I had a lovely brunch at McKay Cottage Restaurant last weekend with four girlfriends. We ate in the tent outside. Our waiter was very friendly, and I appreciated his suggestion to try the cocoa mint tea. It was so good that I am hunting it down online! The Eggs Benedict was very good, and all of my dining companions also enjoyed their food. The tent was very warm, though not at all charming and smelling a little bit of natural gas. Very cute place, friendly service, and good food! Took myself out to breakfast a couple days ago, this restaurant has such a cozy-home vibe. Lots of good option on the menu and loved that i was able to upgrade to a specialty scone with my meal! At a lot of breakfast places it seems like you have to choose between sweet or savory, although that's not the case here! As you can see there are two coffees in the picture, when the server brought me the first one he asked how it was and very kindly made me another one. Im always skeptical when a business bills itself as winning awards...but this place is only flaunting their fabulousness. The food, the service and every thing they do are superb!!! They literally don't need to advertise how great it is...but they do. I had the Carnitas Torta today, and it was amazing. The fries. Amazing. Our server, amazing. the wait, amazing (the only negative thing). We waited about 35 minutes for 3 people, which honestly is good for this place. I expected longer! Harvest Hash is also great! Birthday weekend in Bend Oregon. BF surprised me with this cute breakfast cottage for birthday breakfast. No reservations, they open at 7 am and it's first come first serve. Of all the recommended eating spots in Bend this was the most overrated. The breakfast was extremely basic, but at premium prices. We also stayed at Brasada Ranch which offered similar quality and prices, but that's a resort. The pumpkin coffee cocktail was very good, but the price point just too high. Service including the hostess was above average. If you're searching for a memorable breakfast try the Lemon Tree and skip this mediocre spot. read more

Best brunch in town! And great value for what you get. They don't do reservations and it's usually a wait when you arrive because of how popular they are but once your name is down, they are quick to get you a drink while you wait. The staff is accommodating and it's one of my favorite places to sit outdoors and eat. Great vibes at McKay! read more

OMG! The harvest hash was 90% bacon and huge! Plus it came with fresh fruit - strawberries, blueberries, blackberries, cantaloupe, melon. While the menu is not that deep (not many choices), what they serve is outstanding and worth the visit and money. Our first server wasn't too friendly but the male server was very pleasant and assured we had everything we needed and then some! Coffee was the price of Starbucks but tasted better so worth it! Hubby had the cottage potatoes and it was huge with lots of potatoes and ham. Both meals also came with a scone with fresh homemade jam. Definitely worth a try if you're in Bend or near. Sometimes it's the little things that add a lot. From the beginning you feel welcomed at McKay Cottage. The staff is pleasant and engaging without feeling overbearing. Water and coffee came to the table promptly with a carafe of extra coffee so you can get a second cup with ease. I ordered the high desert hash. This comes with a scone to start which was at the table minutes after placing my order. It came with a little jar of jam and a tin of Isigny Ste Mère butter. Again, the little things that add to the meal. The hash itself was a wonderful mix of fresh tasting asparagus, kale, peppers, crispy potatoes and sausage. This is all held together with a nice melty cheese and topped with two hollandaise coated poached eggs. Everything blended together well. A wonderful mix of textures and subtle layers of flavor all perfectly seasoned. This was paired with a lovely fruit cup that was a perfect palate cleanser. My criticisms are few here but I will say that the poached eggs, while still good, were just slightly over cooked. I also wasn't a big fan of the particular chicken sausage that the selected. Something maybe just a little bit bolder would have suited me more but this is totally a personal preference. When in Bend this is a must try breakfast spot. I can't imagine anyone would go away feeling like it wasn't worth it. read more

Remembered I had a good breakfast here about 7 years ago so a return when I was in town was in order. The daily special was a carnitas hash so that was the order. After drinks ( small carafe of coffee)were delivered the waiter dropped off their standard butter scone. Meal came up not quick not slow. Looked great, tasted better. Almost too big for me, and I have a hearty appetite. Quaint space...remodeled old house? Service was attentive. Go when you have plenty of time, took about an hour with no wait to be seated and I beat the rush. I parked in the side gravel lot as I remembered parking was a bit tight. Go here! read more

This food was great! There is almost a Mexican hint to their food with the spices and a spin on the classic breakfast food. My husband and I wanted some hearty breakfast on a chilly morning and this hit the spot. The inside of the restaurant was full, but they had a great seating area that was covered under a tent and had a heater inside of it, so it was very cozy to sit outside. This cute little place reminds me of a famous restaurant in old town Auburn. The food is just amazing and everything is so fresh. I ordered the Baja chicken hash stack. Next time I order anything from here I will more than likely split it between two or three people. Great big portions so you are not leaving hungry. The Coffee's were amazing, especially the "adult" versions. The croissant French toast was so good not to mention the jalapeño cheddar scone. Can't wait to go back and try everything else. read more

Best food we had while in Bend! We had the special which was a hash of steak, onion, pepper, with a chipotle hollandaise sauce, a side of berries, and we got a side of regular hollandaise! It was absolutely delicious! The hollandaise was smooth, tangy, and the chipotle version had the perfect amount of kick! The poached egg on top had a beautiful creamy yolk, and the melted cheese brought it all together. What I was most surprised about was the fresh berries and melon! They were so sweet, crisp, and a nice contrast to the savory breakfast! Delicious! Their check in was easy, and they have an app where you can see your wait time, and where you are in line! I love this because it holds them accountable, as now you have a legit timer for how long your wait is. We were 6th in line, and waited 17 minutes total. The place was packed inside and out, on a Thursday morning. If the wait was longer, I would wait, the food is worth it. Of course it helps that the service was too notch, everyone was amazing from check in, to ordering, to leaving. I will go back here in the future! read more

Came on a Tuesday afternoon for brunch. I loved that while you waited, they serve drinks! I ordered their famous bloody Mary and it was very good. It had a nice kick to it! Both in terms of spice and alcohol :) We were then seated inside next to the window which was nice because it started to storm and it was cool to watch the rain pouring down. I ordered the shrimp and chorizo hash with a side of Marionberry scone. The hash unfortunately was just not good. It tasted more like plain ground beef. And the shrimp were dry; you could tell they had been previously frozen. The potatoes were decent though. The scone was quite yummy, especially with melted butter and jam. If I were to return, I'd stick to the classics. read more

What a terrific weekend brunch idea! We were visiting from out of town and picked this restaurant off of yelp and was pleasantly surprised. We sat outside on a brisk Saturday morning to be met with blankets and a fire pit in the middle of our table. Our fur-baby was treated with a fresh bowl of water and a biscuit that was huge! There was a wait for the food but they bring out your pastries early while they are processing all the orders. I also enjoyed the cheddar chive biscuit. Came with lots of potatoes. Could only finish 1/2 and 1/4 potatoes. Great texture with meats and egg and biscuit. Stuffed French toast: 4 stars. not too sweet. Could share for two. Creamy and the berry compote balanced out the sweetness with a little tart. It was all gone. And I asked for a second bite which is rare for me. Gourmet breakfast sandwich: 4 stars according to the kids. Great bread and filling. But too much onions. This was our favorite meal during our short trip to Bend! We came on a Monday around 12:30pm and we had to wait around 45 minutes to be seated. They had a nice shaded waiting area and a hostess asked us if we wanted drinks while we wait. The mango lemonade was very refreshing... especially after coming from a long hike at Smith Rock! We ordered the Croissant French Toast and McKay Cottage Potatoes. Both were fantastic! The French toast was very rich. I didn't even need the maple syrup and butter since it was already so decadent. The potatoes were a massive portion and came with a lot of bacon and smoked ham. It was super fulfilling and satisfying. The only thing that could have been better was the scone. We decided to upgrade to a speciality scone, but the consistency was like cake and it seemed microwaved. We had a great brunch and enjoyed dining on their dog-friendly outdoor patio area. For both of our trips to Bend we have ended the trip with a meal here before we make the drive back to WA and I think it is a perfect way to end the trip as the breakfast and atmosphere here are top notch. In addition to serving wonderful and generous breakfast portions they also have a great selection of homemade pastries to choose from and you really can't go wrong with whatever you select. This most recent time we split a meal, which I always recommend if you are about to begin a drive as otherwise the leftovers go bad. They were kind enough to bring it out on two separate portioned plates for us. This most recent time we ordered the Hoodoo Hash and it had a lot going on but all the flavors meshed well and it was a delicious hearty breakfast. The sweet potatoes and brisket were the stars and what I believe to be a homemade or local hot sauce was a delicious accompaniment. We also got a sticky bun and scone with homemade jam and those were nice sweet treats. We prefer sitting outside and they have nice fire tables which really add to the ambience. This place does get packed so I recommend showing up early as we had no wait upon arrival but even on a Tuesday by the time we left the lot and restaurant were full and there was a long wait. McKays is the best breakfast spot in Bend, hands down! The ambiance, service, food and drinks and impossible to compete with. Be prepared for a wait, especially during weekend brunch because it is the place to be. There is a nice outdoor seating area while you wait, complementary water & coffee and the option to order other drinks while you wait. I've come here to celebrate my birthday on 2 different occasions and they always make it festive with a birthday cinnamon roll! The pastries are too die for and the cinnamon roll is so soft, fluffy, cinnamon filled and topped with an amazing frosting. The mimosas are beautiful with the little strawberry! I came here Saturday and had the most amazing server, Meadow. Not only did she provide excellent service, but she was friendly, personable and made everyone in her section feel special! I ordered the eggs Benedict with the quinoa veggie patty which made it stand out from others I've had. The hollandaise sauce was so creamy and there was just the right amount. The potatoes were perfect and I appreciated the Portland ketchup and hot sauce. I also had my first Bloody Mary and it was honestly a bit too strong, but presented beautifully and pretty tasty.
