Although this iteration of Landry's is a seafood focused eatery, the steaks are also excellent. Tami enjoyed a succulent perfectly prepared medium rare 6oz Filet. The server, Michael, asked her to cut into it to check 'doneness' before leaving our table side. I ordered the swordfish which reinforced my previous experience with this fish no matter where I had it - it's dense, fairly dry and lacking flavor. Not this restaurant's problem and I really wanted to like it. I just don't care for it so won't be ordering again. Sides were exceptional (fingerlings, Brussels sprouts and spinach). My husband and I dined at M & S's on Sunday, October 6th to celebrate our three month wedding anniversary. The service we had was impeccable, and each course provided a different seafood flare. As an appetizer, we shared a plate of the shrimp kisses (recommended by server) and they were delicious! Our main entree's were sea bass and rib-eye - both were good, but nothing life changing. My favorite course was dessert! We had an Upside Down Walnut-Crusted Apple Pie with Cinnamon Ice Cream that was absolutely divine!!! The pie was nice and warm, which made the ice cream melty and delicious. We finished the whole thing even though it was a good-sized piece. Overall, we had a very pleasant experience. A few things to note, I would not recommend this restaurant for people who do not enjoy seafood. The menu provided a few other options, but you could tell that seafood was their specialty. Also, the lighting in the restaurant was so dim that at times it was very difficult to read our menu. In fact, we ended up using the flashlight on our phones! I understand the ambiance they're trying to create, but when it affects eyesight I think we have a problem. The location of the restaurant was excellent - right on Illinois Street in the Hilton Hotel. We valet parked (which was super efficient) and received a free appetizer that we promptly used! I thought that was such a nice touch since we would've ordered an appetizer anyway. The last thing I would recommend is making a reservation or arriving closer to when they open at 4pm. You can receive a variety of items from pub-style burgers to calamari, salads, fries, and everything in-between for under $10. Pro tip: visit with friends and share a variety of menu items. The dinner menu is what you'd expect from a fine dining restaurant attached to a nice hotel - surf, turf, and bird are the order for the day. The wine menu is fairly extensive, allowing for some nice pairings. The space itself is filled with dark woods, leather, and plush upholstery, all of which give a feel of substance and "weightiness" to the bar and main dining areas. My husband and I went in on a Tuesday around 1pm for lunch. The bread came out hot and fresh with a nice whipped butter. We had the shrimp cocktail for an appetizer, which was decent, but nothing special. My husband likes big shrimp, I'm more of a baby/salad shrimp cocktail person. He was satisfied and I wasn't dissatisfied. I still question why places have to do things in odd numbers. There were 5 shrimp, why not just make it 6? I ordered the fish, shrimp and chips lunch special for $15. It comes with the choice of clam chowder or salad. Usually I go with a salad, but this time I went with the chowder. I was happy with it, it had nice pieces of clam in it and the flavor was good. The fish (2 good sized pieces) could have been crispier in the middle, but it wasn't horrible. The two pieces of shrimp had a nice breading on them. It also comes with a large pile of natural cut fries, I would have preferred some steak fries, but these weren't bad. Personally what makes or breaks a fish and chips meal is the tartar and cocktail sauce, and both were decent here! My husband ordered the light sea bass, and a lobster tail (he has a thing for lobster tail). The sea bass was cooked nicely. The lobster tail wasn't the worst nor the best we've had. All in all, I think if I went there by myself and ordered the $15 fish and chips and had my way with the bread, I'd be very satisfied with my meal. Those were also pretty good and the portion size seemed a little better. The bartender wasn't particularly friendly or attentive for that matter, despite the fact it was pretty dead in there (only 3 tables/seats at the bar that he was responsible for. My water glass was not kept full and I had to flag him down to get malt vinegar for my fish. However, the main problem was when I paid with a $20 bill. $5 + $5 + tax should have been less than $11. Lots of issues with this restaurant. First off, it was COLD -- I'd guess about 68 degrees. I asked for their crispy potatoes instead of mashed potatoes, but still got mashed. When I asked the server, he told me he'd correct it right away. I had eaten the rest of my meal by the time the potatoes came, and then they were hot on the outside but cold on the inside. I also got what I would consider a pretty small portion of salmon. One positive note, my wife has Celiac disease (no wheat) and they were able to accommodate that with no problem. However, we said no thanks to the offer of bread, but the server forgot and brought some out anyway. Overall, not worth $150 for two meals, and we won't be back. read more

I'd say four stars because food wasn't perfect but our server was great and we liked the interior. Let's be honest. You can probably get a date on Indy's Eastside for less money than you'll pay for an appetizer at McCormick & Schmick's, a higher-end seafood & steak dining establishment located inside the Hilton Hotel in downtown Indianapolis. I should offer a bit of a disclaimer. My visit to McCormick & Schmick's was as a companion with an invited media guest who'd been offered the chance to attend a reception of sorts recognizing the restaurant's redesigned space and menu. As guests, and there were quite a few gathered, we were offered the chance to sample several menu items and, quite honestly, we were treated quite well. It was, after all, a special event. We met the location's new general manager and chef, the latter having come in from Baton Rouge. McCormick & Schmick's is a modestly sized national "chain," though there's a definite effort amongst the chain's locations to localize aspects of the menu. The key emphasis, not surprisingly, is on seafood and steaks. They offer a lunch menu, dinner menu, a happy hour (with tremendous deals), and a dessert menu. They also have space for banquets and special events. They also offer an oyster bar, several appetizers, a full drink menu, and a handful of pasta options. My first observation was a rather disappointing one - the outdoor entrance is, in fact, not wheelchair friendly with a couple of steps into the entrance. I'd originally thought they had another one on the other side but, in fact, I had to go inside the hotel to a side entrance that goes through the bar area. This worked out well, but could be a hassle should the bar be packed. Fortunately, I will give kudos to the hostess who'd clearly been told by my companion for the evening that I would be arriving and she spotted me at the side entrance waiting and tracked me down. Once inside, accessibility improves dramatically. There's a definite luxury feeling to the decor - being my usual spastic self, I can say I was being mighty careful the whole time I was there. I'd be hard-pressed to tell you everything that I sampled, but it included cedar-planked salmon (Absolutely friggin' incredible), oysters (my first time ever - probably my last), portabella mushroom bruschetta w goat cheese (better than I expected), flourless chocolate truffle cake (good), shrimp kisses (no wonder I'm not affectionate), just plain ole' shrimp (much better without the kissing), a couple of their steak options (quite good), and a few other things that I never quite snagged the name for. Yes, I'm ending a sentence in a preposition. Deal with it. It's noteworthy that their lunch menu is considerably less expensive than their dinner menu, while their happy hour menu is a great introductory way of experiencing the restaurant. The lunch menu is also quite a bit less adventurous is my observation. As expected, the servers were pretty much on the money. My companion and I joked about one female server, affectionately naming her "Ninja Server," because she had a knack for spotting you done with a plate or anything and would be there within seconds. There were times she'd remove a plate even before I spotted her doing so. It was pretty incredible. All the servers were incredibly friendly, though definitely there were a couple stand-outs (including ninja). I did note that most of the tables they'd put back in the reception area were higher-top tables and I found myself using one most of the evening. It's a good thing I'm secure with being in a wheelchair, because the table was high enough I could have hidden under it and pretended we were having a seance. I had a Sangria mixed wine drink that was an ample serving - it lacked a certain something that I'd have expected, but considering I'd stopped for a beer on the way I was probably better off it didn't have more kick. There's nothing more pitiful to watch than an intoxicated paraplegic. You could have probably seen me weaving in and out around the Cultural Trail. As a matter of point, entrees for lunch start at $12 and go up with quite a few between $15-30. At dinner, you tend to get even more in the $20-30 range or higher. It's certainly not absurd, but it's not a place I would dine every day. While I didn't necessarily resonate with everything I sampled, I'm not a seafood connoisseur and had no trouble finding things I'd order again. With a nice interior design, good service, good food, and a spirit of helpfulness, I'm moving the rating up a bit and going with a 4-star rating while acknowledging that I'd prefer to experience a more traditional dining situation as I think it would give me a better sense of the usual service patterns. For now, I have to go with what I experienced and while I wasn't blown away these folks did give me a night that I enjoyed and still remember fondly. read more

This might sound like a silly review, but I feel I should share my experience here as a vegetarian. I came here for a staff meeting/lunch. As the name suggests: the menu is heavy on meat and seafood. I believe there was one (maybe 2) vegetarian/vegan options for me to choose from. All of which were salads. I opted for the fall shaved vegetable salad. With the $7.50 price tag, I assumed it would be a nicely sized, filling salad. I was wrong. I'm one that usually makes a meal when I dine out into at least two meals from a leftover meal. I ate my salad and then had to eat the bread that comes at the beginning of the meal to feel even somewhat full. Don't get me wrong, the salad had some flavor. But quite the opposite of when salads usually have too much dressing, this one had whole pieces of vegetables that had zero dressing on them and many others tasted more like water than the apple cider vinegar dressing. The one thing the salad had going for it was that it was very fresh. Sadly, I can't say I'll see myself coming back here unless they branch out a bit more on some vegetarian options. I know, it sounds silly to say that for a seafood/steakhouse, but plant-based eating is becoming more and more popular and it's nice to have a non-meat option, for both omnivores and herbivores alike. read more
