(If all we wanted was to have the tires rotated and balanced, we could have had that done for free at Big O!) This place is a perfect example of why automotive repair shops have a bad reputation. I had called a few days before my appointment to get a quote, and when I came in, they jacked up the price for no reason. They also called me during my tire change to insist that I get new tire pressure gauges (saying that it was very important and I didn't have a lot of time to make the decision), which came out to over $250. I wouldn't have gotten them if they hadn't told me it would be over $100 extra to get them replaced later. I felt like they took advantage of my not knowing a lot about cars; they weren't very clear about the reasons for pricing, and everything was very expensive. This was the least pressure I've ever felt from a mechanic. I usually do a lot of my own work, but I brought my car in for a diagnostic because I couldn't figure out the issue. They went above and beyond, checking more than I expected and clearly explaining what actually needed to be fixed versus what was just optional. Well, if you'd like to pay an arm a leg for service go here! For a replacement air filter they were going to charge me $350. That is a $19 part at AutoZone. I understand that labor is expensive but for replacing a filter that can be accessible via glove compartment. That seems a bit much! The only plus side is that the receptionist seemed nice and knowledgeable. I really just felt like that. They wanted my money and we're going to make sure that they got it. read more

Just to get an estimate (due diligence), they required that I bring my car in for a "Free" safety inspection even though I already recently had a safety inspection from somewhere else just a week prior. Then I was told that it's likely that it wouldn't be done by closing if I dropped it off at 1:00, so they offered a FREE loaner. With that came a lecture on the phone and in person about bringing it back with a full tank - "wouldn't be fair for the next person," even if you only go 2 miles. I'm totally ok with that, just not 2 lectures. At 3:00ish they texted me that it was ready (after I asked them just call)... ok with that too. No estimate yet, just a list. So after driving back and filling the car with 1.08 gal at the nearest gas station, the estimate was given to me verbally; over $130 of the highest estimate I received. All other places were able to give me a verbal estimate. Feel free to take your car there and be ready for this nonsense. read more

Hands down I would recommend going here. I was passing through Fort Collins when my car wouldn't start. I found McCormick via the glowing Google reviews and I'm happy I did. I was able to get in next day and the service was thorough both in explanation and labor. I particularly appreciated the text message updates I got during the service. It made it much easier for me to communicate while I was at the Starbucks working across the street. (McCormick has WiFi too but I needed some coffee.) They also provide a shuttle service if you do need a ride home or to work while your car is being worked on. Special thanks to Patti at the front desk for talking me through everything. She was great on the phone and in person. Excellent customer service! (The other front desk woman was very nice too I just can't remember her name.) The only thing I can recommend about McCormick is to stay away from them. When my car broke down, I had it towed to McCormick because it was nearby and had great reviews. I had an AC compressor issue, and needed a new compressor + the installation. This would generally cost a little bit over $500, give or take a couple hundred bucks. McCormick quoted me at over $2000 between the new part and labor. They even tried to say "this normally would cost more, but we're cutting you a deal." The mechanics act very friendly so they can sweet talk you into voluntarily paying them 4-5x the price that any other mechanic will charge you. Stay away from places like this, there are plenty of other mechanics in the Fort Collins area that will do the same work for a quarter of the price. read more

Brought my vehicle in for repair to front wheel and strut damaged in curb strike. Did repair and everything appeared normal. Brought vehicle to my dealership soon after for oil change and rotate tires, they discovered the tire was not the same model as the other 3 and was not shaved down to same tread depth. Worked with them to resolve, but felt like it was a careless mistake, not incompetence. Now, several years later, same Subaru dealership, I bring car in for belt change and a "clunking noise" sometimes when turning. They inspect and find that the aftermarket Cambolt has wallowed out the strut and steering knuckle and need to be replaced. After contacting McCormick Auto, they claim no responsibility saying the dealership tech person doesn't understand the mechanics of the system!!!! After providing pics of the improper bolt/installation and inviting a conversation between dealership and McCormick Auto, McCormick Auto calls me back to say the dealership is wrong and that the wallowing is "built in tolerance", he continues to deny any responsibility and spins what the dealership said into more denial and disinformation. As for the 5 year warranty, they are denying any claim, are unwilling to listen to or examine Subaru dealer report and pics, never once mentioned any service to help get vehicle into their shop for inspection. Suggested I drive it up to them, when I explain it is not safe to drive (according to everyone), he asks me "Well, how did you get it to dealership then? like some 5th grader trying to taunt someone. I told him I brought it in for routine maintenance, unknowing of the damage that had occurred since their installation, unaware of the danger of total failure if that bolt breaks. Corey, the owner, continued to spin and deny, never once offering to make it work and when I raised my voice to ask him to "Just TAKE CARE OF IT!" he hung up on me. SEE YOU IN COURT!!! read more

Listen. These guys are amazing. I took my car in on Monday afternoon and I had it back in Wednesday around 4pm. I had extensive issues with my suspension, brakes, and control arms. They were extremely friendly (thank you, Patti!) and so fast in getting my car back to me. The only thing that I would advise is if you're applying for the credit card to help finance your repairs, be aware that it is a hard hit on your credit score. These guys are the best! I came in with a coupon for a free brake check, and they gave me the most detailed inspection report, even including pictures. It turned out my brakes were squeaking because there was a build up of brake dust in there, but were otherwise fine. I made the mistake of not asking for a quote for having four tires mounted. When I got the bill, it was for twice as much as I've ever paid before. The shop claimed their price was typical. But when I got home and called around I found that, sure enough, the McCormick price really was twice as high as other shops. They always seem honest and fair (and are very respectful -- which as a young woman I find that many auto-mechanics are not always). They always take the time to explain everything to me and answer all the questions I have. In addition, they have given me consistently lower quotes on jobs than other area auto places. They once spent a day trying to find what was causing a noise that's been bothering me for years -- and that the dealer and other mechanics had never been able to explain -- and actually figured out what was wrong. I took a used car that I was considering buying in for an inspection, and the service I received was thorough, knowledgeable, and helpful. They provide the service for free, and the mechanic I spoke to was very compassionate, advising me as if I were his own daughter and taking the time to explain the issues with the car to a mechanically-disinclined person like myself. The storefront is very pleasant, with a comfortable, sunny waiting area including armchairs, newspapers/magazines, wifi, and I'm pretty sure there was complimentary coffee. It is a family business as well, as evidenced by who I can only guess is the owner, Mac McCormick, coming in to check on business while we were waiting. I was impressed with the level of service I received. The front desk staff was knowledgeable and friendly. She took the time to explain the entire report from my oil change and she made sure I understood the technical terms. I was pleased with the professionalism of everyone I encountered. Although they found a few things that needed repair, they did not push me to get them repaired right then. It was refreshing to go in for an oil change and not come out paying for a myriad of repairs. We had to wait a while for the oil change to be completed and it was nice to sit in the spacious, clean waiting area. My kids and I played a board game while we waited and the front desk staff took the time to come ask about our game and get to know us a little bit. What a disappointment my return trip here was. I brought in an older car for what I thought would be probably just some routine maintenance, but because it hadn't been looked at in a while, I told them not to do anything before calling me. They completely disregarded my instructions. They changed the oil (and put in an additive), put in expensive fuel system cleaner --- and THEN called me to tell me that the car had a serious safety problem that couldn't be fixed. Huh?? Not only did they do maintenance before doing a diagnosis of any safety issues, but they also ignored the clear instructions I gave when I dropped off my car. In November of 2014 I finally found the car I had been waiting for (2010 Mazda3 in case you are wondering)! It was to be the first auto purchase of my lifetime and I was nervous about spending such a large chunk of change, about whether or not the owners had taken good care of the vehicle (private party sale), etc. The owners agreed to a pre-purchase inspection and since I live in Denver I had to try and find a reputable shop in Fort Collins to take the vehicle to. After a quick search and reading some reviews I quickly settled on McCormick. I was going to look at the vehicle on a Monday and called the shop first thing in the morning. Luckily they were able to fit me in! The shop is rather large and has a great area with couches, magazines, etc. to hang out while waiting. This was a pleasant surprise because it ended up being my husband and I, the couple we were buying from and their baby. We were taken care of as soon as we walked up to the counter and they explained what they were going to do and how long it would take. About 45 minutes later I was called up to talk with the mechanic and he walked through each line item and explained what they found. Thankfully everything checked out! They recommended a transmission fluid flush and noted that the vehicle was due for an oil change. This helped me knock $100 off the negotiated price with the owners. They also noted a very minor transmission fluid leak that they said was not a concern at the time. I was impressed at the detailed explanation and when I took the car in for an oil change a few weeks later the Mazda dealership noted the same thing (they will be able to fix it under warranty at my next service). Oh, and the best part? The pre-purchase inspection was free! This usually costs about $100 at the average shop. Overall, I was so happy with McCormick and would highly recommend their services. If you want to be overcharged and have the money to burn, Mccormick's Auto on College and Horsetooth might be for you!
