Okay, Yelpers, you had me come to Motown half an hour earlier than I would have for a planned lunch at Golden Corral with family just to get my car smogged across the street. Thank you. Not a lot I can say beyond what has been said. It's a small, clean shop with good rates and great service. Nothing condescending or gruff about these men. On a side note, they love pugs and have several "American Graffiti" pics hanging on the garage wall. Great, great, GREAT place! AAA DMV said I needed a smog check to get my stickers for registration. I called McHenry Smog and they gave me an appointment for later that they. They did it so fast and gave me the certificate. $40 for a 2015 SUV. The lady at the front desk was very nice. The man who did it, Kuhn, I believe, was so very nice and welcoming. This place is totally awesome. I called on a Monday, made an appointment for a few hours later. Business was booming, parking was very tight. The receptionist is a real sweetheart, treats you with respect. She's quick, knows what's she's doing and kept the tech busy. The tech was also on the ball. He was hustling, doing everything per Smog Regulations. I watched the tech do a few smogs before mine and he seemed to really care for the customer, me made sure he wore gloves and kept your vehicle clean. With Covid this is a concern. I was so impressed with the system the receptionist and the tech had I was in and out with in 30 minutes. These two were working hard, they both had smiles and appreciated my business. Thank you! DONT COME HERE! This place will fail you for every and anything they can possibly find! I've came here twice, once with a truck that had no problems, and they failed me but it passed as soon as I got a second look at it at another place without making any changes to it! and another time with my Honda and my Honda passed every single thing there was to pass about smog, but the guy went further and inspected my car then he found a reason to try to get more money out me and he failed me for not having a cam shaft cover! All never go back these people they are out of there minds....what does a cam shaft cover have to do with smog? read more

I called this morning to get an idea of cost for a smog and certificate for a vehicle transfer. They were very friendly and helpful, quoted me $40 out the door. I did not set an appointment as I had several other appointments to go to prior to this, plus I had my newborn with me and was not sure if he would still be doing okay after running around all morning. Around 1PM I stopped in with my little guy who was napping and was promptly greeted and was told it would only be ten minutes. If it was ten minutes that was the fastest ten minutes of my life! The price was as quoted over the phone and I was back on the road in no time. I will definitely be back for future smog jobs. read more

They can be pretty busy, but if you call ahead, they'll make you an appointment, and they are good about getting their appointments in on time or early.
