I dined at McKendrick's for a graduation celebration and I must say, the service was amazing. We were probably a party of 15 or so and our server was on top of it! Our food was also pretty good. My team had dinner at the Atlanta McKendricks. Many had steak and based on the completely clean plates at the end I would say everyone loved their steaks. I had the Grouper. McKendrick's is a high end steakhouse located near Perimeter Mall. It is always an option for the family for special occasions like birthdays or other celebrations. My wife and adult children took me there this past weekend for my birthday. The restaurant is very comfortable and inviting. I noted a sign on the door setting a dress code - I have no problem with this but it makes me wonder why they felt the need to post it. In any case, the wait staff is always very professional and attentive. Our server, Ed, was very friendly and had multiple suggestions. I ordered the grouper which came a la carte with "dipping sauce." If I recall the price was around $35, which is on the high end for a piece of fish with no sides. The fish was fresh and tasty but a little bland. I ordered a house salad, which was excellent and a baked potato (also excellent) and the rest of our party enjoyed their entrees and a variety of sides. My wife picked up the tab (it was my birthday after all) but our tab ran well over $300 for a party of 5 which is pricy. For that kind of coin I kind of expect to be blown away and that didn't happen, at least this time. All in all a very good meal but, for me, the value proposition was not there. read more

The creamed corn and garlic mashed potato's were good too. Not as garlicky as I'd like but they were really creamy. Paired well with the steak. The roasted okra were nothing special. We decided to try out McKendrick's as it seemed to be good based on Yelp reviews and made reservations on a Saturday night with our small group of friends. We ordered some oysters for appetizers to share, and my husband and I ordered the Chef's bone in ribeye and scallops as entrees. We requested the steak to be cooked medium rare - it did come out slightly more rare than we are used to, however the piece of steak that we received had way too much fat, almost 1/3 of the steak was untouched. since the steak was cooked on the rare side and we just aren't used to eat it that way. Our friend got the same cut, but his piece was normal. Our friends also ordered a medium rare porterhouse that came out raw, which they took back and cooked again. I was very disappointed in a restaurant that I have patronized and recommended since 2003. I made a reservation for a birthday celebration and a member of my party had on sweatpants so we were told we couldn't be seated so we said ok and walked outside. As we stood there a gentleman and a lady walked in and were promptly seated when he had on sweat shorts, tennis shoes and a tee shirt that you would buy from a bar. I couldn't help but go back inside and inquire how that was possible. Needless to say we were the wrong completion because the hostess flat out lied and said the gentleman had on golf shorts. In taking into consideration that things are different during COVID-19 please understand that my review is reflective of this. First off, McKendrick's doesn't need to do take out. This is a 4-5 star restaurant that is way too expensive for things to go wrong with the restaurant refusing to fix it. I got lucky because I never left the premise. Here's what happened. I ordered a well done steak along with vegetables and a little caramelized onions. For starters, I love steak however, I am one who has to has to have a steak well done otherwise, I will get sick. I made it very clear to the server on the phone that I wanted my steak well done. I even told her that it could be extra well done. Once I got my order, I didn't have any utensils in the bag. Then I looked at the $83.00+ check and wondered why something looked off. They charged me $8.95 for the caramelized onions. I told the server that the onions were a garnish, not a side. He took forever to adjust the check but they did get that part fixed. Once I got my utensils I asked my husband to pull in a parking space so I can have a bite of the steak. I took a cut into the part on the edge and it was fine, but once I took a cut in the center, it was obvious that the steak wasn't well done. I called and spoke with a manager who told me there was nothing he could do about it because I ordered take out. He went on to say that he would make note of it. He then suggested that I put the steak in the oven to get it to my desired style. Now we're not talking about a Waffle House, Shonny's or Piccadilly steak. We're talking about a $50+dollar steak! The manager told me there was nothing he could do and to put it in the oven. He went on to say that people will call him about their asparagus being too watery after it leaves the restaurant. He said he couldn't guarantee take out. I then told him that I was in the parking lot. He told me to bring it in. I asked if he could come out and get it. He said no. The reason we did curbside to begin with is because we didn't want to go in the restaurant! Nevertheless, my husband took the steak back in and they apparently put it on the grill so it could cook a little more. I hate to tell you, but they still didn't get it right. Once I got home, I ended up putting it in the microwave to cook the rest of the way. This was my first time at McKendricks and more than likely, my last. Not only was the service bad, the overall steak didn't taste any better than what you would get at a restaurant that serves steaks!!!! As a matter of fact, Maggianos across the street offers a superior Ribeye with amazing caramelized onions that tastes way better than McKendricks. The taste of the food is very forgettable. The French Oinon soup had a decent flavor however, the cheese congealed the actual broth so there wasn't much broth to taste. I've never dine with McKendricks before but from what I can tell, it seems to be more of an atmosphere/experience type restaurant. They need to discontinue take out/curbside. If they keep take out, they should offer either a different menu or limited menu and they should lower the price. Paying near $100 for one meal for things to go wrong without the possibility of recourse is not worth it. By the way, everything went wrong and I still tipped the server 20%! read more

Great place if you're looking to go on a date tables are separated pretty well and there's is also some very comfortable booths. McKendrick's is a classic steakhouse located near Perimeter Mall in Dunwoody. It's in the Park Place Shopping Center with other restaurants and cafes such as Alon's, Cafe Intermezzo, and Eclipse di Luna. McKendrick's opened in the Atlanta area in 1995 and there is only one location (it's not a chain). This is an upscale, elegant, and classy restaurant. It's a bit old fashioned, but that's how most nice steakhouses go. It's a popular place. In the evenings, the ambiance is dimly lit and intimate, ideal for a romantic date. There are white tablecloths and formally dressed servers who are professional and knowledgeable. Depending on party size, seating can get snug/cozy (but still comfortable), especially at the tables. If you want to have a better date experience, reserve a booth. McKendrick's has a straightforward menu of steaks and seafood. As with other fine steakhouses, all items are ordered a la carte. Appetizers include dishes such as Maine lobster bisque, Oysters Rockefeller, and escargot. There's a raw bar with shrimp, oysters, tuna, and more. There are about 10 different steaks, from an 8-oz. center-cut filet to a 24-oz. bone-in ribeye, a couple veal/lamp chops, and a half dozen fish to choose from. In the evenings, expect to spend about $10 per appetizer, salad, or side, $40-50 per steak, $30-40 per fish entree, and $50-60 per lobster entree. The food is simple yet delicious. Here's a rundown of items I've tried: Steaks: Kansas City Strip. 18 oz. Chef's Cut Bone-In Ribeye. 24 oz. Sides: Sauteed Jumbo Mushrooms Creamed Spinach French Beans (in Garlic Butter) Asparagus (with Hollandaise Sauce) Garlic Mashed Potatoes While it's probably hard to go wrong with any of McKendrick's steaks, I sometimes steer towards the bone-in steaks for more flavor. Both the Kansas City Strip and Chef's Cut Ribeye are served with the bone. I'm no steak expert, but I think one of the primary differences between a KC strip and NY strip (both offered on the menu here) is the KC strip comes with a bone while the NY strip does not. Both strip steaks are cut from the short loin (middle of the back). I prefer to have my steaks cooked medium rare (warm, red center) to medium (pink center). I chose to have both the KC strip and the bone-in ribeye cooked medium rare. The steaks were fantastic. They were very satisfying with mouthwatering flavor. The KC strip was tender, juicy, and flavorful. It was leaner than the bone-in ribeye, which was softer and more rich and buttery. Both steaks are big, so come hungry if you want to tackle one of them in a single sitting. The sides are good. The garlic mashed potatoes are my favorite, probably because there's so much garlic and butter in them. The baked creamed spinach is served piping hot. It's appetizing and delicious with a slightly hard/crispy top layer. The sauteed jumbo mushrooms, French beans (green beans), and asparagus are all nicely cooked. The green beans and asparagus still have a nice firmness to them. The asparagus pieces are large and the plate comes with a side of thick and tasty Hollandaise sauce. Included with each meal is a complimentary basket of sliced bread. It includes a few different types of bread. Service is great. Book reservations on OpenTable and earn free dining points. Valet parking is available directly outside and there are plenty of free self-park spaces too. read more

Wonderful late night steak dinner, cozy dark wood as steakhouses are wont to be, and a gloried past that the decor did well to usher in. Loved the vase of flowers upon entering, and the overall look. Food: Killed it... so "bad"( the michael jackson kind of bad). From the walnut bread to the great sides of roasted veg (ea. about $8, we tried the seasonal okra and butternut squash), to the perfectly cooked mero sea bass ($26?) and NY Strip (12 oz ran $40) I was in tears about my meal. After spending almost $200 for 2, we left unfulfilled, hungry, and frankly regretful. I do not recommend the mushroom risotto as it so bland, even salt could not save it. The bone-in ribeye did not stand out as a "prime steak." Everything from texture to flavor was off.. we have been to many high end steakhouses, and this does not compare. The perfect dinner. I was with a group, so we were able to sample a wide variety of the food here. I had to order the steak tartar because I had it once a long time ago and I liked it. Most of my friends had never tried it so they got the opportunity to live life on the wild side and eat some tartar. It was seasoned very well and had capers sprinkled in which made a nice contrast to the meat. I had a steak the night before, so I ordered the black grouper filet with the tomato garlic buerre blanc, as recommended by Paul, our esteemed waiter. It was one of the best I've had. All of the sides were delicious and included sauteed mushrooms, wild mushroom risotto, garlic spinach, and garlic mashed potatoes. I visited McKendrick's for the first time on March 25, 2017. I went with my sister and my parents for my Dad's birthday. He wanted us to try this restaurant out because he said it's the best steak he's ever had. We made reservations but showed up about 30-40 minutes early and the host had no problem seating us. The restaurant seemed fairly empty for a Sunday night, but he let us choose between a booth and table which was nice. We started out with an appetizer and salad. Since the menu is à la carte, the portion sizes were all fairly big, made for 2 people. My sister and I shared a Caesar salad ($10.95) which tasted very good. We also ordered the Bacon Steak ($11.95) as well for an appetizer. It was two extremely thick slices of bacon, each about a foot long. The bacon was amazing and I definitely recommend it if you're a bacon lover. My mom and I shared a 12 oz. Filet ($54.95) cooked medium rare. The steak was cooked perfectly and tasted pretty good. My dad and sister shared a 16 oz. Ribeye ($47.95) cooked medium well. Their steak was also cooked correctly. I tried a bite and it tasted amazing. For our sides we ordered Brussels sprouts ($8.95) and the Lobster Mac & Cheese ($18.95). I'm not a fan of Brussels sprouts my self because of the bitter taste, however these were cooked with bacon bits and honestly the bacon flavor added to the sprouts made them taste so much better! The lobster Mac & cheese was good as well. I think I was expecting a little bit more flavor wise because of the popularity of the dish, but other than that they were great, the creamy texture of it was amazing. For dessert we ordered creme brûlée ($11) and the waiter convinced us to try the Turtle Gelato Pie ($13). Since it was my dad's birthday, they also brought out a complimentary piece of cheesecake. The crème brûlée had a slight citrus taste to it and my whole family enjoyed it. It was delicious. We actually weren't a fan of the Turtle Gelato Pie. Mainly because it wasn't as sweet as we were expecting, half of the gelato in the pie was coffee flavored, which wasn't detailed on the menu, and I'm not a fan of coffee. The waiter was kind enough to take it off the check for us however, since we ended up not eating it. The cheesecake wasn't bad though and we ended up eating most of that. Overall it was pretty good. I wouldn't say it was the best steak I've ever had, but my dad told me the first time he visited everything tasted way better, so we just assumed maybe they were having a little bit of an off night, however I wouldn't say the food was bad, I think maybe it just didn't reach its full potential tonight. The waiter was very kind, though he did smell of cigarettes and alcohol most of the night, and he began slurring his words the later the night went on, lol. But he was very attentive and took care of us perfectly, recommending dishes, answering all our questions, and promptly filling our glasses. The inside of the restaurant was a bit dark, but not to the point where you can't see the menu. The overall atmosphere and decor of the restaurant was classy and beautiful. My husband and I went to McKendricks for Valentine's Day this year and were very disappointed. The service was awful and the food wasn't far behind. When we ordered our food the waiter made a suggestion and we said no thank you and proceeded with the order. 5 mins later he came back to re confirm our order. The order he repeated back to us included his suggestion that we had declined. After he put the order in he disappeared. The rest of our service was handled by a completely different waiter. We asked where our initial waiter went and he must have heard us ask because he was sitting on the other side of a wall and waved his arm. We didn't mind another waiter but it would have been nice to know we were getting a new one. The next issue was the food. The crab cakes and Mac and cheese were good, but everything else was subpar. I've had better food at Longhorn. We Didn't even get a part of our order. When our second waiter went to check on our side, they said they were out. Our first waiter never came back to tell us they were out when he first put in our order. Then when we got our bill we were flabbergasted. I ordered a stake and a side lobster tail. (Mind you the lobster on the menu was 62 dollars for 2) we were charged Market price for a 1lb lobster which was $99.00! I asked the waiter about the lobster before I ordered it. My husband and I were so upset. 1st the waiter added his own selection to our order, then we didn't get our full order, then we got taken advantage of on the price. HORRIBLE experience. This isn't a review about the food. But how poorly a safety incident was handled by staff. I came here to celebrate Mother's Day with our 3 young children and in-laws. We were seated in a corner table that was curtained off from the main dining hall. I was CARRYING my two-year-old towards the restroom and was walking past the bar about to pass the the kitchen door when I SLIPPED on the wet floor and FELL to the ground with my two-year-old in my arms. There were witnesses, a staff member helped me up right away, the family sitting in the booth were in shocked... I didn't want to make a scene in so I said I was fine and I proceeded to take my daughter to the restroom. So what is upsetting is after got back to my table, no one followed up with me to see if I was ok. I told our waiter what happened and he asked if I wanted to fill an incident report. When I told the manager Brian, I was indirectly accused of lying because no one said anything to him and I didn't have a witness. I had to make an effort to find the staff that helped me to corroborate my story... like it wasn't humiliating enough. Hey everyone, did you see me fall on my butt and could have hurt my daughter in the process?? I am the customer, I am the guest. YOUR staff should have told you (Brian) right away and you should come find ME at my table and apologize. Not the other way around. I filled out an incident report with all my contact info, but the point is. This was very poorly handled and I could have been seriously hurt. What if I was holding my baby (who was there tonight)? This was not how I wanted to end my Mother's Day dinner. If my child was seriously injured, I would have raised hell and sued and the restaurant would have PR nightmare. read more

If I could give this restaurant 0 stars I would. Our server was extremely nice, however a lot of mistakes were made. Let me start by this was our 1st time here (Thurs Oct 12 2017) My mother ordered the 16oz ribeye cooked medium rare. Well our server (who we still like) thought she ordered NY strip. Then they brought out her ribeye.. Raw on the inside. (I like rare, but this was raw, blue) They fixed it by cooking the steak more, but still not a lot of flavor. The server was extremely apologetic and really sweet. Now I ordered the 8oz filet cooked rare to medium rare.. It came out medium to medium well and extremely dry and flavorless. They replaced my steak and it came out cooked properly, however it was still flavorless.... I had to get steak sauces.. I was not impressed with my $42 flavorless filet... We did not want to complain again by stating how their steaks were not up to par.... My dad ordered onion soup and the spinach salad and it was the only good food that came out... To top off our bad experience... They charged us the wrong bill!!! $221 instead of $144.... Now my dad had surgery the very next morning and his heart rate skyrocketed... After this headache you'd think they would not charge us for their crappy $42 and $47 steaks... or at least 1 of them.. instead the manager comped 1 glass of wine and a side salad.... Be prepared that this restaurant is pricey and a la carte. My risotto was $10, that was a real con for me. My friends ordered ribeyes- one was about $40 and the 24oz was about $63. I had the cheesecake for dessert but could have used some sort of syrup but it was good nonetheless. My friend ordered the Apple crostata and that was also good. Made me want to go to cooking school to figure out how they charred that outside to perfection, but then kept the inside juicy, tender, amazing, moist, and flavorful. The meat spoke to my soul. The asparagus and potatoes were on point, but that steak though... Medium was sexy and delicious. The Bad... The wait at lunchtime was the worst. I know it takes time to provide the perfection I mentioned in the good good....But C'mon man. If I could give it less than 1 star I would. Didnt even dine in. I saw the dress code before making reservations where it said business casual. I was in heels, jeans, and flowy blouse with a blazer, hair done and full face of make up. But when i walked in, there was a lady and gentleman at the host stand. The lady kept saying "ripped jeans ripped jeans" under her breathe over to the gentleman, acting as if she was on the phone. but he kept ignoring her because my jeans were NOT ripped. He said "follow me this way ma'am" and she grabbed his shoulder and pulled him back and told him too look at my pants and pointed at me. This is a 5 star resturant.. you do not point and guests. They had a pattern in them as if you scratched them, but they werent ripped or had holes, no skin showing, nothing. I actually wear them to the office when I go in.. most definitely they are business casual. The gentleman told me to go across the street to the mall to buy new pants and come back... keep in mind it was 8:45pm. The mall closes at 9pm. And when i get back they may or may not have a table for me that night. When i explained that my jeans arent ripped or distressed, he said he knows and understands but its not fair since he made other people leave earlier to get pants and come back... overall terrible customer service, ESPECIALLY from the hostess. Making me feel uncomfortable and pointing at me as if i was a street rat. I dont know if i would ever want to give them my business in the future. If the lady had just nicely explained something or not made a scene in the front where other guests are walking in and out.. I would have been more understanding. But that was ridicuous. Its okay, ended up walking into flemmings for a much better and pleasent experience. read more

Excellent steakhouse! The service is top notch, as is the wine list. As i say, there is only one steak and its name is ribeye! I had the bone in ribeye, side if their famous lobster mac and cheese, topped it off with a Jordan cabernet! Not bad! Great steak! read more

This restaurant is well deserving of a review. From the moment we walked in we were greeted with warm smiles and kindness. The ambiance was beautiful and comforting and not too stuffy like other fine dining establishments. Our server was knowledgeable and always kept our glass full. Last but most certainly not least the food....the FOOD was cooked to perfection. My filet was absolutely delicious and the sides were not an after thought for them. If I lived nearby it would be a regular stop for me do yourself a favor and dine at this place. read more

I would not return to McKendrick's. The service and the quality of their food has declined significantly over the past several years. They have difficulty cooking a steak as ordered and are unwilling to find a way to make the customer happy. There are better choices in the Dunwoody- Sandy Springs area. read more
