I rarely review fast food chains, but after a trip to Japan I have a new appreciation for our fast food restaurants. Service and food of Japan McD is 5 star quality. Over here, it's hit/miss but this location is one of the better ones. The restaurant is clean and not too busy. The patrons seem to be mix of old and college students probably from nearby Evergreen college. Highlights: + Save $ by using mobile app to get deals like free medium fries if you spend $2 which I did with a purchase of apple pie + $5 meal deal is customizable so my daughter can eat her double cheeseburger with no onions, pickles or condiments + Service is surprisingly quick where my food was ready in seconds after paying (for real) + There's actually someone cleaning the tables! This could've been a perfect 5 star meal if only my apple pie was like how it used to be in the 90s. It used to have this crispy crust but now it's baked. Everytime I give this McDonald's location another chance, they always end up disappointing me. Today was no different. We had a mobile order to pick up inside the restaurant. When we went inside to get the order, we were told we could not pick it up in the restaurant. They said "you have to go through the drive-thru". We went through the drive through and then they told us that we could not get the order because it was an order for the inside pick up. I told them I would not flip around and go inside again because they told me that I had to go through the drive-thru. The employee continued to argue with me and say it was my fault for the confusion. I stated that everytime I went to that location that I had an issue. She stated that I should do the order correctly otherwise I would not get my order. I stated that it was their employees and their system that was faulty and she continued arguing with me about it. This location needs to shut down permanently because every worker at this location is incompetent and has absolutely no self control when interacting with a paying customer. Their answer to everything is to argue with the customer, instead of admitting that they are in the wrong and making the customer happy. If I could give this location a 0 rating, I would give a 0 because they have no right to be in business anymore. First time to this McDonald's. I was in the area at lunch hour and wanted a quick bite to eat. Ordered from the kiosk and sat down. The place was very clean and didn't smell funky like a few other McDonald's I've been to. Tables were not sticky. There have been numerous complaints of the manager at this location. I didn't have any issue with the employees. They are great. I tried calling the location to resolve "the beetle" issue, but no one picked up (a management issue). Other people have complained of old product being sold, old bread etc. (management issue) The beetle in my fries looked like it was cooked into the fries. Its legs got burnt off (wonder who / which other families got those. Yum!) If the manager put more attention on expiration dates and not cooking "Extras" into the food, that would be great. A gourmet crab sandwich at McDonalds? Yes, you heard right. A new pilot test - this one of four south bay locations. I happen to be in the neighborhood and couldn't resist the temptation as this just hit the news today, 2/9/17. Its a flavorful sandwich - no surprise - a popular TV chef, Ryan Scott, helped out with the recipe. Celery, spices, tomato and lettuce on a delicate sourdough bun. It got all over the place as any delicious sandwich should - gone fast and I wanted more. Its a very light and reminded me of the fillet of fish in that respect. Finely chopped crab but good flavor. Value: its a big sandwich at a price much higher than you might expect - but since Fisherman's Wharf is 40 miles from the south bay locals could justify their purchase - especially if they don't have much time for lunch. Come try it. If it doesn't catch on you will always wonder what it was like. I have a feeling if it were $2 less it would be a big hit. The restaurant clean, employees friendly. A great experience here. Although they don't have any pre-made the wait time was very fast. FYI - popular San Jose burrito shop next door too that sells outrageously large 5lb burritos if your still hungry. I ordered a plain quarter pounder and a coke through the drive thru, as I was at the food window the lady handed me my coke and asked if I could pull up onto the side and park so they could finish my burger. No problems, it's understandable that a lot of McDonald's have the drive thru spots now, so I parked and waited for a few minutes. After I received my food, I did not expect there was anything wrong because it had the sticker with the right order on it and they took their time on one plain quarter pounder. I went home and looked at my food (with it being only around 5 mins away) and the burger was soggy as if it fell in some liquid or something. The whole side of my burger was soaked in some liquid and made the bread mushy and soggy. Some cold and soggy bread was also sticking to the bottom of the box as well. This might be all McDonald's, but I feel that this one in particular has rather tricky pricing. The cashiers aren't really there to help you out optimize or give suggestions for what's best for you, and I find that rather off putting when prices are so tricky with combos and whatnot. Consumers shouldn't have to do the math. This is why I am looking forward to McDonald's rolling out more kiosks where you can transparently see the price rather than the two-line display on the old cash registers. The Big Breakfast with Hotcakes is only ten cents more than the Hotcakes with Sausage, but it comes with scrambled eggs, an English muffin, and a hash brown. The hash brown in particular is rather egregious, given that it's a large item that people often order separately and that's not transparently outlined. The cashier should have told us it was only ten cents more rather than realize the disappointment after reviewing our order. On another instance, I caught that the Hamburger cost more than the Cheeseburger, as the latter was on the dollar menu, so I had to order a Cheeseburger without cheese. TIP: If you want a hamburger, don't order a hamburger since it costs more than a cheeseburger. Order a cheeseburger with no cheese. I don't know why I even have to do this or why I'm not going to In-N-Out instead. read more

My wife and I just stopped in on our way home. We were craving chocolate milk shakes. The person who took our order put us down for strawberry shakes. When I got to the window to get our shakes they were not chocolate. I said I'm sorry but we ordered chocolate. She muttered something then went to get up chocolate shakes. She held it up and it was vanilla. I said oh that's vanilla we want chocolate. She sneered this is chocolate. We took them then turned around and went to return the non chocolate shakes.
