beers we placed an order for three appetizers, we weren't eating lunch just some snacking. We ordered some clams, nachos and buffalo wings. Pretty basic appetizers or so we thought. After 20 minutes our waitress came over and apologized saying the kitchen was backed up. We looked around and out of the five tables most already had food, how could it possible be backed up? We understood it was a busy time of the year but the restaurant wasn't full. Nearly an hour after initially putting our order in we received our food. Everything as ok. Clam dish was small for the price, the nachos got soggy because the salsa was so watery. The wings were good though, can't complain. Overall, won't be going back here anytime soon. Always thought their beers were drinkable (some of them anyway) and their food was okay but after the their "official concert after party" stunt, we won't be returning. Claiming you are the place to go after a concert across the street, only to charge a $10 cover to get in (with no guarantee of a seat after paying) is a joke. In fact, after walking away, I found a couple of fun places to hang out late night in McCall that wasn't ripping me off at the door. It wasn't on tap and they wouldn't sell me it even though they had it in bottles. The manager said it was the owners policy. Well, whatevs ... only the government can keep customers by not giving them what they want. Now I know why they have a 3-star rating on yelp. Also, the manager wasn't too concerned that our food took forever to arrive to the table. But when it finally arrive, it was splendid. We liked three out of the four beers we had. The service was friendly and ok. The food was a huge let down. We were told upon arrival the kitchen was behind and food was taking over an hour to come out but apps would come out fast. We were fine with trying a few apps. And ordered the beer cheese pretzel and chicken nachos. Both did arrive very quickly but were underwhelming. Pretzel was partially burnt and cheese sauce lacked flavor/seasoning. The nachos also arrived quickly they were a large order but cheese was melted on to chips and all other toppings quickly thrown on top not cooked with the chips. Chicken was cold so obviously pre cooked and added at the last min. Stop by for a brew but skip the food. read more

After letting poor customer service and inconsistent food quality slide I am forced to review the McCall Brewing Company after my most recent visit... I called in a pickup order after a long day on the mountain and was told it would be ready in 30 minutes. When I arrived the hostess told us to wait in the bar while she checked on our order... After 20 minutes we revisited our hostess to find out if our order was on its way. She responded with an attitude and told us she would find out how much longer. She came out of the kitchen looking confused and avoided us. After about 10 more minutes the bartender who had probably heard us complaining went back to the kitchen and quickly returned to tell us they had lost our order and were just now making it. Not sure why the hostess didn't figure out the order was lost the three times she went to the kitchen to "check on our order" When we finally got home the food was sloppy and thrown together and they had forgotten a few things we ordered including the gravy for the mashed potatoes. Like I said this is not the first negative experience I have had at this restaurant and I will not be returning. Bad service, so-so food and high prices. There are plenty of great places to eat in McCall, we don't need McCall Brewing Company. read more

I'm sucker for good brew pubs (They Have Beer). I'm not bashful in telling you that I have gone out of my way while traveling to sample new and different beers and the pubs they call home. There are some great ones out there. Marin Brewing, Deschutes (had a Mirror Pond at the Mirror Pond), Watsatch, Rogue, Red Hook, Bridgeport, Full Sail, just for starters and even great hole in the wall places like Lucky Lab Brewing in Portland. What can I say, I'm a fan. To be fair I will break this into four sections. I'll start with the bad news first. Price: $2.68 for a 6oz soda tacked on to a kids meal (foggy recent memory most kids meals come with the soda). The beer price was $4.75 a pint. The food price wasn't terrible but I've had better for less. Pricing seemed a little high, even for McCall Idaho. The kids soda just kind of pissed me off. Service: The Staff was kind and the food and drinks were timely. Food: Meals here are mostly average with standard pub fair like wraps, sandwiches, etc. Although McCall Brewing has great Salmon dishes and their Beer Cheese soup has consistently been a must have. Beer: Three words, Great Job Guys. Generally speaking their beers are flavorful and well balanced. The Lemon Ginger Hefeweizen was remarkable (I'm stopping on my way out town to take a growler home). All in all I will most likely get over my issues with some of their pricing and be back again. read more
