I went here after a trip to NYC, so as you can imagine, my basis for comparison was a bit off. As much as I'm a fan of independent restaurants and I wish Indianapolis had more of them, these upscale chains DO add something to cities. The food here is solid, that is to say well executed, if not particularly uncommon. I had a event here last year and I have to say that the staff was A+, five stars. If the efficiency and skill with which McCormick and Schmicks is run were the only basis of evaluation, it would be five stars for sure. So nice work to the men and women who work here. It's a chain, but it does everything very well. Service, food and ambiance are exceptional. And you pay well for it.

I really enjoy this place. Anytime I layover in Indy, I stop by for an early dinner or at least an appetizer. The Bar Tenders are just fantastic. I will say this, I usually go before happy hour, so the place is pretty slow and the Bar Tenders have time to talk and service is always very good. Happy hour starts at 4:00 and the bar does start to get really packed. The happy hour menu is pretty good and the prices are very reasonable. The food is generally pretty consistent. The Oysters are always fresh and the fish is consistently fresh well prepared. I've reviewed this restaurant before and have posted some pics. This visit, I had a mixed greens salad with grilled salmon. The dressing was light and tasty; the salmon was cooked perfectly and the nice glass of wine the bar tender suggested went very well with the dish. Overall, I was a happy camper. read more

Located smack dab in the middle of downtown (ample parking nearby), McCormick & Schmick's was an excellent experience! With the snow falling upon Illinois Ave just outside the window, we dug into some excellent seafood. Our party of 9 was helped quickly. Service was quick and our drinks were always kept full. The server also had a solid grasp of the menu and options for particular tastes and what could and couldn't be removed from particular dishes. The appetizers were very good. In particular, the bacon-wrapped shrimp was amazing! I don't know if that had to do with strictly the preparation or the inherent magical qualities of bacon, but I could have eaten those all night. I had the chef's special of stuffed salmon with mashed potatoes and string beans. The seasoning was well done, the salmon was perfectly cooked. Delicious! The only downside was that one of our party kept getting neglected. His dish came out 5 minutes after everyone else's, he didn't get the beer he ordered before the entree's until after the check came. I don't know what he did. McCormick and Schmick's is a terrific dining experience. While they specialize in seafood, they have a large menu and options for everyone. Of course, the seafood is fresh and prepared very well. The selection ranges from simple dishes to exotic. It is certainly worth the price (which is not outrageous). They also have a full-bar and a wide selection of wines. The interior of the restaurant is very clean and well decorated. The staff is terrific and I have never experienced poor service. I highly recommend this restaurant. read more

Beautiful place, went on a night it was 0 degrees outside so be prepared it might be very cold inside due to all the windows, very very romantic candle lit tables. Each meal is around 25 to 35. Best deal is the trios there is two of them just a 5 dollar difference. The Caesar salad is the best I've ever tasted. The mash potatoes is heaven and the dinners and delish.. I'd skip the calamari it wasn't worth the price or taste.. but all in all we loved it we will be back in the future read more

We have been coming to M&S for the last several years as a holiday tradition to celebrate three birthdays before attending the Yuletide Celebration (7pm show). We had 5PM reservations, arrived at 4:45, and were seated immediately. The hostess was very friendly and recognized the birthdays I had requested on the menu. Cortland was our server. He took quite a while getting around to us, but we ordered wine, appetizers, and he put those in. We received our bisques and chowder at near room temperature with a skin on top and croutons completely soggy, as they had obviously been waiting to be picked up for some time. We just ate it a we were trying to keep the meal flowing. The crab cake came out about 10 minutes later. When Cortland finally returned, he apologized for being slow (although they seemed to be well staffed and not completely busy-about 2/3 full I'd guess). I told him we had tickets at 7pm and needed to get things moving. He took our orders, then disappeared for a long while. I looked at the time, and it was 6:05. I flagged him down and asked him to please check on our food as we had a show to get to. He said he would. A few minutes later, he came out and said it just popped up. Based on the overall query of my table, the food was OK although not hot as it seems that it too had been sitting as well. I ordered crusted Ahi tuna. It was warm, served on a bed of cold mashed potatoes with no pepper sauce or even a hint of wasabi as stated in the menu and soggy crisps on top. Having no time to have it fixed at this point, I just ate the tuna and left the cold potatoes and veggies. I had to flag him down again to ask for the check, and at this point we had to forego dessert and coffee to get to the theater, which we just barely did. Basically, we had poor service from someone who was not backed up by management at any time. At these price points, someone should always be sending food out quickly, even if the server is off his game. The cold soup and potatoes were just unacceptable. I guess I should have asked for a manager early on, but I don't like to throw servers under the bus, and I did not see anyone checking in as usual, so maybe they had no one. Bad news for M&S as this will be our last trip here for our annual tradition. I have heard people say bad things about this location, but we have always had great food and service here until 12/12/2021 and continued to patronize this spot. I would not recommend this location anymore. They are obviously not well managed and it shows. 2 full hours for cold food and no dessert to honor our birthday celebrants. Then we had to wait over an hour and a half after ordering for our food. We ended up being late for our concert. The food, once we received it, was good. Food was badly prepared and service was average at best. Couple of orders of calamari - soggy and soaking in oil. Sent them back and they came out perfect - how could the chef/cook prepare them so differently? How wouldn't the alters see the oil and send it back? Couple of had the house special bouillabaisse - pretty decent - packed seafood combo in a well seasoned stock - very nice. Accompanied with a couple of piece of grilled fresh bread that was, well just bread. Again - inconsistency, no quality control and poor service Drinks were wrong, brought late and white wine was room temperature - waitress commented on me putting ice from my water in it - but then didn't do anything when I told her it was warm. I ordered clam chowder and received lobster bisque which had a layer of oil floating on the top. The clam chowder was starchy. The sour dough bread was warm and delicious but comes with a strange butter sauce/spread on the side. My waitress did not know how to pour champagne...the champagne was dumped into the glass quickly like it was a Coke which merely filled the glass with carbonation. The waiters and waitresses where getting both drink and food orders mixed up at other tables also. The duct plate was missing under my table and it was freezing cold at the table. The floor in the bar was dirty with spilled food. The service was sooo slow. The scallops and truffle fries I ordered where cold. I clearly told the waitress, as I perused through the menu, no onions. I made my entree selection based on the fact it had no onions. When I received the cold meal, both the scallops and the green beans where seated on onions. The truffle fries where not only cold but soggy and saturated in oil as if the cooking oil was not hot enough when they where fried. I ordered another basket of bread while I waited for my new entrees and never received it. After an hour and still had not received my entree. I told my waitress I was ready to leave. (I was hungry and wanted to find another restaurant to eat at!!) Suddenly, I received more truffle fries but it must have had trace amounts of truffle (truffle oil sprinkled on top perhaps) because you couldn't taste any truffle. The green beans where floating in oil (perhaps canola or grape seed oil...not butter because it was tasteless...disgusting!) Four scallops for $32.50.!!!! Then, I was charged for the Lobster Bisque that I never ordered. My waitress tried and was nice but something was amiss either front of the house, back of the house, or both!!! Truly a huge disappointment since I grew up with McCormick and Schmick's and Jake's which was THE place to eat!! Bill McCormick and Doug Schmick would be heart broken to see their premier seafood restaurant bastardized. This was a landmark restaurant where the seafood was fresh, bountiful, and served by a professional staff in white waiters' jackets. I remember those days and I just wanted some really good seafood. Instead, I paid a lot of money for a really crappy meal and dining experience. I was invited to join friends for a concert that night that started at 7:30 PM. I had looked at buying tickets on-line as I sat at my table doing nothing. Thank goodness I did not buy the concert tickets. I walked into this restaurant at 6PM and finally walked out at 8:05. This horrible dining experience lasted two hours! You would have thought 1:30 minutes would be plenty of time to eat in the bar and to catch the show. My heart was breaking for couples and friends who where dining here for Valentine's. A Valentine's crowd should not be an excuse. A huge restaurant chain should be on its game and this should be your night to shine!!! Things have changed from the original McCormick & Schmick's and Jake's Famous Crawfish...Toto we aren't in Paris anymore! A commercial chain buyout ruined this restaurant. Lessons learned. Never, never again!!! Jordane F from the restaurant customer service requested my number to contact me regarding the experience...of course...she hasn't called!!! I contacted landrysinc.com, the parent company, no response. I finally received a call from Lindsey Thomas, GM 14 days after the dining fiasco who was defensive, flippant, and came across unempathetic. I was offered another meal if I was ever in Indianapolis again. (NO and NO!!) They have a crap product and no one cares because this is satisfactory in their eyes. If they cared, a manager would have discussed the matter when the meal was first sent back and this matter would have been settled before I walked out the door. A médiocre experience is acceptable here. Don't waste your time or money....you will thank me later. I wish there was a zero star rating. I hate to give anyone a review based on Christmas day, but since my thoughts seem pretty inline with reviewers who went on an average day of the week, I'm pretty sure my experience was the norm rather than the exception. My stepmom checked in an hour before our reservation and let the hostess staff know that we would be waiting in the bar area and they said they'd let us know when a table was ready. She updated them about 30 mins before the reservation to let them know the whole party had arrived and they said they were still waiting on tables to clear. 15 minutes past our reservation they still hadn't gotten us so we checked in and they took us back immediately - all the while we watched them eating and chit chatting at the hostess stand. Again, it's Christmas so I'd cut them some slack but there's a certain amount of maybe just don't open if you can't deliver top notch service at a place that easily costs $30-50 per person to eat? The rest of the meal was okay. The food was good but not great, our waiter seemed incredibly nervous and was trying way too hard to be fancy (or something) and it just wasn't working. He let us know 20 minutes after we ordered that the mashed potatoes would take an additional 40 minutes and asked us to substitute our sides. I would come back to see if our experience was a fluke but for the price, it won't be any time soon. read more

Well... what is the best way to approach this one? If you didn't know; this location is connected to a hotel. A nice touch in most cases but in this case, it may be counter productive. Why? I'm glad you asked. See... being co-located with a hotel runs the risk of a lack of accountability. Rarely are you worried about (targeted) repeat business with an otherwise transient customer base. I suspect, in many ways, this is the case here. It's unfortunate really. The food is agreeable. The ambiance is terrific. The staff is generally pleasant. But... When you add the aforementioned to the price... it leaves much to be desired. Cost benefit analysis is unfavorable- to the customer. You simply can't charge 4 star prices and not provide 4/5 star food and service. I went for lunch and paid $123 pre tip. Add in $25 for the gratuity and you've set me back a buck 50 ($150). Viewed by those constraints the service was disappointing and the food was merely acceptable! I'll leave you with this example. While dining, we (party of 2) ordered two cocktails. The server made a mistake and brought a wrong drink. No big deal. He apologized and told us to keep it and enjoy. He quickly brought the correct drink, so now we have three drinks. Still with me? At this point, we are sipping/sharing each drink while otherwise enjoying ourselves. About 6 minutes later, the server returns and tells us he can't give us the free drink and takes it away! What the??? Really??? Now I fully understand and support policies and rules. But this was just done in poor taste and style. Did a manger come by? No. Should I have spoken up? Heck no! When you set me back $150 credits, I expect an establishment to be proactive. Cost Benefit Analysis... This tale can only end one way with M&C and I. Not "To be continued" or "Until next time". We went for dinner after seeing a show. The evening started off poorly when one of us asked for extra vegetables instead of rice. The waitress started quizzing us about why we couldn't get the rice and started offering up other sides loaded with carbs. She even asked if we had some sort of allergy. Honestly it was none of her business and started the meal on the wrong foot. Later she even made a comment about needing an epi-pen. Just because one of us is eating low carb lately and wanted more veg instead of rice! The food overall was just okay. One of our fish dishes was a bit over cooked. I love the atmosphere, very classy with a definate retro feel, a nod back to the 30's and 40's. The staff is friendly and knowledgable. We ate as much as we could, appetizers, desserts entrees and a large offering of raw oysters. The only beef I had was the waiter asked each of us if we would prefer a soup or salad with the meal. He presented the idea as if it was included in the meal, and it certainly is not, this is a feature in a server I loathe and despise and if it were not for the food being so good, I would never go back . Calamari was a frito misto with carrots and jalapenos - very good. 1/2 pound burger looked more impressive than it tasted. The burger itself was under seasoned but the toppings did a pretty good job of making up for it. $6 Yuengling drafts. Wednesday is $1 oyster/shrimp night so I went back and again sat at the bar. I just can't with this place!! A good friend suggested I try the famous (shameless) happy hour. So one afternoon I stopped by. The hostess seemed confused upon walking in. However, she was very sweet. I sat for five (5) minutes, and a woman (who didn't tell me her name) comes to take my order with both arms full of dirty dishes (She asked for my drink first.) I ordered French fries with cheese. She told me they have their "Mac sauce". Assuming I meant nacho cheese. I tell her it's ok, as long as there is NO BLUE cheese. I believe she was more interested in other table of politicians rather than measly french fries. She arrived with the fries covered in blue cheese, and she insisted several times they were not. I asked her to check with the cook, and 10 minutes later she returned to tell me "the cook put a little blue cheese." I have been a cook myself for 12 years and in travel tourism now for 5. I am also allergic to blue cheese. After telling my friend she's crazy, she insisted I call the restaurant. A few days later I spoke with the manager who offered a free dessert... (Yeeaaa no) I should have eaten the fries went into shock and had a much better story to tell my future children. After finding some gift cards in the back of my desk drawer from a few years ago, we decided to give McCormick & Schmick's a try. I checked out the online menu and did a search for coupons. The menu looked great and I noticed a happy hour menu with great prices plus I found a coupon online for a free $5.99 appetizer. We chose a table by the window in the bar. Great atmosphere. The Firecracker Shrimp - It's hard to get much "fire" because they were so sweet. The breading did not stick to the tiny shrimp. I would not order this again. Hummus - EXCELLENT! The menu is not very descriptive. This is actually a red pepper hummus served with warm pita bread and cucumber. Fish tacos with jicama slaw - The fish sticks were reminded me of the frozen Mrs. Paul's fish sticks popular when I was a kid. They were fried and fried a little too long. The jicama slaw carried the dish. It tasted fresh. There was more napa cabbage in the slaw than jicama. The jicama provided a nice crunch. It was a nice evening and the food was ok. For first time guests, we were not impressed by the food or the service. For the price you pay, there are SO many better options downtown. I went with my husband and another couple, and we ordered shrimp kisses to start, and I ordered lobster bisque, and a filet and crab entree as my meal. I wish I could tell you how the shrimp kisses were - they never arrived! I had soup first, and then my entree arrived, and I asked the waitress about the shrimp kisses, and she just asked "do you still want them?" Uhm, what do you think? I have a large plate of filet and crab in front of me, do you really think I want an appetizer at this point? That was just a mistake, but you just expect things to be handled more professionally at a higher end restaurant. Maybe apologize and offer a free dessert? That would have made up for it, but none of that happened. She just acted like it never happened. The food wasn't anything to brag about. The bisque had a grainy texture and was missing the wow-factor that a good bisque has. The filet was cut up into medallions and it was cooked correctly (MR). The crab was fine. Overall everything was "fine" aside from the service screw up, and the sub-par bisque. But when I go out, I'm not looking for just "fine" especially if I'm spending the kind of money that McComick & Schmick's charges. Won't be back, and won't recommend. read more

This place is so fancy. Our server Daniel was by far the best server I have ever had anywhere. He was extremely polite, very professional, and gave us his undivided attention when he was helping us. I noticed he did this with his other tables which is amazing. I will request him every time I go there now! The food was phenomenal. I ordered the lump crab tower (considered an appetizer) and 3 oysters from the oyster bar for my meal, and all I can say is it was so fresh tasting and perfect. I was not over stuffed afterwards or anything. Creme bruleé was on point too for dessert. He filled up our wine whenever it was low and he was walking by, even though our bottle was on the table. Worst Valentine's Dinner Date Ever!!!! We had an 8:15 PM reservation and we weren't seated not until 9:00. Yet they were still accepting reservations on OpenTable even though there were at least 30 people waiting to be seated. We ordered the calamari fritto misto to start. It wasn't battered right. For our main entree, we ordered the ultimate mixed grill and broiled mahi-mahi. The food came after 45 minutes. My husband ordered the mahi yet they serve him broiled salmon. So we waited for another 25 minutes until they brought the mahi. At that time, I'm more than half way done with my dinner since I was starving. The manager brought the mahi to us and apologized for the wait. He removed the menu item from the tab. Overall, it was the worst valentine's dinner date experience ever. Let's be clear: This review would have been a 2 star had it not been for the wonderful female manager who took care of us after our less than average experience. Date night. Two words I long to hear from my handsome boyfriends mouth. With Devour Downtown in full swing I was pleased to hear him say that we would be indulging in a night of carefree dinner and good company. It's a good thing I had good company, because the dinner was definitely lacking. For starters, we made reservations for 8, didn't get seated until 8:10, ok, I can deal, I understand it is busy. We sat for 10 minutes before even being approached by our server who then proceeded to take an additional 15 minutes to get our beers out to our table. We ordered our appetizers and after over 20 minutes received them absent our bread and butter (which in my experience would be the first thing on the table.) So after we get our carby goodness, (mind you, after the table next to us...who arrived 20+ minutes AFTER us) we got our entree's, which were OK. JUST ok. We opted into the lobster tail and steak medallions which were lukewarm at best. The dessert was the best part. I got the molten chocolate cake and the bf went for the mango creme brûlée. It was expertly delicious and just what we needed to finish out this less than enjoyable meal. I'll be giving McCormick's another go, because I really think that we just hit it on a bad night, but if my next experience is anything like my first, it will most definitely be my last. read more

So I've never been a fan. In my experience, I've always walked out thinking I overpaid for what could have been a frozen meal from Giants. But the one in Indy is positively useless. - Scallops are meant to be seared not roasted into a soot covered piece of mush. It's probably one of the easiest things to cook, minute on each side, and serve. I'd have been happy to do it. But then, even the scallops provided were useless. - When I said grilled fish. I meant a) grilled - not fire roasted. And b) fish - what they served me was chicken cut in the shape of a wahoo filet. Now maybe I'm the bloody idiot for trying to order sea food in Indianapolis.
