McMahon has been my go-to for plumbing ever since they came out and installed the water line for my new refrigerator. From what I can see in the other reviews, some folks have had some issues with the installers as contracted from Western Appliance, but that was actually my first (and very positive) interaction with McMahon several years ago. I've had them out to replace my shower valves, water heater, and now to install a laundry outlet (flush mount box) in my garage. Every time, the folks who came out (often Scott, but most recently Mike) have been super-nice, very flexible, and stick to their estimates (even if things don't quite go as expected). The only down side is that they're a pretty old-school business. Expect to work primarily on the phone. I tried to get them photos of a job area, and it was a little bit of work trying to track down someone who had usable e-mail. That said, I'd rather they were better at plumbing than working with the Internet! read more

Ugh! Negative stars for really really really crappy customer service! We bought our dishwasher through Western Appliance. Set up delivery a few days later. A service guy showed up and was rude and curt with my husband (who had to take time off work for him to show up). The guy shows for one minute, tells my husband the dishwasher won't fit, he knows what he is talking about and leaves. Uhmmm okay? So we headed over to Western Appliance that night to figure out what the issue was. Come to find out the dishwasher was too big for our space (even though we measured). No biggie...we picked out a new dishwasher to fit the dimensions that the service guy stated. He shows up today with our new dishwasher...and I see now what my husband is talking about. No personality, completely rude and unfriendly. He is just plain WEIRD!!! Took a while to install but he got the dishwasher installed and it works great....no problems as of yet. So one star for doing his job and installing the new dishwasher. I complained to Western Appliance before about this guy's attitude. I am sure it didn't help since McMahon's is a third party they use. Seeing Lisa's review here makes me think that this company is just all around non-customer service oriented. As much as I love Western Appliance, I would not recommend using their service to install dishwashers because they use McMahon's Plumbing service. I wish I could give ZERO stars. McMahons is the deliver install company for Western Appliance (see separate review) and they are also unbelievable rude. The last 2 times they have been scheduled to do a delivery and install, they have not sent out enough people - needed 2 - sent 1 - to do the job. Then there is a delay.... This time they said they were told it was a dishwasher and it was a 300 pound oven. Then they were told that they didn't have my area code for my cell phone and so they couldn't set up the installation - more delay. Then when I gave them the number and told them that was the only number - they still called my brothers phone to set up the install. The phone people are unhelpful and rude. This whole company is a ZERO. Live and learn. I would go back to Leo at Western Appliance in a minute. He was knowledgeable and helpful, very kind and professional. Their scratch and dent floor models are often an incredible deal. But you have to know what you are getting. To be fair, you can return merchandise, in or out of the box for up to 30 days and a 10% restocking fee. Beyond that, store credit. I will try to never use McMahons again. How they are still in business is beyond me. read more

Terrible, terrible service. Woman who answered the phone tried to tell me I needed all kinds of additional pieces of equipment in order to have my cooktop installed. When I explained my contractor had taken care of all that, she said she couldn't help me because she wasn't really answer n the office. Then don't answer the phone!!! I called McMahon's for a quote in Janunary to swap the line in my master bath sink (currently hot is on the right, cold is on the left), and to put a stopper in the tub. Nick came out and quoted it. Because of the way the lines are run, he determined that the best way to do the swap was to go in through an exterior wall, and this should wait until rainy season was over because it would require stucco patch and painting. Three weeks ago I called to schedule the work. They had Nick call me back, and we scheduled for him to come out today. I told him I would take the day off work, and we agreed that he should buy the parts. Someone else showed up to do the work (Gary?). He didn't understand the job and hadn't gotten the tub parts. He said he could start work on the sink, and we could reschedule the tub for Saturday. I told him I was frustrated that despite my conversation with Nick, Gary was unprepared, but please go ahead and fix the sinks. I then called the office, and told them that I was pretty unhappy out of the gates that their guy had come unprepared, and asked that they get someone else to go get parts so they could do the whole job today. The receptionist said she'd call Gary to find out what was going on. A few minutes later, Gary comes in and says " I don't want to do this job. I want to go." (??!!?) I told him that he could go if that was what he wanted to do. I called the office, told the receptionist that he just walked off the job, and she said, "ok, thanks, bye". I said, "what do you mean, 'bye' what about my job? -We don't want to work with you, you're free to get a quote elsewhere -can I speak to a manager? - I'll have one call you Three hours later I call back looking for a manager, and the receptionist says he has the note, he should call this afternoon. She calls back 5 minutes later and says she's talked to the manager. they aren't interested in working on my job and it's not worth their time to talk with me. I point out that I have taken the day off- lost wages- so they can do this job and she says, "that's an obstacle. life is full of obstacles. Deal with it" and then she hung up on me. read more

Had an issue with work they did on our sink. They installed something incorrectly which meant more time off work to get them to come back and fix it. We were told they work with Western Appliance and they were recommended, so I'll follow up with Western to give them some info on their customer service. Their receptionist was exceptionally rude on the phone. In a day and age when we have choices of where to take and place our business, I would not recommend a company whose secretaries, receptionists, or whomever we get on a phone can be so amazingly rude. I suggest taking business elsewhere. read more

Bought a drop-in stove and vent from western appliance and was told this was their experienced contractors. They came one saturday, mismeasured my countertop and declared the stove and vent will NOT fit. Cabinets come in a standard 24", which mine ARE. They measured 22" and didn't even try to figure out where went wrong in the measurements. They left with our stove and vent and suggested that we needed to redo our countertop. It made us panic because we special ordered our items and if we returned them, we'd pay a 20% restocking fee(~$1k)! I had western appliance re-deliver my items and hired an DIFFERENT contractor (NOT THIS COMPANY OR ASSOCIATED IN ANY WAY). The contractor admitted that it will be very tight, but will try. Now, I have a fully-functional vent and stove that fit and works great! NO THANKS to this company to waste my weekend waiting for them and expecting to have a brand new vent and stove installed. They gave us wrong information and didn't even spend any effort getting the job done. Perhaps they only do really easy jobs and were too lazy to cut the counter to fit the stove or install a downdraft. We even paid the expected amount for those appliances and were ready to pay more because we know more effort will be needed! Good thing we got a complete refund. Horrible experience with them and made us think getting a new stove and vent was a complete nightmare thanks to them. At least it didn't have a bad ending. read more

Like the other reviewers, I purchased my dishwasher from Western Appliances. I'd read about the separate merchant transactions between the appliance purchase and was prepared for differing experiences between the two. I must have gotten the friendly crew from McMahon. I was scheduled for a morning window. The dispatcher called me one hour before the crew arrived. She was straightforward and business-like. The crew arrived right on time and they managed to find my location on the first shot (not easy). The dishwasher was too big for the space (by 1/8 of an inch - I think my counter is warped or something) but it turned out the be no biggie because they knew some tricks to slide it in. The plumbing was a challenge. My system seems to be original equipment from about 40 years ago and it's copper piping that was welded into place. OK - with a few adapters/converters, and a trip to the hardware store for equipment purchases, we where hooked up and ready to go. The guys took the time to explain about the problem and even gave me some future pointers for what to do, just in case my refrigerator needs to be hooked up. However the labor fees seem relatively high compared to Sears. On the other hand, Sear's may be "subsidizing" the labor to sell their appliances. I did get a much better price on the appliance from Western. Six of this, a half a dozen of the other... Update - 7/5/2011 - was chatting with a few of my friends about plumbers & recommendations. I bought gas range through Western Appliance. The person who showed up was most rude person we have ever met. The size did not fit and we had to order a different one. He said they will be charging $45 addition for each trip to come back and install a new one. We never had to deal with this type of rudeness when we dealt with Sears, and Sears never charged me to come back for installation. When I called the office to complain, the lady who answered the phone was even worse to deal with. I honestly don't know why Western Appliance use this company for installation. From now on, I am going some place else just to avoid McMahon. read more

We actually had a couple of good experiences with McMahons. First the bad - don't bet on them being there on the agreed time. We're 0 for 2 there prompting a call to their office which went into voicemail (it was the weekend). We asked them to install a new water line up into our kitchen for a new fridge/freezer. Job involved copperpiping, sheet-rock removal and installing the outlet in a recess. We were happy with the work - they told us from the start that it would take 3.5-5 hrs and eventualy charged us for 4 hrs plus parts. They charge $100 an hour but note each job has a 1.5hr minimum which kind of defeated the purpose of an hourly rate. Job was done cleanly (vaccumed afterwards ), all the sheetrock was replaced and spackled over (they actually did a really good job retaining the existing look ) They actually initially installed a microwave for us from Western and when they saw the microwave told us to return it as it looked like a floor model. Some companies would have probably just installed it anyway. I have had much worse experiences with the "Full Page in the Yellow Pages" plumbing companies so I'm taking a Star off for timing but feel comfortable giving them 4 stars based on our own experiences. read more

I have had occasion to use McMahon on 3 separate occasions over the last 5 or so years. My first was with a dishwasher purchased at Western appliance. Unlike some of the folks my experiences have always been positive and I have found the service to be stellar. In terms of promptness, they have actually been early. My appointment times were scheduled and I needed to re-arrange my personal schedule to accommodate only to find they were already at my residence waiting. A call subsequent to installation of new kitchen sink and faucets was greeted with a willingness to ensure I was pleased with their work and I was not charged an additional service call ( a weighted recoil on the kitchen faucet was adjusted ) Most recent was a problem with a toilet. A blockage issue and some old technology with respect to the refill valve and flapper. As before the technician came and reconciled the problem and problem solved. There are a host of plumbing ads in the yellow pages and I could have chosen one of them but the service level I experienced in a day and age where i feel lucky to speak to a human person and get an appointment time sooner than a week, McMahon has exceeded my expectations. read more

This is the second installation that we have requested Sam to undertake in almost as many months. We could not be more pleased with his professional and personal manner and the valuable information and guidance that he shares during his visits. One of the worst experiences I have ever had, we are going back to Sears because their service department is reliable and the phone staff is courteous. We bought a dishwasher from Western Appliance and set up an appointment. They called the morning of the appointment to set up the time. Because of the short notice no real plans could be made for my kids activities or my husbands work schedual. I waited all morning and into the afternoon. My older son (13) was at home when the service rep came and my neighbor was at the ready to let them in. I had to drop off my 6 year old twins kids at a neighbors house (not more then 5 min away ) so they could be taken to gym because I had to stay home and wait. My cell phone was at the ready. When I walk up to the door there it was they had come and left. No door bell, no call.........no effort. I called and explain the situation. I was told by the staff that it was my fault then was accused if being a bad parent for leaving my thirteen year old at home (with adult supervision next door). I asked for them to call the rep that the must have left only 5 minutes ago. I was told he doesn't have a cell phone and the company doesn't supply one. I was also told that she wouldn't make him come back and wast his gas. When I asked for the manager she said she was the manager...when I asked for the owners email she hung up on me. We called western appliance and we were not the first to complain that day. They refunded our money and we will be going to Sears. I hope Western Appliance understand that the subcontractors they use will effect thier business in the long run. I think that if you did get a good tech it is just the luck of the draw. read more

We bought a dishwasher from Western Appliance. Western Appliance's third party installation service is McMahon's Plumbing in Campbell. We paid Western Appliance a hundred-sixty dollars for the installation and removal of the forty-year plus dishwasher. Judging from the invoice, the plumber had to install another supply line (The house had been repiped a year ago, so this could not have been difficult) and the previous dishwasher had been hardwired into the power. The plumber installed an outlet, and plugged the new dishwasher into the new outlet. This EXTRA work cost us almost an additional two hundred dollars. ($197.00)over the one-sixty paid to Western Appliance. Of that amount, labor was forty-five dollars. The cost of the other parts (supply line, outlet box, electric cord) was $152.00. I find this expense a bit outrageous to use to intimidate an eighty-nine year old woman. read more

I called these guys when I had a leak under my kitchen sink. They came out, charged me an $85 service fee for coming to my home, and refused to do the work. They said I should call the contractor who had installed the faucet -- over a year ago. They were not competent, and the plumber who was came was nasty and rude. After they left, I called EJ Plumbing, they came out within the hour, and had the leak fixed in less than 10 minutes. Save your time. Save your money. Never call McMahon Plumbing. read more

I had a very good experience with McMahon Plumbing. The receptionist was pleasant and helpful. My dryer was not against an outside wall so the job meant some extra duct work and making a hole in the stucco for the vent. The plumber was accommodating to some special requests I made, while doing a very professional job and keeping to the estimate, which was very reasonable. The building inspector commented it was a "very clean job". I have high standards when it comes to quality of work and they really fit the bill. I'd use them again for my next plumbing or appliance job. read more

I'm comlpletely satisfied with their service. My kitchen faucet started leaking, and I was looking for a plumbing company to remove the old one and install the new one that we've bought. The leaking was strong, so I was looking for the same day service. I several companies throughnb Better Business Bureau in my area and started calling. Only one company was available the same day, until I called McMahon. The lady on the phone was not sure, if plumbers are available today, but she promised to call me back soon. To be honest, I was scared reading negative reviews here; decided to refuse, and called couple more companies, but unsucessfully. The lady really called me back soon, and told that plumbers can arrive to my house in an hour. We discussed the price, and - nice surprise - not only it was almost $30/hour less than in the company I mentioned above, but they did't also charged for "travel time". Well, it was Friday, I didn' want to spend a weekend with warterfall under my kitchen sink, so I agreed with their service. The plumbers arrived on time, clearly explained what they are going to do, perfectly made their job, cleaned up, and charged exactly as much as I was promised in the phone conversation. I also purchased a dishwasher from Western Appliances. Getting my old dishwasher out was pretty tricky, because of a hardwood floor that was installed after the dishwasher. I thought I might have to have the counter broken and replaced. In addition, the pipe bringing the hot water into my kitchen was really old and rusted. But McMahon's plumber Sam and his assistant put in a lot of hard work, were smart about how they did things, and got the job done beautifully! Actually, given the amount of work they put in, I was surprised that the bill was so low. I highly recommend them for these types of installations. ( read more
