Looked at a used car and it seemed okay, except it was leaking at the rear diff. They looked at it and said it wasn't leaking, just had recent service and that was excess fluid. On the carfax, it showed it had been serviced in 2010. Doubtfully the case 8 years later. They had it listed for $6,950. Went to look at some others and came back to this car fully intending to buy it and even willing to pay full price. The sales associate was finishing another deal so I went to look at it more and realized the window motor on one side was broken and the CD player was also not working. Still offered them a good price and they came back with a quote that had an added $895 for "accessories" plus their $189 dealer paperwork fee. When I asked what it was for, they told me the $895 was for an anti theft measure because they have had problems in the past. I asked if that was already done and was told it is standard and they couldn't remove that fee, even though I didn't feel the need for anti theft since I live in a very safe community. I explained how deceptive that seemed and that they should put that on the cost of the car or be more upfront, rather than getting another $1,000 in fees. I was ready to walk and she went back to her manager who said, "It's a used car, what do you expect?" In regards to the broken window motor. She also said, "Just don't roll that window down..." unacceptable from a dealership. I expect to pay a higher price from a dealership, but also then expect everything to work at a basic level. Very condescending and the fees are ridiculous. The manager then came over to tell me how great of a deal it was. I walked away from the deal after he refused to lower the price. I'm glad I did after reading some of these other reviews. I would never buy from them. read more

Everytime I come, it takes extremely long. Even after I talked to Scott the manager,I still waited till 9 just to be told my breaks needed a replacement. I was leaving the next day. I ended up w after market windshield wipers that make a horrible noise that was worse than when I had windshield wipers completely bare. I have a Jeep. I come here bc it's on my home from work. If I need basic things, I come. Plus I have the Nitro air. I did get a free oil change bc of the windshield wiper issue. My breaks seem a little noisy now at the light since they have been replace. I can't keep going back to wait two hours every time even when I have an appointment. read more

Used to be a great place. First my clutch burnt out at 20k miles... very abnormal. Brought it in, was told $100 to diagnose it. Received a call saying they need a go ahead for $1100 for a further diagnosis. So now they are deceiving me. I already told them what was wrong. They act like I didn't know anything and keep trying to push unnecessary parts on me... totaling to $5800!! I went in and said I need my clutch replaced, a clutch replacement does not cost $5800!! They will befriend you as much as they can but in reality they are still for the company, they could care less about the customer. They could not even give me another price. So ok, I get my car towed to another shop. That day I get a call from the mechanic, "hey your clutch kit will be here tomorrow. This is an OEM Honda clutch kit, for $450." $450!!!! Not $5800!!! The labor I'm paying for the shop still doesn't total up to $5800! I'm paying around $1500 TOTAL for a repair by a company that cares about their customers not one that will screw you for everything you have. Don't bother going here. If you make an appointment, they don't have anyone available. They get a sales rep that states they ate finishing up but then never follows up with you. My daughter and I waited at there facility for over an hour and a half and no one bothered to ask if we were being helped or check on us or assist us. Their online chat doesn't help either. We just had a few questions and wanted to do some test drives. We were not able to do that. But don't worry, after you are not important enough to help, they send an email to let you know what a pleasure it was to work with you that day. Since I bought my Honda here, I've been coming to get all of its routine services done here as well. Recently, I had air conditioning issues and instead of a single, high priced solution from Honda, I received all my options and costs, in order to fix the issue temporarily or permanently. Ron Kappes was great to deal with. He was honest and fair with our options and felt like he was giving us advice as if he was in our shoes. By far the worst customer service I've ever received. My wife and I went to look at a Honda CRV. The initial interaction with the salesman was pleasant. He was knowledgable and was willing to find us the right car. However, once the process progressed to the finance department that's when the issues started. The numbers where ridiculous! I was planning on trading my car, which I knew I would be upside down. The CRV was $29k and we had to tack on an extra $8k from my trade in. So overall the car was going to cost us somewhere around $37k+. The finance guy gave us this bogus number. He claimed that this car, which was going to be around $37k, was going to be $1600 a month!!! The lowest he could do was $800 a month!! My credits amazing, I've bought plenty of cars and have always received the lowest and best interest rate so I know that wasn't the issue. Upon seeing these numbers I wanted nothing to do with this dealership. When ready to leave we were met at the door by the finance manager who held my keys to my car hostage. He was very rude and confrontational. He claimed there was nothing wrong with the numbers and that people around this area pay that all the time. So he basically insulted us saying we couldn't afford the car. It's hard to fathom that people are willing to pay $1600 a month for a car. This guy was the typical car salesman. One track mind and all about the money. Once he realize we weren't going to buy he resulted to insulting us. I would never recommend this dealership to anyone. Terrible. Dishonest. Impersonal. Not knowledgeable about the car I was buying. The prices they list online are fixed! They do not budge on price. They explained, "We list our lowest price online, that's why its fixed, if we didn't no one would come in here." Well, that's true! The approx. 20 y/o that was showing me the car knew absolutely nothing about it stating that it was a custom color and had a body kit put on it by the previous owner, nope! None of that is true it was just an uncommon color and a standard Sport model. Bullying sales tactics. Finally agreed to look at the other car loan rates they could offer me after being bullied into it. 2.5 HOURS LATER... They didn't show me other loan rates, they applied and approved me for a Chase bank loan and shoved it in a stack of other papers for me to sign. DISHONEST. Not to mention that loan had a 7.9% interest rate which they blamed on my credit when the loan I walked in there with had a 4.2% interest rate... SLIMEY SLIMEY SLIMEY. When sitting in the Business Manager's office, crying may I add because I was so upset with their service, his boss walked by and through the glass told him to hurry up, they had just sold 5 more cars. IMPERSONAL. After all that they continued to mess everything up. A few weeks later new license plates came in the mail even though I was very clear that I was transferring registration and didn't need new plates or the extra charge for them! I mention this because my 3 year lease is about up and I live 5 minutes from this dealership and have no intention of stopping by for my next Honda. It's off to Skokie again. Horrible, horrible, horrible customer service! Rude employees with no customer service skills! They try to tell you it's not covered under warranty (when it is). I got that resolved but when it came time for their "shuttle service", I was told they were going to be there at 6:30 to pick me up and no one showed. At 7:00 I called, and they said, "I'm sure someone will be there" and they hung up before I could say anything else. The guy showed up at 7:20 and then had an attitude, pointed to the paper and said, "it says here 6:30". Was he serious? I asked him if he could tell time, because it was 7:20, not 6:30 anymore. The service manager was very nice and apologetic and made sure everything was taken care of when I arrived, they also gave me a credit towards my next oil change. I was a customer of McGrath Honda of Elgin But No More! The first time I was at the dealer was with my mother in law and she wanted to buy a used Honda Pilot and she was trading an almost New Honda CRV but she wanted a bigger truck, during the sale I thought she was being pushed by the sales staff quite hard for their deal, this was so bad that I suggested we go out to lunch and they called and gave a little better deal over the phone. The next time I was interested in a used Honda Ridgeline that No other dealers seemed to have at the time, so I was forced to go back to McGrath and deal with this dealership again. Well they have changed their sales tactics and NOT for your benefit. With my mother in law we dealt with one salesman, this time I felt like a baby lamb put out to for Wolves to feast on. At the beginning of sale I was dealing with one guy he was nice his name was Derek buy the end I was surrounded by 3 salesman who made sure I got nothing I wanted. After the sale I asked my salesman what had been done to the truck service wise he didn't know, so I figured I would get the fluids changed one by one since I got 2 free oil changes in the sale. I called the McGrath's service and told them that I had 2 free oil changes and he Rudely told me they must be used in 12 months I also wanted their price for changing transmission fluid and he said $169 for that and I asked him if they price match he said they Do Not , I couldn't believe that, because all the surrounding dealers were at $99! I had a very bad accident with my '08 Odyssey, and needed to replace it. Thinking that a pre owned vehicle was the way to go, I spent weeks looking at that option. Not the best. Went in to McGrath after having called in and spoken to Matt, and they took care of me. Exceptionally. From the moment I walked in (and that first night, it was myself and my three boys aged 12, 10, and 8) they made sure I was taken care of. I was set up with a salesman, but frankly he was more than that. Everyone seemed to know who I was. Everyone worked as a team. I really appreciated that. My sales associate was Anthony, and he's just great. Good at his job - of course - but a good person as well. As a single woman making a major purchase like this, like it or not, sometimes it isn't easy. Salespeople can discriminate. Anthony made it easy, he made it fun, and I felt I had someone who understood my needs and my financial parameters. As well, Kenny W. made sure I came out feeling pretty good financially. Don't go anywhere else. If you know what you want, they're your people. If you don't, they'll help you figure it all out. NOW, I not only had a good experience but an outstanding one. I was fortunate enough to have Anthony Juliano as my salesperson. A exceptional, outstanding person. I don't have enough adjectives to describe the service I received. Anthony is knowledgeable, professional, patient, and most of all caring. I started my car buying journey in January. I had a decision to make! Should I keep my car, a C RV, get a new one, maybe smaller, and of course cost entered into whatever decision I made. Anthony didn't try to influence me or push me into a decision. He was my sounding board offering thoughtful questions and comments that made me think. I know and felt he had my best interest at heart. Due to some minor health issues I put my car decision on hold. At the beginning of March I called and set an appointment with Anthony, still not sure what I wanted to do. After several more visits and lots of thought, I decided to lease a new C RV. It's a beautiful red, love it. I'm very pleased and comfortable with my decision. I must mention the service and attention I received from McGrath Honda. When I walked in the door the receptionist gave my a nice smile and a welcoming " how can I help you". I don't know if many business realize how important that first contact is, it sets the tone for going forward. The sales manager and financial persons were outstanding. I am currently here with my accord that I did not buy from the dealership. I have been sitting in waiting for 3 hours with it, which is what I expected. The 3 stars are not for that. I have had my 2015 crv, which I bought here, in service at least 6 times. They do not fix the problem, I assume because they make no money on it. It isn't a big problem, but one that needs to be fixed. That is annoying that they don't seem to care in service. When I bought my crv here the process was ok. I negotiated the price I wanted online, came in and they didnt want to give me the price. I held my line and eventually we settled. I was there for at least 5 hours. They offer water but no food, which sucks when you feel like your held captive there like a prisoner. However I did get my price and left, and I like that car. Tl;dr? Service department needs a lot of work in customer service, as well as fixing the problem instead of making me go there 6 times and still not fixing it. Buying a car is ok, but hold your line and if they don't give it to you...leave! That car will be available elsewhere. read more

I was looking for a Civic Type R so I called Mcgrath Honda in Elgin and a Few other dealers in the area and let them know I was interested in the car and would like them to give me a call when it came in. Finally I got a call from 2 dealers who had a car coming in, Planet Honda in Matteson and McGrath in Elgin. While I was on my way to Matteson, McGrath called me in my car and told me whatever Planet Honda did for me they would work with me and beat their deal. The customer service rep at McGrath assured me they would work with me to put me in a Type R today. So I drove to Elgin and the civic R was on the showroom floor.A Friendly female salesperson greeted me and my girlfriend and I told her my story,so we start some paperwork and she walks over to the manager counter, she comes back with a manager who looked annoyed and he told me there was a $10,000 markup on the car! They bullshitted me on the phone and got me to drive there and then he told me this gouging story about how he has no choice and it's a hot car and whatever. Why didn't they just tell me on the phone and save me a trip? I told him that I could pay a small amount over sticker like 2 grand but he still insisted on the $10,000,unbelievable. This dealer is a greedy dealer only interested in pulling your pockets inside out and stealing your lint. I will never go back to McGrath Honda in Elgin. read more

When I purchased my new car from McGrath Honda, one of the amenities touted was free automated car washes for as long as we owned the car. Little upc sticker was attached and we were told just pull up to the car wash and we could go through. Before the beginning of this past winter, the posted that for safety, you would need to pull up to a sales Dept and a valet would take your car through the wash. Quite the hassle but understandable for winter. Now that summer is back, we called to find out if they were back to normal operations and we are told no and there are apparently no plans to return to that practice. I'm sure this cuts down on the number of car washes and the "safety" issue was just subterfuge. I won't be going back to McGrath for service or to purchase a new car. read more

There should be a zero star option! I brought our 2008 Accord to McGrath Honda on Thursday, May 23, 2019 because the battery light kept going on and off. When I drove into the service center the service technicians asked if I was there because of the squeak coming out of the car. I told them no, but that they could look at the squeak, as well. I told them that our main issue was the battery and not to do anything with the car until we knew what was going on with the battery because the car was 11 years old and almost 175,000 miles on it. They called us back on Friday, May 24th to let us know that the brakes and rotors on the car needed to be replaced and that they ran a diagnostic (I believe is called a GR8) on the battery and that they couldn't find anything wrong with it. They told my husband that they scraped off some rust and cleaned the rods and that it was fine. We told them to replace the brakes and rotors since they said that they found nothing wrong with the battery. We picked up the car Saturday, May 25th and paid $1100.00 for the brakes and rotors. On Tuesday, May 28 I called because the battery light was coming on and staying on significantly longer. I asked exactly what the diagnostic test for the battery said and they admitted to me that although they charged me for the test, NOTHING WAS EVER TESTED REGARDING THE BATTERY!!!! In other words, they took our money (roughly $85) to test the battery and run the diagnostics and never did it. They apologized and sent someone over to pick up the car and give us a loner so that they could run the test we already thought they ran on our car. The service manager, Kellie, the said, "For your information, we let go the service person that was helping you on Saturday." Why she felt the need to tell me this I can only assume is because he obviously was not doing his job correctly. He shafted us, but it does not matter to me that he was let go, McGrath Honda hired him. It is their job to rectify his mistakes. Keep in mind that we had already put $1100 into the car 3 days prior under the assumption that the information they gave us regarding the battery was correct. They called me this morning May 30th, to inform me that the car battery light was going on because it needed a new spool valve and alternator to the tune of $2000! The car is not even worth $3000. Why on this earth would anyone put that much money into an 11 year old car that was in 2 accidents and that has over 173,000 miles on it? I told her that this whole thing was ridiculous and that had the run the diagnostic test that they charged us for in the first place and found the problem with the battery, we would have just sold or scrapped the car because it is only worth $2300. I told her that we would NOT have gotten the brakes or rotors fixed had we known that the alternator and spool valve were bad. She insisted that we need the brakes and rotors done regardless because the brakes only had 1mm left on them and were not safe. After NUMEROUS tries trying to explain to her that had they run the test in the first place, we would not have gotten anything done to the care because of its value, she still couldn't wrap her head around the fact they they basically stole $1100 from us for brakes and rotors that will never be used. She offered to drop the price and that we would ONLY have to pay an addition $1200. Are you kidding me? She can justify spending a total of $2300 on a car that is worth about just that. Absurd! Then Kelly had the audacity to say that even though they did not run the test that the light did not go on while they had the car and that they couldn't keep the car indefinitely waiting for it to go on. They originally had the car for less than 24 hours the first time to let us know that we needed the brakes and rotors. I wasn't aware that indefinitely meant less than 24 hours. So, to sum this up, we now have a useless car that we cannot drive with brand new breaks and rotors because McGrath Honda did not run a test that we were charged for and lied and said that the car was fine. They then proceeded to tell us that we refused services that they suggested. Yes, we did, but had they run the test they charged us for on the 23rd in the first place and we knew the TOTAL amount it would cost to fix the car, we would not have put a dime into it. Who else have they charged for doing diagnostics that were not done and who else have they scammed? In hindsight, they probably did the diagnostic, knew we wouldn't put the money into the car, LIED and said the battery was fine and said we only needed the brakes and rotors so that they could make the extra $1100. Don't walk...run from these thieves!!!! read more

I live in Milwaukee but traveled to Elgin to purchase my Honda because they had the vehicle with the specifications I wanted. I didn't realize when I signed the purchase agreement that the remote start I bought would need to be installed at another time because they need about 5 hours to complete this. Over a year later I finally had a day off of work to get down to Elgin for this installation. They told me "We Owes" are only good for 30 days, however, they honored it anyway and in this cold and frosty time of year it has been a life saver. Thank you! read more

Not sure how or what qualifies her as a manager but someone needs to train her on manners and how to deal with customers.
