I have been here several times and never really been disappointed by their seafood. I am slightly surprised by the three-star average rating at this place though I could understand why it's not anything over four as well. I believe if you stick to the seafood you will be pleasantly surprised here. Tonight I opted for the simply grilled Chilean sea bass with a side of lemon butter. Great option here, you cannot go wrong. My coworker opted for the crab legs which were on the small side and very few large chunks though they were split so the meat was easy to remove. The service and hospitality deserve an A-plus! I was a guest at a large group party, and the staff did a wonderful job making sure we had a comfortable and enjoyable evening. From the moment we walked in, everyone was warm and welcoming, and as they directed us to our private area, I was surprised to find that McCormick and Schmick's had a space just off the main dining room that could be closed off for our group. We even had a private bar, with a couple featured cocktails plus beer and wine. Again, our bartenders were so friendly and accommodating, finding different ways to mix the cocktails for our guests who wanted to something else. The food overall was fine, but there were a few misses. Certainly, eating from a catered buffet is different than ordering off the menu, but I had higher expectations given the name and reputation. First, the staff raved about the restaurant's raw oysters and unique accompaniments, which as a seafood lover I was excited to try. Unfortunately, the oysters had no flavor-- not briney and not buttery, just cold -- and the pearls weren't much either. Not a great way to start. The buffet also included crab cakes and ahi tuna -- which were definitely the highlights for me -- plus beef sliders and bacon-wrapped shrimp. The sliders were juicy and flavorful, but the size of the patty was tiny compared to the bun. I don't like filling up on bread, so I pieced together a sandwich with two patties on a single bun. That was delicious. The shrimp also had great flavor, though they were a bit tough. For dessert, our options were a chocolate mousse cup with fresh berries and a bananas foster brownie. My wife , who doesn't like steak but loves seafood, suggested M&S for dinner Friday night. With great anticipation we braved the Indy downtown traffic $15 parking and made an open table reservation. Seating was fast and friendly and service was prompt. Food however, was not a "fine dining experience ". Lobster bisque was superb and my wife's lemon drip martini was good. But the "freshly shucked" oysters were were obviously shucked well ahead of time, dehydrated and very tiny. The steak ( which I expected to be small) was tough grisly and tasteless; not up to the quality I have come to expect from this Franchise. The best part of the meal was an exceptional mixed greens salad with sweetened walnuts. Every single topping complimented the other so beautifully! The order also came with a little paper bag of fries. It was on the happy hour menu. I also ordered a cocktail called Talk of the Town. It had Captain Morgan Spiced Rum, La Marca Prosecco, and Dole Pineapple juice. It was high in pineapple juice and low in the rum. A good choice if you are looking for a light cocktail. I'm not one to normally give bad reviews. I usually try to find the good in a place even if others have rated low. But McCormick & Schmicks was not all it was cracked up to be. My husband and I decided to give them a try since they were on the devour indy list, it is one of the places we have never been before so we figured why not. We were shown to our table and each given a menu, we weren't given the devour menu though so we had to ask for it. The waitress seemed irritated that we asked for that menu versus ordering off the regular menu. She came back and gave us those and then took our drink orders. She left and returned with our drinks and a basket of bread. We thought she would be right back to take our order but it seemed like a fairly long time before she returned. We had eaten all of our bread by the time she returned. She took our order we both ordered off the devour list and my husband also got some oysters. After some time she returned with our apps. By the time our main course came we both order the 10oz new York strip. Strip steak is usually not my go to but there were no other steak options on the devour list. Both of us said our steaks and mashed tators were about lukewarm. She came back to bring our desert which was raspberry cheesecake which was delicious. She brought us our tab and thanked us and apologized for the long wait with everything. Neither of us were impressed. For such a renowned steak place we expected better. The service was lackluster, the food was subpar. Glad we went for devour instead of wasting 50 bucks on a steak normally. I had a meeting at the Hilton Hotel attached to the restaurant and decided to stop in for Happy Hour. They have one of the best happy hour menus of all downtown Indy. I ordered the Baja Fish Tacos and truffle fries and a Sprite. My meal was DELICIOUS! The fish in the tacos was fried crispy yet fluffy. What can be said about TRUFFLE FRIES?!!!! BUT---I was REEEALLY DISAPPOINTED that my WAITER WAS MIA After he brought my meal I DID NOT see him again until 40 minutes later! I watched him check with patrons all around me but ignored me! I REALLY hate not leaving a tip but I couldn't in this situation, however, I did leave a written "tip" instead which stated please be more attentive. See the photo attached. If I could give it a lower rating I would. I get that we are from Louisiana and our accents may seem ridiculous to them, but that is no reason to treat people like they're idiots. I came here tonight because I had a gift card - I ordered the calamari which was pretty good & cooked well (not rubbery or chewy, and the roasted tomato sauce was delicious). I got the shrimp & crab stuffed salmon (which was a chef special) as my entree and it was just alright. The flavor wasn't anything extraordinary and the shrimp/crab topping seemed over cooked. Overall the place was just okay. Will say it's a big overpriced on some for the experience in our opinion. My fiancé and I went Friday night for our post-valentine date! First impression was it wasn't as fancy or quiet as we were looking for but we had a decent time. The atmosphere was upbeat with louder music and the dinning room was packed full. Our service was prompt and our server was very friendly. She kept the food and drinks coming. Our food was as expected for a price tag and style of place. Nothing really wowed us but all was warm and cooked well. Overall the place was just okay. If you are looking for a mid-range date night restaurant with a good menu and a large price tag then give this one a try! Really disappointed to say that the past few times I've been here, I've been underwhelmed and disappointed. Service is subpar (I felt like our waiter was trying too hard to be "upscale" but it came across as slightly unnerving and not friendly). On my most recent visit, the Caesar salad dressing was too tangy, the shrimp was ho-hum and the whitefish tasted fishy/gross and had NO flavor. Also, way too much butter sauce on the dish/veggies. For the price, it's not worth it. I will be looking to other restaurants in the future to celebrate special occasions. The one plus I will give them: they recently remodeled and it looks great! I am so disappointed in this restaurant. I was excited about trying a new seafood restaurant and noticed that Costco also had great deals on gift certificates. So, I bought some and made a reservation to try it out. We ordered the calamari, and it was disgusting. The tentacles were sticking together, which formed a very large ball. The batter on the calamari was falling off and did not even stick on the squid at all. It made the whole dish look very unappetizing; therefore, we did not even bother finishing it. The main entree I ordered was the Red Snapper. It was disgusting that I could not even finish it. The taste of the fish was seasoned terribly. It was pretty unbearable. The best thing there was their panna cotta dessert, which was amazing! That is the only thing I can recommend at this place. The service was also nothing to rave for. This is a solid restaurant. I like their regular menu, but the Happy Hour menu is legendary. Today, I started off with the chowder fries. As the name implies, they put clam chowder over some fresh cut fries. They had me at clam chowder, one of my favorite foods. They sprinkle some bacon and cheese on it. It was so good I almost cried. After that, I tried the spicy seared ahi tuna. It really wasn't spicy, but it was delicious. After that, I had the mussels in white wine sauce. Stupendous! The last item for my meal was the shrimp cocktail. It was okay, but that shrimp had seen better days. The rest of the food was so good, I'll let that slide. All dishes on the happy hour menu are a pretty good portion, but I eat a lot. You can't go wrong with the happy hour menu here. Well, at the very least, I guess I can now say I've eaten at McCormick & Schmick's. We were given a gift card that we could use either here or at Morton's Steakhouse down the street, but we picked M&S because they're open for lunch. (Morton's is not open for lunch.) Lunch consisted of shrimp cocktail, mushroom flatbread, fish tacos and the fish and chips plate. The shrimp cocktail gets two thumbs up! It's no shrimp cocktail from St. Elmo's, nor is it shrimp cocktail like my dad makes it, but it was good and fresh, and they accidentally gave us the large size for the small-size price, so that made it taste even better. The flatbread tasted like a slightly fancier Gino's personal pizza: those ones they sell at the grocery store that go on sale every once in a while at 10 for $10. Now, don't get me wrong -- I ate the whole thing and I enjoyed it. But I wouldn't get it again. I was told that the fish and chips were tasty; I didn't have a bite, but they looked alright. Ok, now for the fish tacos. Some would say that it's my fault to begin with by ordering fish tacos at a steak restaurant, and at a steak restaurant in the Midwest, to boot. Fine, whatever. But no matter: these are some whack, sorry fish tacos. The fact that they were served with flour tortillas is the first strike against them. The second strike comes because they contained several things but tasted like nothing. Seriously, there was a lot going on with these fish tacos: battered fish, sauce, cabbage, vegetables. And yet, all they tasted like was flour tortillas, which taste like nothing. (I'll interject and say that GOOD flour tortillas taste heavenly, but these were straight up doughy Mission tortillas.) Sigh. The tacos came with a little pot of black beans, and those were nice. But the fish tacos were no bueno. We ordered black coffee, and it was good. The server was quick to freshen our cups, and even sent us home with a to-go cup of coffee. That was a nice touch. Speaking of our server -- he was great. The service in general was good. They must be in the habit of asking if you have a reservation -- when we visited, the attendant asked us, and we were like, "Uh ... no. Do we need one?" My entree was served with butternut squash orzo (that was bland) and a vegetable medley (gross). I also added the garden salad as a precursor to the meal. Again, it was nothing special...just field greens tossed in a balsamic vinaigrette, then sprinkled with bleu cheese and candied walnuts. The buffalo shrimp came with slaw, carrots, and celery. They were greasy and just ok. The slaw had no flavor other than mayo. The salmon was over cooked but ok not everyone can make it just right‍ My sides were so full of salt I can still taste it two drinks later. For dessert I settled on the specialty which was also suggested by the waitress the chocolate bag with white chocolate moouse and fresh fruit. This upset me most!!!!! I decided to go with the key lime pie to go hopefully it will not disappoint. Very disappointing New Years Eve. When we arrived for our reservation we were told that they were running 20 minutes behind. This didn't bother me as it was a very busy night. After sitting at the bar and talking to others and waiting for our table we quickly found out that they were around 45 minutes behind. Not a huge deal if I had been told that up front but I did not care for the dishonesty. Our experience at the bar was terrible. I had to wave someone down to order a drink. He took my order, made my drink and served it without uttering a single syllable or offering a smile of any kind. I observed the bartender being rude to others as well. We ordered dinner and my wife's filet was terribly under cooked. We were not brought any steak knives either. While my wife's steak was being fixed I asked 3 separate people for steak knives and despite promises they never arrived. My wife's steak was presented to her for the 2nd time and 2 minutes later, after our 4th request knives arrived and I could start on my now cold steak. That being said, regardless of which establishment you happen to dine at, you should have the same quality of food and service. For whatever reason, this just didn't seem to be the case. First off, the layout and décor matches all of the different M&S's that I have visited across the country. There is a full bar in the front of the restaurant with table booth seating. The menu prices match as well, but for what you pay for, you can definitely get better quality elsewhere. For whatever reason, the food was just flavorless. The saving grace of the meal was the service. The server was very prompt, friendly, and attentive to my dietary needs. While they don't have gluten free menu per say, there are several options that are available to choose from. In short, there are much better, non-chain restaurants that you patron. read more

In the past, I have had great experiences with this restaurant. My family often comes here during the holiday season prior to the shows at Hilbert. Unfortunately, recently I attended a work function at this restaurant wherein a three course meal was served and it did not go as planned. I ordered the filet (which was delicious) and had a side of the blue crab topping (that usually is on the chicken). There were two curly wire grill brush bristles in my meal. Both found in separate bites out of shear luck. It could have been significantly worse had I swallowed them and they punctured my throat. I notified the server and he had a very nonchalant response. Please be cautious consuming foods here, as it might result in hospitalization. A necessary side note: this could happen anywhere. read more

McCormick & Schmick's is a beautiful place! I visited for a birthday dinner on a Sunday evening and was pleased with the experience. We used the "Open Table" app to schedule our reservation, and it worked great! I do recommend that you make a reservation, just in case, but it seemed they could seat people based on walk-ins, as well! The restaurant is situated next to the Hilton Hotel. There is parking available at meters on the street, as well as in the parking garage across the street. Although I am not a fan of seafood, the people I was with seemed to love the Oysters Rockefeller and Shrimp Kisses appetizers. For my meal, I ordered the Blackened Chicken Fettuccini and was very impressed! It was so yummy and came out in a very decent portion size. Since we were dining for a birthday, our waiter brought out a chocolate lava cake with ice cream that had a candle lit on it; it was beautiful and yummy!! Another dessert we ordered was the Seasonal Cheesecake, which was blueberry. And wow! it was GREAT!! There was plenty there for two people to share. I highly recommend getting the chocolate bag and sharing with at least 2-3 other people. It's chocolate molded into a gift bag-type shape, filled with whipped cream, and then topped with strawberries. The whipped cream inside was amazing (this is coming from a girl who normally dislikes whipped cream). I shared it with my brother but we couldn't finish it. I had to recruit my parents to help and we still have to leave some on the plate. It's so yummy but just way too much. All the other food was mediocre. I expected much better for a $$$ restaurant. The lobster bisque was so insanely salty that it was almost inedible. It came with salted clam crackers so they didn't help. The clam chowder is also slightly too salty but does not come close to the lobster bisque. The clam chowder was nothing amazing. I really hope that we just came on an off day... The most disappointing part was when we got the check. My dad noticed that they charged us almost $4 extra for one of the items. It could've been an honest mistake. But when we got the server's attention, he seemed to know immediately that the price was wrong. To my parents, that was just kind of suspicious. Underwhelming, the quality of this establishment has gone downhill over the past few years. It is basically an overpriced TGI Fridays or Chili's chain restaurant, did not feel like a high end (or even medium end ) dining experience. Value is very poor when comparing food quality to price. Our experience included no heat in the dining room and no hot water in the restrooms making us wonder what the kitchen looked like. Food quality was average (service was adequate but not excellent as they delivered the salad with the entree) but not excellent. Ordered Salmon Oscar which arrived without crab meat or asparagus ($ 50 entree should be better prepared and presented). We dined at 7 o'clock on a Saturday evening and they were already out of their signature dessert (chocolate in a bag). All in all there are much better choices for a high end meal in downtown Indy, I would recommend going somewhere else for a memorable experience. read more
