Best Halibut fish I've ever had. Best tiramisu I've ever had. The meal, quite literally, made me cry a little - it was That good. Hubby loved the shrimp cocktail, says he hasn't encountered better in many years. He's pretty picky, too. I'm still geeking out over the food, I had to take half of it home. The portion sizes are pretty big. We had such a good time, that we decided to make it our "anniversary restaurant". I can't wait to go again, I highly recommend. The wait staff was wonderful. I ordered the plank rockfish. It was dry and overcooked. I ordered it because ordered it a few days before and it was ok almost good. I liked the chowder so thought I'd order the same thing again. Chowder was good but fish was not. I hoped they would comp us but they didn't. There is really nothing special about this place. If you are a fish house you should at least get that right. read more

An absolutely fabulous lunch with stellar service by Kristy (Christie/ Christy ?) My parents and I dined at McGraths near Lancaster Mall today. The bread was warm, our appetizer of steamer clams delicious, and our entrees delicious !!! My mother's Sole -piccata with mashed potatoes & green beans was delightful, my father's fried oysters a real treat and my poke tacos the best I've had in ages. Took my nephew out for a birthday lunch. We are out-of-towners and have never been to McGrath's. I found the menu comprehensive with many choices. The overall vibe is old school fish house which is fine by me. The waitress was friendly and attentive. I had grilled prawns skewers that were very yummy. My nephew has prawn pasta which he enjoyed very much. The prices were reasonable and portions were generous. Overall it was a very nice meal. Ordered the sole for a little over $21. The sole was maybe 1/8" thick, if that, mostly breading. It really surprised me. The rice pilaf was like puffy Spanish rice luke warm, tasteless. McGrath's has become a treasured haven for our family. The service is wonderful and warm. We have never had a dish here that was not delicious (even my picky seafood hater enjoys the burgers and chicken dishes) from the seafood to pastas to loaded salads. It is never super busy and the experience always seems quaint. My kids love the pier-inspired decor. It is a go-to spot for celebrations, whether big or small life victories. read more

I was at the Salem McGrath's for lunch last week and it was so good. Best Shrimp Louis outside San Francisco. Fresh hot sourdough bread, great service and really comfortable. In my book, McGrath's is our best seafood restaurant. We eat here often, and the food is always fresh and deliciously prepared. The dinner salad that comes with your meal is large, with freshly cut veggies (not out of a bag). Their bread is fresh and tastey, and the desserts... delectable! We almost always sit in the bar area only because we love the atmosphere. we were visiting friends and came to dinner here. decent service, okay food. however, they severely overcook the fresh salmon. I've been eating salmon the equivalent of medium - medium rare for about 50 years, but when I tried to order the wood grilled fresh Chinook salmon that way, I was informed that they only cook it well done because "it's toxic and poisonous if not cooked well done.". i asked for it as lightly done as possible and I got the most over-cooked salmon I have ever had. it had about as much salmon taste as slightly damp cardboard, and about the same texture. very disappointing . if medium rare salmon was poisonous and toxic, I should be dead about a thousand times over, and I seem to be alive and well and very healthy at 77! and, I have never been sick from eating my salmon medium rare. read more

First, I am single, and I hate when the automatically seat a single woman in the worst possible place, when the restaurant is half empty. Right by the kitchen entrance. I almost turned around and walked out when I entered the lobby: some type of metal grunge song was playing really loud- I even had a hard time hearing the hostess. I did let my waitress know I wasn't a fan of the music choice. I thought maybe it would change, but those types of songs just kept playing. Good grief, I am 67 but most of the people in there were at least 10 to 15 years older then me. McGrath's is a family favorite for us. The food is very good and manages an authentic Oregon fish-house feel. We had the Shrimp Extravaganza the other night and the shrimp was excellent and plentiful. Service is always good and seating is easy to get. They also have a good bar for a quick or relaxing drink or dinner or while waiting for the rest of your party. We've had family gatherings up to 14 and they were always accommodating. It's funny - the clientele is heavily weight to gray hair. Nothing wrong with that but it is rather noticeable how few younger adults visit the establishment. Anyway, we like McGraths and will continue to go. I'm glad they are a Salem fixture. read more

Couldn't make it to Newport this trip to Salem so did the local place instead. Good food from large menu selection. Wait staff provided very good service and selections served piping hot. Good traditional chowder lacking "other" fillers. Plenty of clams and sturdy stock. Traditional seafood environment, cozy but not cramped. read more

The night we went was a weeknight and not super busy but we waited patiently for a table. It felt lonely there so it surprised me that there was that long of a wait, I ordered fish and chips cause I figured I bet it's really good. No, my fish was soggy and really blah tasting.
